MacbookPro Retina - Superdrive Issue

Hi everyone,
I just received a Macbook Pro Retina, and I have some strange issues.
One of those issues is related to the Superdrive and the audio CD.
I can't listen some of my audio cd through the Superdrive: the issue seems to be related to the cd produced or related to the Warner Music Group.
The problem is present also in different cd/dvd reader. Other audio cd produced by different company, works perfectly.
Any advice?
Should I return the superdrive or is it a known issue?
Thanks in advance to all of you.
Best Regards.

Try this one.

I use it on both Mac and Windows. Works great on both.

  • Graphics/artifacting issues with new mid-2014 15" MacBookPro Retina

I'm having graphics issues with my new 15" mid-2014 2.8 MacBookPro Retina.  It came with Yosemite.  I keep get glitchy
artifacting when using Premiere Pro and After Effects (CC 2014), obviously, but then even just while using Finder when AE and PP are closed.
I've read about it with earlier models, but nothing about the new ones.
I turned off the Automatic Graphics Switching in Energy Saver and just updated my CUDA NVIDIA driver.  It's still a problem.  Any ideas on what to do next?
    Thanks in advance.

Remove CUDA and see whether there's an improvement.
To remove CUDA, triple-click anywhere in the first line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Frameworks/CUDA.framework
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.nvidia.CUDASoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Library/PreferencePanes/CUDA Preferences.prefPane
    /System/Library/Extensions/CUDA.kext
    /System/Library/StartupItems/CUDA
    /usr/local/cuda
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Continue with the remaining lines. Some of the items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file couldn't be found. After moving all the above items to the Trash, restart the computer and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have restarted.
If you haven't already done so, back up all data before making any changes.

  • MacBookPro Retina 15" Late 2013 - Ethernet Issue

    Hi,
The "Overview Scan" takes about 4 minutes to on my MacBookPro Retina 15" Late 2013 connected via the Thunderbolt to Gigabit adaptor to my Home Network to my HP LaserJet 200 color MFP M276nw. My MacBookPro has the latest Print & Scan Driver from Apple Software Update (Driver Version 19.9)

  • MIDI STUDIO doesn't work on MacBookPro Retina, it crashes with message: MIDI Server can not be opened... help???

I was working for many years with midi software,
since I changes to Mac os x Mountain Lion  nothing works anymore
    - SIBELIUS (annotation software) doesnt work properly
    - Ivory II doesnt work properly
they all gave me MIDI initilization problem messages.
so I checked the MIDI Configuration, unfortunately MIDI STUDIO crashes with the message that it can't start the MIDI Server,
giving the hint, if i installed lately MIDI Drivers I should deinstall them, try again and if the problem disappeared contact the midi
    driver vendor....
well, I didnt instal any new midi drivers explicitely, since this mac os is transported from another mac and the updated to Mac os Mountain Lion.
    so that doesnt help...
    any body has a solution?
I need to enable MIDI urgently...
I googled a lot and foun in many different forums of different Music/Sound/Recording Software similiar problems, they all had the MacBookPro Retina.

I found a solution for this hanging MIDI Issue after many hours googling.
Probably The MIDI Server from Mac OS cant be started because a driver is not comaptibel with your OS.
    This article here helped me:
    Source: [http://www.sonosphere.com/MusicSoftware/MacOSX/AudioMIDISetup/]
On Mac Os X there is a folder
    \$(HOME)/Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers
I moved the 2 existing drivers to the Desktop.
    EmagicUSBMIDIDriver.plugin
    Fireface MIDI.plugin
after that it worked. seems like one of the 2 Midid drivers causes problems. I do use a fireface interface but I dont know from where Emagic comes, it is supposed to be from ProLogic, whcih I dont rememeber I ever installed??? may be it is from garageband?
may be the fireface Plugin was not compatibel with mac os Mountain Lion on MacBookPro 15 retina?

  • MacBookPro Retina maximum pixel for Foto work ?

Is there a way to choose 2880 x 1900 pixel resolution at the new MacBookPro Retina ?
To work on digital fotos with Photoshop, I would like to work with real Pixel, 2880 x 1900, but it seem not to be allowed... ?
What a fake is this ?
Or is there a hidden trick ?
That way, the only good working resolution would be 1440 x 950, well this is not really a big step forward.
The old 17" MBP has more pixels, so I do not change.
Is this the first Mac in history that go away from the professional graphic tools ?
    Perhaps I'm wrong ?
    Thanks

this might cause some debate but here it goes:
while the rMBP does not run it's full resolution of 2880 x 1800 (not 1900), the apps that support retina displays (Apple's currently: iPhoto, etc), the pictures/videos WILL be displayed at the 2880x1800 resolution..within their respective windows.
the MBP is actually simulating lower resolutions by making about 4 pixels represent 1.  But the apps that support retina can 'break that down' so that it's 1-to-1 pixel repreentation for its media.  It's a bit tricky to understand, but that's it.
When more apps get fixed to work with Retina displays, this 'feature' will be more common and the limited resolution by 3rd party apps (hopefully) won't be such an issue.  Point being made here is to have your photos at that high res, you MUST be using one of Apples software solutions (i.e iPhoto) until those others get on the boat.
[ why it might cause debate: everyone seems to have a different understanding of how apps (apples and others) deal with the retina resolution and how the Macbook Pro itself handles resolution ]

  • No audio at new MacBookPro retina after sleep mode

Once my MacBookPro Retina late 2013 all audio is dead, either in iTunes or on websites in Safari or anywhere else, even system sounds.
Have to restart it to have sound back. Already cleared PRAM but nothing changed. Any idea?

    Hi Matthias,
If you are having intermittent audio issues on your MacBook Pro, but restarting temporarily resolves it, you may want to try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC):

    Cordialement,
    Pascal (Paris)
    HELLO ,
I changed of computer. I Change for a MacBookPro Retina. And I use Apple's tool "Migration" to move Datas and Applications. From one another MacIntoshHD (SSD systems HD)
Unfortunatally, I can't launch Creative Cloud CS6 applications on the MBP Retina ?
The Adobe System tells me that some components for the applications aren't present now on the MBP Retina. And that the best way is to reload them (the whole Applications).
BUT Application Manager Tool says that "everything's allright", all the Adobe Creative Cloud Apllication are still installed. And I don't know how to force a reinstall opertaion. SO as I'm a Donkey... I looked for informations to uninstall them in order to reinstall them. On Adobe Web pages they proposed to move the Appllications to the Trash Can. So did I. I empty it. And.. now the Application maanager says they are still installed.
Please if you vcan tell me what to do, don't hesitate. I still hacve CS5 installed But yet I didn't try to use it. I do want to Reinstall correctly the Creative Cloud Applications.
    Best regards,
    Pascal (Paris)

  • Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display Issues with Wifi with Bluetooth.

I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display, 2.3 Ghz model.  I've noticed that while on wifi, when I use a bluetooth mouse or even turn on bluetooth on my computer, the wifi performance severely decreases for a short period of time.  While using a bluetooth mouse the wifi intermittently fails and I need to shut off wifi and turn it back on to correct the issue.
Using the ping utility on terminal I have confirmed this in that when bluetooth is turned on, a large number of packets are lost for about ten seconds.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem and is this an issue I can correct myself or should I contact Apple?
    Thanks

I have the same issue with my macbook pro with retina display. I have 2 macbook pros. I never would of thought that a bluetooth signal was interfering with both of them. I had a gateway wireless router that only had 2.4 Ghz 802.11 b/g, which is the same frequency of bluetooth. I know that bluetooth bounces from channel to channel, whereas wifi sticks to one constant channel (normally). I have reinstalled my mac twice, thinking that somehow my drivers were corrupted. This was false becuase everytime I reinstalled it did the same thing, Act fine for 5-10 minutes and randomly the internet connection would freeze up all together for 10-20 seconds. I have also tried contacting apple multiple times and they tried to do a smc and pram reset. They also tried to get rid of my chaches in my computer. It all seemed to be fine, and then when I got off the phone it would act us once more.
I have read numerous articles to try and fix the situation; one of them was to try change the location of the network and change the MTU size. No help. I called At&T (my internet provider) and got a new router and that did work for a while. But eventually acted up again. The router was still 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g. I read this article and found out that my Magic Mouse might be causing the issue. Turns out to be true. Everytime I would browser the internet or browse the itunes store and it would freeze, i would immediatly turn the bluetooth off and what do you know, it works!!! This is a huge dissapointment in apple however. It seems to be only a macbook pro w/ retina display issue. My other macbook pro only acts up when i'm using my newer one (something is wrong with the bluetooth and wifi in the retina for the 2.4 ghz frequencies.
I just got a Airport express, and have not experienced this issue what so ever. This is due to the fact that it is a dual band wireless router. It supports 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz both at 802.11 a/b/g/n which is a major improvement compared to what I had. I use the 5Ghz frequency and have no issues still.
This is still an issue however because if I want to go out and use anothers persons wifi, I can't control their frequency. So I will still have this issue.

  • TA27468 Problem importing pictures with a Nikon D800 into a MacbookPro Retina

I have this problem with a Nikon D800 when importing into a MacbookPro Retina ... I have enough free space, I can always import a batch of files from 10-100 (varying randomly), then get this "unreadable file" error message. Very frustrating.

What version of iPhoto? Importing Raws? Jpegs?
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • Is a refurbished MacbookPro retina display as good as a new one?

Is a refurbished MacbookPro retina display as good as a new one? No scratches?

I surely appreciate your answers. I fully agree that anything can happen anytime and it is a matter of chances after all. The most important thing seems to me how to reduce the chances of having troubles with the notebook.
    1. My first answer would be: Apple Care protection plan (almost 350$ for a 15” retina), but this means for you ho live in the US where the equipment was bought 2 years of warranty extended for another year and for us who live overseas the same 3 years (one year international warranty plus 2 years of protection by the Apple Care).
    2.  Buying new seems to be safer. It's a pitty there are no sites about reliability as for cars (TrueDelta comes into my mind right now).
    3. I wonder about some mistakes we as owners could make, such as using it after exposure  to cold temperatures, humid or dusty environments, recharging before a significant drop of power, dropping it because of the very slippery aluminum case, etc.

  • MacbookPro Retina, 13" - compatible 4K monitor at 60 Hz ?

Hello, I've just bought a Dell UP2414Q connected to my MacbookPro Retina 13" under Yosemite 10.10.2 using the mDP-DP cables that came with the monitor. I'm trying to get 4K max resolution with 1.2 turned on - but I cannot get 60 Hz, only 30 Hz.
This is annoying, as I cannot work with 30 Hz because the mouse pointer is either slow or constantly lost !
MST should be automatic, but it look like it isn't.
    - Should I try to use another cable, mDP-mDP for example ? Or should I buy a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable ?
    - Would it be fine only with MacbookPro Retina 15" ?
    Many thanks for your support.
    Kind regards,
    Olivier

    Hello RumbleFish0,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The only way for a Mac to display 4K content at 60 Hz is if it is connected to a Multi-Stream Transport display.  Otherwise, it is limited to 30 Hz or 24 Hz depending on the resolution.  To learn more about using 4K displays with Mac, please see the information in the article below.

  • MacBookPro Retina Late 2013 keeps crashing

My new MacBookPro Retina Late 2013 with OSX 10.9.2 keeps crashing randomly:
Sometimes, it crashes while working and shows this screen.
Also, when I close the lid and open it again after some hours, the MacBook has sometimes restarted itself. Console.app shows "Sleep failure code 0x00000000 0x13006c00".
The last sleep-crash happened while on battery power with no external device plugged into the MacBook.

It happened again. This test is shown after restarting: http://pastebin.com/5t0BKy3r

  • Cinema display does not always wake with MacBookPro Retina

I have a MBP Retina display and often use Apple 23" Cinema Display, with the rMBP closed, not running both displays. Sometimes the display is slow to come on, but will with a bit of prompting through hitting the esc key (USB keyboard) or my blue tooth Apple trackpad. Occasionally, nothing works. I open the rMBP and it wakes up immediately, close it, try the prompts with the display and nothing. Then I have to restart the rMBP.
I do not have an issue of the rMBP not waking as many others have posted. However, mine is sometimes slow to respond when it appears to be awake.
I did not have any issues with the cinema display with my old MBP (early'08). The display worked well and always came right on.
    I am running ML 10.8.2.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Larry

I have not tried this but would this be on any value, as there is quoted from the site:
"For example, if you wake a laptop up from sleep sometimes, and your network has changed, lookupd is the little ******* that usually makes your laptop just not wake up."

  • MBP Retina Migration Issues

I'm simply posting this to share my issues with the community, on the chance that it might help or reassure someone, rather than look for help myself at this point. I used the Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant to move from a Macbook Pro with Snow to a new Macbook Pro with Retina display and, of course, Lion.
    1) Original migration was going to take 255 hours over WiFi. Did very little after running for a couple of hours. There is no way once started to change the type of connection, pause, nor restart the migration. You have to cancel on the source machine, not the new machine. Then do a second time.
    2) Bought an Ethernet to USB adapter for $40 and redid through Migration Assistant. Took 3 hours of an estimated 1 hr 55 minutes. Creates a duplicate ID, which worried me. OK to simply delete the original ID. This software needs some serious work on usability.
    3) MA said it didn't migrate incompatible software, including Snapz Pro X (movie and screen cap program). Yet, when I started up there was Snapz. Deleted. I'm on the beta program for the new release, completely rewritten in cocoa. Looks like it will be great.
    4) Dropbox could not find its own folder on the MBP-R. Relink didn't fix until I re-relinked, did manually, found and "merged" folders. Related to having to use a second name when I used MA because my "name" was already used in the first attempt.
    5) Google Drive did not work. Same problem. Had to delete the Google Drive folder then recreated. Works now.
    6) Apple Track Pad does not work with Lion, quite sadly since Lion supports more gestures. I've read there is a lenghty work around but can't confirm that.
    7) Wake from sleep had some issues at first but seems improved, perhaps by latest update of Lion. Still binks and flashes, minor issue.
    8) Had continued to use Apple's Backup to store select folders on external hard drives, even after MobileMe closed. Worked great on old MBP. No longer works. Boots as trial version, then asks me to pay up for MobileMe to use, which I would if I could
    9) Icons/ desktop does not properly restore when it switches between internal display and external, Apple Thunderbolt Display, i.e. icons moved from right edge to middle of screen.
    10) Adobe CS6. Migrated CS5, then upgraded. All fine (so far) except Acrobat Pro left old icon on Dock, which instead of failing to open the old program, or opening the new one, does some peculiar copy protection routine. Had a Doh! moment before I simply deleted and replaced the icon.
    11) Using Timemachine with external RAID 5 (Pegasus R4) over Thunderbolt. Great. Tremendous speed improvement.
    12) Bluetooth device set up had lots and lots of problems. Took forever to find Mobile Mouse, Keyboard, and extrarodinarily long to find Trackpad (which, again, doesn't work when found). Did find my other MBP half way across the house -- immediately. Had to try repeatedly. Once I got them set up, though, they work -- except for the Trackpad.
    13) Lastinly, you'll notice this form itself doesn't even include Lion / 10.8 yet. Same problem happens in many places on Apple.com Sigh.
Good luck and enjoy the great new computer!

    14) iMovie problems. Apparently, prefs cause long movies to fail to save. There is an update, but the process doesn't work. Asks to a different Apple ID even when not needed.
By the way, here is the WiFi transfer time:
