MacBookPro - USB devices/HUB  question... thank you

I am a new Mac user... and I love it so far. I have the new MacBook Pro and purchased the Airport Express and a Belkin USB hub along with it. I have the USB hub connected to a USB port in my computer (and a few externals connected to that: mouse, external LaCie hard drive, etc.). My question is, when I want to go wireless and move the computer to a different location... how do I safely/properly disconnect the USB Hub? If I just pull it out (gently, of course) I get a window popup that says something along the lines of "device was not properly/safely disconnected... etc." I don't want to cause any short or long-term damage. I just want to know the proper way to disconnect USB devices (hubs, mouse, external hard drive, etc.) before using the wireless feature of the notebook.
Thanks!

Bob,
You're awesome, thanks! I tried that (pulled the external HD icon to the trash) then pulled out the USB from the Macbook and didn't get that "warning" box! I am currently only using two peripherals in my hub (a printer and the LaCie hard drive)... will I only need to do this "eject" thing for the external HDs? Or are there any other peripherals (I might use in future) that I will need to do this for as well?
Thank you again!!
M.

How to reset your Apple ID security questions.
Go to appleid.apple.com, click on the blue button that says 'Manage Your Apple ID'.
Log in with your Apple ID and password. (If you have forgotten your Apple ID password, go to iforgot.apple.com first to reset your password with a password recovery email)
Go to the Password & Security section on the left side, and click on the link underneath the security questions that says 'Forgot your answers? Send reset security info email to [email]'.
This will generate an automated e-mail that will allow you to reset your security questions.
If that doesn't work, or  there is no rescue email link available, then click on 'Temporary Support PIN' that is in the bottom left side, and generate a 4-digit PIN for the Apple Account Security Advisor you will be contacting later.
    Next, go to https://getsupport.apple.com
(If you see a message that says 'There are no products registered to this Apple ID, simply click on 'See all products and services')
Choose 'More Products & Services', then 'Apple ID'.
    A new page will open.
Choose 'Other Apple ID Topics', then 'Forgotten Apple ID Security Questions'.
    Click the blue 'Continue' button.
Select the contact option that suits your needs best.

  • Please someone help asap with exchange/return question thank you

purchased a tv last night friday april 30th,2010. I opened it and put where i needed to, it is too small. Do I have to pay the restocking fee if I take back today and get another Tv thats larger? Essentially I am gonna get a comparable tv thats larger, around same price if not more. Very confused dont wanna pay $300 for 15%, not sure if it applies here, thank you. Box is perfect condition all things put back nicely.

Relax. Assuming all parts are accounted for, and the TV is in new condition(and you have the receipt), there will be no problem exchanging it.

  • Another battery question thank you so much if you could help...

Sorry i didn't ask this in my other thread but i wouldn't get any replies if i did that lol... OK I wanna make sure Best Buy isn't giving me the old macbook pro for the price of the new one... In the System Profiler under Power it shows that my computer's battery has a maximum capacity of 6650 mAh... is that the charge capacity of the new macbook pro battery?? I just got this mac like 3 or 4 days ago... so far doing basic things like word processing the battery hasn't lasted more than 3 or 4 hours with the brightness at minimum and using the lower power nvidia 9400m... thank you so much if you could help me confirm that I do have the new macbook pro model and battery so I can stop worrying about this lol

    Hi bodyboarder3452,
Another easy way to tell is from the external, bottom enclosure. Do you have a latch door on the bottom that allows you easy access to the HD and a removal battery? If not then you have the model with the "built in" 7-hour battery. The FCC definitely would seem to indicate that you have the 7-hour battery, as the typical FCC of the previous generations was more in the ~5500mAh range.

  • HT201363 Hi I have forgotten my id questions and the recovery email will not send despite my several attempts and checks. I am now currently locked from my Apple ID account could someone help me reset my id questions thank you

HHow do I reset my id questions if the recovery email will not send ??????

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • USB 3 Hub question

I have a iMac on 10.7.5 and I have a NEW mac mini Core i7. I have a external WD hard drive in which I use for all my art files. I'm wanting to be able to access the external from BOTH computers. I'm thinking about a USB 3. Is there any thing ya'll would recommend orther then that? or maybe a brand? It will have to atleast hold 3 to 4 USB plugs.

I use a NAS. I have a D-Link DNS-323 on my network with 2 - 1TB drives in it. Works great and any computer on the network can see it. I am sure they have better models now as I got mine over a year ago!

Hmm. The problem still may be the RAM - Apple buys the RAM it puts in its machines from third-party vendors (usually Hynix) so it could be a RAM problem.
There are a couple of things that you can do yourself before taking your machine into an Apple Store or an AASP... download and run an application named Rember that will run a RAM test for you - let it run for a couple of hours or even overnight. If it turns out that your RAM is faulty, Rember will let you know. If it is faulty, then you have a couple of options - replace the RAM yourself or (particularly if you're under warranty still) take the machine to an Apple Store or AASP and have them replace the RAM.
If Rember finds no fault with the RAM, then you'll need to take it into an Apple Store/AASP and get a free diagnosis on the machine. Three beeps do usually indicate faulty RAM, but if it tests good with Rember you likely have another problem - it could be something as simple as the RAM, somehow, not seated correctly or signs of another hardware problem.
Run Rember first... call back with results.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Kernel panic in 10.6.8 on MacBook Pro 3,1 any time a USB device is plugged in

I updated my MacBook Pro 3,1 (late 2007) from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8, and when the update was completed, any time any USB device was plugged in to either USB port, there was an instant kernel panic.
I checked carefully to confirm that this also happened after booting into Safe Mode to disable any extensions or login items.
So I had no choice but to revert to 10.6.7 and apply a few updates and patches short of 10.6.8.
I'm writing this to report this bug to Apple. I hope they address this issue. If anybody can tell me how to access the correct system log recording the kernel panics and submit it to Apple, I'd be willing to do that.

CMCSK: Thanks for the link, but you provided no further instructions, such as exactly WHERE to report the problem. So for now I'm just going to post the information right here.
    MacBook Pro 15-inch, 3,1, Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz, 6GB RAM, 500GB hard drive with about 300GB free.
Main hard drive is Hitachi HTS725050A9A364:
      Capacity: 500.11 GB (500,107,862,016 bytes)
        S.M.A.R.T. status: Verified
Boots up normally with no perpherals attached, but crashes the instant that anything is plugged into any USB port. Here are two kernel panic logs.

If the industry agreed with never using external hubs for hard drives they would elimate them from there montherboard designs altogether.
Faulty logic and a wrong premise.    Thats like saying "you can get hurt in a car accident with or without a seatbelt, so it doesnt matter"
    USB hubs are error-fault multipliers.
To give an analogy you might understand,......your stuff can get lost in the mail on its way to its destination,  ..........using a USB hub is like giving your mail to a drunk homeless stranger to carry to the post office first.

Thats a faulty comparison to a cheap (they all are) error-multiplier external USB hub.

  • How to get USB device in the list of VISA resource Name field of VISA Open VI

I have followed the below tutorial to communicate with my device using USB port. But i didn't get the name of the USB port in Measurement & Automation Explorer devices list. How to get it? Can anyone suggest something?

    Hi kimhyun,
I have attempted this. But succeeded.I used pendrive as my USB device.my sugesstion is you don't disconnect your device at any point of your work.Check the device is connected properly.IF your system has recognized your device, you can view the device in control panel>>Device Manager>>Then open your particular device from the list of connected device then Details>>device description>>Hardware Ids>>Then you can find your vendor id there.
Try this.I think your device is loosly connected.Which USB device are you using??Also you must install THE DRIVER OF YOUR USB DEVICE.
    GOOD LUCK

  • Windows XP does not recognise USB devices after installing itunes 7.2

After downloading itunes 7.2 my PC no longer recognises my ipod nano (2G, 2Gig). Uninstalling itunes 7.2 and reverting to a previous version makes no difference.
On top of this my PC no longer recognises my external USB 2.0 HDD.
Uninstalling and allowing windows to rediscover USB devices \ hubs etc as per MS recomendations has not resolved my problem
Both devices function with no issues when plugged into my laptop.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this will be greatly received!
    Many thanks

Power down and wait... does not solve the "USB Device Not Recognized" problem in my desktop running XP Professional.
All five USB Root Hubs are stucked. I tried uninstalled them all and let XP to find new devices but afterwards the problem still remains.
By the way, I have a thousand songs stored in the iPod Nano (2nd generation). Will iPod reset erase all my songs?

  • I want to copy music from my iTunes library to a usb device for playing in radio with a usb input?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) Processor 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, running OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2  I would like to copy music from my iTunes library to a usb device (Transcend 8GB) for playing in my Kenwood KDC - 258U. I am having trouble with the radio recognizing music on the Transcend usb.  Suggestions?

Thank you for your reply.  I finally figured out that I needed to use the disk utility and erase using the MS-DOS (FAT) option and making sure there were no other partitions.  Then I simply used finder to tag music in my iTunes library and drag them to my USB drive.  Most of my music is MP3 although my Kenwood will read several formats.

  • Reset USB device

How can I perform an USB device RESET using viUsbControlOut?

In any case, your need to get from the USB Device manufacturer all the Device Command Set. In all this commands, you will find a "message" that can reset the device (Of course, if a reset functionality has been added to the device).
An USB device is "like" a GPIB instrument. When you want to reset a GPIB Scope, you need to know which SCPI message to send to the instrument, so you need to have the command set of the instrument. In no way, the scope reset is done by a Lv GPIB function, but by a message send by the Lv GPIB_Write function. This is exactly the same for the USB device.
Then, if you know the command to send, you need to send it by a function in Lv. You have 2 choices, depending on the USB device specifications:
Case 1: The USB device is compli
ant to USB Test & Measurement Class (USBTMC)
In this case, you just need to use a VISA_WRITE, with the command which reset the device. No configuration is required to communicate with a USB device compliant with the USBTMC.
Case 2: The USB device is not compliant to USBTMC (This is the case for all others USB devices)
In this case, this is a litle bit more complicated. The function you need in Lv to send your message will depend on the pipe (way of communication) use by your device. For knowing this, you need to read the documentation of you device.
This is clearly exlpain on step 3.2 at the following web adress:
