Macbookpro Waves in the screen
There are horizontal waves which move from the bottom to the top of the screen. They are usually more visible in the grey opening screen but also visible other times. Does anyone have an idea what to do?
Could someone give me details about the waves? I found that the 3xPRAM reset worked for me, but this problem did NOT exist on my 2.2GHz (Samsung screen) before I installed the display update. Ever since, if I reinstall OSX, the installer starts up and the waves appear, and the PRAM resets are necessary.
Like I said, I really just want to know what the waves are caused by. I find it to be a very unusual issue and why does it reoccur when I boot from my install media? Does that action change PRAM settings to cause the waves to reoccur?
Also it seems like the waves do not affect my GF's 2.2Ghz LG-screen MBP. Was the update to fix LG displays, but caused this to occur on Samsung LCDs?????

I was updating my macbookpro, after that the screen is all in black, what happen? :(
What update? What operating system is running on the Macbook Pro?
(iOS 6.1.1 as your profile shows is an operating system for an iPhone, iPad not a Mac). -
My MacBookPro (mid 2012) will not complete the boot process. Yosemite's progress widget gets about 1/3 to 1/2 way across when the logo disappears and the screen goes all white for 10-15 secs, then the machine shuts down and restarts. This sequence will repeat seemingly forever unless I shut it down manually.
I upgraded to Yosemite from Mountain Lion a couple months ago, skipping Maverick completely, and I've done any associated updates that Apple told me about. I don't recall which version of Yosemite I have, but I'm sure it is the "latest and greatest".
I've tried re-starting in Safe Mode / Safe Boot and that does the same thing as described above except without the endless restarts. Instead of restarting at some point, SafeBoot proceeds to the white screen and then it hangs until I restart it manually. (I've waited as long os 20-30 minutes with no response).
When I tried the option-command-p-r key combo I never get any chimes or other noises besides the original 1 time boot sound that you would expect to get when starting up a macbook pro.
I was using the mac quite normally (meaning I was doing work I normally do on it and there was no indication of anything wrong) immediately prior to this happening.
The machine is BootCamp(ed) with Windows 8.1 which I use from a VMWare virtual machine instead of natively so that I can have both OSes running at the same time. I also think this is unrelated to my problem. I have been using this setup for more than 2 years.
My upgrade to Yosemite was uneventful and I thought it went well and was very smooth. I don't want to lead attention away from Yosemite, but at this point my problem does not seem related to the upgrade.
Any help is appreciated.Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -
My MacBookPro has a white screen with a grey file folder in the center of the screen with a white question mark blinking in it. What does this mean? And how can I get my computer back up and running normal?

Since Yosemite my Macbook 11inch mid 2011 (supports Thunderbolt) does not see the second thunderbolt display anymore.
My MacBookPro 13inch Early 2013 works fine, but it swaps the screens after an (re)boot.
Does anyone else experience these problems and/or have solutionsHello ROBLAHAY,
I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue with your MacBook Air. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact configuration you are describing. If you are talking about using two external Thunderbolt displays (in addition to the internal display) with your Mid 2011 MacBook Air 11-inch, you may want to be aware that only a single external Thunderbolt display is supported on that model, as noted in the following article:
3. How many Apple Thunderbolt Displays can I use with my Mac in OS X?
The table below indicates how many Thunderbolt displays can be connected to Thunderbolt-capable Mac computers in OS X.
Computer
Maximum connected displays
Thunderbolt-capable Macs with Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated graphics can support one connected Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch).
MacBook Air (Mid 2011)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) and (13-inch, Late 2011)1
Mac mini (Mid 2011), 2.3 GHz
Mac mini with Lion Server (Mid 2011)
One Thunderbolt display

Hey ppl,my macbook is not booting and by that i mean u can hear the audio wave when its starting up,the screen goes white and then after a while there's a folder with a question mark in the middle of the screen...anyone,any ideea?!?Regards.
That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the hard drive data is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the optical drive.
Once it has finished booting and you are at the Install screen launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then select the First Aid Tab run Repair Disk and if that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead. -
my MacBookPro comes on but the screen atys black and blank. After about 30 seconds, it shuts down. Itx less than 2 years old and has very few hours of use.
anyone one have any ideas?
katherineIf you have attempted the reset, which is holding the home button and sleep/wake button, was it still connected to the computer? Have you tried to do that when not connected. You stated it never came on, how long did you hold the buttons together? If you cannot get it to connect to iTunes then you would not be able to restore the device. You can see if you can put the device into Recovery Mode by following the instructions in this support document. If that does not work, then you are correct, make an appointment at the Apple Store. If you can't update or restore your iOS device

I have a 2007 Macbookpro and it started up with gray checkered boxes and across the screen I tried to re load OSX and it work 1 day and started again is this a hard drive problem or Video? Now as it starts to load a screen comes up saying to restart over and over again
I'd suspect this known issue:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
if you have a late 2007 MBP.
The only testing you can do at home is to attach an external monitor and see if the defects repeat on the external. If so, get to an Apple store. If the computer's video chipset fails a test the Apple Store will perform, you get a free logic board replacement. Turnaround is usually one day to one week--not bad at all.
If the defects do NOT repeat on an external monitor, then the problem is not covered by the above Repair Extension Program
The issue is heat-triggered. Be certain that you control heat once you get it fixed. Don't use the computer in your lap without a lapboard; don't block the vents under the display hinge; don't us in clamshell mode, etc. -
Any solution to the glare off the screen on my MacBookPro 13"?
Is there any solution to the glare off the screen on my MacBookPro 13"? Main usage is in photography.
Hi Richard,
I have to agree with SU. I don't want to sound flippant, but the other option would be to use it in a totally dark room. I know, not real practical. Although they say "never say never," I think it's safe for me to say, since CRTs have exited the scene, I'll never purchase anything with a glossy display. -
My Mac Book Pro was really slow at everything and would kick me out of my photos every time i got on them. now it won't even allow me to log on. i put my password in and the screen will flash white and go back to the login page. HELP please...
There is nothing wrong with your Dell, it will work fine with any MacbookPro. I have been using Dell displays for over 12 years with many different Mac models. I have two 21" Ultra Sharp displays working side by side to design a Keynote presentation right now.
The issue your having is with the way Keynote takes control of the video output to both displays, it sends the presentation signal to one and the presenter display to the other, this is set up in;
Keynote preferences > Presenter display.
If you want to show a wesite or another app on either display, use application switcher:
press the the command key on the keyboard, then the tab key; a row of applications will show what applications are running, choose which one you want to show. Use command > tab to return to Keynote. -
I'm trying to get an overhead projector to identify my macbookpro. If I go to Prefs and select screens that dialogue box comes up on screen. So I know there's nothing wrong with the VGA cable. But when the screen box is collapsed nothing happens. My computer is not recognized by the projector. Can anyone help?
On a PC I used to hit "control F5. But I don't believe that works on a MacBook. Any suggestions?About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time. -

About a month ago my fan started making a weird clicking/whirring noise. It eventually stopped and I thought nothing of it (this might be unrelated, but I just want you all to have as much info as possible).
Then, yesterday, my Mac was acting funny. I was trying to watch netflix and whenever I clicked on a video, BAM the whole screen went black and the sound stopped. But the keyboard stayed lit. The only way to rouse the computer out of this state was to hard shut it off (ten seconds on the power button), and then turn it back on. Except, sometimes when I turned it back on, the screen would go white and play the mac startup musc and then immediately go black again. It was really weird and took me 2-3 times to be successful with even booting up the computer.
I ran a hardware check and it said nothing was wrong. I tried to reinstall the OS but when I entered recovery mode, the internet just wouldn't work. Like... the wi fi found no networks, even though I'm sitting in the exact same spot I was in yesterdat with the entire wi-fi wave filled and it's totally fine.
I don't know what this means. I'm planning on taking my mac in tomorrow, but I was wondering if you guys could help save me some time.

Also really quickly: I don't know where to put this, but the first time my computer reset, the desktop wallpaper turned back to the wallpaper I had before the one I currently have selected. That was really weird/random. Thoughts? It looks as if there's a problem with your GPU. With a Retina machine, that would mean replacement of just about everything, except, perhaps, the flash storage drive.
Print you kernel panic when you go to your Apple Store appointment. I'm betting that it's a faulty GPU but they will be able to diagnose exactly where the problem lies.
Good luck,

Have a MacBookPro. The computer will not boot up. the screen has black and white bands with multi color bands as well.
Yeah it's dead. Take it to an Apple Genius Bar and have it checked out. Then buy a new one.

Images in the screen corrupted by some strange lines ...
Hi,
I have many troubles concerning the display on my MacBookPro. Often, the image on the screen is corrupted by black lines and some strange colour patterns. When I use Tiger on the same machine everything is fine. I agree that with the version 10.5.2 the situation is a bit better tan with the 10.5.1, but anyway, this is not acceptable from Apple. When I disable the Quartz Extreme (via a tool in the developer folder), everything is OK. Hey Apple, how to solve this?
Best regards, EdoI think I solved the problem, but this is not good for Apple.
I checked the hardware specification via the "Abour this Mac" ... and I discovered that my graphic card doesn't support the Quartz Extreme!!!! So, why my Leopard configuration is set to support this feature? I have found this link that for the moment, solved my problem

I hope that Apple will fix this in the version 10.5.32323
Regards

Cannot open embedded Adobe PDF files in Safari 5.1
I am disgusted to find that Apple has removed Safari's ability to open embedded PDF files in Safari 5.1. This is a huge mistake by Apple, and the only work around from Adobe was to use a different browser. Get on the ball, Apple!!! Fix your MISTAKES!

I think when my contract expires on 01/26/2013 that I will not renew my contract with VZW. I'll still remain with VZW, I'll pay the full-retail price for whatever glitzy device is all the rage. I figure, $800 FRP, without the threat of an ETF is well
