MacBookPro won't download updates. No error message. Using Software Update-not using App.  Gray button just turns a lighter shade of gray and just sits there.  Have done previous downloads last one on Jan.9 for desktop and two others.

So I've realized that iTunes needs service pack 2 for
XP, and I have 1, so I'm trying to download it, but
that's not working either... I wonder if you know
windows as well as apple? I have to turn the Active
x controls on and this tool bar is to appear so I can
do that but I can't get it to appear. I've tried
raising the security settings but nothing appears...
interesting.................what is service pack 2 and where can i find it? My itunes still flickers on and off when i attempt to use it. .. and how do i get to the active X controls so that i can adjust them? Thank you guys so much for your time and assistance :-D

Try rebooting your router and or cable modem. Unplug it/them for about 30 seconds and then plug back in. See if it works then. Reboot your iPad as well.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Error message during software updates

I am constantly receiveing the following error message during software updates. This time it happened with an HP printer update, but it has happened with iTunes and Safari as well. Does anyone know what I need to do?
The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/GeneIOUSBCFSubclass.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update

Try using Help > Updates from one of your CS6 applications.

  • Boot Camp Assistant won't work - keeps asking me to use Software Update.

I am trying to use Boot Camp to install Windows but my Boot Camp Assistant won't work - it keeps asking me to use Software Update. So, even though I know everything is up to date, I start Software Update and it confirms that indeed everything is up to date. I try Boot Camp Assistant again, but the same message appears. I search every possible Boot Camp upgrade to download from Apple but they are all .exe files and need Windows to run, so those don't seem to be what I need. So I am caught in a circle of nothing working. Figures - the ONE weekend I need to install Windows and use a Windows-based program!!! And of course Apple support is closed over the weekend - another great asset to spending thousands of dollars on a product. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I too am having a similar problem. I am trying to install Windows in a newly created Boot Camp partition. I have Windows 7 but Boot Camp Assistant only mentions XP and Vista. I put in my installation disk of Windows 7 but it refuses to install it. My OS is fully up to date.

  • HT1926 won't download itunes, get error message concerning C runtime library

tried to update itunes, now it doesn't want to install itunes, keep getting an error message that C runtime library is not installed correctly

Follow the below procedure if you are using a Windows based PC.   I did not develop it, another forum user did, but I did insert 1 additional step in case you use a 3rd party software package to give your apple devices "Airprint" capability for your non Air Print capable printers (Such as Fingerprint).
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
Remove any 3rd party software which uses Airprint features (such as Fingerprint by Collobos)
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or by right-clicking the downloaded installer and selectingRun as Administrator.

  • Error message with Software Update

Hi everyone. I'm getting the following error message when trying to download some items via Software Update:
"None of the checked updates could be saved. A networking error has occurred: Cannot open file (-3001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again."
This is for the following downloads:
    iPhoto 7.1.4
    iDVD 7.0.2
    iMovie 7.1.4
    Security Update 2008-005
Any ideas? I have no problems with Internet access at all. I'm running a new 24" Intel iMac 3.06 GHz with Mac OS 10.5.4
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Bruce

    Hi baltwo.
I was able to manually download the iPhoto, iDVD and iMovie updates from the Apple website and install them with no problem.
After I downloaded the Security Update 2008-005 and tried to install it I get the following error message:
"You cannot install Security Update 2008-005 (Intel) on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
Is this why the other downloads were prevented? I've never had problems with Software Update before.

The software update does not return an error if not using the unix console, it just shows no valid updates.

The reason why you are receiving is because you don't have the forward slash after the 8088.
    Your current setup: http://fileserver.occmed.net:8088
    Correct setup: http://fileserver.occmed.net:8088/
    This will solve your problem.

  • My iPhone 6 Plus won't download the iOS 8.1.2 software update.

When I go to update the software on my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 8.1.2, I enter my passcode and agree to the terms. Then it does nothing. And it never downloads. It just kind of sits there on the agreement page, but it doesn't lock up or freeze. I've been having this problem for a couple weeks now. I've restarted my phone numerous times and I have synced it with my computer. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your suggestions! I tried updating using iTunes on my computer, and it worked!

  • Cannot use Software Updates

Hello all. I am a newbie at the Mac as of yesterday.
I am trying to update my 10.5.7 to 10.5.8 - I figure I should be able to do that via the Software updater. When i click Apple - Software Update, the updater window appears with an error message saying "software update can't connect to the update server. Make sure you're connected to the internet, then try again. Software update can't check for updates because of a network problem."
I have combed the forums on the net for the past 3 hours trying to find a solution to this problem. I see many people with the same problem as me and I have tried every solution that has been posted in response but none of them work. I am hoping that seeing they are older solutions, somebody may now have something else for me to try.
    Here's what I know:
I am using a macbook 5.1. I can connect to the internet fine using both my wireless connection and my ethernet connection. Browsing is fine as is iTunes updates etc. There are no proxy settings in my networking - Advanced area. I created a new location just in case and that doesn't work either. I am trying to connect as the administrator. I created a new user account as an administrator and that didn't work either (but everything else was fine and I could browse the net ok). I am using Airport. When I run the network diagnostics, it tells me my internet connection is fine. I am now downloading the update as a stand alone install.
I would like to use the updater if only to see what needs to be updated before manually downloading it if I have to.
Can anybody please pinpoint what my issue might be?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
When you have problems using Software Update from your Apple menu, then use a standalone installer, in this case install the v10.5.8 combo update available here. Do this from your admin account.
*The combo update includes fixes that were not part of the original 10.5.8 update*
    Then repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done.
If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

If you still have problems installing an update, launch Disk Utility from your Applications/Utilities folder (admin account). Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the FirstAid tab. Click: Verify Disk. If Disk Utility reports problems, follow the instructions here for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

Downloaded latest iTunes update. Now iTunes won't open, and the error message says "You can't open the application iTunes because it is not supported on this type of Mac." I have been using this MAc since 2008. Any suggestions appreciated.

  • Cannot download updates without error message

Whenever I try to download my computer's updates, an error message pops up saying that I do not have sufficient admin privileges to download them. This is troubling because my account is the only account on my computer, and is clearly registered as an "admin". How can I fix this so that I can download my software updates?

Try repairing your permissions. If that does not work, try booting from your install disc and reset the admin password.
