Machine connected to  Extreme Base Statiom via ethernet wont print

My wireless network works really well exccept that the one Imac connected via Ethernet cable to the Extreme Base Station will not print on the
printer connected to the Base Station USB port, but can
see the Internet etc. All the wireless clients, of all types can print to printer etc.
A Colleague of mine also has exactly the same problem on his network.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

David, Welcome to the discussion area!
What version of the Mac OS is the iMac running?

  • Connecting Extreme and Express via ethernet to both transmit

    Hi,
I have a brand new Airport Extreme and Express set up in my house. At the moment the Express is wirelessly extending the range of the Extreme and also serving Airtunes to my Stereo.
My question is can I connect the Airport Extreme and Express via ethernet so that they both transmit a wi fi signal. Or can the Express only connect to the Extreme wirelessly when acting as a network extender?

I figured it out after I did the post.
I plugged them both in to the Ethernet but instead of having the Express extending the Extremes network, I set them both up with the same Name and Password to act independantly as an Active Roaming network.
Now my laptop just picks the one with the best signal as I roam the house and you don't even notice it change Airport.
My Airtunes is now hard wired as well.
    thanks.

  • Problem consistently printing via new (summer 2011) AIRPORT EXTREME BASE STATION and Brother wireless printer (model HL5370DW). What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help you folks can offer. I'm a newb here and will try to offer as much detail as I can about the dilemma at hand.
Scenario: Home network has been recently set up for wireless internet access via NEW Airport Extreme Base Station (purchased September 2011). Units accessing the network include: 2011 Macbook Pro, 2011 Macbook Air, 2007 Macbook, 2009 Macbook Pro, 2 iPhone 3GSs, and a 1st-gen iPad (and a partridge in a pear tree AEBS is configured to run WPA2 encrypted network, as well as a WPA2 guest network. I am attempting to yoke a BROTHER HL5370DW wireless B or G/ ethernet / usb-capable printer to the main network such that any and all units can print wirelessly or its equivalent (i.e., via printer hooked to AEBS through USB hub)
Problem: Despite configuring the Brother printer to recognize the main WPA2 network I created, I am unable to get wireless printing to work. My workaround was to physically connect Brother printer to AEBS via USB, specifically using a Belkin USB hub (after all, I wanted access to usb drives, as well as the printer). This workaround works ONLY SOME OF THE TIME. Generally, after a fresh boot of any computer or after a restart of the AEBS, any given computer will be able to print (i.e., any computer wirelessly connected to the main WPA2 network recognizes the printer). HOWEVER, at random times, printer access is gone (as is access to USB drives connected to AEBS's usb hub). Wireless networks are still up and running when that happens. IS THERE A WAY TO GET THE USB HUB's devices (i.e., printer and usb drives) to ALWAYS REMAIN AVAILABLE AS LONG AS THEY STAY CONNECTED TO THE AEBS? In other words, what accounts for the intermittent loss of the usb peripherals?
Sometimes, I just shut the airport off on whatever computer is having this problem, and the problem goes away. Sometimes, the problem is present across all computers in the house, sometimes only a few are affected. I can ALWAYS see the AEBS in the Airport Utility if the AEBS is connected to the particular computer via ETHERNET CABLE.
    My theories:
    - true wireless printing (i.e., without usb hub workaround) doesn't work because the N network somehow isn't backwards compatible with the Brother printer, which, i believe, is B/G. Although...isn't Wireless N networking supposed to work with BG devices? I did find a thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2570774?start=0&tstart=0 ) that explains some of the particulars of WPA2 encryption and Wireless B/G issues, but it was beyond my level of comprehension (I'm a psychologist, but not an Apple Genius
    - The usb workaround is only intermittently viable because of some flaw in the Airport or Airport Utility that causes dropouts to happen when a Macbook Pro or Air's lid gets closed or one gets opened after having been at a different network (e.g., at my office).
    QUESTIONS:
    - Should I try to use my old router (7 year old Linksys WRT54G) as an access point and connect the Brother printer to that G-router? How do I do that?
    - I wouldn't mind just relying on the usb hub method if I could just insure more consistency (i.e., no random dropouts of peripherals). How could I do this?
    Rule out:
    - wireless printing works on my printer - it was being recognized back before the AEBS. I had the Linksys router running a WEP network and had the wireless printer talking with no cables to the router and the computers. (I just don't want to revert to using WEP encryption given its lack of security and my trying to protect HiPAA related health information on behalf of patients)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    13 ASCII characters = 104 (aka 128)-bit WEP
    encryption
If turning off WEP works, then you just need to
provide the cameras with the "Equivalent Network Password".
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual
standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit
WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier, vendors use certain
algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords
(or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use
of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than
lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different
vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX
key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be
hashed differently on a non-Apple client and vice
    versa.
You may find the following article helpful:
    - Apple article, especially the part about
    "Third-party client to Airport".
Brilliant idea about trying the system with No encryption on... that DID solve the problem... almost.. once I turned off the encryption option, and restarted the Airport, I got a dialog box showing that the "Base station needs attention" but it didn't indicate WHAT kind of "assistance" it needed. Nonetheless, I closed out of the Airport program only to find that the indicator light, which had been Green, was now, flashing Yellow and I could not connect anything, including my computer. I opened the Airport program again and found the ONLY way I could get the Green light on was to select some sort of encryption option... then the light would go Green again but my cameras would not hook up again, and when I went back in and ONLY changed the option to NO encryption, I got the yellow flashing light and the "this base unit needs attention" warning...
I think your suggestions are almost on the mark... is there any way of reconciling the WEP coding between the cameras and the Airport??? Or turning off the encryption option and STILL have Airport work?
Thanks again for your help and suggestions... I really appreciate it.

  • Connect AirPort Extreme Base Station to air card

How do you connect AirPort Extreme Base Station to Verizon Air Card?

Sorry, but the Air Card cannot be used with the USB port on the AirPort Extreme because that port will only work with a hard drive and/or a printer.
Suggest that you check with Verizon to see if they have an adapter or wireless router for the Air Card that will provide an Ethernet signal to the AirPort Extreme.

  • Can I connect my Airport Extreme Time Capsule via ethernet to another router (non-Apple)?

I've been trying to figure this out for a few hours and have gotten nowhere. I have an Archer C7 AC1750 router set up in my office, connected to my Zoom 5341 DOCSIS 3.0 Modem; this has been my main router and has worked fine. I have moved some things around and now have my PS3 and PS4 in my master bedroom but can no longer hook them up via ethernet to the Archer C7. I have run ethernet through the attic into the master bedroom and want to use my Airport Extreme Time Capsule as a way to hook up the consoles via ethernet. If I can use the Airport Extreme to extend my wireless network back to the bedrooms that is even better, although that is an afterthought.
I am not sure what the settings need to be to make this happen. I have searched and tried a number of things but have not found a working solution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please start over with a default reset on the Time Capsule. This will not affect any of the stored data that you might have on the drive. You can use the same device name and password that you used before if you wish.
Power up the Time Capsule for a few minutes. Then hold in the reset button firmly for 10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Make sure that the Ethernet cable connection from the Archer router connects to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule
    Open up AirPort Utility
    Click on Other WiFi Devices
    Click on Time Capsule xxxxxx
AirPort Utility will suggest a setup, which you want to ignore
Instead, click the Other Options button
Select the Create a new wireless network setting and click Next
In the Network Name box, enter the exact name of your Archer wireless network
In the Base Station name box, enter a name that you want to use for the Time Capsule device
Uncheck the box to use a single password
In the Network Password box, enter the password for the Archer wireless network
    Verify on the next line
In the Base Staion box, enter a password that you want to use as a device password for the Time Capsule
    Verify on the next line
Click Next and wait while the AirPort Utility creates a network
Ignore the step about unplugging the modem and click Next
Do not enable the Guest Network option and click Next
Wait while the network is being set up. When you see the message that the wireless network is available, click Done
The Time Capsule will now appear in AirPort Utility with a blinking amber light
Click on the Time Capsule icon, and then click on Edit in the next small box that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the window
Change the setting for Router Mode from DHCP and NAT to "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Click Update at the lower right and click Continue
Wait a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart and you should have a green light
It would be an excellent idea to power off both the Time Capsule and Archer router now, wait a minute, then start the Archer router and let it run a minute. Then, start the Time Capsule up and give it a minute
You should be all set. The Ethernet ports on the Time Capsule are now operable and the wireless network has been extended using AES encryption.

  • Airport Extreme: How to connect a Linksys VOIP device via ethernet

    Hi there!
I am trying to connect Linksys PAP2T device via ethernet to my Aiport Extreme. It gets an address assigned 10.0.1.2 but when I access the device, I am not able to connect to internet. Do I need to key in my network password anywhere?

Okay, so to answer my own question after considerable sleuthing . . . for anyone else trying to do this:
Connect your computer to the bridge using an ethernet cable, then open a browser and enter the following address: http://169.254.1.250
This will take you to a login page: leave the username field blank, enter "admin" in the password.
You will see the Cisco setup page. I selected manual setup and entered the name of my network and password. I got a progress bar and finally the wireless network light on the bridge started flickering.

  • Connecting G3 OS 8.6 via Ethernet to AEBS

Have been using an old D-Link router to connect G4 10.5.8 via airport, Macbook 10.5.8 via airport, Windows laptop XP via wireless and G3 OS 8.6 via ethernet. The G3 because it seems to be the only option for an old, slow but still nice quality printing on a Personal Laserwriter.
In order to improve speed and range bought an Airport Extreme Base Station and all the wireless connections are as predicted faster and range is much better.
But ethernet connection to the G3 doesn't work. Perhaps I need to manually insert router settings in TCP/IP?

A while ago Ethernet ports needed to be connected with the right type of cable: "cross-over" or "straight through". At some point Apple switched to "auto-sensing" Ethernet ports. Your G3 may predate that switch. What I don't know is whether you need one or the other type of cable if one device is auto-sensing and the other device isn't.
When you connect the G3 to the AirPort Extreme unit, is the green light at that Ethernet port on the AirPort unit green? If it is, then the AirPort unit is recognizing that there's a device connected to that port.
I don't remember OS 8.6 well enough to give you any advice about Ethernet configuration. However, there's a "Mac OS 8.x" section in the "Older software products" area of Apple's discussion groups where you may find someone who can help.

  • Connecting Airport Extreme Base Station and HiTron CGN3

A recent installation of Internet/CableTV services by Rogers.ca replaced my Airport Extreme Base Station WiFi network with one based on the Hitron CGN3 Cable Modem/Router.  Many of the WiFi enabled evices in the home were switched to the new network without too much hassle. However, my multiple NEST CO/Fire alarms failed to connect and after some hunting I established that the CGN3, although apparently ipv6 'compatible' has this protocol not enabled.  There is no input facility in the modem setup to activate the protocol.  The importer of the device seems to have chosen to not respond to such tech issues.
It now comes down to either using the CGN3 as a Modem/WiFi server or extending the network to include the Airport Extreme on the CGN3 (don't know how to do that) or vice versa, extending the Airport network to include the CGN3 (don't know how either).
    QUESTION:
Does anyone have any idea on how to make the Airport Extreme and HiTron Modem/Router function together since the Extreme has the ipv6 protocol enabled and NEST (and other 'Internet of Things') devices will reconnect, no problem.
    More Info:
The only reason for the CGN3 to remain as a WiFi server is its range which seems to cover the required service area with a more powerful, stable signal than the Airport.  That is somewhat important since TV services come over the Internet and mobile devices apps available from the Apple store can be used as very capable program guides/selectors and remotes for the HDPVR and secondary HD boxes that feed the TVs, eliminating a remotes collection and associated programming and infra-red transmission hassles.  I believe the Cable boxes would accept getting the TV signals from the CGN3 and function commands from the Airport Extreme networks. That remains to be proven.  Level 2 Technicians at Rogers and NEST Labs have looked at this and can't access the CGN3's ipv6 function to activate it.  They don't know much about the Airport Express.
    Second Thought:
On the other hand, a second apple Airport base station would extend the network range to rival the CGN3 and the WiFi function of the CGN3 could be turned off.  I tried to connect the two routers by LAN cable but they don't seem to see each other and I don't know enough about network settings to get any further.

Whichever airport you use.. express or extreme doesn't matter much..
It should be setup in bridge mode. Plug an ethernet cable from LAN port on the CGN3 to WAN port on the Apple router.
Go into the airport utility and run through the setup. Don't be too worried if it chooses the wrong setup.. you can go back and edit it after the setup is complete.
You will want to open the Edit.
Then go to the various tabs to ensure it is setup the way you want..
On the Network tab.. bridge mode.
On the wireless tab, create a wireless network.
I recommend you use names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. eg AEwifi In my case with Time Capsule I use separate wireless names for the two bands. TC24ghz and TC5ghz but that is up to you.. it can make life easier.. then set channels can also make things easier.
Ensure your IPv6 is setup correctly.
The actual internet option will be dhcp.
You will have two wireless networks.. but both will use the CGN3 as router.. the airport if it worked in the past should work. Even if it is not the dhcp server. BUT let me add there is another way to fix this if this setup doesn't work.. please post back your result.. no luck then I will show you how to setup a static IP with the Apple router.

  • Cannot connect devices using Extend Network via Ethernet

    Hi
I have been going nuts with this issue, and cannot seem to find any solutions. PLEASE HELP!
I have an Airport Extreme (pretty new and all up to date) connected to my modem. Everything works perfectly. The wi-fi is great, all devices can connect without any issues so nothing is wrong here. The Airport extreme is dishing out the IP addresses etc. The Airport extreme is in the lounge.
I purchased a new airport express yesterday. I put it in my study, far away from the lounge. I connected the airport extreme to the airport express using an ethernet cable. I plugged it in, and set it up to extend the wireless network via ethernet. I.e. it is set up in bridged mode and set up to 'create a wireless network' with identical name password etc. Everything is good. It reboots and the light is green. in the Airport utility everything shows up correctly.
Here is the problem., The second that any device (lets say iphone) moves from the lounge to the study, and tries to 'jump' to the stronger network provided by the express, it kills the ENTIRE network. The following happens:
    1. The iphone loses wi-fi signal immediately. If I go into wi-fi settings, it sees my netwrok with FULL strength, but just remains in the 'spinning ball' state trying to connect. Seems to me that the express is unable to hand out an IP address or something.
    2. If i open the airport utility on my Imac (in the study), the airport extreme has a yellow warning light and cannot be found via ethernet OR wi-fi. (The Imac is also Hard Wired from the Airport extreme in the lounge).
THe whole system requires a re-boot in order to work again.
If I re-boot the system, and leave a device near the airport express, it immediately receives signal, gets an IP address, and has an internet connection. Going back to the lounge causes no issues, it doesnt drop signal and still connects to the internet via the extreme. But as soon as I walk back into the study again - BOOM, everything drops.
I only purchased the new express because i was having EXACTLY the same issue with an older Airport extreme. No matter what I do, it just wont work via ethernet. I have tried all manner of settings. The ONLY setting that seems to work is to extend the wi-fi network. However, the rooms are too far apart, and this will require a third station in the middle, which i want to avoid (by the time the wifi network is extended across 3 decvices it is too slow).

Can I use airport express to make my pc pick up the wifi by plugging the pc into the ethernet socket?
Yes. But, it is the AirPort Express that would "pick up the wifi". Then, you would connect an Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express to the PC.
Configure the AirPort Express to "Join a wireless network" and click the option to "Enable Ethernet clients" during the setup to activate the Ethernet port on the device.
I would also plug a printer (currently connected to the pc) into the usb, so it can become a shared printer.
There is a good chance that your printer will work connected this way, but you won't really know until you try.

  • Wireless connection airport extreme base station to dsl modem

Attempting to set up a home network through an old Airport Extreme Base Station.  My old DSL modem (AT&T's 2 Wire Gateway) has one enthernet port that is taken up, and I want to know if there is a way to connect the DSL modem wirelessly to the AEBS.  I have a laptop PC, my wife has a MacBook, and a Mac Mini is connected to the HDTV.  Currently, the AEBS is only connected to a printer, and all computers can connect to it fine.  Want to home netweork for back up files, and to share movies, music and vidoes.  Just want to work with the equipment I have and not buy a new modem.

Sorry, but no. You will not be able to connect the AEBS by wireless to the DSL wireless gateway to get the results you are looking for. Instead, you could either connect it directly to the gateway's Ethernet port, and then, connect whatever was connected to the gateway to the AEBS instead, OR connect an Ethernet switch to the Gateway, and in turn, connect the AEBS to the switch.

  • Netgear wireless router won't connect to my HP Pavilion via ethernet cable

I had bought the Netgear LT wireless router for my home and I cannot get my Pavilion PC to connect via the ethernet cable. All of our tablets will connect wirelessly as well as my laptop. The laptop will also connect using the ethernet cable. I had used a wireless broadband card on my PC for that last several years without a problem, now I can't seem to connect to the internet with this new tool. When I do try to connect, a pop-up screen appears with suggestions of using the connections from the past (ie. dial-up, broadband, mobil), but does not show an option for this new router.
Someone had suggest that I may need to get an updated driver for the ehternet card, and if so, how to I get said updated driver to instal over to my PC without being connected to the internet? I've tried to reconfigure and add a "new network" connection without any luck and have uninstalled the old programs pertaining to the old connection devices.
As of now, I'm having to download my business materials on my laptop, then transfer the files to the PC via thumb drives. I'm sure I'm just overlooking something rather simple, as it is usually the case for most, I imagine. Can anyone give me another alternative to fix this issue? I plan on leaving the PC connected to the router via ethernet, while using the wireless WiFi for the other devices.
    Thank you in advance!!

    Hi,
Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers. This will allow others to review your issue, make suggestions and review your responses. This is usually the best way to get assistance.  Additionally, what operating system are you using?

  • Connecting ibook and Power Mac via Ethernet

Is it possible to connect my ibook g4, with my Power Mac G4 via ethernet? I simply want to make it so I can swap files between the two. They're both running Tiger, 10.4.11, if that means anything at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mac OS X file sharing ( hope you know another language than english ). You need to go into sharing & turn on file sharing. It will share your public folder.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106461
The Mac OS client shares the the public folder. You may try putting an alias in your public folder to the flash drive. To share the flash drive directly, you need SharePoints.
The Mac OS X client version contains most of the sharing software. It doesn't contain an extensive GUI for manipulating the software configuration.
"SharePoints is an application or a preference pane that makes it easy to add and delete share points like in the old Finder. In Mac OS X, by default, you are limited to sharing only what is in your public folder in your home directory. This program makes it easy to share any folder."
    http://www.hornware.com/sharepoints/
Mac OS includes support for NFS, the native Unix network file sharing system. You may share files between Mac OS X systems with NFS as well as other Unix Systems. However, the documentation on how you make the shares is rather limited. Once you learn how to configure the net info database with the netinfo command, the shares are not too hard to make.

  • [Solved]Connection of my Arch PC via Ethernet stop all other connect

    Hi all,
This is weird! I updated my arch pc today, and I realised that all other connection to the router (a UK skybox) stop.
Per example, if my Android phone is connected before the PC starts - the connection to the router remain live, but while trying to access a web page I have a you are offline page. If the phone isn't connected before the pc is started then the phone simply refuse to connect to the router!
Looking at the logs from the skybox no update was done recently - and booting the PC onto windows and it all work normally.
I am connected via ethernet with a local static IP.
I have no idea where to look, any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

  • Connecting Macbook with Time Capsule via Ethernet

    Hello!
I have a time capsule and a macbook. I used to backup my data with the time capsule via ethernet. Now there was an update to airport I guess and since then the menue to configure the time capsule looks different and now I have trouble finding out how to set up the connection between macbook and time capsule via ethernet. I dont want the WLAN to be used so I want the ethernet be the connecting part of both esp because i want to backup lots of data now but Im missing the setting that said use use time capsule via ethernet. I just dont know how to set it up now.
I have the ethernet cable in the very left ethernet slot next to the reset button of the time capsule and its also plugged in to the ethernet slot on the macbook. But what are the settings for this connection.
Can someone help please otherwise i think my 23GB backup will take 3 days...
    Thanks in advance
    Dine

Open the network preferences and make sure the ethernet is getting an IP from the TC.. you do not need to change any settings .. all you need is network connection.. if the ethernet is working just turn off airport for the time the backup is going on. Once you turn off airport in the MBP the connection will be forced to ethernet. You can do it more correctly by rearranging the order of preference for network connection.. but for now.. just turn off airport.

  • OS X 10.2 w/ Airport Card Connecting to Extreme Base Station

    Hey--
I'm on a G3 Powerbook (w/Firewire) running OS X 10.2 and I installed an Airport Card and I'm trying to connect to a new Extreme Base Station-- and PB can't see the Base station in the Airport Utility. Although my PB does receive the signal from the base station.
    I've tried:
    - Resetting the base station
    - Loaded Airport 2.1.1 software update
    - a million configurations
    - yelling at it...
The airport card does work, because it connected on another wireless system.
Can someone help me with the definative fix?
    Mike

Welcome to the discussion area, stacidesign!
First, you have verified that the PC can connect to another wireless network, correct? If it can, then that tells you that the wireless card is functioning correctly.
You'll have better luck connecting to a newer wireless router if you are able to update the PC to Windows XP SP3. Have you tried this?
It's also possible that the wireless card in the PC can connect to a 802.11 "b" or "g" network, but not to an "n" network. To check that out, you need to use AirPort Utility - Manual Setup to make a change in the radio mode of the AirPort Extreme.
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Radio Mode selection box
Write down your current settings so you can return to them later if needed
    Select this Radio Mode...+802.11n only (5 GHz) -- 802.11 b/g+
Keep the Wireless Security set to "None" temporarily
Update to save changes and allow 30-40 seconds for the AirPort Extreme to restart
    Restart the PC
See if the PC can connect now
Please post back on your results
