Aha. Sounds like a bad block on the hard disk. Is your data backed up, or can you get to your machine to the point where you can back it up?
Don't use erase free space unless your data is backed up.

  • Ipad crashes when surfing the net,

When on the internet my Ipad will just suddenly go back to the app pages ( home ) don't know why it's just started doing it. Tried closing safari and thought it worked but it's not still doing it. Please help anyone.

    How full is your iPad?
Try Clearing History, Cookies and data. Then do a hard reset. Hold down the home and power buttons. Screen will go blank, Keep holding until apple logo appears. Still no luck then try restore and reinstall a previous back up.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes skipping/stopping when surfing the 'net

Hi -- apologies if someone has already answered this ... I've gone through other posts about skipping and not found the answer.
My iTunes plays fine if it's the only programme running. However, when I surf the net at the same time as listen to music in my library, the sound skips and often just stops for entire songs, suddenly coming back on several songs later -- the iTunes player looks as though it's playing, but there is no sound. Particularly when I'm downloading a webpage, the longer the page takes to download the images, the more trouble I have with iTunes sound.
I've already set Quicktime for waveout(only) and ensured all my drivers and DirectX are up to date.
I've got sufficient RAM and no other programmes seem to have memory problems. I'm on a good broadband connection as well. There are no drivers that seem out of date and there is no conflict/problem according to the Device Manager. This happens so matter which internet browser I'm using, as well.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
Fujitsu Deskpower C600   Windows XP   SoundMAX integrated digital audio (Fujitsu sound card)

    You can try this out.
    Go into the Device Manager.
Open up the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
Right click on the Primary IDE Channel.
    Selected Properties.
clicked on the Advanced Settings tab.
Any device drive (CD or DVD drive) should be listed here or in the Secondary IDE Channel, and if any of them are showing in the Current Transfer mode as something mentioning PIO then something is wrong.
uninstall the driver for that particular IDE Channel, reboot the system to force it to reinstall the driver. You shouldn't need your windows install cds for this but have them on hand just in case. The drive should be re-recognized as Ultra DMA 5 or some type of DMA drive.
I can't really explain why a Current Transfer Mode of PIO on a CD or DVD drive that I wasn't using would cause such problems but it would appear that my problem had something to do with the sound studdering, slowing, pausing.

  • Imac Keeps Crashing When Browsing the net (often when scrolling)

    Hello,
I bought a refurished imac from Dixons about a fortnight ago. I was provided with no discs so I can't do a hardware test.
In the last few days my imac has started crashing. It has always crashed when I'm browsing the internet and usually happens when I'm scrolling. At first i thought it was Google Chrome so I switched to Safari but the same has continued to happen. The screen usually goes grey and I a message telling me to power off my imac and restart.
I keep getting a similar log to this:

What could be causing these crashes?
    Thanks for your help.

As a first step I'd suspect Avast - try fully uninstalling it, you don't need it.
You could try a 'safe boot' which should boot the Mac without loading the non-Apple stuff. Test web-browsing to see if the kernel panics go away.
To Safe Boot: restart holding down the shift key until the grey progress bar appears. The Mac should boot in 'stripped down mode' allowing you to run a few tests web-browsing. Restart as normal from the Apple menu when you're done.
If the Mac came with no disks you are probably running OS X 10.7.x Lion. You can check/repair your disk by booting while holding down Command+R which takes you to Lion's recovery mode. You can run Disk Utility from there to verify/repair your disk should you ever need to.
If you feel you want some anti-virus software the one that is most often recommended on these forums as being trouble-free on Macs is the free/donationware clamXav: www.clamxav.com

  • How is the Iphone protected from virus, malware, spyware, etc. when surfing the net?

I'm concerned about malicious software and virus attack on my I phone.  I surfed the same internet sites as I do on my computer with my iphone; on my desk top I caught a trojan horse type virus.  Is my Iphone susceptible to similar attacks?

The browser is sandboxed. It does not support plug-ins and can not download documents or programs containing executable code. As long as you don't jailbreak the phone, you don't have to worrry.

  • IMAC OSX 10.7.4 Safari why does screen suddenly change to large print etc when I cam surfing the net and how do I change it back to normal size

Safari - Since changing from Leopard to OSX when surfing the net, my screen suddenly changes to large print/icons etc.  How do I change it back to normal.  It is driving me crazy

That's caused by the "Smart zoom" feature of the magic mouse.  It's a Double tap with one finger to zoom and repeat to unzoom.
You can turn the feature off if desired in System Preferences > Mouse > Point & Click tab

  • Lion upgrade prohibits second i-Mac machine from downloading email and surfing the net???

I upgraded to Lion this evening, trusting that that all the updates would have resolved the wireless connection problem i had when upgrading to Lion 2 months back. No hope, both my I-Macs can see one another and i can share files across the two of them. My main Mac connects to the Internet by Wireless Modem; this modem is attached to my mac by Ethernet cable. My second Mac  could connect to my main Mac and use the Internet connection to download email and surf the net.
Now i have upgraded to Lion on my main machine, but the same problem occurs, my second machine can connect with Wi-Fi to my main machine but cannot get access to the net or download, and this was working fine until i upgraded from Leopard to Lion.
I have created a new network, unpluged the modem, switched on again, tried everything i could find in the forums, but i still cannot connect to the net on my second machine.
Please help, unfortunately Apple support in Africa is not very helpfull.

So you're not using a wireless connection for your main Mac? Is that correct?
If I understand correctly, your main Mac is connected to the router via an Ethernet cable, and your 'second' Mac is connected to your 'main' mac wirelessly. is that correct?
If  so, why not connect the 2nd Mac wirelessly direct to your router?

  • Keep getting a prompt to install java even when not surfing the net. I have java installed and the control panel says it is right version. Want to know how to stop prompts. This started after I installed Yosemite.

Since installing Yosemite I keep getting a prompt to install Java even when I am not surfing the net. Went system preferences and I have recommended version installed. I want to know how to stop the prompts. I do not have this problem on my iMac.

Most likely, you have either the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. Both depend on the Java runtime distributed by Apple. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it. Otherwise, install Java.

  • Cant surf the net when using C4580 wireless

    Hi,
I have on C4580 and when I turn the printer wireless on my Internet just kind of freezes
I can print and I can find computers in network but I cant surf the net
I don't know why this is happening.
I already fully "rebooted" router and printer configs and I got nothing...
    What can I do?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

OK, a very simplified version (it may not work since I skipped some steps):
First, print a network configuration page from the printer's front panel (you will need number off of it later).  Then:
Unplug he telephone line from the router.
Turn the power off on the router, wait 30 seconds, then turn the power back on.
From your router interface, choose Advanced (along the top) then DHCP Server along the left side.
In the Add Static IP address area type in the printer's MAC address and it IP address (from the printout).
Click Add/Apply and plug in the telephone line into the router.
    Now everything should work.....???
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

I'm really tired of all the redirect I get when I'm surfing the net. i've set in the option to warn when trying to redirect

If you are being re-directed to other sites, particularly when searching, this can be caused by malware. Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Malwarebytes]
    * [http://www.superantispyware.com/ SUPERAntiSpyware]
    * [http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Ad-Aware]
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx Windows Defender]
    * [http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html Spybot S&D]
If the above malware scanners do not find any malware or can not clear it, you should consider posting in one of these forums for specialized malware removal help:

  • Nokia 770: Can't Surf The Net In Hotels

When trying to connect my Nokia 770 Internet Tablet while in hotels, I find that my success is hit and miss. But I can use a laptop and connect. The difference is the browser on the laptop defaults to a web page from the ISP where I have to agree to some terms before being allowed to surf the net. How do I get to this default page with the Nokia 770?Message Edited by cxbank on 26-Jan-2007

Well, both really. Sometimes I can open the browser and surf for a while fine, then it hangs. Other times it hangs as soon as I open the browser. I've also noticed that the iTunes visualizer hangs unless it is in full screen mode. It never used to do that. In fact, I used to have trouble getting a full screen visualizer, now it's all I can do. Windows is updated. I suppose I could try sound and video card updates.

  • ITunes 12 crashes when accessing the store

I installed Yosemite and iTunes 12.0.1. Since then, it crashes when accessing the store (wolor wheel)
I re-installed iTunes. It works with my Library when my iMac is disconnected from the net, but as soon as iTunes tries to access the store and refresh iTunes Match… Bang. It freezes again and I have to re-install it (it freezes again when I restart, even when disconnected).
Ho can I solve this, please ?

I was having the same issue. iTunes Match had little or none to do with it. Basically anything that required logging into the store (I needed to re auth). Frustrating because iTunes now makes you use your apple id for the tiniest little tasks, and worse yet, it shows logged in, but it really isn't. Anytime I tried to authenticate it would time out and then cause iTunes and a library file to not respond, causing me to force quit. I did notice my wireless connection was suffering. I rebooted my router and tried again, voila! connected and authorized! no time outs! iTunes 12.0.1.26 seems to be a little sensitive to weak connections?

  • HT1338 my computer it's very slow when surfing the internet?

my computer it's very slow when surfing the internet

    Hello again
As suggested I checked all CPU data in the Activity Monitor folder and could not see anything running that appeared to be draining CPU space or competing with other applications.  The following are the results from the Activity Monitor data:
    CPU:  %User - 0.37, %System - 0.62, %Idle - 99.12
    System Memory:  Free - 4.90GB, Wired - 1.15GB, Active - 1.48GB, Inactive - 468.1MB, Used - 3.09GB
I also ran a test on my Mac using www.sppedtest.net, the results are as follows:
    Ping Speed - 1575ms, Download Speed - 0.15Mbps, Upload Speed - 0.04Mbps
I am hoping this provides enough information to direct me on what next to check as my Mac internet performance is still poor.
    Thank you for your time

  • Problems just surfing the net

    Hello Everyone,
I hate to insult anyone’s intelligence, but I am a new MAC user. I just bought my ibook a few days ago, and to be real honest I am ready to toss it out of my window.
Here is the simplest of my problems: When I surf the net, most, if not all of the pages fail to come up completely. Some will show links, others just backgrounds. But they consistently do not show the jpegs. Little blue question marks show up in place. Is there anything I can do?
One more thing, is there a simple way for me to know which operating system my mac is running on?
    Thanks a MILLION! - David

    Hey DB -
To know latest system updates click on application name in upper bar, like "Safari" > About Safari = will tell you what version you are currently running. To check out updates click on Apple Icon (upper left bar) >System Prefs>"System" click Software Updates; this will show updates you can load.Tip: Recommend going to 'Mac OSX Software' under the blue Apple icon and downloading from there instead of from Software Update
Safari isn't working very well as of a couple of months ago. I can't get images or buttons to load and web pages take forever to appear. I recommend using Opera or Firefox until Safari gets fixed. Was hoping the Safari update or the Java update would help, but so far no dice. Please fix Safari Apple cuz when it's working well it is fabulous!!

  • I have an Apple MacBook Pro and when surfing the web my computer will slow to a crawl and I will have a multi-colored spinning wheel visible until my latest request is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way to prevent this from occuring

I have a MacBook Pro.  When surfing the web it will eventually slow to a crawl.  When this occurs, there will be a small multi-colored wheel spinning until my latest command is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way that I can modify or prevent this from happening?  Is there a setting that will prevent this?

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
