Machine will not boot into Windows!!

I formatted a 32 GB partition in NTFS, then successfully installed Windows XP Pro along with Leopard Bootcamp drivers. All was well. And then I tried to restart.
I held the "Option" key until the Mac OS and Windows drives showed. Selected the Windows drive and clicked on the arrow. Nothing happened except for the cursor freezing in position and the drive eventually spinning down. A light touch on the power button shut the machine down.
I have tried selecting the Windows drive as the default startup disc in System Preferences, no dice.
What have I done wrong? What can be done to repair the issue? I need help, wife about to start throwing stuff
All the best,
Chumpy

Odd thing I noticed. When installing the Windows XP Pro, new full installation disc, not repair disc, I had to shut down before installing the Leopard disc and loading Bootcamp and Leopard drivers because I ran out of time. The machine booted right into Windows the next time I tried. Then, after loading Bootcamp and drivers off Leopard disc the machine will not restart into Windows.
I have tried to do it by selecting it as the default drive and by pressing "Option" and selecting the Windows drive. Neither approach does anything. Literally. The optical drive and the harddrive eventually spin down and the machines white screen is frozen.
So, I have redone the partition in Bootcamp Assistant. When I try to boot to the installation disc now, it won't go. For some reason this is just not working at all.
Frustrated,
Chumpy

  • MacBook Pro will not boot into Windows 7.

I am sorry if this has been discussed before, but I could not find a correct answer.  I recieved my 15" MacBook Pro last week, and I swapped out a few of the inside's for upgrades.  I replaced the optical drive with a NewMode 2nd HDD Caddy, and a Hitachi 750 GB 7200RPM HDD.  I also upgraded the RAM to 8GB.  I bought the HDD so I could put Windows 7 on it.  I went through the bootcamp process, partitioned 90 GB of my 2nd drive, and rebooted with my Windows 7 CD in my external CD drive.  When it rebooted, it went to this black screen with a blinking cursor.  I have tried many different ways to boot to the CD; like rEFIt and option key with no luck.  It is not the disc because I have tried many bootable discs and none of them have worked.
Any help would be appreciated Thnx.

You cannot boot Windows from an external device. The Windows installer and Windows itself must be booted from an internal optical drive.
You can do some Google searching on how to create a bootable USB flash drive for installing Windows, but they all will require access to a Windows machine.
The new Boot Camp Assistant does provide an option for creating a bootable USB flash drive, but I don't know if it requires that the Windows installer DVD be in an internal optical drive.

  • My iMac will not boot into the Apple Hard Ware test. Why is this?

I have a late 2012 27 inch iMac. It will not boot into the Apple Hard Ware test. I do have File Vault turned on. Will this stop it from booting in to the test?

See Using Apple Hardware Test. For some Apple computers that shipped with OS X Lion, if Apple Hardware Test cannot be found on the hard drive, an Internet-based version starts up instead. An Internet-enabled connection via ethernet or Wi-Fi is required to use this feature. Some computers that shipped with Lion require a software update to use this feature. • G5 will not boot into OSX - stays at a command-line prompt

My G5 will not boot into OS X. I would appreciate and and all advice. Thanks.
    What happened:
I had the G5 running one morning, with the Isight camera on, plugged into the front-console firewire port. I was running EvoCam software.
At about 2 hours into running, the cam stopped broadcasting – I got home to check it out three hours later, and the screen was black, and the fan was louder than I had ever, ever heard it on this box.
I did a hard shut-down with the powerbutton on the Cinema Display monitor.
At reboot, I see a grey screen for approx 5 seconds, with a dark grey apple logo, and then the screen goes to black, with a command-line prompt.
It’s been like that ever since.
I ran the Apple Hardware test, from the internal CD drive, and it shows no errors.
I cannot boot from an OSX installer DVD. It won’t recognize it. It goes straight to the black screen and Command line prompt.
I have re-seated the RAM, as well as the Airport Card. The only other card – which I have not re-seated, it the video card.
I am able to use the machine in Target Mode, so I can extract data from the drives, which is great. Oddly enough, I’m able to use the front-console firewire port to connect to my other Mac in Target mode – with no problems. Also – in Target mode, the fan never goes above the usual quiet self.
I would appreciate any advice one can provide. Thanks!

  • Installed Leopard 10.5.1, Will not boot into Win XP

I installed Leopard recently on my work laptop.
Before it had 10.4.11 and Win XP properly working on it.
Now after Leopard was installed, It will not boot into Win XP,
just gives a Black Screen and never progresses past that,
I hard reboot, and it boots fine back into Leopard.
All software updates up until 10.5.2 have been applied,
will applying 10.5.2 fix this issue?

All my financial records are on the Windows side of the iMac. I've used BootCamp for more than a year, I have MacOS 10.5 (very recently updated from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2), and there has been no problem with starting Windows until today. When I restart and hold down the option key, it always boots up into the MacOS. How do I get Windows?

  • I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my warranty just ran out! I partitioned my harddrive into two partitions, one with Snow Leopard and the other with microsoft. This morning I turned on my Macbook Pro and it will not boot into Snow Leopard.

    Good Morning,
I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my warranty just ran out! I partitioned my harddrive into two partitions, one with Snow Leopard and the other with microsoft. This morning I turned on my Macbook Pro and it will not boot into Snow Leopard. I shut it off took out the battery, reinstalled the battery. Then I put in the Snow Leopard CD and booted up to disk utility and The Snow Leopard partion would not show up?? I do see the microsoft partion.
I also rebooted holding down the shift key and still no Snow Leopard
Could you please tell me what I can do, what keys do I press on restart any advice to get Snow leopard back.
    thank you.

Have you restarted holding down the Opt key?  That procedure should give you a gray screen with all of the partitions that exist.  Then select the SL partition for boot.  Also go to System Preferences and Startup Disk, unlock the lock and select the SL partition as the default boot partition, then relock.

and i get a message on black screen  "you are trying to load an opperating system not compatable" or some thing like that
it would seem that the bios is the problem and not the CPU ? the 08 bios update only covers x32 bit and not x64

i see that you work for HP ? do you have any suggestion's for my problem ?
as i mentioned before the notebook works faultlessly when X64 windows 7 is installed via the OEM disk in the external DVD drive , but if i disconnect the DVD drive it will not boot, but gets stuck in boot loop , then if i connect the drive with any windows installation disc loaded in it , it loads perfect and works perfect even if i disconnect when loaded  , but i can not keep the drive connected ?
i have tried to use a USB flash drive to install X64 windows 7 but it comes back that the present CPU is not compatible ??
when it clearly states on Intel web site that it is and it works perfect when loaded ?? even the Windows update manager confirms that it will run all X64 windows OS
i understand the the bios "InsydeH20" is a very difficult bios to work with, and that Insyde have blocked the "hidden menu" via software ? i have exhausted all the software functions to open the complete bios that i can find at the moment  ,  i think it is locked out from out side the bios and not from inside.?
any  pointers in the right direction would be very helpful  ,

  • Macbook pro will not boot into Mac OSX

When i got my MacBook Pro it would boot into Mac OSX fine. Now it wont even give me the option and will only let me boot into Windows which i have running through bootcamp. I have tried reinstalling MacOSX but my OSX installion DVD will not get recognised and i cannot boot off it either. I have tried using 2 other discs still with the same issue. The confusing thing is that the CD/DVD drive works fine and the MacOSx discs work fine in other macs as i have tried it in my brothers machine.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

I don't think that the laptop even has Mac installed anymore becuase in an attempt to reinstall Mac the partition was formatted. And I can't boot of the disc becuase it just ejects by itself after a few seconds in the drive.

  • X102e - Hard drive does not boot into Windows

Hi, I was trying to reinstall Windows on my X120e.
I tried clean install with Windows 7 Professional, but the hard drive does not boot into the Windows once it has done the first phase of the install(you know, the copying part)
After the restart done by Windows, it goes as far as "Starting Windows" but does not actually boot into the Windows.
When I try to install Windows with another HDD, the device works well, but I can't swap the HDD because it is not 7.5mm think HDD.
Is there any possibility the HDD will work trough any software-level process? The HDD works fine as external HDD when tested with external HDD adapter, and installs well. only problem is that it fails to boot

    Thank you for reply.
This is not exactly the issue. I was talking about the HDD originally installed in the PC.
The PC successfully recognizes the external disk I used to install the Windows, but the problem was that I did not boot into the "First boot" screen, which basically works on the already installed data.
As of now I have installed an SSD and is working fine. strange part is that HDD works just fine when I use it as an external HDD via adapter. Strange huh?

  • Machine will not boot; hard drive makes clicking noise

My G4 will not boot up.
    Here are the symptoms:
    It passed the hardware test;
    Will not perform a safe start - so cannot run disk utility;
Hard drive makes a clicking noise.
I'd appreciate any advice about how to proceed.

    Yes, as mentioned backup now. best not to use your Mac till you do. The drive may fail for good. Here's some tips on replacing your drive (they are pretty inexpensive now);
    This is by SDMacuser,
Even if you have never installed nor pulled a HD from a Powermac...... trust me....it is not all that difficult.
I can actually switch internal HD's among 3 separate G4 Towers I own in a matter of minutes (often less than 10 minutes).
Simply power the system down and ground yourself (a grounding strap is recommended or at the very least touching the metal frame to discharge any potential static electricity prior to actually touching the HD or any internal components on your system).
Disconnect the power cable to the back of the HD, then the long ide connector on the back of the HD / cable (pull straight back while grasping the black connector with 2 fingers ... do not yank the actual ribbon cable).
All of my HD's are mounted or bolted to their own metal sleds (either single sled or a dual sled) with 4 screws.
Unscrew the small screw (philips) holding the sled in place on position one below the ide connector or cable. And gently remove the sled & HD from the Powermac without bumping / damaging other internal components.
Remove the 4 screws from the sled itself holding the HD in place. Be careful not to allow the drive to fall once all screws have been removed.
Install the new HD (and make sure to address proper jumpers on the back of the HD itself.)
Now reverse this process with new HD for proper installation into the G4 Powermac.
    Any questions just post back.
btw ... there are a few QT demos on apples web sites showing how to do this.
     Cheers! DALE

  • HP Pavilion 15-n268sa will not boot after windows update (windows 8.1)

After a series of windows update (windows 8.1) my HP Pavilion 15-n268sa will not boot up, no fan noises, no lights no nothing.
I have tried a "hard reset" a number of times with no success.
When the battery is present the white LED flashes 3 times when the power button is pressed.
    Please please help.

    Hello Cuffy,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you notebook will not boot after a series of Windows updates.
Can you tell me if you are able to access the HP Recovery Manager by repeatedly tapping the F11 key while the notebook turns on? If you can access this, try doing a system restore to before you installed the updates. If not I would suggest you go through this document: Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps.
If it's the Caps Lock light that is blinking this document will tell you exactly what the error is (spoiler: 3 beeps is a memory failure). This could also explain the failed updates. The updates are stored in the RAM before being applied to the operating system.
You can try reseating the RAM, or using only 1 of the RAM cards, as you have 2x4GB cards. If it still doesn't work with 1 card, try the other card to confirm it has failed.
You can replace defective cards via HP Phone Support if covered under warranty or at the HP Part Store if not covered. You can contact HP Technical Support at 1-800-474-6836 in North America. For all other regions click here.
    Hopefully this information helps!

  • IMac will not boot into OSX after startup disk switch in control panel.!

I am having trouble with my son's iMac DV SE (graphite) running Classic and OSX (10.3.9). Typically, the computer runs in OS9 as the startup system because most of the kids' software we run is old and uses Classic. Over the weekend, I changed the startup disk to OSX in the control panels and restarted the computer so I could install some new software. The computer will not boot past the gray apple and progress indicator. I have tried resetting the PRAM, booting from the CD and restarting with the options key depressed to no avail. (Can't do a Safeboot either.) I was able to put the iMac into target mode and access the control panels via my laptop and restart in OS9. I thought I had resolved the issue causing the startup problem, but I was wrong. Now I can't get past the gray apple or access the hard disk through target mode (the iMac hard disk does not appear on the laptop's desktop). Is there a way to force the computer back into OS9 other than holding down the option key at startup? When I try this, I get the hard disk icon, but I can't move it off of OSX. Thanks in advance for any help.

Is there a way to force the computer back into OS9 other than holding down the option key at startup?
Holding down the OPTION key will only work if OS 9 is on a different partition than the OS X installation. If they are on the same partition, it won't work.
One way to get it back to OS 9 is to boot from the OS 9 or OS X installation disc. Then set the control panel, or preference pane, to boot from the OS 9 installed on the hard drive.
Another way is to boot from the OS 9 install disc and perform a clean install of OS 9. This will create a new OS 9 System folder and it will NOT touch any other files on the drive. KB 58176, Mac OS 8.5, Mac OS 9: Performing a Clean Installation

  • Satellite L300-135 not booting into windows!

bought it about 2 years ago everything worked perfectly until today where it's even unable to boot into windows vista...I just turn it on when the windows loading bar is loading then it shows blue screen for 0.1 sec and it resets itself... even the safe mode wouldn't start and restore mode (last good known config) couldn't help it to start...i tried using an ubuntu linux live cd to save my datas but couldn't boot either, gave an error stating something as abnormal.
    so where's the problem ?
Windows boot manager tried to find the problem and is telling me this:
    status: 0xc00000e9
info: An unexpected I/O error has occured.

    > so where's the problem ?
Who knows??? Do you think its so easy to say whats exactly wrong without running any tests???
Maybe its just a software issue but a hardware issue (RAM, motherboard, etc..) can be possible too.
As I understood your message, you want to access the data and to backup the necessary files
Well, the Toshiba recovery disk would format the whole HDD therefore you should backup the data before usage of recovery disk.
You could remove the HDD from the notebook and could connect it to another computer using an external USB HDD case.
After backup, you could use the recovery disk to reinstall the Windows.
