Macintosh Does Not Have Supported Superdrive

I have an eMac that came with a Superdrive from 2002. The only thing I did recently was upgrade to the most recent version of iTunes. I have been having problems burning DVDs.
I ran ONYX. It worked.
I then had problems.
I ran Onyx again and it didn't help. I burned to an external drive with 101 GB of space it worked.
I tried to burn again on the same drive and I got told MACINTOSH DOES NOT HAVE SUPPORTED SUPERDRIVE.
Is there a setting I haven't checked on.
Could the new iTunes be causing this problem.
Any help troubleshooting would be great.

First of all thank you so much for the response. I have downloaded the doc (below) you suggest and am about to carefully read it to see if I can figure out what is going on.
Read this:
SuperDrive: Important Information About Using With
High-Speed Media
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86130
Also, are you really running 10.2.x ? X = what?
Second, I am running an iMac Version 10.2.8 At least that is what it says in the About this Mac menu. Actually, it says Version 10.2.8 Processor: 800 MHz PowerPC G4
I got this whole set up in May 2002 , have done periodic updates and had absolutely no trouble burning DVDs until the past six months. That's when I used a no-name batch of printable DVDs. It's my first shot at printables. (The music CDs I've printed look terrific & play fine.) The DVD projects are turning out to be a pain, however. I thought the problem was the DVDs.
I did go into the console log via the System Profiler. Found this info regarding the failed burn:
iDVD: Burning to PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104 A227 via ATAP1.
iDVD: Requested burn speed was max, actual burn speed is 7x.
iDVD: Burn started, Mon Jan 30 23:47:28 2006
iDVD: Burn underrun protection is supported, and enabled.
iDVD: Write (10), block: 800, count:32 ->3/11/05 Medium Error, L-EC uncorrectable error
iDVD: Burn failed, Mon Jan 30 23:47:56 2006
iDVD: Burn sense: 3/11/05 Medium Error, L-EC uncorrectable error
iDVD: Burn error: 0x80020060 The device drained its butter without burn underrun protection.
It's mostly Greek to me except that the burn failed. (That it did!)
I appreciate your help. I try hard to understand this stuff, but lately I seem to spend more time sorting out techie issues than editing.

  • Macintosh does not have a Supported Superdrive

I have a 9 month old Macintosh IBook G4 using Mac OS 10.3.9
I am trying to burn my first DVD using the IDVD program. When I open the IDVD program I get a message:
Your Macintosh does not have a supported SuperDrive. Thus I can not burn a DVD.
Get anyone give me some tips about what this means? Seams like I basically have a new Mac (within 1 year) so I should be able to burn DVDs some way.
    Thanks.
    John Ellis

Some iBooks have a drive which will read and write CDs but only read DVDs. Check your specification either in the documentation or by pulling down the apple menu and clicking on about this mac and examining the hardware.

  • Rep. does not have support for Oracle Designer

We're new to SCM and just useing SCM with JDeveloper.
Sorry for newbie stupidness. Searches of this forum didn't
turn up any hits on 21247 or other strings.
Given: brand new install of SCM. Created a private workarea
with RON. Attempting to use RAU to enable branching and
    versioning.
    I'm having some chicken-vs-the-egg problems. I can't
enable branching in my shared workarea with RAU because it
seems to want to pop up the Migration Dialogue and then
    this error occurs:
    CDR-21247: Error Cannot proceed!
The target repository does not have support for Oracle Designer
    objects
Any help or tip would be greatly appreciated.

    Curt,
If you managed to create a private workarea from the RON then versioning is enabled. You would have enabled this from the RAU.
Oracle 9i JDeveloper release candidate provides a wizard to create the workarea and private branch.
There are now two flavours of the repository, one with Designer + file and folder support and one with just files and folder support.
If you have no structured Designer components you do not require the Designer support to use JDeveloper with Oracle SCM.
I suggest you try the JDeveloper wizards. The RAU also offers a menu to examine repository object state. Check that you have no invalid
objects, they can be recompiled using the RAU.

  • Team Site default site assets library does not have support for video, images, etc..

    Greetings,
Our users have noticed that when they create a new subsite that the default site assets library does not give them the option to create a new document type of video, image, etc.. just a word document.
If I create a new asset library I do see all the options when creating a new file from the drop down menu under the ribbon >files>new document
Is this default behavior when creating a new team site or is there something that I can configure so that the default site assets library that is built is really a site assets library and not a standard document library?

i think you are talking about the "Site Assets" Library and this is not meant for the Asset Library.Yes this is default behavior.
Site Assets: Use this library to store files which are included on pages within this site, such
as images on Wiki pages. jsut think about the other OOTB libraries i.e Style, Pages libraries etc.
Assets Library is the one you need to add in your site collection to take the advantage of it.

  • Your macintosh does not have a supported SuperDrive

"please note that while you will be able to work with iDVD projects, you will not be able to burn a iDVD disc".
Can someone tell me how I can burn a disc? Many thanks

You will not be able to burn a dvd. You have a combo drive, not a super drive. A combo drive will read dvds but not burn them.
Your best option is to get an external dvd burner.
    Good Luck...

  • Why does not java support raw sockets?

Java does not have support for raw sockets, that means it cannot receive the packet header, just the payload data.
But the header data of an ICMP packet consists of 20 bytes, and you can still write single bytes in Java, so why isn´t is possible to write a header for an ICMP packet in Java?
Can someone explain how it all works?
    Thanks!

You can do raw sockets with third party libraries. They won't be pure java - but you didn't really expect to do raw sockets on your cell phone or TV set top box, or spy and spoof someone's network using an applet.
The FAQ for one such library hints what kind of a mess raw sockets are due to differences in common operating systems; see http://www.savarese.com/software/rocksaw/

  • I'm trying to install OS 10.6 onto my Macbook, which currently has OS 10.5.8. I clicked install (on the DVD) and selected my Macintosh HD drive. I was given the message that that disk cannot be used because it does not have the GUID partition????

I'm trying to install OS 10.6 onto my Macbook, which currently has OS 10.5.8. I clicked install (on the DVD) and selected my Macintosh HD drive. I was given the message that that disk cannot be used because it does not have the GUID partition. In order to have a GUID partition, it suggested I go to disk utility and make the change. I couldn't see the partition tabs in the disk utility application. So how do I accomplish the GUID partition?

The problem is, reformatting the partition may require you erase the hard drive.   Normally Intel Macs are preformatted GUID.    The fact that yours is not, says someone who initially installed the system on your Mac did you a disservice.   Regardless, you should backup your data before you upgrade.  GUID formatted drives generally are not compatible with iBooks (pre-2006 consumer notebooks by Apple) Powerbooks, and PowerMacs, and iMac G5s.    So if you indeed have machine with the MacBook name on the screen frame, it was not properly formatted from the beginning.

  • Language support for Hindi was there in previous version of Mozilla, but its missing in the latest version, whh? all the hindi websites are un-comprehencebile, I tried the OS but my OS does not have Hindi language in it.

I have tried doing it through OS but to no avail for it does not have the Hindi language in its list. But the older version of Mozilla did supported the Hindi language websites (and that was the only reason i used Mozilla.) .This version does not supports that version(

  • Under Snow Leopard I used a WD My World NAS to back up my Mac Pro (Mid 2010). When I upgraded to Lion I am unable to access the backup because the NAS does not yet support AFP. I have now bought a Time Capsule and want to transfer the old backup onto it.

Under Snow Leopard I used a WD My World NAS to back up my Mac Pro (Mid 2010). When I upgraded to Lion I am unable to access the backup because the NAS does not yet support AFP. I have now bought a Time Capsule and want to transfer the old backup onto it.
How can I recover the NAS back up to put on my new Time Machine.
Talking to Apple Support Adviser was a waste of time on case number 239647273
    Any thoughts or pointers?

Keep the old OS around and just kick the tires and test new OS. Apple has a history and habit of breaking support in things like this.
You can use TimeMachine as one level of backup, and even there there were changes with Lion, I would always recommend foremost backup clones of every volume. And clone (SuperDuper etc) can be stored on something like HP NAS Media Server which also was supporting TimeMachine, iTunes - until Apple made that harder and more their own proprietary format.

    Cloning as a Backup Strategy
Rather than "upgrade" I would clone the system, and do a clean install, then allow Setup Assistant to import your files.

  • My new macbook pro (Mountain Lion) will not log into my 1and1 server to connect to my e mail. My snow leopard macbook does not have this problem - Apple support say it is a 1and1 problem! do I have to wait for an update of Mountain Lion?

My new macbook pro (Mountain Lion 10.8.1) will not log into my 1and1 outgoing mail server. ( It will receive mail - but does not send)My old Snow Leopard macbook does not have the same problem ( server settings etc. are identical) . Apple Support say its a 1and1 problem , 1and1 say it is an operating System prob - I have tried changing port numbers.

My eyes just glazed over...Please in the future break down each of your issues with paragraphs separated by two carriage returns. It would be much easier when trying to address your issues.
Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.
Secondly, this is not the place to vent. If you have a complaint, there is:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    or http://www.apple.com/contact/
We are just end users here helping other end users.
Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.
    Good luck!

  • [BUG] Adobe Bridge does not support OSX 10.10's "Go Back" keyboard shortcut and does not have a custom one.

Adobe Bridge does not support OSX 10.10's "Go Back" keyboard shortcut which is `command + shift + [` and does not have a custom one.
I tried "delete" key which is backspace for Windows. It will do delete identical to "delete X" key (which is delete key for Windows).
Sidenote: `command + shift + \` is to go back in views (switch views), not folder structure.

Exactly where do you want to use a GO BACK "shortcut" in Bridge?  Maybe I don't even understand what you mean by Go Back.  Bridge is only a file browser, nothing more. It doesn't open, edit, manipulate or save files at all.
Are you simply referring to going back to view a folder that you viewed before?
Please don't take this a criticism.  As someone who will gladly pay money not to have to learn any shortcuts at all, I'm just puzzled and curious, that's all.

  • HT201740 My preview does not have the tool bar described in the support page

I am on Yosemite 10.10.2. My preview does not have the tool bar described in this support document:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201740
Software Update says my system is up to date. How do I get the latest Preview described here? If I could get the features described on this support page, it would be awesome.
I have been struggling with the Preview that came with Yosemite. When I add text it is always justified and I can't change any style properties. Preview always opens without thumbnails, but I want thumbnails.

Barney-15E, thanks for pointing out the A icon to change the style of text that I create. I overlooked that completely.
Eric Root, what I meant was that I want preview to always open in Thumbnail mode. But I think I figured that one out. There is a Preview Preference tab for PDF which has an option of "Always show sidebar" when Opening for the first time.
It was helpful but perplexing to know from Barney-15E that Preview support docs are not up to date. Except, I never saw such features in Preview, so maybe that doc is a description of things to come?
While googling around, I also found many people had the same complaint I do about another feature: the Text box always positions in the middle of the page, rather than where you first click on the document. Apparently I'm not the only one who found Preview really lacking with the Yosemite release. Someone even figured out how to install the prior Preview 7.0 version...
    Thanks for your help!

  • How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my bush LCD32TV022HD which does not have an HDMI port but does have 1)S-Video I/P, 2)Video I/P, 3) L

How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my BUSH LCD32TV022HD
This does not have an HDMI port but does have:-
    1) S-Video I/P,
    2) Video I/P,
    3) Audio Input (Left & Right)
    4) Audio In jack (for VGA and DVI source)
    5) DVI input
    6) VGA input

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The Apple TV doesn't officially support a DVI connection, however you may be able to get it to work. You will first need to check that your TV supports either 720p or 1080p as well as HDCP. If you are able to get the video working over the DVI connection, you may also require a DAC in order to connect with Apple TV's optical audio output to the TVs audio imput.
You may well wish to make sure that the DVI connection works before spending any money on a DAC..
