Macintosh HD icon gone, did 10.5.2 correct this problem?
So i have been involved in this particular discussion for a while, I believe its the invisibles issue ("v" to "V") that has made my Macintosh HD icon on my desktop disappear. Did 10.5.2 correct this??
Afraid that thread was locked before I figured out an answer to the problem in Leopard involving the Spotlight issue, so I was unable to add my findings. So far the answer has worked for everyone who has tried it, and I have amended my article on invisiblity with the new information:

Scroll down to the section on the problem in Leopard. You'll need to clear the Spotlight comment and also run the "xattr" command given.
The root cause of the problem appears to still be unknown. Since the bug has been around since Tiger I doubt there will be a solution any time soon. At least the Leopard only version of the bug is reproducible, so maybe that will give the engineers the ability to finally track down the source.

This issue is with Netflix upgrade. I spoke to Netflix and here is the solution. Remove Netflix app from Ipad and reload the app version 5.0.1. This updated version will correct the problem.

i have connected my macbook pro to my tv via MDP to HDMI port cable, all that is showing up is the basic desktop image without any icons, what do i do to correct this
Your MBP is running in "extended desktop" mode, where the two screens together make one larger area to display windows. You can drag one or more windows from the primary (internal) screen to the secondary (TV) screen. By default, the secondary screen is off to the right of the primary screen.
If you would prefer the two screens show the same image, you want to switch to "mirroring" mode. You will have to pick a single resolution for both screens, which may look poor on one or the other.
Both the relative positions of the two screens in extended desktop mode and the switch to mirroring mode can be set in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement. -
Volume icon is disfigured. Any solutions to this problem?
I logged into my macbook pro like I do everyday and when I clicked on the volume key the volume icon appeared to have weird lines on both the top and the bottom. It has happened to one of my friends a few months ago and she never knew how to fix it and when the same thing happened to me today, I had to find solutions to this problem. I have not found any solutions to this problem whatsoever. Please help me fix this as I do not have an apple store nearby and I have been searching around the internet all day. Thanks!

Has anyone come up with an answer to resolve this? I'm tired of running that Apple Script that sets the Macintosh HD Volume to 'Visible.'
What happened? What made the Volume disappear?If you have used Get Info on the drive and added a Spotlight comment, then, after a Spotlight Index the drive icon will be hidden.
You can determine if you have that problem by doing the unhidden to show the icon then to enter
ls -al@ /Volumes/clintbackup
If from the results you see a "com.apple.metadata:kMDItemFinderComment" then you have the Spotlight comment problem.
If you have that problem you can type the following
cd /Volumes/the name of your drive
xattr -d com.apple.metadata:kMDItemFinderComment .
Note the space and the . at the end of the last line - they are needed. -

after updating from beta 9, to 10, to11, my desktop icon still says beta 9. The start menue has beta 10, and will not allow me to select open file location, which when accessing through programs(x86) is listed as beta 9. When checking uninstall programs, beta 11, is listed.

I did un-install and then re-install per the Adobe recommendations which are what you listed in your reply. The problem remained until I did a MS Windows restore to a restore point a month or so ago. The IE problems vanished. However, now I'm using an outdated and unsupported version that is lower than most of the web pages require for their sites, at least the ones I want to view (they all say I need to upgrade my Flash Player which, when I did, put me in this fix).

i updated firefox to the newest version,now my login and home button does not work,also my refresh button dissapeared. I play alot of games and need those buttons to switch back and forth to other games. THANKS
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.

To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

I keep having to go back to 11. Supposedly 12 was to be faster. Instead it takes minuets to load every website. I have tried several betas of 13 with the same problem.
Did you try a new profile for the Firefox 13 version?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

I can not update/download an app from app store by using my iphone 4s. I try every method by re-setting date/time and reboot the phone etc.NO Help.

Copy and paste this little script in your terminal:

A return of "i am local" ensures there is no remote connection to your machine (through SSH).
In the future, to avoid remote entry, I would recommend not posting your IP address though. -
Can't restore, can't power off, and pc can't detect iPad. Error code 3014 when trying to upgrade. Can't even restore to original settings. Opened Hosts files and I did not see 127....gs.apple.com, or other suggested files. Pls help.
Did you see the very end of this about not having enough space left on your computer specific to therror code 3014?
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.
Error 3002: If you experience this error while updating an iPod touch (2nd generation) or iPhone 3G, please use the standard update or restore process in iTunes (click Update or Restore).
Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again. -
When I make a document and add an image and send it to a PC as .rtfd the image and the format changes and disappears. But if I send from PC to PC an .rtfd file it comes out normal. I already downloaded the Quick Word App hoping that would solve the issue but it doesn't! What can I do to share files from PC to Mac and from Mac to PC without having the file change?
So now that's two of us. Hopefully, someone has an answer.
