Macintosh HD icon/prompt when booting - Why that?
I have updated to 10.4.7 a few days. My mbp has run fine until today, when i have turned on my MBP and i was prompted the Macintosh HD icon, with a small arrow underneath.
Clicking on either (icon / arrow) would not result in anything, but pressing enter MBP would start booting as normal.
It never did so before, so I am wondering whether I should be worried about it.
Any idea?

Mac OS X 10.4.7 icon is selected.

Getting a "key" prompt when booting up in single user mode!!
I bought my used macbook pro about a week ago without the original cd's and manuals. I installed the boot camp package but rebooted without creating the drivers disk to do this later. When my macbook boots up now it passes the apple icon with the twirling round arrow, then it stays at the Mac OS X box forever. How do I fix this without the tiger CD.
I have tried booting up in single user mode and it takes me to a "key" prompt. Anything i type does not come up. I read the troubleshooting and it sayd that it should through me to a # sign instead so i can perform a "fsck --y" funtion.
Please help restore my Macbook!!
CMI waited 15min at the key prompt when booting in single user mode and it unlocked the command prompt.
I guess it's some sort of security feature for the root. -
My Macintosh HD Icon has disappeared in the Finder window
I cannot find my Macintosh HD Icon. When I do a search in spotlight, it locates it in the computer Icon folder but when I go to that folder, it isn't there. Does anyone have the same problem?
Sounds like you have the invisible problem. Go to the thread roam mentions and scroll down past the real technical post of using the Terminal to fix it, you'll see a later post about using an Applescript to fix the problem. This may be easier for you to do. You'll want the script for fixing the drive problem, I also added a later post with a fix for invisible folders.

How to use Photoshop CS6 when booted from a different partition?
I have CS6 installed. I recently created a second partition on my SSD for development in OS X 10.10. When booted from that drive, I get an error that CS6 was not properly installed and to re-install it.
This is a smaller partition, with just the system and a few development apps, and I'd prefer to continue to run my larger apps from the original, larger partition.
Of course, every app I have tried does this with no issues except CS6. I usually need to re-enter app serials, but they work.
What files need to be copied from one partition to the other to let the app boot up?They work fine. I first tried with a clone of my main drive doing an update in place on it.
i guess I will need to boot into 10.9 to use them.
I will mostly use stand-in apps like Pixelmator. -
When I boot up iMac, the fan goes crazy. After a moment it stops and is quiet again. I unplugged my power and plugged it in again but that does't work. I tried to start AHT by holding D when booting, but that didn't work. I didn't get any discs when I bought my Mac so I can't run AHT using the disc. How can this be fixed?

When I open my internet and got to say the Macy's website and try to bring up all pages in the handbags dept, the screen goes black and it returns to the screen that has all my icons on it. Why?

Try a reset:
Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost. -
Why am I prompted for login, only when booting up?

I've set a login for my MBP, but have noticed that I'm not prompted to login when restarting. Only when returning from sleep or booting up fresh.
I've reviewed the Security settings but everything "seems" correct. I'm supposed to be prompted when returning from sleep and after the screen saver is activated.
Not sure what else to check to insure this after a restart.
Thanks for any help.This is actually an Account setting... not a security setting. Open System Preferences and then Accounts. On the bottom left, select Login Options. Automatic Login is probably checked (it usually is by default). Just unselect it. If it is grayed out, you'll need to click the little lock on the bottom of the window to unlock the preference.

Just installed windows 7 Ultimate using Boot Camp. Problem is when I choose to boot the windows partition, I get the windows icon on the screen showing that it is starting, but few second after, I get a blank screen. I suspect a driver (screen) issue, since I also installed Parallell using the boot camp partition and that works fine.
Do anybody out there has an ideal of what to do to solve this issue.

I got a new Macbook Pro and a Superdrive when i put in a DVD it reads it and puts a dick icon with the DVD name when i open that i have the auido and video folders but cant play the DVD anyone know why.

Why won't my Intel iMac boot up, either from the internal hard drive or the DVD drive? It just displays a light grey screen, without any other icons, etc. The fact that it won't boot from the original system DVD is what baffles me the most. Any ideas? It uses the latest version of Mavericks. Thanks!
If the C key for Install Disc or R Command for OS X Recovery startup commands are not working, try holding the Option key for the Startup Manager.

If that does not work and you using a wireless keyboard, it may have become unpaired and you need to dig up a USB keyboard to invoke the startup commands.

my computer updated to firefox 9. update was ok, but now when i click on the "home" icon, i get an alert that the url is not valid and cannot be loaded. everything is good to go as far as web surfing and so forth, but i want the firefox start page as my home page. also the private browsing option won't work because of the invalid url.

What URL do you have bookmarked as your home page? You might want to look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]]. There are steps in there to restore the home page to default. I would try that first to see if it clears up any strangeness. If that works, you can set the home page to anything you like.

My Mac HD doesn't start up, I get the reinstall prompt and do not see a macintosh HD icon while starting up using option key.
When start up I land into the Mac OSX Installer. Has my LION crashed or the HD is not responding?Try booting while holding down the Option key but make sure there aren't any disks in the optical drive first.

I recently updated to Firefox 3.6.17. Afterward I closed Firefox and when I tried to open it again I got the "Firefox is already running, restart your computer to open" message. So I restarted and when I tried to open Firefox I got the UAC "permission to make changes to this computer" message with the shield and I clicked yes. when I tried again Firefox came up and when it did my home (the house) icon was yellow instead of its ordinary blue, Now whenever I close Firefox I then always get the "permission to make changes to this computer" with the shield message whenever I try to open Firefox again. Why and how do I stop that from happening? And why is the home (the house) icon yellow now? Is that normal?
Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.<br />
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".<br />
In the Compatibility tab, make sure that Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" is not selected.<br />
Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.<br /> -
I deleted the playlists on my iPhone and when I now try to synchronize with my iTunes account to put the music back, nothing happens and I do not get the music back on my iPhone. Anyone who knows why that could be? Grateful for any suggestions!
I know it sounds weird, and that is the reason I posted my question. Because my case is not like all the ones I've found online and it's confusing. I added a screen capture of my itunes with my old iphone (the one that houses my playlists) connected to it.
My playlists "ARE" in my iphone 4s. They are still there even though they do not show up when I plug in to itunes in my computer.
When connecting my phone to itunes on my macbook, the playlists do not appear anywhere in itunes. I have found my connected iphone icon, I have clicked on the arrow next to it and it does pull up the standard lists that come with the iphone/itunes: Music, Movies, TV shows, books. That's it! below that is "Genius" and below "Geniuns" is "PLAYLISTS" but the only playlist of mine that shows there is one that I created several years back titled "90's music" and that one I created it on my computer, not my phone. Under "90's music" there are also other standard playlists that itunes automatically adds.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to get around this. I am starting to think that I am going to have to recreate these lists on my computer -

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

Iphone 4 camera roll reverting to old photos
