MACINTOSH HD is missing...??

hey all,
have a weird dilemma... trying to reconnect media...but no file path exists...is states Macintosh HD is missing when i try to reconnect...but its there...
sorry to be vague... any help...

Are you only using the 'Search' fuction in the reconnect window, or have you tried the 'Locate' function as well?
Is this happening when the project boots up? Have you tried bypassing the initial reconnect, then selecting clips in the browser or timeline and tried to reconnect from there?
Have you tried opening an Autosave version of the project (if it's available)? If you don't have it, ask the other person if they have any autosaves you could try.
Do you know how the media was acquired, what format it's supposed to be and if it was given proper Reel and Description info? That may be critical in that, certain types of media/acquisition processes may simply name stuff as Untitled01, Untitled02...etc.
Do you see anything in the reconnect box, like "" or any file names at all?
Still need more info to assist.

  • Macintosh HD icon missing / not showing up on desktop

Suddenly my boot drive HD (Macintosh HD) icon is missing. In Volumes I can find an alias of my HD but not on my desktop.
I switched the option for "show HD icons on desktop" off and on in Finder options but boot drive not visible while other volumes visibility is switching fine off and on.
I repaired disk permissions but no change.
    Thanks for hints.

  • 'Macintosh HD' missing from Disc Utility

Have 2013 MacBook Pro. Had some minor issues, so checked disc utility. Told to reinstall OS X, as the directories weren't reparable. Tried reinstalling via disc that came with the computer, but could never get back to desktop screen. Tried one last time and the 'Macintosh HD' was missing from Disc Utility screen. Called Apple who said the HD might need to be replaced, which is really unacceptable after 2 years of light use. Ran Apple Diagnostics on Hardware, came back 'no problems found." Two questions: can I get back to HD and how do I get from the reinstallation to desktop?  Thanks!!

Boot the MBP with the OPTION + COMMAND + R keys.
If successful, you should see a revolving globe.
This will connect you to the Apple servers.
Follow the instructions and you should see a 4 option menu.
Select Disk Utility and then First Aid.  Run Verify and Repair.
Then you can select the OSX reinstall option.  It will reinstall the original OSX that the MBP came with.
If no success, then the best option is an Apple store genius bar appointment.  The evaluation will be FREE.
    Ciao.

  • Elements missing from fce

    Hi:
My problem began yesterday; and still continues.
When I open FCE, the canvas and timeline are missing. And the tools and audio features are strung haphazardly here and there. I've reinstalled FCE from my disk; but no go.
In the "settings" menu, it tells me (under "external editors") that the Macintosh HD is missing; also, my name file is missing.
I am a freshly-made FCE user; and I'm lost. Totally lost. ANY help would be tremendous!

There should be a sequence icon in the browser, icon with two horizontal yellow bars. Double click on it to open the timeline window and canvas. If there is no sequence in the browser make a new one with Cmd-N. To reset your windows to the default location press Control-U.

  • Volumes Greyed out in disk utility

tried to do averify and repair disk when it finished the volumes/partitions are greyed out

Where are you running Disk Utility from - the boot
    system, or an installation disk?
from the actual system yea, I understand about thenot being able to unmount a volume you are on but the disks that were doing it were not the system disk so I was able to do repair and verify disk to mount/unmount, they would go through fine but the volume would stay greyed out not the actual disk itself. One is a int HD the other was a ext FW 400 drive. I have haad a lot fo problems laltely so if you want to read all the thiings that have happened here they are. OH thanks so much for your help
OK before I forget the way all this happened I will write it all down so here it is.
I was trying to hook up a ethernet conn to a muse receptor (music gear)I realized after I wasnt successful setting it up that my main Macintosh HD was missing from the desktop , When I would do a search I would see it and could acess it but it was greyed out. I did repair perm it was ok. I tried moving it to the sidebar ,no luck. I then installed a OS x on an ext HD and repaired and verified the disc that way to unount and remount all was good. WEnt back to real Os ,still not there. Then SOmeone in an email said to run a apple script
    "System Events"
set visible of (choose folder with invisibles) to false
end tell when I did I then realized that now my other HD is missing from my desktop and I also accidentally made it go poof from the side bar too. now if I go to finder and try to hit show HD nothing happened.
    SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!
More info if I do command shift G for , /Volumes/Macintosh HD/ it goes to a shortcut for it and if I do it for the Audi HD I get a short cut to it but this time it is a network shortcut icon
Also My iDisk which I never use is stuck on my desktop and cant get rid of it
I think what happened is maybe I got my user and my main hard drive volume switched up cause if I look into that Macintosh HD and go to users/myname/desktop it looks the same as my current desktop
    OBviously these are all guesses
    Update
Now when I hit the audio shortcut Icon it says it cant be found and to insert the disk or connect to the sever volume and wait for it to appear on the desktop

  • How to recover data lost with Boot Camp

I was removing my boot camp partition when in the middle of it boot camp crashed. I went back into boot camp to check if the option to uninstall windows was still there, but it wasn't. I went to about this mac etc. and the storage didn't show my windows 7 partition but the data from the windows 7 partition was gone and My macintosh HD was missing the storage. Any Ideas on how to fix it? Sorry if my question doesn't make sense.

I guess everyone has their own idea of what is easy. A backup, reformat, restore to me is an utter PITA. Once you have free space, that free space is still not usable by Mac OS. You have to expand the Mac OS volume to use it. Sometimes this can fail because of the weird way Apple has chosen to sequence the partitions, with the Recovery HD Partition located after the Mac OS partition, making Recovery HD in between Mac OS and Free space. Apple's diskutil resizevolume command will move Recovery HD around as part of a resize. The basic command is:
    diskutil resizevolume /dev/disk0s2 limits
That will show minimum, current and maximum resize limits. If current doesn't equal maximum, then free space has not been incorporated into the Mac OS volume. You can sometimes fix this with:
    diskutil resizevolume /dev/disk0s2 R
That will expand the Mac OS volume to maximum size. If it fails then it's worth reconstructing the HFS+ catalog with:
    fsck_hfs -r /dev/disk0s2
That command requires the file system be unmounted so you'll need to boot off another volume - Recovery HD is fine.
All of these are commands leverage features which the GUI doesn't offer access to.

  • Macintosh HD desktop logo missing

    Hi
I visited the genius bar this morning re a problem file on my new Mac Pro running 10.9.3
I was was told to create a new user with admin privileges and then use migration assistant to bring in all the files from Time Machine apart from the system files
I created a new user with admin privileges ok but when I logged onto this I found the Macintosh HD logo is missing from the desktop and when I try using Finder it can't locate migration assistant
Anyone have any suggestions as to what is wrong?
The old accounts have the logo in place (there were migrated from Time Machine a few days ago)
    Thanks

    1. Choose Preferences from the Finder menu, click on the General tab, and check the box for hard disks.
    2. Choose Utilities from the Finder's Go menu and open the Migration Assistant.

  • How do I resolve 43+ GB of missing storage on the Macintosh HD?

I seemed  to be running out of space on my MacBook AIR, so I used Get Info to retrieve Size data for the HD and main folders.
    Macintosh HD shows:
         Capacity:  120.15 GB
         Available    12.03 GB
         Users              46.14 GB
         System             5.57 GB
         Library              6.74  GB
         Applications      6.45  GB
         Total Used      64.90  GB
    120.15 - 64.90 = 55.25 -12.03 = 43.22 GB
So more than 43 GB of space is lost/missing!
    How could this happen?
How do I recover the lost/missing space?
    - Tom

Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.
First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Macintosh HD Library did not migrate. What else is missing?

I recently migrated to a new (identical) MBP Retina with the same OS 10.9.3 and chose to migrate everything. When I compared the two computers, I noticed the new one had about 30 GIG less than the old one. I went through with a fine toothed comb and noticed that the additional content I had downloaded for Logic Pro X which is located in Macintosh HD>Library>Audio had not transferred. Then I noticed that a lot of other data within the Library had not been transferred either. How did this happen and what else might be missing? How can I be sure I have everything I need? I thought ticking all the boxes in the migration meant that everything would be  transferred.

Migration Assistant occasionally has oops. Try running it again.
Old post, but in this one Apple Support told the OP to run it several times.
    Migration Assistant takes several tries?

  • "Users" folder missing on Macintosh HD

    Hello.
I've just updated my MacBook Pro to Mavericks 10.9.3 and iTunes to 11.2. Now my "users" folder is missing when I open my Macintosh HD. I need this folder for some Apps, so I created a temporary folder on my Macintosh HD to recieve some files and then I move them to the right folder. But I want "users" folder back again. I saw an old post about this issue, but it's too old and it's not working for me.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks.

it's not only a bug (or someting the like) appearing in 10.9.3
in my case it began in 10.9.2, I tried to correct this updatong to 10.9.3, but no help
and neither correcting it with [sudo chflags nohidden /Users] nor starting a session as root lets the bug definitively be corrected.... with next restart /Users returns to invisibility
curiously the home folder is accesible thru command or the finder preferences of window's side bar
but the 'Guest' or 'Shared' folders are also not accesible if /Users is invisible (sauf with the trick of accesing home folder and then command arrow up)
I really think it's a bug, and will be corrected (but when?)

  • Applications folder missing from Macintosh HD in Finder

The "Applications" folder disappeared from my "Macintosh HD" finder window a few days ago and I have found no way to restore it. I can access "Applications" from the Finder sidebar and it the "Applications" folder displays in the Path Bar but not in the "Macintosh HD" finder window. Time Machine displays the "Application" folder in the "Macintosh HD" finder window as it last appeared a few days ago but I can not restore it using Time Machine. I get a message that "Applications" is part of the system and cannot be changed. I find nothing in finder preferences to restore the folder. Any suggestions?

Take a look at this Apple Knowledge Base article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307033
The command should work for the Applications folder as well, you would just need to replace the "~/" path with "/Applications"--you may run into a permissions problem, so you would have to run the command as the super user. If that is the case, the command would look like this:
    sudo chflags nohidden /Applications
Hit return, you'll be asked for your password, type it carefully as it is not echoed to the screen in any way whatsoever, hit return again. You'll get a little lecture about sudo.

  • Has anyone else's 'Macintosh HD' folder disappeared after installing Mavericks? OR have I missed a trick somewhere?

I've just downloaded Mavericks, and the Macintosh HD folder seems to have vanished.  Has this happened to anyone else? Was this a planned change from Apple? Has it just be relocated somewhere else?

    Disapeared from where?
If the Desktop, then Finder->Preferences->General and check the box: Hard Disks
