Macintosh IIsi won't output video

I recently got my hands on a Macintosh IIsi that refuses to boot, I get the startup tone, the hard drive spins, and the indecator lights light up but it won't output video. I have tried multiple monitors and different display adapters without success. I want to know what the next step to fixing it

zmclearan,
Are you using a PC monitor and adapters or do you have access to an original Mac monitor?  When you say that it refuses to boot, is it just that you can not see the startup screen?  How long does the hard drive noise last?
The next step is the process of elimination.  Check the PRAM battery first.  A dead battery will affect the video circuit in many machines.  Look online for batteries with free shipping.  If you go to Radio Shack, they will have replacement batteries that cost more than the computer.
A way to avoid buying a battery is to do what is called a "warm boot."  You start the computer, listen for the chime, give it ten seconds, then hold down the command key + control key + the soft power key (the key at the top right hand of the keyboard or top center on some smaller keyboards).  If you hear the chime again then it restarted.  This gives the computer a fresh start with power supplied by the wall power and not the battery power.  For newer computers, you turn the computer on at the power button, turn it off and back on immediately.  That will wake up the video circuit on a Quadra 605 or a 6100 PPC.  I do not remember ever needing to do that on an 030 processor computer so the on-off-on trick may only be for the power supplies in the 605 form factor.
If you can find a PDS to NUBUS adapter you could test to see if the onboard video is bad by using a NUBUS video card.  The IIsi uses built in RAM so it will not be a video RAM problem.  How much RAM do you have?  The chime means that you have some form of RAM.  Incommpatible RAM or no RAM will result in a sad musical sound.
Your best alternative for testing older computers is to find a Mac user group in your area.  Someone will have spare parts, monitors and other resources.  Your video adapter may not be properly configured and the easiest way to test that is on another machine that you know works with your monitor.  Unfortunately, buying the battery is just a gamble.  It that does not fix it, you have just spent good money on a bad motherboard problem.  Post back with the name of a city near you and maybe we can find a user group to help out with parts.

  • My FCE won't output video

My FCE just recently started to do this. I have my system running through a midi interface which is connected to montiors (speakers) in my studio. Now I can't get my FCE audio to come out of my speakers. I can hear evertyhing wlse including itunes and the bleeps when I raise and lower the volume on my Mac. As of right now the audio is going to my DV camcorder which is connected to my TV monitor. I can hear the sound through the TV but when I try to switch it to "Canvas playback" it won't switch over though it says is has? Help!!!

    What happens when you try?

  • DSR-45 won't output Video to FCP 4.5

Video shows on the deck but not on the FCP/capture window. Time code runs and deck control works fine. We have uninstalled and reinstalled everything with no changes. 4.5 used to work until an attempt to upgrade to 5.1, which didn't work at all. We trashed all Preferences and remnants of 5.1 Thanks in advance for any help!!
    G5 1.8 DP   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Just for grins, try to capture a short clip in iMovie.
If that works it would appear you have a slightly bunged QT install. Often in upgrading the OS, QT or FCP for some odd reason QT will get knocked slightly off kilter. The usual solution it to force a full reinstall of QT.
    This is how:
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
    Good luck.

  • Mid-2011 Mac Mini won't output 2560 x 1600 to my Dell U3014

    Hi,
I recently purchased a Dell U3014 30" monitor. I've been using it with my PC via Dual-Link DVI without a hitch.
I decided to plug my mid-2011 Mac Mini into it using a MiniDisplayPort-to-DisplayPort cable. My mac recognises the monitor, but won't output at 2560 x 1600, the monitor says it isn't receiving a signal.
If I change the display settings to 1080p the monitor comes to life.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Why Can't Camera Work with Windows Messenger for Mac and give output video?

I can see from the other end, but my camera won't come on so they can't see me. I hear them and can type in Messenger, but I'd like to have 2-way video, not just receive.
My camera works as I use it in Photo Booth, so that's not the problem. I can't find a way to setup the video within Messenger. Don't know if it's problem with Messenger or Leopard.
Whatever it is, it's very annoying that I can't output video.
Anyone with similar problem or have the answer? I'd be forever grateful!
    junroe

Microsoft Messenger doesn't have video support on the Mac version. If you want crossplatform videochat, ask your friends to join AOL Instant Messenger. You can get video chat crossplatform between AOL Instant Messenger for PC & Apple's iChat which supports AOL Instant Messenger screen names. Skype is crossplatform too. An open source program called ophonex supports Microsoft Messenger's Netmeeting protocol for video chat as well. IRC is also crossplatform in videochat though its setup is a bit more complicated with the software known as Ircle for the Mac.

  • ["SOLVED"] PulseAudio - some applications won't output sound sometimes

So, I have KDE 4 and PulseAudio installed, with VLC as Phonon's backend software.
After startup, I often find that Skype won't output sound at all for seemingly random periods of time. This also often happens (sometimes simultaneously, but not necessarily) to Chromium. Pavucontrol and the KDE audio mixer, don't show anything useful at all in terms of the output of Skype and Chromium, and messing with master output in Pavucontrol doesn't affect anything.
After a completely random period of time (usually a very long period of time), these applications start outputting sound again. It's very frustrating, and restarting the applications doesn't help whatsoever. While these two applications are affected, all other applications output sound perfectly.
I don't even know. I've searched, but I haven't found any similar problems documented elsewhere. Any advice?
    EDIT: Solved, for now.

I fixed it (for now, at least!)
    I ran the below command:
    $ cat /proc/asound/cards
    0 [U0x46d0x804 ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x804
USB Device 0x46d:0x804 at usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.2, high speed
    1 [MID ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel MID
HDA Intel MID at 0xf9ff8000 irq 47
    2 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfbd7c000 irq 17
Basically, my USB webcam, which also acts as a microphone, was being treated as my default sound card. I changed this by creating a file in /etc/modprobe.d with the following:
    options snd-hda-intel index=0
Which set my real sound card as default:
    $ cat /proc/asound/cards
    0 [MID ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel MID
HDA Intel MID at 0xf9ff8000 irq 47
    1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfbd7c000 irq 17
    2 [U0x46d0x804 ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x804
USB Device 0x46d:0x804 at usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.2, high speed
The problem isn't ENTIRELY fixed. Skype's still being a bit buggy, but at least Chromium is now playing sound, including in Flash media. Strangely enough, after playing a Flash video (e.g. on YouTube), Skype's sound seems to fix itself if it's defunct.

  • Macintosh iisi

hello there, I have bought a Macintosh IIsi and when I set it up and turn it on t it chimes and the hard drive spins but nothing appears on the screen. is there a solution to this problem. is cleaning the board with q-tips going to help.

The first thing to do after purchasing an old Mac is to replace the internal battery on the motherboard (3.6-volt, ½AA lithium). When the computer sits disconnected from electricity for an extended period, the battery will drain down completely. A dead battery often causes a "no video" symptom at startup. As for using Q-Tips on the motherboard, you'd want them to be dampened with alcohol to prevent any static charge from occuring. I'd first try a can of compressed air to blow away most of the dust, but I've run into many situations when air doesn't clean the PCB. With Q-Tips, remember that fuzz will pull off of them, when they come in contact with any sharp edges of motherboard components.

My .MP4 video file won't "play video full screen" in Muse after I publish my .OAM out of Edge Animate.  When I "Preview In Browser" through Edge it plays (I have created a shape and used the "play video full screen" snippet)  in full screen mode just fine.  When I "Preview Site In Browser" through Muse and click on the shape to PLAY VIDEO FULL SCREEN, it does nothing.  I am new to both programs and can't figure out why it will work out of the preview window in Edge and won't work when I publish to Muse.  Does anybody have an answer or a work-around for me?

  • HELP about analog output video

Hello, I´m need help about analog output video in Premiere CS5 using Matrox RTX2. I need to crop a video with resolution in 1440x1080 to 4:3 in output analog. But what happens is wrong (I think). My video is in format anamorphic and the other option is 16:9 letterbox. Is there any way to crop the video without using effects. Thanks a Lot and sorry my bad english (my native language is Portuguese).

There are no 4:3 HD specifications.  You'll have to put the video into a normal SD sequence, and scale it down till the top and bottom of the video meet the frame.  That way the sides will be cut off.

  • HT4108 I have a projector and I want to show output video all the time, but I can only get it to work on safari

I have a projector and I was looking for an app that would allow output video all the time

The one you are looking at I believe is an older model and does not have very good reviews for working with an AppleTV2 / iPad 2 setup.
Here is the one that has worked for our district:
    http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Component-Converter-Support-Surround/dp/B004F9XVBC/ ref=pd_cp_e_2
I can't say if the one you are referring two works or not, however I can say that based on the reviews, it looks like you may run into problems with the $45 version.

  • Output video played on MacPro to an HDTV?

I am asking this on behalf of a friend who has an old MacPro  .  .  .  it's Intel and he believes it's version 1.1 but can't be sure.
He wants to output video to a flat screen TV.
Unfortunately, unlike cheap PCs, Macs don't have HDMI sockets which would make the process simple.
Is there a socket on his MacPro that could be used, possibly with some sort of adapter, to enable it to connect to the HDMI or Scart socket of the TV?

Many HDTVs have DVI inputs, verify that the TV doesn't have one first. Otherwise you need a DVI to HDMI cable. You may also need to use SwitchResX if the HDTV doesn't send the correct resolution settings back thru the cable.

  • Output Video Playback Help

    Hello Again,
I first wanted to thank those who helped with my initial issue. I went through the 16 steps and was able to fix the blue hue over my output video. Now I have an issue where when I go to playback in the output video, it is very choppy or the video does not move at all and all you hear is the audio. Please help if you can. Thank-You
    Jeff

If you were sitting down at your computer and you added 3 clips to your timeline, went to play them back, and the video was choppy and lagging. What would you do in the program to fix that problem.
Assuming the use of DV media on internal hard drives specific to that purpose, I'd reboot.
If that didn't clear it up, I'd check my hard drives for fragmentation.
If that didn't work, I'd check other clips for comparison.
If that didn't work, I'd try a different project as a test, as well as various media players to see how well they handled playback.
If that didn't work, I'd try the same clips on another computer.
If that didn't work, then chances are I violated item one by not using DV media.
