Macintosh- opens all pdf files on my computer at once?

Everything freezes and it won't me shut it down and close any windows. I then have to do a "force close"
This is the alert it tells me
"There was an error opening this document. The maximum number of files are already open. No other files can be opened or printed until some are closed"

Please help!  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I have Acrobat 8 Pro and 9 Pro on this
iMac.  The verison 9 is having this issue.  8 works fine.  I had no issues with either version until about two weeks ago.
Thanks in advance!

  • Can not open all .pdf files in Yahoo Mail.

Three computers using Windows XP and Internet Explorer can open all .pdf files in Yahoo
Mail. The fourth and newest Computer with XP Pro, Internet Explorer, and the latest Adobe
Reader can only open some, but not all, .pdf files in Yahoo Mail. Nothing happens when
the window is clicked to open file. How can this be fixed?

Adobe Reader isn't my favorite, but neither are smug and uninformed assertions about Preview. There are PDFs that render only squares and marks under Preview (http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/24209/this-pdf-displays-with-question-m arks-instead-of-letters), which is a common problem in MS Windows Office generated PDFs, so you may actually need Adobe Reader for Mac.
If you need to use Adobe Reader (as I do), then it may depend on the filesystem type where you save your PDF.  For example, our Macs are network homed.  Saving to desktop produced the error reported above no matter whether I used Safari:Save As, or the PDF save icon.
However, when I saved to a local drive (such as /tmp), then it worked.  I don't know why file system makes a difference, unless Adobe is doing something with extended attributes that doesn't get written correctly to some filesystems.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cant open all pdf file in mozilla

hi.. can i know why i cant open ALL the pdf files on internet?? i can view pdf file in internet explorer, but not in mozilla.. my default internet browser is mozilla.. is there any things wrong with my adobe reader? when i try to open a pdf file, the browser go to a blank page with a 'done' at the bottom...
    i seriusly need assistance.. thx..

    hi DilbertG
    Thanks for the quick reply
I have the PDF file local and select it from the browse
    button.
    The path is absolute.
The address that IE shows is a MSN search for the PDF file
name - eg the file name is Students with learning difficulties.pdf
it goes to a MSN search and looks for Students with learning
    difficulties.pdf web pages.
I test this in preview and does the above mentioned.
Do I need to save the PDF in a different location so
    captivate can access it?
    Thanks for the help,
    Cheers

  • Problem opening all PDF files

I am suddenly unable to open any PDF file. I get the message that adobe reader has been forced to close. What could cause this. I have repaired the application and have also looked for updates. Says there are none.

What is your operating system & version?
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?

  • All PDF files on my computer open when I try to just open 1 of them with Acrobat Pro 9

Everytime I try to open a PDF in acrobat pro 9 several other PDF documents open as well (like every single one it can find on my computer). I do not have this problem if I open the file in acrobat 8 pro. Any ideas what I can do to fix this problem? Thanks.

Others have reported the problem. One or two people fixed the issue by closing each file. Then quit the program, then use either Applejack or Onyx to empty all the caches (System and User).

  • Why doesn't "Preview" open my .PDF files on my computer?

    Hello Guys,
My "Preview" program stopped opening .PDF files about a week ago. The program shows up in the dock, but it doesn't display the PDF. It displays JPEG's no problem, but for some reason it' doesnt open PDF fils.It is driving me crazy. I have googled and googled, but no luck in fixing my problem.
I have even set the PDF files to "always open with preview"
Any help would be greatly appreciatd
    Thanks in advance
    -Miguel

I suspect your problem has to do with the file on the drive that stores the preferences to open what up with what program.
I don't know exactly what that preference file is, but I know of a way to check for corruption of the preference files and once you know which one is corrupted, then we can delete it and it will rebuild.
So do the #12 and #13 OnyX routines here, that will also clear your caches and speed up your machine a little as well.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Once #13 is competed then see this Ut here.

  • I downloaded Redear to see if it could open an old .pdf file.  Now I cannot open any .pdf files.

What is wrong with Reader?  Having loaded it I now cannot open any .pdf file in my computer or on email.

I gave up loading then scouring out Adobe products each time it told me Flash Player was loaded but was nowhere to be found on my system.  I have now done what I expect is the intention in that I have downloaded the full Adobe trial pack, which they then expect me to purchase.
Cannot get over the impression that the fault is deliberate.  Building in the requirement for all users then loading a weak link, that drives you to purchase.
Shockwave is FREE... Flash Player is FREE.... Adobe Reader is FREE... Adobe AIR is FREE... Those four products are, and always have been, FREE... Flash Professional, which is for creating and editing Flash animation and video files, is a paid licensed product. Acrobat Professional, which is for creating and editing PDFs, is a paid licensed product. Neither Flash Player nor Adobe Reader have any links to prompt an upgrade to the professional version of software for the file format. Never have. Viewing Flash content and PDFs needs to be universally available to the public who receive such content over the Internet. Creating and editing Flash files and PDFs is not something that everyone needs, so it's only available at a cost for those who need it and choose to use Flash Pro or Acrobat.
There are Creative suites with several Adobe applications for everything from photo and graphic editing, to video editing, to making e-readers, to web design, but those are for developers of the individual media.

  • Bug in Preview in Snow Leopard when opening multiple pdf files at once

I receive 50-200 pdf files by e-mail each day. I have historically saved the pdf attachments to a folder, then selected all the pdf files in the folder (CMD A), then opened all the selected files in Preview (CMD O). After updating to Snow Leopard, downloading 34 pdf files to a folder, selecting them all, then attempting to open them all in Preview (using both CMD O, then File/Open, then File/Open With), the effort first opens 6 of the 34 files. Closing all then trying again results in 7 files being opened, closing all then trying again results in 8 files being opened, etc etc. Earlier today I had the same results, but eventually got a message asking if I wanted to open all in separate windows (I did) or a single window, and it opened all the files at once as I wanted. After shutting down, moving home, and receiving additional pdf files, however, back to the same open 5, then open 6, etc. problem. Anyone else having this problem or a suggestion on how to resolve?
    Thanks for suggestions,
    B

More info - apparently the bug isn't related to Preview, but to the attempt to open all pdf files in the folder with ANY program. After having Preview open 25 of the 34 files I was attempting to open, I then tried opening all 34 with Adobe Reader. It opened 26 (after Preview had opened 25). Tried again with Preview - it opened 27, then 28 with Adobe Reader. It doesn't necessarily open the FIRST 25 (or 26, etc) either, so it's difficult to work with the open ones, then go back and work with the remaining ones later.

  • Unable to open the pdf file

Hi...i am having adobe reader 9 as well as adobe acrobat professional 6 installed in my sytem. i want to open all pdf file should open with adobe reader 9 by default. please help how we can do this. Also i want to open the pdf file in adobe reader 9 during net surfing. please help. thanks in advance...

You need to let Windows know what is the default for opening PDFs. That can be done by right clicking on a PDF and selecting open with and selecting the open always option with Reader. However, if Acrobat is running in the background -- the default for Acrobat and Reader to leave part running, then your selection may be ignored. In that case, stop Acrobat.exe in the task list.

  • I did the Acrobat Standard subscription (one-year), and each time I try to open a PDF file, I get the "provide a serial number." What am I to do?

I did the subscription 3 days ago and got an order number confirmation...but I can't open any PDF files on my computer. If there is something I am supposed to download...I can't find the link anywhere.

Uninstall Reader. Use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Tool. They try re-installing Reader 9.2

  • HT1338 I cannot open any pdf files on my mac book air.  I used to be able to.  I downloaded osx mountain lion and it still doesn't work.  any suggestions?

I cannot open any pdf files on my mac book air.  I used to be able to open them.  It was suggested that I get OS Mountain Lion and I did.  still can't.  Any ideas?

You can download Adobe Reader from adobe.com.  The Mac OSX uses its "reader" to open PDF files without the Adobe Reader.  If you downloader adobe reader, it should open all PDF files.  Hope this helps.

  • Computer stall after openning a PDF file (Vista)

I am using Vista with a HP slimline computer. Sometimes, not always, when I open a PDF file my computer stalls. I must reboot to work again. Sometimes the PDF file is open but when I want to close the file with my mouse with red cross located at upper right then computer stalls. Pressing the ON/OFF button 4 seconds is the only solution at this time. CTRL-ALT-DEL is freezed, the clock is freezed, ALT-TAB is freezed, mouse too and keyboard too. It is a full freeze.
My computer got the latest vista SP1 and latest Acrobat Reader version (8.1.2).
Does somebody got the same experience and found a solution?

Hey thanx for the help, it worked like a charm.
I think firefox changed the application lay out, as I used to be able to choose my PDF opener from the list at " Adobe Acrobat Forms Document' where I could choose Nitro-PDF reader, but it has now moved all the way to the bottom like you suggested to the obvious place of "Portable Document Format" section.
If someone didn't tell me , I wouldn't have scrolled all the way down to be able to find it... it really should be with all its cousins up the top...
    Cheers again..

Do you have a link to that document?

  • Adobe Reader XI is not working. I have used the cleanup tool and reinstalled it. I try to open a .pdf file in the program the window will open and load all the tabs but I am never able to actually interact with them.

I am unable to use adobe reader xi. I have tried to use the clean up tool and re install the reader. That doesn't seem to help. I go to open the pdf file in the reader and the window will load but I am not able to do anything past that point. Almost as if the program freezes once loaded I never get a not responding error until I open the task manager on the computer.

Can you open Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
