Mack Book Pro black out

I have a Mac Book pro. Purchased in UK. Have had intermittent problems - auto reports sent back to Apple. Gone on for 2 years. Now packed in completely.
Authorised dealer now wants £600 odd to fix - not happy - I should have been fixed when under warranty...
But every time I was about to take my Mac in to be fixed (being without your Mac for a week is like having your arms chopped off) it would fix it self.
I 'm trying to contact someone at Apple to say their fees to fix are unrealistic...and can they help.
No contact email address. Hours to wait on phone. And no Genius appointments - unless I travel 2 hours!
Logic Board - £409.50
Battery - £174.74
Labour - £60
Total = £644.24
Can you help? Where do I direct my concerns??
Have purchased over 25 Mac's for my businesses over the years plus all my family use Apple products. Never any issues.
But this Mac Book Pro has had issues!!
Thanks
Peter

Here are some things you can try. Do you have a newer operating system? http://reinout.vanrees.org/weblog/2015/01/06/macbook-pro-black-screen.html If you can use the CommandR or Option R to go to recovery. You can use the disk utilities to check and repair the drive and permissions.

Hello, i have a Mack book pro 15" Lion OS X 10.7.4 it say's your startup disk is almost full.. how do i fix that?

You don't need to keep your mac 'clean' - it's not a Windows PC. It pretty much takes care of maintenance itself. All those warnings, errors, alerts, that programmes like MacKeeper give you are simply false. Many of the files it says you should remove, you SHOULDN'T.
Unless your mac is showing some kind of performance problem, leave the system alone. If it is showing some kind of performance problem, post in the relevant forum of this website to get help.
The worst thing you can do is download a 3rd party app that promises to solve things for you. 9 times out of 10 they just create more trouble than you had to start with.

how do i get my mac book pro to out of the box.  clear everything off it and start over

Boot with your original system installation DVD: with the disc in the drive, restart the MBP while holding the C key. From the Utilities menu, select Disk Utility. Erase the internal disk.
Quit Disk Utility and install OS X. Install the applications that came with the MBP from the Applications DVD.

  • I book G4 BLACKING OUT

i book G4 blacking out and haven't received my new battery yet. Discovered the recall only recently when we were trying to figure out why the computer is blacking out? Is this related to the old battery?
We also took the battery out and tried using the power cord. It still blacks out. We hear a fan if you hold down the power button and then hear a beep and computer starts up sometimes. Most of the times it's black or blacks out. We reset the PMU. That didn't work. We also had Apple care until Dec. 22 and they said they couldn't help us even though we have been trying to get in the store and no one is ever available to help us. We couldn't even get an appt. with Apple genius people...so busy!
    UGH!
    Please help.
    Thanks.

I think your logic board is dying too.
    Try the following:
apply presure on the bottom of your ibook on the spot
under the left ctrl/alt. Your ibook should now boot,
release presure when you see the apple logo...

Exactly the same thing is happening to mine, it blacks out at random, usually if it's moved slightly. Mine wasn't part of the battery recall though. Battery life is dropping alarmingly fast as well, I'm getting about an hour and a half out of it now. The only change I've made is to put in an airport card about 6 months ago but the problem only started in December

The screen on my Mac Book Pro goes out randomly when I touch my trackpad.  Every time the screen shuts off, I have to restart my computer so the screen will turn on again and it's driving me nuts.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and a solution?

You can blank the monitor using those keys, that's likely what you did, it's a feature.

  • My screen on my MacBook Pro blacks out constantly. If I press on the bottom left side of the MacBook, I can keep the screen on. I have been placing a small note pad to keep pressure on the bottom in order to keep the screen lit up.

You should try taking the battery out and putting it back in, but then if that doesn't work, you should take it into your Apple Retail Store and have a genius at the Genius Bar take a look. That seems like a hardware problem to me.

  • Mac Book Pro video out (no signal to tv)

My six month old Mac Book Pro has been working fine sending out a video and audio signal since day one. Two days ago I now get no video signal out of the same video adapter and I also don't get an audio signal out of the speakers nor out of the ear phone out port.
The computer and screen work fine
What can I do before I take it in to an Apple Genius for a probable logic board replacement?

      But mini-DVI?  The 5870 has a full-sized DVI port, not a mini-DVI port.
Nope, I believe that there are two mini-display-ports and a full-sized DVI port on the back of a ATI Radeon HD 5870 according to the Apple Store. What I meant was to get a DVI to VGA for £2.99 of eBay and see what you are doing wrong. This might show that one of your working monitors with Display Locations 1&2 on your 5870 does not work on Display Location 3 on the 5870 meaning you have a faulty connector or the entire 5870; hopefully not the latter.
If it the first, then it is fairly easy to replace the connector it is feasible. Even though there are quite a large amount of pins to solder; these parts are readily available. I have done this to one 5870 and two EVGA Nvidia GTX 460 SC cards after they were damaged due to a berk of a friend when he removed them from his gaming-PC.

  • Why is my pro blacking out and having trouble restarting itself?

For some odd reason, my pro which is only about a month old keeps blacking out. I already checked on the automated sleep and it is not that. The screen will just randomly turn black even when in use. I tried pressing buttons, esc, spacebar, and even turning it off. It also has issues turning off. When i finally get it to turn off and try to restart it, it lights up but then the CD drive makes a noise like theres a disc in it even though there is not. I tried ejecting it even though there is nothing in there and the screen goes black. I am at a loss as to what to do here. Please help! Thanks.

Take it to an Apple Store, it's under warranty.

  • MacBook Pro blacked out/disk locked

Hello and thank you for reading this.  I really have no idea what to do next, as I think I have exausted most options.
My Macbook Pro recently blacked out and I haven't been able to get it to boot/load (?) for several days now.  It just stays in the grey screen with the apple on it and flickering wheel, and won't go beyond that.  I installed Lion on it a couple of weeks ago.
I bought it in September 2009, and have had it updated every time I have been prompted to do so.
My only concern is that I have been eating away the memory with various media.
After reading some posts here about how to do a recovery, I tried the following:
I have been able to get into Disk Utilities and Mac OS X Installer, but I am not getting anywhere with the choices.
When I try to re-install Lion, it tells me my disk is locked, and I can't go any further.
When I try to restore the system with my Time Machine back-up (USB 1terabyte external hd), it goes as far as 'Select Destination' and brings up a screen saying 'Searching for disks...' but nothing comes, most probably because my Mac HD is locked.
I performed a 'disk repair' in Disk Utilities.  The first time it said that it could not be repaired in bold red letters.  I tried it again today, and this time it said the disk was repaired successfully in green letters.  But, it did not give me the option to restart, so I did so after quitting Disk Utilities. Back to square one!!  Same grey screen as I had before.  I don't know what else to do...
I am now using my old Macbook.
I will attach pictures of the various screens in my next post if it helps.

Ok, so I tried the Safe Boot, and a grey progress bar appeared.  After it filled, it disappeared and left me with the same grey screen as always.  I left it going like that for ten minutes, and then gave up.
I have just booted though the Power/Option key and selected my Time Machine Back-up disk.  Through there, I clicked on Disk Utility and tried to erase my Macintosh HD.
I wasn't sure which format to select, so I went with the default, which is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    It brought up a message:
    Volume Erase failed
Volume Erase failed with the error:
    File system formatter failed.
I could only press 'OK'.   I then tried to do same format, but with encryption.  Same sort of message.
Just tried to do a Restore using Time Machine Backup as the Source, and Macintosh HD as the Destination, but again, this message popped up:
    Restore Failure
Not enough space on /dev/disk0s2 to restore
So, I think my luck has finally run out...

  • Macbook pro blacked out

    Merry Christmas everyone,
I have a Macbook Pro late 2013 and it blacked out completely. I can hear charming sound but nothing works.
    - Tried with external display (both HDMI and Thunderbird port)
    - Tried to reset PRAM by using option + command + p + r key combination (with external/USB keyboard as well)
    - Tried to reset SMC by using Shift + Control + Option + Power key combination (with external/USB keyboard as well)
    - Tried USB boot-able drive to boot into installation mode
    - Tried to access recovery mode by using command + R and power key
    - Tried to access diagnostic mode by holding D key at the start up
None of these worked for me at all:(
This is the worst possible time for hardware failure. I hope I can try something else as well.
    Any toughs?
Thank you very much in advanced

You'd better off making a Genius Bar appointment or take it to Authorized Service Provider to show them your problem.

  • My macbook pro blacks out??!

Hi i have a macbook pro, and every so often when i have left it turned on but closed for a short while, when i try to wake it up it keeps blacking out, but the fans are still going. So i usually just hold the off button for ages until it turns off and then when i turn it on again, its fine... ...for about 30 seconds, until it blacks out again. It usually blacks out while i am trying to reconnect to the internet; i find that i cannot get internet when its about to black out. Usually even after restarting about 4 times it just does not stay on, and then after I leave it for a while, I come back and open it, and it works fine! Is there anything you think I can do that will immediately stop it from blacking out? Also, sometimes when I have left it for a while and come back, when i try to wake it up it stays black for agggeesss with the rainbow circle loading thing, but I can easily make it work just by turning it off and on again, but even though are these problems related? Is it anything to do with the battery? Thankyou!
ps i know my macbook is OSX if that helps
