MackBook Pro shutdown problems?

my macbook pro simple does not shutdown or restart, i need to force the shutdown, is there anyone with same problem?
I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Version 10.7.4
Thanks

Repair your drive. If you don't have Disk Warrior from Alsoft, best and better than Apple.
Some USB devices can cause slow shutdown (iSight or something?) but not normally.
Make sure your startup disk is selected.

  • K7N420 Pro Shutdown problem

Recently my board is unable to shutdown properly. Its running XP which seem to shutdown OK but the CPU and case fan are left still running. Even pressing the off switch does not switch them off and I have to resort to the main power plug every time. When the board is in this state the D-Bracket LED indicator shows one LED "Boot Attempt".
I've upgraded the BIOS to 2.8 and replaced the boards battery with no luck.
    Any ideas...
    Thanks in advance...
    System:
K7N420 Pro with built in graphics
    BIOS V2.8
    Athlon 1.2 Ghz
    2 IDE HDD (40Gb, 100Gb)
    Windows XP

You've probly installed some type of software that is causing your problem...the system isn't shutting down anymore, it's trying to restart instead...
This is a rare occurance and a definite pain to track down...use msconfig to shut off any programs that are loading one at a time and see what happens when you reboot...you may have to reboot twice to see the results...

  • Mackbook Pro Monitor Problem

Please someone help me! I am having intermitten problems with the monitor on my Macbook Pro.  Below is a screen shot of what my monitor is doing. I can connect  my computer to my TV without any problems. Even when all I see is lines on my monitor I can see everything fine on my TV. Someone tell me what is wrong please...

    Welcome to AppleDiscussions!
This looks like a hardware problem of some sort. Do you also get it on an external monitor? If so, it could mean a graphics chip problem of some sort. If the external is fine, then more likely a problem with the display itself or its connections.
Best make an appointment at an Apple Store and take it in for evaluation. If you are under warranty, it should be covered.
    Good luck!

  • Mackbook pro 15'' a1226, problem in the video chip, PLEASE HELP!

Hello, my name is Carlos Garcia from Chile, I have a 15'' Mackbook pro model a1226, no Series. w8******x91, everything was fine until one day when you turn off, no more picture tube, the machine turns on and even boot the OS, but does not generate images, so check this problem with Apple's solution, however in the distributor of my country told me that the guarantee of the four years ended in January 2012, and that I contact Apple Store Mexico, right now I am very disappointed by the support provided by the Apple people. Please appreciate that I can tell I do, if there is any solution for this problem or I think just buy a new machine, if so do not think I could ever trust Apple again.
    Thanks from now.

If you already have an older version of Flash Player, open the Preference pane and select Check Now... under the Update portion under the General tab:
You shouldn't have to install a new version from the website (I'm not even sure if you can) if you've already installed Flash Player.

I have a MackBook Pro I updated to Maverick and now my internet won't open and all my programs freeze and I have to restart my computer. The only program that doesn't freeze is Microsoft Word.

Back up your documents and everything else important to you, not that there is any reason to believe your hard disk may be failing, but the symptoms you describe may presage an impending disk failure, and you should have backups anyway.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Etrecheck will be in your Downloads folder. Open it from there. You may see the following dialog box:
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
After completing the above please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

  • Macbook pro 2011 problems

  • Clock problem and shutdown problem! Are they related?

Having a problem with my Dual 2 GHz Power Mac G5
A few days ago I noticed that my clock was not showing in the menu bar in the upper right corner of my desktop.
I went into System Preferences and went to Date & Time. Under the clock tab “Show Date and Time in Menu Bar” the box was not checked off. I checked it off and went to the “Date and Time” tab. The date and time was correct. I then checked the box “Click the lock to prevent further changes” to lock it. The date and time did not show up in the menu bar. I then went back to the tab “Show Date and Time in Menu Bar” and the box I checked was not checked off even thought the lock was still locked.
I then moved my cursor up to the menu bar in the upper right corner to see what would happen and the spinning beach ball started up but only for the original icons such as Bluetooth, Mobile Me (which I do not use), Time Machine, Spaces (doesn’t indicated the number when I switch Spaces, etc. The icons Norton Anti Virus and Tech Tool Pro in the menu bar are okay.
Also, when I attempt to shut down my computer the system clears the icons from my desktop except for a picture I have on my desktop and I get a gray wheel spinning and the system just hangs until I press and hold the on/off switch. I don’t know if the clock and shutdown problems are related.
The only new software I loaded recently was Skype with Logitech WebCam for the Mac and Quicken 2007 (Had a problem with Quicken 2006). They both are working okay.
And ideas on why I cannot get my clock to show up and my computer to shutdown?

You may have to consider a new post in the Hardware forum area for the computer
model and build/year; if there is a possibility of some basis the matter could be in
the machine and not the software running within it.
Your last two/three posts are in the Leopard 10.5(.8) forum area and do indicate
some kind of problem where troubleshooting the computer to discover if the matter
at hand would be either hardware or software based, may be the way to go.
The link to the 10.6 Snow Leopard forum won't be of help if your computer is a
PPC-based G5 tower, or other older pre-Intel configuration. And I remember
your earlier questions about the iMac G4 and some other issues in the past.
You may ask the moderators to put your post in a new thread of its own, in the
Leopard 10.5 area; so as to not 'piggy-back' another topic; even though some
of the odd issues you've had seem similar to this OP's topic line and appear to
    be in the same general series of hardware. {The question here seems valid.}
The routine suggestions to check, test, verify, and perhaps repair or replace
the system; save a bootable clone to suitable external standalone device if
testing a suspect computer's viability is recommended; and the basics if not
already tried to help isolate the issue(s) as you've posted elsewhere, may be
of some help to try and do; so in that matter, a new thread of your own is best
for your own directed feedback. Since this kind of advice applies to most any
situation, including troubleshooting what may be hardware or software, I'm
adding my two and three-tenths cents worth here.
Your original included Apple Hardware Test may be of some help, in the process
of elimination; but is not conclusive, so other methods would be also suggested.
Some ideas appear to cover the same ground. However, system corruption or
disc failure can also manifest itself in odd ways & affect things indirectly for a time.

So, at the risk of inadvertently alienating the OP, I am posting this as
a general help to following readers at some later time; and it may not
be too simple for a refresh course.
Some software issues can be resolved by repairing disk permissions,
and re-applying the last OS X update Combo file over the same one
already in the system; or if not up-to-date already, check & repair all
the general items and then apply the last Combo update.
A too-full hard disk drive can compromise the system integrity, so that
is a matter of course to keep up on what resources exist and remain
for the OS X to function correctly and for apps to multi-task together.
    However that works out...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Mackbook Pro + Aperture 3 + 1TB drive + Time Machine + Carbonite....work f

    Mackbook Pro + Aperture 3 + 1TB drive + Time Machine + Carbonite....work flow?
I have Carbonite On-Line back up running incremental (wifi to the cloud) backup in the background I just learned that I can nominate folders for it to ignore..
So... to prevent it grinding away needlessly using up resources, I was daydreaming I would import RAW files from my camera into to a "TEMP" folder that I would have Carbonite ignore
I am disciplined at sorting through shots directly after importing them..
Perhaps I can also get Time Machine to ignore that "TEMP" folder too? (Although hard drive storage is less of a worry...
This way I only back up 'keeper shots'?
Am I getting warm? Is this a valid workflow / back up regime?
I hear Aperture 3 has file management functions that are helpful.. But I am not up to speed with what they are...
Carbonite WONT back up attached drives - only the Laptop own drive.. And I want my 'keeper' library shots on two back up systems..
Am I missing a trick? Looking for do's and donts - pitfalls to avoid etc.. I want to set things up the right way from the beginning, I plan to migrate all my RAW operations from iPhoto / Elements set up on a MBAir to a new MBPro running Aperture 3 in about a week.
    Suggestions please..
    Thanks in advance!

During the initial setup for TM, there was one screen that required username wd_backup and password admin. Later I changed the username for the TM folder to garyham58 and a personal password. That is the username and password I am looking for.
As I understand it, the original name and password were supplied by WD and stored on the NAS. Any changes would have been stored on the NAS. And resetting it would have to be done via the NAS.
I would think that there is some way to reset TM and start from scratch
I fear you may have already done part of that, inadvertently, since the folder shows no contents.
But it's not a password for the Time Machine application; it's the sharing of the WD disk, which is done by WD. When you back up with Time Machine to a simple external HD, there is no password for the drive. When you back up over a network to a Time Capsule, or a USB drive connected to it, you set up the password, if any, via Airport Utility, and I believe that's stored by the router as well as in the keychain on your Mac.
Do you still have the original 250 GB HD? If so, your best bet may be to get an enclosure for it, from http://www.macsales.com/ or the like. You can put the HD into it and connect it to your Mac via USB or FireWire, and it will become a normal external HD. Then you can start up from it and "clone" the HD to the new one.
Then you might be able to re-establish contact with the WD, and see your backups, unless they got erased during all the problems, or erase it and start over.

My mackbook pro 13' A1278, has had multiple errors with the hard disk. Now does not recognize the internal hard disk, but connect this HD using usb conector works fine.
    So it's a hardware problem.
    I'm really disappointe

    Pipfromvic,
have you tried installing Mavericks onto an external disk, and booting from the external disk using Startup Manager? If it runs well from an external disk, but continually crashes when running from the internal disk even after clean reïnstallations, then that could point to a faulty internal SATA cable as the culprit.

  • Early 2011 Mac Book Pro (MBP) problem with sporadic AMD GPU automated switching system

I have an early 2011 Mac Book Pro (MBP) - specs are listed below. I have read online about other 2011s having an automatic shutdown problem & sporadic failure re the graphics AMD Radeon HD 6490M GPU automated switching system (among other problems with this "innovation" by Apple). I am having this problem: Shuts down by itself. Restarts - in the middle of the restart shuts down again. Fans are operating just fine. The problem has occurred if a video is playing, if I try to edit a video. It has occurred while using Skype (if the other party puts on their video camera), Firefox & Safari & Google Chrome. It has occurred even if I was working in Word if I was connected to the internet. I am working in a developing country and I have done a PRAM SMC Disk Utility Repair disk had a diagnostic run which showed no problems, etc. There is no temporary fix. Apple now hear this: This is going to morph into a logic board problem and you still haven't done anything about it??? This is an APPLE defect and I am very disappointed in Apple not acknowledging this defect and fixing the problem or issuing notification of a recall. I am outside of Apple Care and I have never had a mac give trouble until the 5 year mark. A 2GB RAM white iMac I gave my Mom is still operating perfectly! I am in the middle of a  climate change mitigation project and a I cannot finish my work due to this problem and I cannot afford to pay for another MBP $2400 doorstop. What is going on here? Steve dies so there is no one to put the fear of God in anyone at Apple anymore and now no one cares  about customer service? Where is the product recall? I have been a loyal Apple customer since 1983. Yes, 1983. DO SOMETHING NOW APPLE & NOTIFY US OF IT - We all registered our computers on YOUR website so you know who we are. I had a 13" mid-2012 that had three logic boards fail in less than a year of purchase. My symptoms were it would freeze while using it or after it was put to sleep. When it froze while being used, it would flash pixels in groups in different colors and would become unresponsive to everything but forcing it to shut down. If it froze while sleeping, it wouldn't wake up and it would get extremely hot to the touch. Apple covered the repairs every time but they sent me receipts and each time, it was a $480 logic board plus labor so it would cost about $530 overall. It sounds to me it's your hard drive because I also experienced two hard drive failures. First time was from an accidental drop. I would get a loading bar on startup and once it finished, it would shut down. I couldn't boot into recovery mode at or do anything. But before that would happen, I would get an error in disk utility after performing a disk repair saying it couldn't repair the disk and to back up as much data as I could. Luckily I have the Time Capsule so my data was always safe.
