Mackeeper keeps asking for access to my confidential keychain information

I recently updated my mackeeper account that was due for renewal and since doing so have been receiving the prompt below, about 5 times a day!!!!! After some research I decided to delete keychain from my apps, can anyone advice me on how to stop the prompts?
I asked mackeeper and I got this shady response: below (The reason I say shady is because my mac was doing some weird stuff until I uninstalled some adware stuff and I was not happy to go near it again)
They said:
- Download this adware removal script: http://www.thesafemac.com/downloads/TSMART.zip (You may want to search for an alternate solution, but this one worked satisfactory a number of times)
- Quit all running web browsers:
    1. Click on the Apple sign() at the upper left corner of the screen;
    2. Select 'Force quit...' from a drop-down menu;
    3. Look for: Safari, Google Chrome, Firefox (widely used browsers), click on their names one by one, and select Force quit.
- Open TSMART.zip and run the TSM Adware Removal tool script, follow on-screen recommendations;
- Restart your Mac: Click on the Apple sign() at the upper left corner of the screen and choose 'Restart...';
I'd also suggest you install either AdBlock or AdBlockPlus extension for your web browser (this will prevent many annoying commercials from popping-up): https://getadblock.com/ or https://adblockplus.org/
Please see more information about the ad-injection software on this Apple page: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987

"MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
First, back up all data.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and immediately emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the other functional components of the software will be deleted. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Let MacKeeper delete its other components before you empty the Trash.
☞ Don't try to drag MacKeeper from the Dock to the Trash. You must open the Applications folder as above.
☞ Don't try to remove MacKeeper while running in safe mode.

  • Reminders keeps asking for access to location. Where are prefs stored?

Several times a day, on my MacBook Pro, I get a message that Reminders wants access to my location. I always click Yes (or Allow), but it keeps asking me, over and over again. And for the record, the computer never leaves my bedroom.
I figured its preferences got corrupted, so I figured I'd trash them -- except I can't find them. There's no "com.apple.Reminders.plist" in either of the preferences folders.
Does anyone know in which document Reminders' prefs are stored? Or does anyone know of another fix for this problem?
    Thanks.

Is Reminders checked in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Location Services? If not, click the lock in the bottom left to unlock that pane, enable Location Services, check Reminders in the list, and then click the lock icon again...

  • N86, PAYG - keeps asking for Access Point

Hi, I have a N86 with O2 on pay-as-you-go. For some reason, it's keeps asking me for a "Access point user name" and password. It asks this even when I not trying to use the phone.
The phone works for calls. and I can connect to the internet to browse the web. I can't connect to the internet to use data to use AGPS though.
Anyway, it sounds as if the phone is regularly trying to connect to an access point to obtain some data. Any ideas why would be appreciated...I really can't think that anything is set up that should cause this.

go to connectivity settings and set to automatic instead of always ask . Or as aspergerguy suggested turn geo tagging on and off as required , but if you check your settings in connectivity it should work without asking good luck

  • Since i downloaded mavericks  my computer keeps asking for l? ocal items keychain password. What is that

Since I downloaded Mavericks my computer keeps asking forLOCAL ITEMS KEYCHAIN PASSWORD. What is that? It wont allow access to my computer without it!!

My guess is all the issues are probably related and fall back to malware.
AVG is probably correct in identifying malware. So I suggest you try some cleaning tools other than Emsisoft .
    ones I use (all of them one after the other until I find one that can cope) are;
    Roguekiller http://www.adlice.com/softwares/roguekiller/
    Malwarebytes anti malware Free http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/var2/confirm/
    ESET online scanner http://www.eset.com/int/home/products/online-scanner/
So first create a clean boot in Windows using Microsoft's instructions https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135?wa=wsignin1.0 and then run the anti malware applications.
My outside looking in guess is that malware has set itself up as an internet proxy and is is downloading copies of itself and other malware, blocking some mail port as times as downloading more malware is more important, and probably breaking your tivo as well..
Try the malware programs first. If that does not work I will try and talk you through some logging to see what is happening.

  • Mail keeps asking for password despite a healthy keychain

So I've run across the problem where Mail constantly asks for the password even though I have it stored in a keychain. I have searched the board and tried every solution proposed. I have repaired the keychain and deleted and reset the password ... everything. It seemed to work for a couple of days ... then BAM! It started happening again. A solution would be extremely helpful as it is very annoying to continually plug in the password every hour or so.

I have the same issue. A previous thread on the topic was closed (although unresolved), so I guess this is where we can discuss possible solutions. Here's one curious thing I've noticed that helps me manage the issue (but doesn't resolve it):
At first when Mail started asking for passwords for all my accounts (even though before they had been working fine), I entered each one and also checked the box saying that it could be stored in the Keychain. But Mail just kept re-asking for the passwords non-stop, making the app unusable. So then I tried entering the passwords but not checking the box to save the passwords in the keychain, and lo and behold, that worked. However, I still have to re-enter the passwords every time I re-open Mail. This is very annoying, and I've even started using Outlook a bit, but Mail is so much better that I'm really hoping to find a solution to this issue.
(As with the OP, I've tried the keychain repair solutions and so forth. I wish I could pinpoint what might have triggered this behaviour to start suddenly just a week ago, but I'm just not sure.)
I wonder if there's a way to edit how Mail interacts with server...

  • What is "exited?" and why does it keep asking for access to Facebook?

Has anyone else had this appear?
I'm running the iOS 7 beta and every time I use the Facebook app or Safari I get about 4 alerts on screen with the phrase:
"exited?" is requesting access to your contacts and basic information on Facebook
I have no idea what it is so I keep disallowing it... anyone got any clues? Searching the web yields no results

This isn't the place for iOS 7 talk yet.

  • N8 camera keeps asking for access point setting

Most times when I start the camera I get the popup saying "Network connection required. Define access point to connect?". I realise that it'll need a connection because I've enabled geo tagging, but shouldn't I only have to set this once? I've looked in the menus & can't find anything in there to set it permanently. It;'s most annoying & I reckon I'll be missing photo opportunities because of it.

go to connectivity settings and set to automatic instead of always ask . Or as aspergerguy suggested turn geo tagging on and off as required , but if you check your settings in connectivity it should work without asking good luck

  • What is "appleidauthagent"? It keeps asking for access to a key chain

When I power up my iMac I get a dialogue box stating that appleidauthagent wants access to a key chain that I do not even have on the computer anymore. I usually hit "Cancel" or waith a minute or so and the dialogue goes away. I am not sure if this causes any problems, but at the very least it is very annoying.
Is there a way to keep this from happening?
    Thanks!

I tried your fix but still didnt stop the popup - however I had to remove the following files as well
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.DotMacSync*.plist.lockfile
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.idisk*.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.idisk*.plist.lockfile
    ~/Library/Preferences/MobileMeAccounts.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/MobileMeAccounts.plist.lockfile
    ~/Library/Prefernces/ByHost/com.apple.coreservices.appleidauthenticationinfo*.plist
    ~/Library/Prefernces/ByHost/com.apple.coreservices.appleidauthenticationinfo*.plist.lockfile
    and then rebooted computer
I believe it is to do with remnant files from mobileme.com, mac.com and iDisk
    problem now solved

my hotmail account will not open. keeps asking for password but will not accept the password when i enter it. its the correct passwrd?

    Hello Duncan,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Mail on your Mac.  I recommend the following steps for the issue you described:
If you entered the correct password in the password dialog in Mail, but continue to be asked for your password, try these solutions.
Open Keychain Access, then locate and delete the mail account password item.
Open Disk Utility, select the volume (for your hard disk or disks) in the list, click First Aid, then Verify Disk. After you’ve verified (and repaired, if necessary) the disk, try sending yourself a message.

  • Since upgrading to OS 10.8.5 login keychain corrupted keeps asking for password for OSX, mail and Safari. Solutions?

  • HT5035 Why, when trying to download a "free" app from iTunes after it say's, "this apple id hasn't been used with the iTunes store" does it keep asking for credit card info???

This is so frustrating! I have an itunes store account, etc. I lost all my info when I had to "restore" my iphone.
I wasn't able to do the "restore" until recently, gosh it was about 6mos or more ago when my iphone died...
So, as I get older I am having memory problems and haven't been able to access my itunes account.
Obviously when I did the "restore" on my iphone I lost all my info with it... So, wanting to use my iphone for
music, games, etc. I had to create a new apple id, fine, but when I wanted to download a "free" app it says
my apple id hasn't been used with itunes so it keeps asking for credit card info.
I do not remember ever having to have a credit card before!
I am so frustrated... First it was not being able to access my account then having to create a new one, fine!
But now I can't download "free" content without credit card information!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! UGH!!!!!!!
    Please, can anyone help...?!?
    Sincerely,
    "Distressed"

If you are within 14 days of purchase you can still return the iPhone and get the phone that suits your needs, however, I think you will find that no matter which phone you get the content provider will want to know how you are going to pay for future purchases. For Android phones it is Google, and they will certainly want to know.

  • Mail keeps asking for password, over and over and over again. How to fix?

How do I stop this behavior of Mail?
I tried disableing my account and resetting it up, but it won't let me do that either. I use Mac OS 10.6.8.

OK. When you say that Mail doesn’t save the password, are you basing this solely on the fact that Mail keeps asking for it? Or is there something else that makes you believe Mail doesn’t save the password?
Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, choose Keychain First Aid from the application menu, and proceed to repair the keychain. If that doesn’t work, try removing the password entry from the keychain and let Mail create it again the next time it asks for it.
