Mackie control again

Hello all.
I have the MCU and 3xt. I've noticed that when I go above 32 tracks and the select button is lit up on track 32, then I select track 33,34,35 and so on. All of the select buttons on all 4 track stay lit. I tried this is tiger and leo with the same results.
btw, this is in Logic 8.01
Any ideas?

Since 8 & 8.0.1, my MCU has behaved a little differently and I've noticed a few issues relating to 'Channel Select' etc. One of note, is where I will select an Aux and it will select the right one, but the MC will jump to a different bank of faders.
I have also experienced stuck channel select LEDs too.
It will be interesting to see if any of these are addressed in the next update, as they have been around for a while and I am sure many, as I, have reported it in the feedback section. I hope so anyway.

  • Logic/Mackie Control not recognized in Logic 8

Logic Control problem with Logic 8. Apparently the Logic/ Mackie Control should work with Logic 8, but since I installed Logic 8 the Control is not recognized when scanned in the setup. I am using a AMT8 interface and everything worked fine with Logic 7 before. The Mackie Control is running version 1.02 in "Logic Control Mode". It is recognized in the Midi/Audio Setup of my mac, but not in Logic 8...

Update: I discovered the cause of the problem: My Apogee Ensemble audio interface. Only after I switched it off Logic 8 would recognize the Logic/Mackie Control. I switched the Ensemble off , launched Logic and voila: Logic Control is scanned and works. The next thing was switching on the Ensemble while Logic was running, now both the Logic Control and Ensemble worked, but quitting Logic and starting it again while Ensemble is running can cause Logic Control to not work properly as I discovered e.g. no display and no fader movements. So this is a bug and Apple's claim: The Logic/Mackie Control is fully compatible is not entirely true as long as you are using the Ensemble interface by Apogee which is a co-production between Apple and Apogee. So I'd say this isn't very well tested by Apple. I hope they fix it soon

  • Mackie Control Pro drawing too much power from usb?

I have a Mackie Control Universal Pro connected to my 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB rom, running OSX 10.5.4.
When I first hooked up my Mackie Control Pro (about 1 year ago) it worked perfectly. A bout 2 months ago my computer wouldn't recognize it anymore. I keep getting this message telling me the device is drawing too much power from USB port and due to that it will shut down that specific port.
My MCP is plugged to the electrical outlet and shouldn't need to be drawing power via the USP. I tried disconnecting all other devices hooked up via USB and Firewire beside the keyboard and mouse but same massage keep coming.
I checked the MCP to make sure the electrical wire was plugged in properly and supplying it with power, I also tried hooking it up with different USB cables via different ports but problem still there.
Can anybody help me out please this is starting to be a big head ache. Any help would be great.

Not 30 seconds after submitting the question  I did just that.  I felt stupid not thinking of that simple check.  Thanks for the quick reply.  It worked just fine with another cable.  It appears we need a new cable for my daughter....
    Thanks again.

  • Strange Mackie Control prob

It would seem that Channel 2 on my Mackie Control causes me some strange problems.
If I touch the Fader (number 2), it takes 2 presses of any function after that, to activate the next selected function. ie If I touch the fader then hit the Stop button in the transport, nothing happens until I hit the stop button again.
Also, on channel 2, if I use the V-Pot for selecting a plugin or in/out setting, the value is offset by a value of one, when the item/value is selected by pushing the V-Pot. ie If in track mode, I am setting the input channel, I might dial input 2, press it, and it goes to input 1 or 3. Weird!!
Has anybody else noted strange behaviour like this?

Has it always been like this, or has it started recently? If so, when did it start, and what did that coincide with?
Does it do it on all your songs, or just one? Does it do it on a fresh built default (option-click on File -> New)
Delete the control surface from Logic, and restart Logic so it builds a new one. Also throw away the control surfaces preferences and try the "Rebuild Defaults" option.
Also try connecting the MCU on different MIDI ports.
Does the MCU work correctly with any other software you have that supports the MCU? (If you have any)

  • Mainstage 2 - Mackie Control Faders Not Working

Is there any way to use a Mackie Control to control Mainstage? The knobs and buttons seem to work, but MS doesn't see the faders at all. Is it a message that can be transformed with midi pipe? I would love to use the MC as a live mixer!
Midi Monitor doesn't see messages from the faders either.

If Midi Monitor doesn't see the messages, then MainStage can't see them either.

  • Multiple Monitor control with Mackie Control and Behringer DEQ2496

    Hi,
I have recently moved over to Logic from Cubase due to the support for Mackie's C4 control. In Cubase I was used to having really excellent monitoring options but I have found this really lacking in Logic - maybe I'm missing a trick or two.
What I'd really like to do is at the click of a button, preferably on my Mackie Control, switch between monitor speakers.
If possible, I'd also like to be able to change the program via a MIDI program change on my Behringer DEQ2496 graphic eq as I have different settings for both sets of monitors - is there some kind of macro functionality that could do this?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Answering my own question.  Apparently, I had substituted one bad Midi interface for another. In a desparate move, I picked up a MIDISPORT UNO (took out the Korg PadKontrol) and problem resolved.  The MIDI OUT port on the PadKontrol introduces big time latency.

  • Trying to update Mackie Control Universal - Help?!

    Hi all,
I just got hold of a Mackie Control Universal, but for the life of me can't work out how to update it!
I've been having a few issues, not sure how they come about, but during working with the MCU, the settings will all automatically change so that:
    1) Panning with V-pots goes all funny - I can only pan channels to -64, 0, and +63.
    2) When banking through channels (be it by bank or by individual channel), it just skips straight to the final channels, rather than incrementing by 1 or 8,
    3) The jog wheel goes really strange, jumping 400 odd bars with every click.
I found someone else online who had the panning issue, and trashing the preference file solved it. However, given that its hapened twice in the first half an hour of using, I'd rather solve the problem properly!
I'm hoping an update will solve it, but (as from topic subject), I can't work out how!
I've DL the midi file, brought it into my sequencer, booted the Mackie in BootLoader mode, but can't work out how to send the MIDI signal to the desk. I've aselected the output source on the MIDI track to Firewire 410 (the MIDI interface that the Mackie is connected to), but nothing.
If anyone here knows how, a step-by-step guide would be greatly appreciated, as I've spent a good 3 or 4 hours fiddling with this with no luck!
    Many thanks

Hey Steve, Heres a link to my fix. In addition to this I seem to remember having to download a free third party midi player. To play the midi file in to the controller. And remember there are two types of files that kinda look the same be sure to download the right one. Also from what to what version are you looking at ?

  • Using Mackie Control with Logic Pro 7 and Yamaha O1X

I currently own a Yamaha O1x which is a mixer/control surface/audio interface that I use with Logic Pro 7. I am planning on selling the O1X and replacing it with the Mackie Control Universal as my DAW controller and using the Apogee Ensemble as my audio interface. I already have purchased the Mackie Control Universal and would like to begin using it instead of the O1X as my DAW controller, but while I am waiting for the Apogee Ensemble to be released I still need the audio interface capabilties of the O1X. The O1X uses Yamaha's MLAN protocol to connect to the G5. MLAN is a firewire interface that can transmit both audio and midi. Does anyone have a suggestion for a work-around solution so that I can use my Mackie Control Universal (which connects via midi cable) and only use the audio capability but not the control surface of the O1X via the firewire connection? I haven't been able to figure my way through this one and see if it is possible. I have already tried having them both hooked up at the same time, and the Mackie Control seemed to work fine but the audio on the O1X didn't seem to be connecting and functioning properly. I appreciate any help as I am anxious to use my Mackie Control.
    Thank you!

You need to connect only the Audio and not the MIDI between your 01x and Mac. You can achieve this in mLan Graphic Patchbay-connect the cables between the Nodes in Audio part of a Graphic Patchbay, connect the Wordclock but do not make any MIDI connections. this way it should work as you want. the other way is to Make your regular connection from mLan Autoconnector and disable the MIDI ports that are dedicated to control the DAW by 01x by some freeware utility (01x uses port 1 for that...)
As this is quite 01x specific, please visit 01xray.com/forums where you will find more help, or send me PM.
As Apogee enssemble is expected to have great features, I would rather recommend the i88x instead of Enssemble (i88x has two Mic preamps-the best Yamaha produces (derived from Dm2000)VERY good converters (mLan is known for low jitter and it was tested with Rosseta by a mate from 01x forum who said (he tested it in store with other people) that i88x sounded better-may believe it or not...).The mLan Graphis Patchbay application allows you to patch connections between mLan devices and computer -very flexible. 01x already does almost the same as Mackie control and it is for almost the same price.... But maybe you are pi_ssed of waiting for new mLan drivers? I am just speculating....

  • Can longer USB cord be used for Mackie Control Universal Pro?

I've recently purchased *MCU Pro; Apogee Ensemble;* new *Mac Pro* and *Logic Studio*. I am about to hook up the components and load the software. I've heard there are issues/bugs. That aside...
The *MCU Pro* is on a stand with wheels. In one of its operating locations, there's about a 12-foot run to the USB port on the Mac Pro. _Is it possible or recommended to operate the Mackie Control Universal Pro with a USB cord longer than the 9.5 foot cord included with the unit from Mackie?_
Any insights into the current fixes per Mac Pro, Logic Studio, Apogee Ensemble and MCU Pro would be greatly appreciated as well.

Ron - I am having the same problem. Did you ever find a solution???
    Thank you for any help.

  • Lost Control of Mackie Control Pro

    Hi,
Up to now everything has been going well with FCP, STP and MCU Pro, yesterday I upgraded to FCP 6.0.4 and OSX 10.5.5 and have lost the use of my Mackie Control Universal Pro. The device works with logic 8 and so I assume that the OSX is OK? Does anyone know of any known issues regarding the Mackie and FCP?
    Anyone suffering the same problem?
Just to add some more on the subject. The transport control seems to be working with FCP along wikth the jog wheel. However the faders go throught the calibration process when you start up but then return to the bottom of the tracks. The display no longer shows the track numbers instead it says simply "Mackie Control Universal PRO by Mackie Designs, Inc. V 3.0.0". I have tried reseting the control panel in FCP and rebooted the MCU to make double sure it is in Mackie mode. I did try Logic mode but get the same as above.
Hoping someone can help me out.
    Thanks.
Mac G5 Quad with 8GB RAM. Decklink HD Extreme. Sonnet 1.5Tb RAID. Sonnet Sata Card. Sonnet FW800 Card. Yamaha GO46 firewire audio interface. MCU Pro via USB.

A look at the Mackie web site finds that the MCU Pro is compatible with FCP 5 and
    OS ver. 10.3.9 to 10.4.9.

  • Mackie control - Please Help

I am trying to install a firmware update for my mackie control and have been stumped by this instruction can anyone tell me how to do this please...
    4. and make sure the Mackie Control/Logic Control is the target midi device on channel one.
    many thanks in advance
    Ivan

    Hi,
you need to do 2 things:
    1. REMOVE the MCU from teh controller setup page, and DO NOT RESCAN!
You need to have not mcu in your controller page.
2.You need to create a new midi instrument, name it mcu, and set it's midi ports to where your mcu is wired to your midi interface.
then, put this new instrument on the arrange page, and place your MIDI firmware update a few bards AFTER bar 1, say bar 3 or so.
Then, when you tell your mcu to get ready for the firmware, you can play it back from Logic into it, IN IT'S ENTIRETY, and it will be updated. If you stop before the entire MIDI is played, you'll have to start over, or suffer from a messed up MCU.
    Cheers

  • How to not use a Mackie Control device

Is there anyway to make Logic not adding a Mackie Control device automatically, or anyway to bypass one that is added?
Why I'm asking is because I want to use V-Control, which uses the Mackie Control protocol, on an iPad to control MIO Console and still use Logic Remote. No Logic however always automatically add a Mackie Control, even in the same session that I delete it. Since I still want to use Logic Remote and a Korg nanoKontrol bypassing all controllers isn't helpful.
    Thanks!

I found what I was looking for: In the Control Surface Setup window, under New, it's possible to turn of Automatic Installation.
    Sorry for the bandwidth.

  • Will a DM 2000 be able to fulfil the tasks of a Mackie Control?

    Hi guys,
I have the opportunity to get a used DM 2000 and I'm very willing to buy it, especially because it facilitates monitoring and routing tasks in my studio.
Does anybody know about the quality of preamps and converters?
I'm wondering if the DM 2000 could replace my Mackie Controls (I also have a C4)?
BTW, how far should I go with the price?
    Thanks for your opinions,
    Eddie

The DM2000 is a great board.
Quality of the pres and converters are far above average for a digital board. They're no Neves or SSL's, but they're clean and very high quality.
The DM2K gives you full control over all major DAW systems (Pro Tools, Logic, etc.) It will more than replace your Mackie Controls. Sell them on Ebay.
The on board compression and EQ aren't half bad either.
If the board is in great shape, whoever is selling it could easily get 15 grand for it. Wouldn't go higher than that. You could probably do lower though.

  • Mackie Control Feedback

I'm looking for some feedback on anyone using a Mackie Control.
Do they hold up ? Built well ? What do you really like / hate about it.
    Thanks,
    m

I've been using a MCU for about 6 weeks now which some may say is not enough time to give a true appraisal but I have been suprised at how much I still use my mouse and keyboard.
Whilst you can access most things with the MCU it is often much easier to click on the mouse to change things.
I only have the main controller and I think to get the best from this system you really need the additional XT and C4 units to get it to feel more like a regular mixing desk.
I have a Soundcraft ghost 24 track mixer which I still use and the build quality is far superior to the Mackie and generally feels solid whilst the Mackie feels a bit plasticy. That said the Mackie does a fine job and I have had no problem intergrating it into my system and it has run perfectly since day one.
The bottom line for me is that whilst you can live fairly easily without the Mackie having it makes everything that much more controllable and gives you another tool in additon to the mouse and keyboard.

  • Mackie Control Protocol

Does anyone know of a list of Control Surfaces that support the Mackie Control Protocol, whether it be direct support or hardware emulation?
I've been searching for a list online and can only find a couple, but no real definitive list.

    Hi,
I am a new Logic Pro 8 user and have bought a Tascam FireOne interface.
I can't set the Tascam buttons, Logic can't find the Tascam FireOne.
Does you know what I should do?
(by buttons I mean the control pad and the rec. and play button etc.).
    Thanks!
