Mackie universal control

I want to purchase an eEmagic Logic Control. Will it work with Logic 7.1? Is there a firmware update I would need to get?
What is the benefit of getting Mackie Universal Control?
Thanks all!

Yes it will work fine, no firmware update needed, allthough you can update it if your want, the firmware is downloadable.
You don't need to upgrade the chips to MCU spec either.
MCU gives you additional controller models, including HUI modes, which are irrelevant when controlling Logic. And a different colour scheme.
Note there is a difference between the "Logic Control", "Mackie Control" and "Mackie Control Universal" - basically - don't get a stand Mackie Control, because it doesn't have the Logic controller handling built in, and so can't be used successfully with Logic (unless you upgrade it).
So in short, a Logic Control will work fine. And you'll love it...

  • Q: For Mackie Universal Control users...

How do you existing users of these wonderful Mackie and eMagic control surfaces like how the box behaves in Plug in selection/editing...?? Do you find it easy, and intuitive?
I'm now seriously interested in getting a Mackie Universal, or eMagic Logic Control. I've been a user of the Behringer BCF for well over a year now, but hadn't utilized it much beyond the fader, and pan automation. I don't like how it works for manipulating plug-ins.
    Thanks!

I've had a Logic Control since it came out. The main things I use it for are:
    1. transport functions, including scrolling to a location.
    2. dedicated "save" button
    3. fader control / automation
    4. nudging objects (VERY useful)
    5. occasional plug-in parameter adjustment
I find that searching for a plug-in parameter I need to adjust takes longer than just reaching up with the mouse and moving it. With simple plugs (few parameters) this is not an issue, but complex ones have LOTS of parameters. The abbreviations (caused by display limitations) make finding the parameter you want even more clumsy.
Still - the control surface is the way to go to speed up your workflow, as well as helping to spread repetitive-stress injury throughout your body.

  • Digi Design 003 or Mackie Universal Pro

Dumping my Roland VS2480 for Logic Pro and I need an audio interface & controller. I am looking for one complete package but so far I have not identified one. The new Mackie Universal Pro has 1 USB & 3 midi inerfaces but does not appear to have any audio interfaces, USB is not the way to go from what I have read. The Digi Design 003 has all the connections I need - yet all it mentions is Pro Tools vs being a viable alternative for Logic Pro as a controller. If I could mash the 2 together I would. Any suggestions? I have about $2,500 to spend. I have a MAC Pro Quad, 4 GB Memory , 3.0ghz and 1.5 TB storage.

    Hi
I used to have a Digi 002 with control surface and now have an M-Box Pro and a Mackie HUI for the purposes of this discussion.
The Mackie works fantastically with Logic as it was codesigned by the Logic and Mackie guys. It works better than the 002 control surface worked with Pro Tools.
The Mackie also has HUI mode which allows it to control pro tools (still in a better way than the 002 did). You can get a "pro tools overlay" ($20 or something) that shows which buttons do what in the HUI/Pro Tools mode. The modes are switchable.
The USB cautions you have seen relate to audio and not midi, midi over USB is no problem. I've got the older Mackie which is midi only which is also fine and you can pick them up around $700. It does need a free midi in out though.
The 003 (whilst pitched as a minor augmentation of the 002) does allow for a midi mode which allows the 003 control surface to control 3rd party software, but the software has to be mapped to the controller which is potentially quite a drag. So there's no "driver/personality" for Logic or Reason etc....
I would say (and am currently thinking about) having the 003 non-control surface (rack) version and the Mackie as the best of all worlds. The MCU Pro (±$1200 midi & USB ) and the 003 rack $1299 would be one way. Or you could get the rack factory which has a cool plugin bundle for $1695 and the midi only Mackie MCU at around $700.

  • Final Cut Express with Universal Control Surface?

I would like to buy Final Cut Express. I want to use a universal control surface such as the Tascam FW1082 with my editing. I know the FC Pro has control surface compatibility, but does the new FC Express?

Bummer. But, thank you for answering my question.

  • Possible to use Mackie Logic Control to control volume faders in MainStage

Hi, is it possible to get Mackie Logic Control to work with the volume faders of the various channel strips in MainStage. Is seems Mackie Control is automatically mapped when using Logic - but MainStage doesn't seem to automatically map faders unless I am missing something. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, I installed 'Midi Monitor' and when I slide the 'Master Volume' fader on the Mackie Control, Midi Monitor reports the following:

  • Logic Pro 8 , Mackie Control Universal control messages sent when arming tr

Ok, I have recently started using 8 for the last 3 or four recordings I have worked on. I previously used 7. I am having a huge problem with non-stop control messages being sent as well as midi note data being sent when I arm an audio track for recording. The data is being sent on midi CH 1 and depending on the audio track I have armed the note data and the control data will change incrementally and sequentially (ie track 1 will send note c-1, cc69, track will send cote c#-1, cc70, etc...). If I disable the control surface it does not happen so I'm thinking it's a combination of the MCU and Logic 8 because I do not have this problem in 7. I just do not know what the exact problem condition is, or how to correct it.
The reason it is a problem is because it appears to be locking up an external midi sequencer/sampler I have attached when I enable record. The end result is that it is taking me forever to track the audio because I have been having to reset the external device over and over. I did not have this problem in 7. In fact I launched 7 and tested it and it does not occur. I do not recall this happening in the prior tracks i did with 8, but those I did strictly in 8 so it may have gone unnoticed.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it because this is driving me mad!!

Is this for the Pro (USB) or the older black midi interface units?
I am running a Pro and I get crashes in Logic every time I do anything with Automation Data. The MCU Pro wigs out, Logic hangs indefinately, and I must begin all over again. I've crashed like this now 5 times in a row, so it is very apparent that the MCU Pro won't have anything to do with Automation Data in L8.
Which is a shame, b/c well, that's the whole point of this blessed MCU!

  • Mackie Universal Controller and Logic...

    Hi all
I have one on order and believe it doesn't come with a manual for using with Logic.
Any ideas on the best place to start with useful resources?
    Thanks!

Yes, Logic comes with a "Control Surfaces" manual, which documents all the control surfaces that Logic supports, and the full Mackie Control functionality is described there (well, apart from the undocumented features...

  • Control mac mini using medius tx1000 universal control

I have a iMac 24, but I am interested in buying a mac mini to use in my home theatre using iPhoto & iTunes. Can the mac mini be controlled using the Medius tx 1000 or ant other universal remote?. Can the mini be turned remotely on and off?

I'm pretty sure that it can't use a universal remote and can't be turned off remotely.

  • How do you update Mackie Logic control with logic pro 7?

I moved my setup to a new location and now when I boot up my logic control its just a blue screen. Ive found its firmware has been blanked. I did some research and it seems emagic used to send users an old .mid file to fix it, but that was long ago. Now all i have is a 1.02 from Mackie, but every time i go to play the song it says error code 1. Does anyone know how to fix this? I think I turned off MTC and the midi clock, but still no go. Does anyone know how I can correct this within Logic pro 7? Any help would be appreciated! Ive never had to do anything with logic control before this, but turn it on!

I figured it out! I had to reset midi drivers in Logic, then a unitor tab came up that was NOT previously there (?) under midi settings and from there i was able to turn off VTC/LTC which was causing the error code.

  • Mackie Universal Controller

    Hello again,
I am re posting yesterday's query to solicit even more feedback. Thanks for the very helpful feedback thus far ... all very helpful and appreciated. I was hoping to get more feedback before laying out that kind of cash .....
    Here's the post:

    Hello logic guru`s.
I am looking to get a controller to save me time in mixes and edits ...
Anyone have any input on options ... what`s worked well and what doesn`t work?
The two I am looking at are the Mackie and the Jazz Mutant.
I did a cursory seach and read some of the other posts, but know that issues come and go over time.
Any more current advice or comments are much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Dee

    Hi Bee Jay,
Thanks for feedback. I usually check the search before posting to annoyance. I did in this case ... and it was previous discussions that put the Mackie in the back of my mind for future. Just soliciting feedback re recent OS and pro apps upgrades - as well as Jazzmutant Dexter controller. No word on the later so it sounds like the Mackie is the way to go.
    Cheers

  • Best control surface

    Hi all,
I'm looking to purchase a control surface for use with logic 7 and protools.
I was sold on the Mackie Universal Control but have recently been told the midi interface is a problem and the tascam us24 is superior. (usb)
Can anyone tell me what the "best" interface is for use in both applications?
Music for film is my biz so I'm looking for something pro...
Thank's in advance for your input. Very much appreciated...
    -BC

Thank you! I had always heard good things about the MCU but been slightly fearful because it was midi based. Decided to buy...but today a large LA music store told me they were "blowing them out" as old technology and that a USB based controller would be superior. Interesting as they're actually tough to find right now...everyone seems back ordered. Now I'm back to square one in terms of confusion over what is best and won't be outdated soon....
    Space /size isn't a problem...just hoping to buy something I'll use for a while .
    Many thanks for your insight.

  • Multiple USB inputs - Keyboard/Mouse, Novation Remote, and Mackie MUC Pro

Im running a Macbook Pro, 10.4 with Logic 8. I just got a Mackie Universal Controller Pro and also use a Novation Remote 49. Ive got an additional 20" screen, with the USB inputs as well.
    Im trying to hook up:
    - External keyboard and mouse
    - Mackie Universal Control Pro
    - Novation Remote
If I plug in the Mackie and the Novation directly to the laptop, everything works. Of course, this then doesnt allow me to plug in the keyboard/mouse as there are only 2 usb ports on the laptop.
Since Im using the external screen, I have the additional usb inputs on there. So, I plug either the mackie or the novation into one of the usb ports, and then the screen/aux cables into the other. Then I plug the other controller into the screen.
With this configuration - one of the controllers wont be recognized. I generally get a message about reassigning or not reassigning them as well.
Regardless of which I choose, the second controller wont come up. Using the midi preferences and controller parameters within Logic doesnt seem to do much either.
Whats the work around here? If I get a multi USB hub, will this fix it? Im wondering why daisy chaining these pieces doesnt allow the midi to be properly routed or recognized.
Hopefully this makes sense and someone has the solution! Thanks.

Hey - Thanks for the quick response.
'Why don't you leave the controllers connected directly to the computer, and connect your keyboard/mouse to the screen's USB ports?"
Problem is - there are only two USB ports on the compute. In order for the external displays USB port to work, it has to be plugged in to the computer via USB as well. I have the mouse plugged in to the qwerty keyboard, but they both need to be plugged in to a USB port somewhere regardless.
    Am I missing something?
It seems like the problem is really trying to plug an external controller in to an apple displays USB port (so that could be a power issue, although the Mackie is self powered, or just general connectivity).
    Based on the above, suggestions?

  • Audio Configuration Contains Unknown items

Has this issue been resolved ?? I have been using Logic Pro 9 for 3 years and yesterday I encounter this issue. Been searching all over the internet and seems like there are lots of questions out there but I did not see any resolution ?? Thought I will post it here. I even ran Logic Pro in 32 bit mode. I usually run in 62bit, but nothing has changed. Please help !!!

    Hey,
We have related problem...we have a project we started in Garageband '08 that developed "audio configuration is damaged" alert that leads to an ""audio configuration contains unknown items" alert after hitting ok. We have a Mackie Universal Control hooked up to our setup. We tried to load the project into Logic Studio, but the same messages pop up. In Garageband you can click past it repeatedly and get back to your project, BUT in Logic you can never get past the messages, and you have to force quit. Not sure if the Mackie control board caused this problem...don't have a solution yet and have not figured out how to extract the pieces of the Garageband project into a new project.
    HELP!
    Thanks,
    Chaz

  • Invalid input settings

I'm recording multiple tracks of drums going into an Alesis XT20. Out of that I'm digitally into bank B of a MOTU 2408 audio interface. That is going firewire into the pci-424e card and into my G5Quad. I'm also monitoring thru the 2408 via a small mixer. After recording 8tracks of drums, I go back to the head of the song with the tracks still in record mode. When I press play, I get the error message "invalid input settings 10021" After pressing enter, one of the tracks pops out of record and the tracks play. THEN when I press stop, the same message arises. ?????????? Very annoying to have to pop out of record mode on my Mackie Universal Control just to monitor tracks. I've got the clock source set to Adat bank B?????

Part of my setup is identical to what you describe.
    I've not seen that error
If you disarm recording on all tracks of the Alesis do you still get the warning?
Are you controlling the Alesis from inside Logic using MMC?
If so does disarming record in Logic stop the error.
I have always switch record arm off whenevre I playback, so if that is relevant I don't know.

ps technically spaking, to be pedantic, the connection is MOTU AUdio wire, not Firewire. The pdi card keeps the firewire bus free.

  • Two fader movement problem

    Hi,
New to Logic Express. I'm using it with a Mackie Universal Control Pro and I cannot get the 1st fader to move on the controller without the third fader also moving. Then in Logic the third channel is affected and never the first.
How do I get this to stop? I do not have this issue in Soundtrack Pro 2. The control works properly.
    Thanks,
    David Perry

    Hi.
    There are Three possibilities:
    1. Look at your channel output...maybe your audio track 1 is feeding MIDI track three as well (strange things in Environment??)
Hook up a MIDI monitor object to your track 1, and look at the MIDI data coming out of that, then also look at what your transport MIDI data is telling you...is there only 1 channel of data when you move the Logic fader? or two? (1 and 3, or just ch1 of MIDI at the output???)
If this is not the case, and you KNOW you are only ouputting MIDI on ch.1 for the audio track 1 fader, then you need to look at the MIDI interface. What brand is it? Motu, Unitor? Sometimes the internal setups for these machines can get corrupted, so they patch themselves internally from ch1 to other channels/ ports. I used to see this most often in Motu MTP/AV units. Reset the unit. And then turn it back on. Does this solve it?
    If NOT, I would then:
    1. trash your controller setup (go to the controller setup, and delete the MCU you see there. DON'T RESCAN YET!!! Quit Logic. then:
    2. trash your preferences, and then
    3. restart computer, to be safe.
4.start up logic, and then re-scan for your MCU.
Did this fix it? If not let me know so I can think some more...
    Cheers
