Macmail and gmail problem

Have been using macmail imap and gmail for ages, have not made any changes (Imap enabled in gmail and in mac mail imap set up as normal) imap mail is taking up to a day to reach mac mail.
On the general settings - have 2 pop accounts with my isp and imap with gmail - settings are to check every minute.
All other mail apart from gmail arrives instantly.
I have only noticed the problem within the last month
The version of mail i have is Version 7.0 (1822)
which i think is the latest i think.

Some suggestions for trying to make Mail and Gmail work together better.

  • Mail.app and Gmail Problem

    Hi,
I'm surprised I didn't have better luck in finding the solution to this.
Why is it that when I have a new message in my gmail account, I see "1" in both my Gmail inbox and my mailboxes inbox in the Mail.app apple program?
Can you tell me how to get rid of the gmail folder so that I ONLY have the mailboxes folder?
Right now, when I click my mailboxes inbox --> unread message, it gets rid of the (1) but the (1) still stays on my Gmail --> Inbox.
It is just a nuisance. Thanks.

Since you do not need the All Mail folder when in Mail, you can select via browser and Gmail setting for POP & IMAP to exclude it entirely.
Do a Google search with Gmail and Advanced IMAP Controls. To enable this particular exclusion, sign on to your Gmail account, click on Settings, then on Labs, and enable advanced IMAP control. Once that is done, you can then click on Labels tab in Settings and make some selections.

  • Apple Mail and Gmail problems

I put all 3 of my gmail accounts into apple mail but now apple mail will not stop retrieving my old messages from gmail one at a time and I keep hearing that weird chime. How do I fix this?

Is it still downloading the messages? Not quite clear on what the problem is - or why it's a problem.

  • E72 and Gmail problem (I can't receive new mail)

    Greetings,
I hava Gmail account set up in my Nokia E72. I can send mail and I can receive mail which is dated till 23.02.2010. Mail that came in my inbox after that date and new mail I can not receive on E72. What could be a problem?

You could try re-sync-ing your Nokia Messaging account to see if that works. I forgot the exact term though but it's somewhere in the options...or settings... It will basically remove all the email data in your phone and re-sync to your connected mailboxes fresh.
You will not be able to download a separate Mail for Exchange application to install in your Nokia E72 because the MFE functionality is integrated (built-in) with the Nokia Email Client that is part of your phone OS.
In other words, your Nokia E72 came pre-loaded with the ability to use MFE. When you set up an email account, there should have been an option for you to select "MFE" which will work, if your email account provider has an Exchange server for you to connect to.
Sometimes, with generic email addresses which is by default a POP3 type connection for example, you may have to manually set up the MFE connection. So the way I do it is to trick the phone into thinking my email address is non-standard by typing [email protected]... This will prompt the phone to ask me for an email type.
The only way to "update" your MFE is if the latest software update for your phone has improvements to the email client software.
As for third party mail software, it will vary because phones don't have the same operating system. There's no universal compatibility with one software. Every mobile software developed must be tweaked to work with different models and brands.
It's not an easy thing to do and consumes time & money. So most developers will focus on the devices that are the most popular among consumers...  If Nokia E72 isn't listed as a compatible device, then you will not be able to use free mail software. You can email the software company that develops the mail software you are interested in to see if they have plans to include E72 as part of their compatible devices
"Try not. Do or do not, there is no try."

  • Safari and Gmail Problem

I recently purchased an iMac, and have Leopard installed. I created separate accounts for my family members on the computer before realizing that Gmail only worked on the administrator account. On every other account when I attemtped to view Gmail, the browser showed this error message:
Safari can’t open the page “http://mail.google.com/mail?hl=en&tab=wm” because it could not connect to the server “mail.google.com”.
I have Safari 3.0.4 and am baffled at why Gmail only works on the administrator account.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I had partial success with this. In the Parental Controls pane, you can add sites that are explicitly allowed. So I added
    http://mail.google.com
and later another Google site (don't recall the URL) that was also claimed to be unreachable. That enabled Gmail to be read. However, when we tried sending a message, Gmail claimed to be suffering "technical problems". Maybe some other site needs to be added to the list.

  • Mail and Gmail problem (beginner in mac)

Hello, I just moved from windows to mac. Right now I am having this problem:
I seted up my gmail account in apple mail, i have never deleted an email in my gmail account (i have around 4k mails), and now when i sync the account, apple mail downloads all and every email to my mac from my gmail account.
is there anyway to download only unread emails (update)? and after a day or two mail deletes old emails?
i just followed mail's steps to set the g acct.
    thanks,

I'm having the same problem, but before I follow this step, I just want to be clear:
I want my NEW mails to be loaded with imap in Apple Mail, but I don't want the old messages (more than 18,000) to be downloaded. Are you saying that if I check "only messages I've read" that only the subject line of the emails will be automatically downloaded from the old mails, but not the contents of the emails themselves until I click on the mail?
Problem is, I also work a lot 'offline' in airplanes, and I want to be able to work on my current emails so that when I'm back someplace where I'm 'online' all those messages can be sent. I do need to have the contents of my current emails (the ones I need to respond to), so will this work against me?
    Thanks in advance.

  • NOAA and Gmail problem solved after one small change - coincidence?

I have a late 2009 iMac with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of memory, and I am running OS X 10.9.4 with all software updates.
I have had continual problems with Apple Mail reliably loading my new Gmail for months.  I have combed these communities and the web in general for advice and fixes, and I've tried a lot of them.  The problem always recurred.  I had to quit Mail and restart the application to load new Gmail emails to my Inbox countless times every day.  If I didn't find everything else about Mail so perfect for all my needs, I'd have quit using it.
Recently, I started having problems getting to NOAA's weather forecasting website as well as the NHC (National Hurricane Center).  I started looking around to see if others were experiencing this problem, and I did see I was not alone.  Someone suggested this fix:  System Preferences/Network/Advanced/DNS and entering 8.8.8.8 as my server.  It worked like a charm, and NOAA and the NHC now come up quickly and reliably as they always had in the past.
Oddly, I have had ZERO problems with Gmail since I did this.  None.  It's working perfectly for the first time in months.  I've checked updates to software and see no changes to explain this.  The only change that took place immediately before Apple Mail started loading Gmail reliably was the DNS change.
I know just enough about computers to understand that I know nothing about computers.  So I'm throwing this question out there to people who do have some understanding of these things:  Is there any connection between what I did to fix my access to the NOAA sites and the fact that my Apple Mail is finally working properly?  Or is it just some freak coincidence?

It has solved my problem untill hal has been updated now i am back to the same problem

I have never been able to use the Macmail feature.  Running OSX 10.4.11, and the problems appear to be related to the fact that when I originally registered my computer with apple, I used an old e-mail address which is now defunct.  Have since upgraded the e-mail address in account manger, but it still locks me out and rejects my user name and password when I try to log in.  It seems it established an account for me automatically when I first fired the beast up, but now the Macmail program is uncooperative with me.  Any assistance would be much appreciated, Thanks

Hi rbcjoker76, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Sounds like some needed System Fonts wre replaced by bad ones. Y also have Font Book in Applications for validating fonts & checking for duplicates.
Required Fonts from 10.3, much the same in 10.4...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2444?viewlocale=en_US
You may have to get Pacifist...
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
then intall the Fonts what you need from your Install Disk.
Or do a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

  • Problem with Apple Mail and GMail

Can anyone help me with the following problem. I use Apple Mail as my client and GMail iMap as my server. When I create mails I often get a problem (I think caused by the trackpad) where the mouse jumps and I seem to generate a spurious draft email. The result is that I have a mailbox called "All Mail" in the Mail sidebar which contains over 10,000 messages, even though I only have a few hundred real messages (inbox, sent and spam) and my drafts folder is empty. In this mailbox there are numerous versions of the same emails saved during the creation of the email, all slightly different. I just don't understand what is going on.

    Hi There
For Gmail setup using apple mail use this guide
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13275
POP access on yahoo accounts is not free. A yahoo mail plus account is needed.
As far as I am aware Hotmail does not allow any POP access at all. I couldn't find any specific information on POP access in Hotmail's help site.
    Hope this helps

  • HT1277 I can not configure my major mail account at Mac Mфail - other accounts such as Hotmail and Gmail are working great. Also, I am using that major account at iPhone and iPad with no problem

hello. I can not configure my major mail account at Mac Mфail - other accounts such as Hotmail and Gmail are working great. Also, I am using that major account at iPhone and iPad with no problem. I had contacted mail provider - we had followed step by step all the settings,, they are correct, and I was suggested to use another mail program. Why, for God's sake I should use different programs for different mail accounts? Anyone, had the same problem?

it says - IMAP - Trying to log into this IMAP account is failed - Verify that username and password are correct
    same for SMTP

  • Can not connect to iTunes and gmail imap problem

I've been having these two problems in the last few days. Before I had nothing at all. Now I can't open iTunes or get gmail emails unless I'm on wifi. I'm on iPhone 4S and this problem is very new. Is there anything I can do to fix it or is it a common problem happening right now?

If you're on 3G, then that's your cellular data.  If iTunes works over wi-fi, then there's no reason it shouldn't work over 3G.
Quit & relaunch the app, restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.  Test the issue after each point.

  • Problem with iMap and Gmail

I am using iMap on the iPhone and Gmail however I have a problem concerning marking messages as read. If I mark a message as read on iPhone it gets marked as read on Gmail but not on my Apple mail client. If I mark something as read on Apple mail it gets marked as read both on Gmail and the iPhone. Can anyone shed any light on this please ?

    Hello,
I can't speak on the MAC side, but in Gmail, you need to go into the settings (top left corner when inside Gmail). You can turn this on or off. Once you get to the settings, you'll definately see it.
    Good Luck.

  • Mail.app and Gmail POP download problem

I'm in the process of overhauling my entire email world. At the moment, I'm trying ot download all of my Gmail emails into Mail.app using POP. This isn't working well at all.
My Gmail inbox has over 2000 emails and All Mail has over 9000 emails. POP is enabled in Gmail's setting for "all mail", not just "new mail".
But when I go to download everything Mail.app's activity window tells me it's downloading x of 427 messages (and I have WAY more than that in Gmail!). So, what's going on?! Supposedly Gmail downloads in batches, but even if that's true, it's hanging terribly, even while just working with 427 emails.
Does anyone have experience with this? I'm trying to figure out where the problem lies.... on the Gmail side, or the Mail.app side.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Synchronisation problems between apple mail client on a MacBook Pro and Gmail

I am having synchronisation problems between apple mail client and gmail on the MacBook Pro, but no similar problems on the ipad and iphone. My mail is not being collected by the aplle mail client on the laptop, and now all my inbox for my gmail account has disappeared, although the Archive and sub folders under "Google" are still showing.
    This is an intermittent problem.
I have previousy re-built the mailbox and solved the problem, but there must be something more fundamental going on, as the problem has occurred again.
    Anyone have any tips?

Sorry, but no. POP3 versus IMAP has nothing to do with keeping spam off your computer. Your ISP should be doing its filtering before the mail reached the mail server in either case, and your Mac would be doing its filtering after downloading the mail from the mail server in either case. (Your iPad does no filtering at all.)
