MacMail cannot erase individual mails in a conversation

There are several mails in a converstation
I tried to erase individual mails by clicking either the trash icon in the menu or the trash icon that is in the mail when you point at it
None of them works. All I can do is to delete the whole conversation

Yes it can be puzzling when seemingly unrelated emails get linked into a conversation. This happens when someone replies via an old subject instead of starting a new subject. I get round that by deliberately typing a new subject header in my reply. That doesn't always work; sometimes a lazy person uses an old, unrelated email just because they can't be bothered to look up my email address. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
I handle my emails by selecting and copying the main points, then pasting into a word processing document. I name that document with something sensible, and save it into a relevant folder. If it is part of a conversation, I add it to a previous document. Then I delete the email.
In that way, I can empty my Mail Trash without a worry.
I don't use Mac Mail as my filing system.

    We have a new iPad2.  My wife enjoys reading and sending e-mails using the Mail app.  However for some reason she cannot erase any of the messages she receives.  The error message is that the message cannot be placed in the Trash Basket.  What are we doing wrong?

    Try
    settings
    mail and contacts
    the e-mail account in question
    advanced
    and then look to see what the settings for deleted messages is. When it is to be removed.
    If all those settings are to allow you to delete from the iPad then there may be something with your e-mail provider and what they allow/dont' allow. I know my yahoo and my hotmail both act differently so there may be settings with the e-mail provider itself keeping you from deleting the messages

  • MY WIFE CANNOT OPEN INDIVIDUAL MAIL IN AOL USING FIREFOX.

    we use FIREFOX all the time when on the internet. when my wife logs into her mail at AOL and clicks on each individual email they will not open so she can see the content. can use INTERNET EXPLORER and each individual mail will open. I can open her mail on my computer using FIREFOX.

    Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
    * "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
    * "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    The option "Erase Junk Mail..." is disabled ever since I upgraded to Leopard. How can I re-enable it?

    can you select the specific junk mailboxes, one at a time, and then go to mailbox>rebuild, and see if that clears up the issue.

    my ipad picked up an email with an attaches keynote file, which has 60 MB. i would like to erase it, but each time, when i would erase my trash, mail is frozing. after new starting, the email will find in the inbox.
    is there anybody who solve this problem?

    if all else fails, try deleting that email account and restarting the ipad, then recreating the email account.

    Did you assign the signature to the e-mail address you are using? Mail/Preferences/Signatures - select the account and use the + to add the signature to that account.

    My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

    In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
    If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • Deleting individual messages in a conversation iOS8

    The trash bin option to delete individual messages in a conversation was available in iOS7. I don't see this any longer in iOS8. Was this useful feature removed?

    I know it can be frustrating when you want to delete a message but cannot figure out how to do so in a new operating system. Please follow the steps in the attached article for information on how to complete this task.
    Send messages with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    How do I delete a message?
    To delete a message, tap and hold the message bubble, then tap More.
    Tap Delete All to delete all the messages. Or tap to select the messages you want to delete, then tap .
    After you delete a message, you can recover it only by restoring from a backup.

  • My g mail opens but i can't open individual mail

    when using firefox i can load both of my g mail accounts but only open individual mail in one of them, this problem has just happened, if i use internet explorer they both work fine and i can read all mail, please help

  • I can't move or erase junk mail

    I have both IMAP and POP accounts and junk mail filtering on which works well. I cannot move the accumulated mail in the junk folder to the trash for deletion. I can mark the junk mail as deleted, but cannot erase it. This problem seems to have started after mail crashed and then rebuilt my mailboxes. I am running the latest version of Leopard. Any ideas?

    can you select the specific junk mailboxes, one at a time, and then go to mailbox>rebuild, and see if that clears up the issue.

Once sent the other messages in the conversation disappeared. I NEED THEM BACK! They all had very important attachments. I have tried looking for them in deleted items, even though I didn't throw any of them away, still cant find them. Never had this problem before. I'm pretty sure its a setting somewhere. Also tried expanding all conversations, no luck. Searching for the mails under the sent email address, no luck.
    I'm sure they are not deleted but have somehow been hidden by Mail. Very frustrating.

    I have found found out what has happened. I had requested a statement dating back to April 2012 from a supplier. They replied back with the latest statementof 2013 only but used the same subject heading as the previous monthly statements. Apple Mail automatically grouped these and I thought that they were sent altogether. As soon as I replied to the last email all other the previous emails ungrouped from the conversation leaving me lost as to where they had gone. They were all still sitting in my inbox but no longer part of the trcked conversation. I searched under the subject heading and all individual mails were all still there. (feeling stupid - )

  • Erase Junk Mail Button greyed out

    In Yosemite, 10.10.1 with mail 8.1 (1993) the Erase Junk Mail options are greyed out, both in the menu and the action menu at the bottom left of the mail viewer window. I cannot figure out how to get it back. I've rebuilt my mailboxes. It happens on all of the accounts. I have an iCloud account, a gmail account and several pop accounts.

    I had this problem and was able to solve it by enabling junk mail filtering.  I had it turned on before in Mavericks, but apparently that setting didn't come over for some reason or other.  Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail > Checked the box next to Enable junk mail filtering  I personally like the When junk mail arrives:  Move it to the Junk mailbox, so I selected the appropriate radio button for that as well.  Good Luck and hope this helps!  
