MacMini 2012 Overheating?

Hello.
I am concerned with my late model Mac Mini 2012 running at 90c while playing Eve Online at lowest settings.  I don't hear any the fan speeding up or etc.  I use Temperature Guage (Tunabelly software) and I have warning flags configured for when the system reaches to 80c. From what I've witnessed at 90c, the MacMini's, fans are still at 1800RPM with the Temperature Guage program (on average calculation setting).  Does anyone know when the fans kick up in speed to bring the unit back down to cooler temps?  It seems that the system runs on average at 1800RPM from 50c - 90c. Should I be concerned about the high 90c temperature or am I getting worked up for nothing?
My mac Mini's specs:
MacMini Late 2012 Model
Apple VGA converter Adapter
1366x768 VGA display
8GB Ram
OS X 10.9.1

I second lllaass's advice not to be worried. Somewhere around 93-96 degrees C the fan should get to around 3,500 RPM. I've experienced this under load of course, running fusion6, vista, coreldraw, myob and quickbooks, no swap usage (16gb ram and SSD only, no HDD).

  • Macmini 2012, Mountain Lion, Logitech C600 webcam USB Mic...

    OK.
So I got the new macmini 2012(base model). Got 10.8.2 on it and a webcam Logitech C600.
Everything works fine (no additional drivers needed). The problem comes when sometimes (randomly) the mic stops working. It is a USB mic integrated in the webcam. I am thinking it has something to do when the monitor goes to sleep, but still cannot find the reason. It sometimes happen after fresh restart. When I disconnect and reconnect the webcam it goes ok. Any ideas?

BDAqua is right Hristokirev. I solved this problem myself with this issue before. Coz I also have a C600. Also if your C600 video display resolution is crap, go to quicktime player then go to movie recording and click on high recording quality on it so you can manually adjust the resolution. So yeah when I first plug this camera it didn't had a 720p quality feature, but its just that you have to manually change the settings in it itself.

  • Macmini 2012 10.8.2 Client installesd.dmg

I bought a MacMini 2012 with MacOS server, but I do not want server, the apple store will not let me download or buy 10.8.2 client, because apparently the build is to to old, or the late 2012 machines need a special version. Where can i find a download link for the installer or InstallESD.dmg?
Will 10.8.2 build 12C60 InstallESD work for my MacMini, or is this the AppStore build?
    thank you
    Jacob

    Understand.
Here's a link to grab the InstallESD.dmg file from pre-installed Lion. The instructions also work with Mountain Lion.
I don't know, however, if you will get a Server version of ML for your Mac Mini and what that version contains. If you do get the Server app within /Applications, just don't launch it to install the Server services. Just keep it in your /Applications folder.
Basically, all you do is this:
Restart the Mac Mini into the Recovery HD by holding down the Command+R keys at restart.
Plug in a formatted (Mac OS Extended -Journaled with GUID partition table) external drive. Like a Western Digital USB external drive.
In the Recovery HD, select the Reinstall OS X option. Follow the prompts and when you get to where you select the drive to install ML, point to the external drive.
IMPORTANT STEP: You need to keep an eye on download and after it finishes; then restarts and BEFORE the startup chime while your screen is black, unplug the external drive. Your system will default boot into your internal drive and OS X.
Plug the external drive back in and open the OS X Install Data folder. Inside you will see the InstallESD.dmg file. Copy it to your Desktop; then use a USB 8GB thumb drive and Disk Utility and restore the InstallESD.dmg to your USB thumb drive.
    Hope this helps!

  • MacBook Pro Mid-2012 Overheating?

I just got my MacBook Pro Mid-2012 less than a week ago, but I am already having problems with my MacBook Pro heating up.  It gets to a temperature that almost burns my hand when I touch the bottom.  My old MacBook didn't do this.  I was running Windows last night and it just shut down, presumably because the computer overheated.  However, I have no idea how to measure the temperature without installing additional software.  How do I do this?  It is normal for the MacBook to do this?  If I take it to the Apple Store and they agree that there is a problem, should I just wait until WWDC to have them swap it out (potentially for a new MacBook)?
I also cannot tell if the fan is actually working.
    Thanks!

As your MacBook Pro was bought only a week ago, return it and get a new one. It's not normal because your MacBook turns on fans automatically when the temperature rises. Moreover, if you run Apple Hardware Test, it will probably give you an error referring to the fan, so it's better to return that computer and get another that works correctly

  • MacMini 2012 i5 grafics card upgrade

    Hi.
I have a 2012 i5 MacMini with 4gb of ram. The integrated grafics card has 512mb.
If I upgrade to 16gb of ram, will the MacMini have more grafics card memory ?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Late 2012 Mac mini has got an Intel HD Graphics 4000, which can get its VRAM increased as it's an integrated GPU. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3246#intel4000
With 16 GB of RAM, you will get 768 MB of VRAM for the GPU

  • MacMini 2012 with multiple monitors?

    Hi folks,
I have a Mac Mini 2012 and I'm currently using a Panasonic 720p TV as a monitor via the HDMI port.
I've purchsed a HDMI splitter as I want to run a second smaller monitor simultaeneously. Can I use the HDMI to DVI adaptor and run a DVI Monitor at the same time as the TV?
I can't use the Thunderbolt port as I'm running Pro Tools and need it for that.
Many Thanks for any advice, I'm new here.
    Steve.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yes the HDMI splitter has it's own power supply, I guess it's going to be a case of try it and see.
The Thunderbolt display isn't an option unfortunately, both financially and due to routing as the Mac mini has only one Thunderbolt port as does the Advid Pro tools HD Native Thunderbolt box (which I place at the end of the chain)
Temptation at this point is to buy a cheap ish small HD TV and see if they work together?
    Thanks for the info.

  • MacMini 2012  External Thunderbolt boxes for FCPX

This was discussd here and there last year but here we are again.  We left this subject with the following collective thoughts with some varations and name callings :
    - MacMini is OK to run FCPX when maxed out with RAM and editing are done in Proxy.
    - MacMini quad server has advantages over the standard MacMini but the GPU ( if there is such thing in MacMini ) is not really up to the task.
    - The bottle neck is the GPU and the slow drives generally.
A year has passed and manu vendors are displaying thunderbolt boxes in ranges that could take an express card to all the way up to Two PCIe2 cards and FibreChannels and 10GB ethernetcards .... . Any of thesee boxes could help the MacMini to rise to the battle for FCPX performance ?
Is it possible to put a high-end PC video card in Sonnet thunderbolt box and get a real GPU out of the combo for example ?

    Ai-Max wrote:

The current situation is that if one sets up a Mini to
boot into Bootcamp with Win7 that pretty much any
PCI-E card will be plug and play as if it were an
internal PCI-E bus on a PC.
However, the way that OSX has been set up to utilize
Thunderbolt devices, the vendor of the card must create
a "Thunderbolt aware" driver for the card to be used in
OSX.  Not sure if any video card vendors at this point
    have created modified OSX drivers.

  • MacMini 2012 fresh install fails

    Hello,
    i own a Mac-Mini (2012, w/o cd rom) with 10.7.
i wanted to downgrade it to 10.6; many apps that i use are not working on 10.7.
so i crated a USB installation drive from the SL DVD i have, but when booting i got the kernel hang.
i tried boot from a USB dvd drive and got the same screen.
then i restarted the mac mini while holding the T to my MBP and erased the HD.
it did not help, i still get the same screen.
and not (since i erased the drive) i can't reach the "Recovery mode" anymore…
    HELP!!!!!!!

    1. That iMac will not run Snow Leopard
see > Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac
    2. If the Recovery Partition is gone, then you may need to take the Mini into your local Apple Service Provider and have them re-install OS X Lion or Mountain Lion on it.

  • Mush/Audio Errors with MacMini (2012) connected via Firewire with Motu 828mk3

    Hi,
just bought a Mac Mini (actual model) and wanted to connect my Motu 828 mk3 via Firewire for audio recording. BUT, via FW there are audio errors/mush (sounds like electrical mush) in all the audio outputs. Via USB its all o.k. ! The Motu works fine with an 2008 MacBook Pro on Firewire!
Has anyone the same problem with audio interfaces on macs using firewire, especially on the actual Mac mini? Is it a problem of the Mac (Mini) Firewire port?
The Mac Mini has installed the latest Motu drivers and the latest version of OS X Lion. The problem exists in all audio applications (Cubase, AudioDesk, Wavelab, even iTunes).
Thanks for your help/answers and best regards.

The problem stems from the Mac (in my case Mac Mini Server 2011).
Apparently, as I read in various forums looking for Mac and Logic, the new models of Mac Mini (2011) have lowered the voltage Firewire.
I have the same problem with my new Track-16.
I can only work fine with USB connection.
Either we change the computer model, or users of Mac Mini (2011) we can forget a Firewire connection powerful and efficient.
Only remains for me try to connect to an external HD Motu firewire 800 which is connected to the Mac Mini previously. I guess the external HD, to be powered via AC, will have enough voltage to the Motu.
    Best regards.

  • MacMini 2012 Fan speeds when downloading

When downloading, fan speeds up considerably, especially on movies.
    Thnaks
    JRC

So does mine.  Also, watching clips on YouTube.  Anything that will use the processor will start to generate heat and the fan speed will start to increase.  Not to worry.

  • Mac mini 2012 new OWC SSD install issue

Hoping someone can makes sense of this report.
My macmini 2012 has been rock stable. 8 gig, Yosemite install.
Yesterday I installed an 120GB Electra 6G SSD as a second drive. Installed a fresh install of Yosemite. Everythign went without a hitch. System ran for 24 hours with non problems. Began installing my software and twice I came back to find the mini had rebooted under the original hard rive/system with a message that the computer had shutdown due to a hardware issue.
Checking Disk Utility the OWC SDD doesnt' even come up.
Rebooting it show shows up again, I can then select it as the start up drive and reboot with the SDD. Everything seems fine. Then a repeat several hours later.
This is the last report. Can someone translate? I don't know if I have a bad SDD, if it's a comptability/OS issue or if I possibly knocked something loose when reassembling. Thanks.

thanks the replies. OWC sold me the kit, cable etc based on the Macmini's specs. I talked with support and the drive I installed should work with no issues.
They did have me reset the PRAM which did. They also told me I might need to install Yosemite 'several times before is sticks' - whatever that means. lol.
Anyway I zapped the PRAM. So far no mysterious restarts with the drive being unrecognized.
One thing I didn't mention though...
MacMini is in a backyard home office (about a 100 feet away with buried CAT6 cable connecting it to the network). I was using Screen Share from my MBP reinstall all my work software. Every crash occurred while using screenshare. I never had any crashes when I was actually sitting at the computer.
I don't know if that has anything to do with it - but I haven't used ScreenShare for any length of time to control the Mac mini since the pram zap. Figured I'll use the computer for a week or so and see how stable it is and then try using screenshare again and see if the behavior repeats itself.
Meanwhile I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I'm just suspect that it was a PRAM issue. But I'm a layman.

  • MacMini doesn't show up in Finder.app on MacBook Pro

    Hi,
    I'm using a MacMini (2012)  as a headless Server.
After upgrading the MacMini to Yosemite (10.10.2), the MacMini doesn't show up in Finder on my Macbook Pro. I'm using this for Screensharing.
Its very strange, because if the Mini sleeps, it shows up in Finder. Then I click the icon, the Mini wakes up. But then the MacMini Icon disappears. :-(
After reboot the Mini it works as expected until the Mini goes to sleep.
I think its a general problem, because all Bonjour using services (like iStat Server) doesn't work properly. All services doesn't show up automatically.
Direct connect via manual tipping in the IP in the Screensharing.app works without problems.
    What I've done:
    - Resetting all Network settings, by deleting the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration folder.
    - The discoveryd service is NOT blocked in the Firewall settings.
    - restarting all Router and the Airport Express
I hope u can help me.
    Greeting Simon

    Hi,
a dongle is already pluged in.
Its not a general problem with the Screensharing tool. Screensharing is working with dirket IP.
The problem is more the Bonjour discovery to other devices.

  • [Warning] South Bridge Overheat in MacBook Pro 13 mid 2012

There was the news about Apple's MacBook Pro 15 video chip Program when Apple admitted that there is a problem with video card chip in MacBook Pro 15 (2012).
Well I got news for news. I have got a reply from the local service that I got south bridge in my MacBook Pro 13 mid 2012 overheated and as a result no HDD or SDDs will work on my MacBook. I need completely new south bridge on the motherboard to be replaced which will cost me about 320 $.
This is a warning for those guys who have the same model as I do and it is my call to Apple.

  • Yosemite TDM   f1/f2 do not function

Yosemite TDM   f1/f2 do not function
I use Imac 27  end 2009 as screen of a macmini 2012 (with TDM target display mode)
the 2 macs are connected by a cable mini display port.
Since yosemite with Command/f2 I switch the screen towards the macmini but the luminosity is at the max .
I do not have the possibility of regulating the luminosity with f1 or f2 as in maverick.
So I can't use TDM any more (my eyes ...)
    Thank's for your help
    Roland

Hey Thunderlight, Sorry to hear about your problem, I ran into a similar problem with my wife's 15" mbp. The screen was completely off but we couldn't increase the brightness because pushing the f2 key just made "Bonk" noises without bringing up the brightness bar.
Go to "System Preferences" and open "Keyboard & Mouse", make sure the box for "Use all F1, F2, et. keys as ....." is NOT checked. That solved our problem. If it is checked the F1, F2 keys don't do anything unless they are set up to work in an application. Hope that helps!
