MacMini and LG RZ-32LZ55

Hello,
I am new here and new to macs and hope someone can help me. I have a brand new MacMini with OSX Lion that I am trying to get up and running but without much success. I am trying to use my LG RZ-32LZ55 TV as the monitor. I have a cable from Hama with HDMI on one end and DVI on the other end that I have previously used from my PC to the same TV without any trouble. But when I connect the MacMini to the TV using this cable, it just says "Going to DPM mode" ("Går till DPM läge" in Swedish) on the TV. So basically, I haven't even managed to get the computer initially set up yet.
I am going to try using the HDMI-DVI adapter that came with the MacMini together with a purely DVI cable tonight when I get home, but somehow I suspect that this won't help. I also bought a MiniDisplay-VGA adapter on the recommendation of a friend to try that means of seeing the screen, but of course, I would much prefer a digital image. I have also noticed several threads on this forum where people complain about VGA connections not working with their 2011 MacMinis.
Can anyone help me? I am feeling very frustrated and very lost at this point.....
Thanks!

No one has any thoughts? :-(
I tried connecting the MacMini to my smaller Samsung TV in the bedroom via MiniDisplay --> VGA and it worked fine. No problems. I then tried connecting with the MiniDisplay --> DVI adapter (instead of the supplied HDMI --> DVI adapter) from the Mac Mini to the LG tv and this time, I saw the white Apple startup screen, but then when things had loaded up, the Going to DPM mode showed up again and the screen went to black. One thing I noticed is that when I then logged into the MacMini via Screen sharing from my Mac Book Pro, the resolution of the screen sharing session was different than when the Mac Mini was connected to my Samsung TV (which is much smaller than my LG TV). So the Mac Mini seems to have detected something or other about the LG TV. But it still does not show an image...
One thing I noticed in the LG TVs manual was the following. Could it be a factor? But I am using a DVI-D cable....
Any help would be much appreciated. I would really like to be able to use the new Mac Mini as a media center in the living room with the LG TV....
Thanks!

I have inherited an ICloud account from one of my employers when transferring from old MacBook Pro (which belonged to them) to new MacMini and need to separate from this, presumably by setting up a new ICloud account.  How do I do this ?  And is there any danger, in doing so, that I might delete any of her ICloud information ?

Sign out in System Preferences>iCloud. This will remove any synced data such as Calendars, emails and Contacts from your Mac, but will have no effect on the data on the server - so that other devices logged into it will continue to see the data.

I tried to set up a remote desktop connection between my MacMini and my work computer.  It was not working so I hit cancel, but then the big black screen of death came up and will not go a way.  I cannot close my computer nor quit the remote desktop connection.  How do you close a non-responsive application?  By the way, I am new to Mac and it is not as simple as hitting the Control, Alt, Delete.  Please help.

Try ( alt + cmd + esc ).  Gives you a menu of running applications, and a chance to "Force Quit".

  • Macmini and apple modem problems

i recently got a macmini (intel macmini) and purchased the external modem. I connect through AOL and when I try to connect to the AOL server for the 1st time to get the numbers setup, the computer freezes and you have to hold the power button down to restart. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Again mstagi,
What type of connection does your Dad have at his house? Is it Dial Up?
If so, are you sure the phone line, he is connecting to, is good?
    Try this.
    While AOL is not loaded.
    Navigate to:
HD > USERS > YOUR HOME > LIBRARY > PREFERENCES
    If present, move to Trash:
    com.apple.internetpref.plist (a file)
    com.apple.internetconnect.plist (a file)
    com.apple.internetconfig.plist (a file)
HD > USERS > SHARED > AMERICA ONLINE
    If present, move to Trash:
    Access Numbers (a file)
    Disconnect Log (a file)
    Session Diagnostics (a file)
HD > USERS > SHARED > AMERICA ONLINE > DATA
    Move to Trash:
    Home (file w/Globe icon)
Don't empty the Trash just yet.
Again reset your Network Preferences, as outined in Previous Post.
Before you sign on, you will have to reset your "Access Numbers" & "Location".
    Load the AOL application.
On the Sign-On screen, Click "Setup".
Next screen, select: "Create a Location with Setup Assistant.
    Click OK.
Next screen, select: "Add numbers from the list of access phone numbers".
    Click OK.
Enter your Area Code, and click Next.
Click on an appropriate number to highlight, and then click "Add".
On the next screen, do not select either of the two "Dial" options.
    Click OK.
Add at least 2 numbers in the same manner, and then click "Done".
That will take you back to your Sign-On screen.
On the Sign-On screen, Click "Setup" again.
Select "Add or change a modem or other connection".
    Click "Next".
Click "Yes", on the resulting screen.
You should then be able to Sign On to AOL.
If everything is hunky dory, you can empty the Trash.
And, rather than doing a Hard Shutdown when AOL has freezes, doesn't Force Quit work?

  • Best way to connect a macmini and new macbook air to one monitor?

I have an older macmini connected to a 17 inch Sony monitor and I would like to connect my brand new macbook air 11" to the same monitor so that I can switch between the two and easily disconnect the air when I need to take it with me. Can anybody give me a good solution. I might be open to buying a new monitor if I have too. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi doxozo,
You'll need to invest in a KVM switch that supports video. What sort of connection(s) are you using? DVI? You can get a decent KVM switch that support video for about $55-75.

  • Network an ethernet MacMini and a wireless iMac?

I did a search but couldn't find this situation. I have a MacMini OS 10.3.9 which connects to my DSL modem/router with an ethernet cable. I have an iMac OS 10.5.5 which connects to the same DSL model/router wirelessly. I also have a laser printer connected to the MacMini with USB, and a color printer with is both USB and wireless.
Both computers connect to the internet fine, but I want to "network" them so I can move files, share both printers with both computers, etc.
Can't quite figure out how to do this, and can't find the appropriate advice on the computers' help menus.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Thanks for your quick response. However, I tried what you suggested, and my computers still are not networked ... or if they are, I still can't "see" the MacMini from the iMac, and vice versa.
On my iMac OS 10.5.5, I went to System Preferences, opened Sharing, and turned on File and Printer Sharing. I also selected some folders, selected Get Info, and checked "Shared."
On my MacMini OS 10.3.9, I went to System Preferences, opened Sharing, and turned on File and Printer Sharing. But when I opened several folders and selected Get Info, there was no option to turn "Shared" on or off. The option I saw on the iMac just did not appear on the MacMini.
On the iMac, when I double-click the MacintoshHD, it shows the MacMini under Shared; but when I double-click the MacMini icon, it shows "Connected as Guest," but shows no folders or files.
On the MacMini, when I double-click the MacintoshHD, it does not show any Shared.
So I'm not there yet. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

  • New MacMini and small touchscreen compatibility...

    Greetings,
I'm trying to find either the correct (updated?) driver for a Lilliput 889GL-80NP/C/T touchscreen monitor (to be used with a new MacMini (2.0 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 / 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM running OS 10.7.3)...
...or a comparable small touchscreen monitor that will work with this new MacMini.  I'm looking at the Lilliput 869GL-80NP/C, but have so far been unable to determine if the touchscreen capabilities are functional with this computer.  Any ideas?  Anyone using a small touchscreen monitor with a newer MacMini?
The Lilliput 889GL-80NP/C/T works fine with my older MacMini (1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo / 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running OS 10.4.11), but with the same driver, I can't seem to get it to work properly with the new one (x/y axis weirdness) and the "TouchKit" app I use with the older MacMini doesn't seem to function with the new Mini either.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks,
    ~tt
PS~ I've read all the existing posts related to this topic (dating back further than would ever be currently helpful -- some new info on this would be great (if there is any?)

    Thanks Viking,
Yes, I've actually been in contact with Lilliput (UK) and hope to hear back from them soon -- I was just wondering if anyone else had similar issues, and had found a solution.  Traditionally, Lilliput has provided products (and support) intended primarily for Windows based systems... however, I've been using their touchscreen monitors with my MacMini for years, and as I understand it, their Mac compatibility is increasing... that said, I wonder how easy (or difficult) Apple will make it for other vendors' touchscreens to play nice with their stuff.  I can almost hear the, "I'm sorry, you'll need to buy an iPad" mantras being practiced at Apple.  Anyhow, we shall see...

  • New MacMini and Linux

I'm trying to get Linux to install on my new MacMini but the monitor driver doesn't not appear to be correct. I've tried Edubuntu and Mint so far. Each time the installation will proceed until the monitor stops and goes into sleep mode because the Mini isn't sending a signal. I've tried both the analog and digital (HDMI) monitor outputs.
I know the new Mini is very new and is significantly upgraded. Has Linux not caught up yet?
The graphics card is a NVidia GeForce 320M
Does anyone have this kind of setup working?

Thanks for the suggestion. The issue is that I can't get Ubuntu or Mint installed (the screen goes dark long before the install is completed) so updating the nvidia driver for Linux isn't possible. nVidia doesn't post Mac drivers so that's not an option either.
I'm trying to set this up as a triple-boot (Mac, Windows 7, and Linux). I've done this many times on other Macs but am stuck on this Mac Mini. This is a training lab and I need all of these operating systems in their native environment (not through Parallels or similar).
    Thanks for your help!

  • New MacMini and security lock

Looking at the new MacMini, I was pretty excited to see that it now has HDMI. However, I can not see any hole for a security lock. Did Apple forget that or is it hidden somewhere ? I am looking to buy this for usage in a public room and with that size, a security lock is quite imperative.
Thank you if you can answer this.

When I prepared to upgrade the RAM in my new Mini, the first thought that came to mind was "where's the Kensington security slot?" I proceeded to search every square inch of the computer for some kind of security measure and was stunned when I found nothing.
This, in combination with the increased starting price, is definitely not helpful with encouraging more Macs in kiosk situations. That said, less than $75 to secure the computer (presuming that's what the security device ends up selling for) isn't enough to be a deal breaker.
Despite the likeliness of a third-party solution, Apple should not have left off this important security feature. Even though the slot would not protect against RAM removal, it is still essential to preventing the loss of property.

  • New Macmini and older Cinema Display

I just bought a new Macmini for my wife and tried to connect it with her LED Cinema Display that has no Thunderbolt. Although the manual says you can plug in the Mini Displayport connector tot the Thunderbolt outlet on the Mini, I only get sount, but no image on the display. Familiat to anyoone?

Check your Displays system preferences.  If the display is detected at all you will see an Arrangement tab.  If not, there is something physically wrong.  Make sure the mini-displayport plug is firmly seated.  Click the Detect Displays button also to be sure.
If you do have an arrangment tab then click Gather Windows to get the Display's preferences on your main window.  Then play with the resolution, and if there is a refresh rate, fiddle with it as well.

  • Macmini and LCD 37" Philips 9986. what appened?

Hi, I bought my first mac and I was really happy to finally change from the Windows mediacenter.
I own a Philips 37" 9986 LCD television with DVI and the macmini connected with DVI cable.
For two weeks everything worked properly but suddenly powering up the mac I had strange violet interference since the first (usually grey) booting up screen.
I tried to get the screen setting menu although the image was terrible due to the violet stripes, I tried to change something and since then I have no signal on the LCD.
I already tried the following steps to find out where the problem could be:
cable test: changed the DVI cable -> the problem persist
LCD test: changed PC (connecting the "old" microsoft which works fine) -> LCD is ok
macmini HW (video card) test: tested the mini with the video I have at the office (XENON 1810E) via DVI-VGA connector -> I can work with the macmini without any video problem
I tried to reset the PMU -> problem persist
I tried to reset the PRAM and the NVRAM -> problem persist
at last: if I connect the macmini to the philips 9986 LCD Television I have definitively no signal (not even the boot screen).
Shall I bring the macmini to the assistance? (I wonder why the first two weeks it has worked properly, and the reason for the violet interference before I got this black out).

  • MacMini and USB3 (USB2 Obsolete?)

Just purchased a new 2gHZ MacMini
I have been reading that USB3 will soon be here to replace USB2
Since the current Macmini has USB2 ports will that make them obsolete when USB3 arrives? I presume the newest MacMini models when they are released will have USB3 ports.

Ahh...not too worry.... I just found this:
    Regarding to
but my understanding is that USB3 is optical so is completely different from the 2.0 specification.
With just a quick search I was able to find this:
Backwards-Compatibility: USB 3.0 is designed to be backwards-compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1.
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,137551/article.html
I think we won't have to worry about compatibility with older devices - I guess it'll be like USB 1.1 vs 2.0.

  • MacMini and Leopard

    Well!
I recently bought a MacMini because the motherboard on my eMac allegedly croaked. The replacement cost wasn't much more than a new mini so I figured, "what the heck." Then, I upgraded to Mac OS 10.5 the day after it became available.
Since installing Mac's new Leopard, I am no longer able to use my Canon 8400F Scanner or CanoScan scanning software, Photoshop Elements, Alsoft Diskwarrior, Lacie SilverKeeper and IMSI TurboCad. The menu bar and title bars in Safari display vertical lines that make text illegible and, worse yet, Apple Mail randomly stops downloading some of my mail from Road Runner. Yep, it stumped Road Runner, too.
You know, I wish they had a method for more thorough testing at the store level, because I am not convinced there was anything wrong with that eMac motherboard. With all the software I'm going to have to repurchase, I'm thinking about taking the eMac off the junk shelf and setting it up on my desk, again. I'm almost certain, at this rate, that there won't be much difference in productivity.
Now, let's see: I'm on Social Security. I don't make a lot of bread, but I feel certain that I can set aside a small amount each month to upgrade my software before the Social Security System goes belly up . . . . maybe.
For the present, however, can someone out there please tell me how to uninstall Mac OS 10.5 and downgrade to Max OS 10.4 without making a bigger mess than I am in right now.
    Thank you.

    Well, Da Brew,
Unfortunately, now that a higher version of Mac OS X is installed, the only way to downgrade is to *Erase & Install*.
You'll have to back up all your data, but this is not a problem as you already do that anyway.
_Running both Tiger and Leopard on your Mini:_
Since you're erasing everything, why not split your internal HD into two partitions,
install Tiger on Volume 1 and Leopard on Volume 2?
Use the Tiger DVD to partition HD (menu Utilities > Disk Utility),
    then install Tiger,
then install Leopard later on Volume 2.
    Good luck!
    Axel

  • MacMini and Windows P Remote Destop Connection

Purchased a MacMini today with primary use to be a media center along with y AppleTV. In that it is in a rack with other equipment I would like to be able to access my Windows Desktop to use programs and visa versa. I was told before my purchase this was possible but I have found no discussion about how to do this, Then again I was told by the sales person that I could not hook this up to any monitor larger than 32". It is working fine on my Samsung 52"...with a little help from this great forum.
If anyone could point me in the right direction about Windows Remote Desktop Connection and the MacMini, it would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jim

There are possibilities, such as using VNC software to log into the Mac from a PC. That typically needs a server app on the Mac and a client app on the PC. Have a look at http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2006/04/13/remote-access-apple-mac-os-x-via- windows/ for one person's experience of doing it this way.
There are other possibilities, such as https://www.ntrconnect.com/web/default.asp?
MacOS 10.5.x (Leopard) has a 'screen sharing' function, which can be enabled in the sharing preference pane, and which allows a remote system with a suitable VNC client to connect and control the system remotely.
