MacMini PPC not starting after power outage

MacMini PPC running Leopard - plugged into a UPS & power strip with a surge protector - it was running last night when the power went out in our area - this morning it won't boot up - get the chime the Apple logo & the spinning clock - can hear the usual startup sounds but a few seconds later it shuts down - inserted the install disk & held the option key - it showed the internal harddrive (with a blue X), the external harddrive with the SuperDuper backup (with a blue X), the install CD (with a blue X) & the Apple Hardware Test, although the mouse works the pointer remains a clock & after a few seconds it shuts down - any ideas or suggestions ? - the Mini acts as our wifi source so am off line except for the iPhone

I take it that the power outage was long enough to deplete the UPS and that the Mini therefore had its power pulled abruptly when the UPS ran out of juice?
Since you have a PPC Mini, you can try a PMU reset. (This is only PPC Minis; don't use it if you have an Intel Mini. Intels get the SMC reset.)

  • Hyper-V manager will not start after power outage and memory corruption

We suffered a 2 hour power outage and upon power restoration I had a corrupted memory strip. replaced memory and cannot start Hyper-V manager due to lost mmc file or does not exist. virtual machines are running fine I just can't manage or create any additional.
This is on win server 2012.
    Anybody....Please Help!!!@!@!

    Try:
    Add-WindowsFeature -Name Hyper-V-Tools
This installs the Hyper-V Manager GUI tool only.
If that does not repair it, try:
    Remove-WindowsFeature -Name Hyper-V-Tools

  • Hyper-V Host displays error "Automatic Reapir Failed" and will not start after Power Outage

I have a single Dell PowerEdge configured as a Hyper-V host running Wink12 R2 Preview as a Native Boot VHD and hosting about a dozen VM's. We had a break in the power, just a lights on lights off, but it was enough to shut the machine down and trigger restart.
But the machine won't restart--instead it displays a message "Automatic repair Failed" and none of the Advanced repair options work to get the host back online.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    Michael J. Murphy

    Hi MJMurphy,
Sorry for the delay , it seems likely a disk problem cause of unexpect interrupt .
Please boot the host from OS ISO and  try to copy the VMs' VHD files and any important data to a safe place (such as external USB)via command prompt mode  .
(perhaps you need to prepare raid driver if you have a raid controler  )
Using diskpart --> list volume to check the status of disk partion or you can contact the hardware vendor to check it .
    Hope this helps

  • Computer won't start after power outage

After a circuit breaker was shut off the computer won't start. I cleaned out the computer and got the light to go green by putting a hair dryer to it.
When I push start button and hold it up to 10 seconds it will not start.
The computer is a compaq presario sr5130nx

Typically what happens during a power outage is not good.  It can do strange things.  If it took using a hair dryer to get the green light on the back to come on, that is a bad sign.  HERE is a troubleshooting guide for power supplies.  Start with that.

  • External hard drive not recognized after power outage

After a power outage last night my WD external hard drive is not showing up. The power light is on on the drive, the DVR is working normally, except my external drive is not showing up.  I unplugged power from the DVR and restarted it, but no change.

I have a 2G Samsung drive in Rosewell external encloser running for over a year.  Two times have lost power and DVR would not recongize external drive.  The procedure I used was to reboot twice via menu>settings>customer support>in home agent>reboot STB.   Mine required two resets, the first reboot looks like DVR recongizes drive but does show as available but second reboot shows disc activity during last part boot up of box then external would show with all recordings and normal operation.   I have not lost any recordings.

I read thru some article about the E4200
    Reset
This button allows you to reset the router to its factory defaults.  Press and hold the Reset button for approximately 10 seconds.  This button is located between the USB and Power ports.  As an alternative, you can restore the defaults from the Administration tab > Factory Defaults sub-tab in the router’s web-based setup page.

  • Pegasus R4 Will Not Reset After Power Outage

I have a Pegasus R4 hard drive system connected by a Thunderbolt cable to an iMac. It has bee functioning flawlessly for several months. We had a power outage during the day and ever since the R4 has not been able to reset. Anyone have any advice out there on this issue.

Not trying to be a stick in the Mud here but you guys that are serious gamers need to always keep a close eye on the weather. If there is the possibility of a storm you must have an APC or Battery Backup. Just a Power Strip is sometimes not enough. Of course you have No Control over Power Companies cutting your Power and causing a Power Surge that fries your equipment. Please Please be aware of the weather I cannot tell you how many things I have cooked over the years by not taking this advise. It can save you thousands of dollars.

  • Mac Mini wont start after power outage, and problem copying iPhoto library. HELP!

So, recently there was a power outage in my neighborhood, the power was intermitent for about 2 hours, during this time my mac rebooted itself several times, but on the second time it rebooted the power went out during boot, then the power finally went out for good, it was back in about 3 hours, but when i finnaly turned on my mac it got stuck at the Apple logo with a spinning wheel and a progress bar that wouldnt go past 40%, when i boot holding command -v it said that there were a lot of errors which were automatically fixed, except for one, "Incorrect Thread records" or something like that.
I have another partition with Mountain Lion installed for emergencies, the other one with Lion became inaccessible to mountain lion or any other OS X version, but oddly enough, I can access my Lion partition via HFSexplorer and see all my files untouched.
My main concern are my pictures in iPhoto, and thats about 36Gb of data, I want to backup them to my windows pc by copying the whole iPhoto library package, but HFSexplores for some reason cant copy the folders with date (XX/XX/XXXX) with the /, and it keeps changing them to XX_XX_XXXX and I know that would pretty much break my iPhoto library!
I googled my drive problem and people said that I need a Disk Utility called DiskWarrior, but I cant seem to find how to to use it, I got a copy from a friend, it was the digital version of the boot disk which need to be burned to a dvd.
Any help would be appreciated, and sorry for the bad english

OK, we need more info about your Mac. Do you know how much RAM it has in it?
If you don't know the model, find the Serial# & use it on one of these sites, but don't post the Serial# here...

  • TS1717 iTunes not starting after power fail and reinstall

I'm using a Samsung NP700 series laptop, with a dodgy battery, running Windows 7.
I was doing some work when the power failed and my battery failed soon after. When power was restored the system ran CHDISK during boot up and found several problems. I then started getting Win32 exceptions from CFNetwork.dll during start up and whenever I tried to start iTunes.
I followed the advice in the support pages and ended up doing a complete clean and reinstall. After this the exception had gone but iTunes failed to start. I got nothing, double click the icon nothing, open iTunes from the start menu, nothing. No reports, no errors it just failed to do anything.
I had installed the 64 bit version but it wanted to install in 'program files (X86)'. Was this the problem?
In desperation I ran iTunes using 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' that suggested XP SP2 mode and it worked. iTunes complained about being in compatibility but it ran.
Switching off compatibility mode reverts back to iTunes not bothering to start.
Oddly enough iTunes remembers that I was using an external drive for my library, I had expected to have to set that up again after the clean uninstall.
Still I am working, iTunes is not happy but I am working. In the next few days I hope to upgrade to Windows 8 - only God knows what problems that will cause.

Okay, things have gone from bad to worse. I checked the event log again after another failure to start and found that iTunes hadn't started because of an exception thrown by AUDIOSES.DLL. Sfc failed to fix it so I tried a restore to an earlier date.
That's when things went badly wrong. After the restore my system refused to boot. Even the recovery disk failed. Fortunately I was preparing to upgrade my system to Windows 8 and already had the upgrade disk.
One clean upgrade to Windows 8 later and my computer is working again. All I have to do is install all my software again. This is not a big problem as I like to do this every so often to clear out the junk. Haven't got around to iTunes yet (still doing BIOS, drivers and firewall etc first). Hopefully I will be all back to normal in a couple of days. Good job that I am retired.

  • Yosemite does not start after power loss

I just want to report a bug related to the new OSX Yosemite.
Here at work I have to manage around 30 iMacs, plus some MacBook Pro.
After some initial tests, where I did not discover any particular incompatibility with our applications, I decided to upgrade my machines to Yosemite, but I had to stop the upgrade process when I realized the new OSX has this big and strange problem... now I have my machines half upgraded.
It happened to have some power losses due to the bad weather conditions, and after each one the machines with Yosemite didn't start... you have the black screen with the apple logo and the bar freezed at almost 50%.
You can only power OFF and ON till the computer finally starts... usually it takes 5-6 tries.
The problem is not related with the iMac models, I have some different kind of iMac and on overyone I have the very same problem, the only thing these machines have in common is the new OSX 10.10 (10.10.1 didn't fix this problem), the others with Mavericks does no suffer this matter after the same power loss.
Hope this report could reach some Apple developer, in any case if I have to produce some log to debug it let me know, I will be happy to help.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Toshiba C855-S5236 /P/N PSC72U-01S006 will not start after power is disconnected

Toshiba Satelite C855-S526 P/N PSC72U-01S006 laptop when power is disconnected either from wall or laptop the computer will not restart.  Have to pull battery and hold power button down.  Then plug in and play with pushing button until it boots up.  Then can shut down replace battery and reboot and it works fine.  Can restart over and over day in and day out, until the power is removed again.  Any suggestions what is wrong.  I have replace the DC Power Jack thinking that might be it.  Still does the same thing.
    Solved!

I figured it out, I think.    I change the battery and it has worked every time booting up after it was unplugged from the power and plugged back in.   Do not know why.

  • Hyper-V - virtual machines don't start automatically after power outage

    Hi,
I have a HP server running Windows 2012 R2 + Hyper-V. On this server, four VM have Windows Server 2003 R2, and one VM has Windows 2012. After power outage, 1 2003 R2 VM and 1 2012 VM are started properly, but the other three machines aren't. I've started
it manually. All VM's have last version of Hyper-V integration tools installed, the option "Automatically start VM if it was running before the service was stopped" was chosen. I'm not very familiar with Hyper-V, so, I've investigated only Hyper-V-VMMS
event log. There are some recurring errors:
The Integration Services Setup Disk image could not be updated: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (0x80070020).
    and
Failed to get the disk information.
    But I think it isn't a clue.
How can I clarify, why these machines aren't started automatically?

    Hi EugenBerend,
Maybe it is related to system resources allocation during the start up .
I would suggest you to configure a startup delay for those lower priority machines so that system
can locate enough resource for them.
    Hope it helps
    Best Regards

  • HT2693 My UPAD lite does not start after recent update. I have lots of info in it. Can anybody help me to get it back. Can I get the update out somehow? Thanks

My UPAD lite does not start after recent update. I have lots of info in it. Can anybody help me to get it back? Can I somehow undo the update? Thanks

    "UPAD lite?"
I expect that you mean some version of iPad.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • E4500 firmware corrupt after power outage

Latest firmware with CCC corrupted after power outage. I reseet the e4500 several times and tried to reload the firmware and still no good. Only way I got it back up is to install the older non-CCC version 2.37. Strange all was fine until the power outage. Not sure if I should even bother to upgrade to 2.38 again.

Yes, power outages may caused some damage either on the hardware or software of the any device especially if there's some activity going on inside the device the time of the interruption. If everything is fine with the old version then there's really no need to update it but if you've noticed some issues, better upgrade to the newer version so to fix any problems.
