MacMini running Windows 7 under boot Camp

I have a MacMini running MacOS X 10.6.6 and bootcamp 3.2. I use this machine specifically to run my windows applications. The mac is running Windows 7 Professional. Its on a network with 2 iMac. Both iMac can connect to the MacMini without difficulty, and look at the files on the machine. Windows 7 is configured for Remote Desktop Access. Both of the iMacs are configured with Remote Desktop Connection 2.1 from Microsoft and according the Microsoft's website I should be able to access a Windows 7 machine. Of course they are not specific about the platform they Windows 7 is running on.
Is anyone out there connecting to a MacMini running Windows 7 (BootCamp) with a RDC client and access the applications on the Windows 7 machine? This use to work with Parallels 6 but I had problems with the machine freezing and reconfigured to run under BootCamp.

ITunes opens but without any text showing. Drop down menus have text but not the app itself. I have a Mac Powerbook Pro running Windows XP under Boot Camp.

Running under Windows XP, a few upgrades ago iTunes started opening without any text showing in the application. Clicking on PLAY will play music but no text shows to indicate what's playing and no text to show music library. Drop down windows show text but not the app itself.
Subsequent upgrades and reinstalls have not corrected the problem, When I run under iOS (Snow Leopard), iTunes opens with text and runs correctly.

Because I created FAT32 partition using Boot Camp tool few days ago I installed my custom copy of Windows XP with SP3, IE7 and WMP10 integrated using nLite (for WMP10 integration use RVM Integrator). I did not use Boot Camp tool this time - I just booted CD using Option key. Then I installed Boot Camp 2.0 drivers you can find on Mac Disk 1. After this I installed Boot Camp drivers 2.1 update. In Add or remove Programs I checked drivers - I uninstalled old drivers which call identical, but you can skip this. Everything works fine BTW it is better to format your partition to NTFS - you have much less disk errors, you do not waste time for disk errors scans during Windows startup, your data are much more safe. If you need NTFS write permissions use great tool Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX or open source NTFS driver.

Well, if his iMac will boot from Snow Leopard, he would have the rather troublesome option to downgrade it to Snow Leopard, install Windows XP in Bootcamp and then bring it back to Mountain Lion (which could then also be used with Parallels for either dual-boot or concurrent use with Mac OS X).

Multitouch on track pad not working when running Windows 8 in boot camp

Does anyone know a work around on how to resolve the issue of more than one fingers on the trackpad? For example, I use one finger to click a window then another finger to slide/move the window to a different location on the screen. This does not work when running Windows 8 in Boot Camp latest version. Any suggestion is much appreciated.

If I want to run OSX Server and also want to run Windows 8 on Boot Camp, will server still run when I boot into windows?

I want to set up OSX Server on my iMAC running Mavericks and also install Windows 8 on Boot Camp. If I do this and boot into Windows, will that prevent server from running while I'm in Windows?

No. Bootcamp, as you've described, requires rebooting into your chosen operating system. If you want to run both OS X and Windows at the same time from your hardware, look at virtualization tools like Parrallels or VMWare.

BSOD every 20 minutes running windows XP in boot camp partition

Has anyone else had this problem? Everything was running fine for a couple of months on my new mac OS X until around the time I installed the recommended updater to Boot Camp 2.1, then Windows XP started crashing every 20 minutes exactly, BCCode : 1000007f. One line of discussion suggests it's a boot camp problem but uninstalling the update hasn't helped. Others seemed to think it might be a graphics card incompatibility. I've now been advised that it's a Norton 2008 problem and I should uninstall that although I haven't tried yet. But the every 20 minutes must be some clue to what's going on. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Axel. I removed Norton 2008 with the uninstall tool and hey presto no more BSODs so far (24 hours). I've also replaced Norton with Kaspersky. I guess this is really a Norton/Boot Camp compatibility problem but it's weird that Norton ran without problems on my system for five months until I installed the Boot Camp 2.1 updater. Having said that, I now see that there are a couple of discussions on this in the Boot Camp > Installation and Storage topic list ...
In one of these, Mark Davidson3 resolved the problem by completely uninstalling/reinstalling his Boot Camp partition and is now running Norton again with no problem but I wonder if that's because he must have uninstalled/reinstalled Norton in the process. Like me, the crashes had started for him only after he installed the Boot Camp 2.1 updater. Presumably Norton would run again on my system now too if I reinstalled it.
Has anyone out there talked to the Norton/Boot Camp people about this?

Running Windows, Parallels? Boot Camp?

I've used boot camp very successfully with my mac desktop, but I'm hoping to receive a macbook (the black one) for christmas, and I'm hoping for a better option when using windows. I tried parallels with one of my older, clunkier macs (the one that's full of my movies, music, etc.) and it ran very slow, and it was nearly impossible to run other programs alongside it. Has anyone else had this problem, or is it fairly easy for you to run Parallels with other programs? I really love the malleability of parallels compared to boot camp. The idea of partitioning a large portion of my hard drive in a fairly permanent way is not very appealing to me. Any suggestions?

Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak 2 or Vista. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not yet fully developed for the Mac - some features are not yet implemented - but it does work otherwise.
6. Last is Q. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.

Boot Camp is only available with Leopard. The Boot Camp Beta that was used with Tiger has expired and is no longer available for use. So contrary to the other poster's comment, Boot Camp isn't truly "free." You must purchase Leopard to get it.

Should I run Windows 7 in Boot Camp or VMWare?

I've recently bought a 15" Retina Macbook Pro, and it is a lovely machine. I program Crestron control systems, and the Crestron apps are available for Windows only, but I have known a few people that have run them on Macs using BootCamp on a Windows VM. I tried Paralells Desktop 8 first but my Crestron apps seemd to crash pretty regularly, so after talking to Crestron they recommended VMWare Fusion. I've downloaded the trial version and installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, and so far all seems to be running pretty well. My question is this: My Macbook has 8 GB of RAM, and the Crestron app that I do most of work in would like to have a full 8 GB available. When I run VMWare it seems the most I can allocate to the VM is 4GB, would I be able to allocate the full 8 GB if I ran Windows in BootCamp mode instead? And would there be any other performance advantages? Thanks.

If you run Windows in Boot Camp, Windows will use all the 8 GB of RAM of your computer, always that you install a 64-bit Windows 7 or 8 version. 32-bit editions don't support more than 4 GB of RAM.
The solution to the question depends on your uses. If the application is working properly in a virtual machine, leave it, because it's a bit long the process to install Windows in Boot Camp, as you have to run Boot Camp Assistant, format and install Windows on one volume, install the Windows support software... Running Windows XP on Boot Camp

When I boot up on my Windows drive, I see the Windows XP sp2 logo, but then my screen goes black. I've run the repair utility off of my windows xp sp2 disk, which did not solve the problem.
Any suggestions on how I can get my MAC Mini to boot up windows XP sp2 on my boot camp windows partition?

I followed the Boot Camp install guide to the letter - checked stuff off as I went.
There are scores of folks in the discussion boards and on web site search result pages who removed the partition and had the same issue pop up after they repartitioned the disk, installed XP SP2 and tried to boot up.
I kept digging - it appears that it is the video driver that comes with the Apple install.
One website said to change your refresh rate to 60 hz, change your screen resolution to 800x600 and color quality to Medium (16 bit) in SafeMode. I have succesfully booted up several times since I did that. The next step is update my video adapters.
First I'm creating a restore drive, backing up all of my downloaded software and then I'll try updating the video drivers to see if that completely solves the problem.
Thanks for the response and advice, but research says that repartioning and reloading the XP SP2 is not the answer.

Can't get wireless keyboard to work in Windows 7 under boot camp

I have removed the keyboard in OS X, and when I try to get it to pair it will show up and ask me to enter a string of numbers and hit enter, and when I do, it says it is working, but the keyboard itself stays in discovery mode (blinking light) and doesn't work.
I have followed every guide I can find with no success. Is there anything I have to do after it is 'paired' to be able to actually get the keyboard to realize that it is paired and not automatically go into discovery mode?

This problem is not a problem with Windows or Apple. It has to do with when the updates are applied to Windows boot camp. The way to fix this is as follows. First click on the bluetooth icon from the Windows start page. Then click show bluetooth items. From this window click add a new device. When the device appears double click on the icon for the device. A window should appear that at the top says general and other. Click on the other tab and another window comes up with a small box in it. Check the box and Windows will search and install the exact, correct drivers for the device. Now the device will pair and work fine.

After upgrade Lion to Mavericks, can't run Windows 7 on boot camp because is hidden/disabled

The question is about iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011)
It was with Lion, there was a Windows 7 (32bit) partition created by Boot Camp v4.
So, I made the upgrade to Mavericks (no clean install), after this when iMac start and holding "ALT" button no longer appears the option to boot into Windows!
EDIT: I installed rEFit, now I can see Win partition but when I select it system says: "A disk read error occured Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"
I am sure that Win partition there is yet because when I'm booting Mac OS X and opening "boot camp assistant" it says me eventually remove the Win7 partition, and because I can see in the "Disk Utility" there's still the partition (disk0s4).
It's because MBR is broken after upgrade to Mavericks?

When bootcamp start, between the choises is to create a bootable usb disk. So you need to choose this and put your windows 7 cdrom inside and an empty usb flash disk. Then the program will take the Win7 file from the copy you have and will create a new copy in you usb disk. Then it will use the new copy for the installation and normally no error will appear.

Windows updates under boot camp

What are boot camp users doing about windows updates. I downloaded the auto-updater and it hosed my video drivers. Had to hook up another monitor to see anything and reinstall the Mac CD drivers.
Is the auto-updater a no-no? Should I just download any updates manually?

I have seen this behavior on my MacBook Pro (Boot Camp). It doesn't happen often, but interestingly it usually occurs in a reboot following a Microsoft Update. Sound familiar?
I know by observing the reboot sequnce of events if it has been locked into this state. Normally, the second time the screen goes black, then I expect the cursor on a black background, and then the final sequence Windows desktop. But the cursor never reappears and the screen remains a black void. There is no response to external input, and the only solution is to hold the power button until power down. It always boots up just fine thereafter...
I haven't installed Boot Camp on my new Mac Pro yet, but I'm interested to see if this problem shows itself on the new machine...
Whatever the cause, it is very fleeting. But it does exist.

Installing new NVIDIA Drivers in Windows XP (under Boot Camp)

This may seem like a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway. Are we able to download and install the latest 9600M GT WinXP Drivers made available here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforcenotebook_winxp_185.85whql.html ?
I noticed the ones that came with my MBP 15" are 177.56, but NVIDIA has posted new ones, 185.5.
Can I update to the latest drivers or am I restricted to the ones that came with my MBP and Leopard Installation?

I have been repeatedly advised by Apple that future Boot Camp upgrades may not install properly if users have installed different drivers manually.
I had experienced this myself on my late 2007 MacBook Pro, and I had to roll back the drivers in order to upgrade Boot Camp.
Many issues have been reported about driver conflicts in Boot Camp on the unibody MacBook Pros, and Boot Camp is definitely due for an update. For these reasons, I have chosen not to manually update drivers on my unibody MacBook Pro.

Can I use my Mac OS iTunes Library with Windows XP under Boot Camp?

Hello. I have a Mac Pro with two drives, a 1TB Mac OS 10.5 drive and a 500GB Windows XP drive. I have a large iTunes library on my Mac OS drive, and I'd like to be able to access it when I'm using XP. I downloaded MacDrive hoping that I'd be able to use the same iTunes library, but I'm stuck as to what to do now. Anyone know if this is possible, and how I can get it to work?

I have my entire iTunes library shared between Mac OS X 10.5.2 and XP (aka. Media Center 2005).
I use an HFS+ volume accessed via MacDrive. In my case I started off with the Windows iTunes as the master (and use it to rip all my CDs). I then set the Mac side running iTunes to use the same iTunes folder as specified in Windows (this is done in Advanced Preferences). I also replaced the Mac "iTunes Music Library.xml" and "iTunes Library" file (both stored in /Users/username/Music/iTunes) with aliases pointing to "C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music Library.xml" and "C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl" respectively.
Note: I suspect the Mac side will need write access to these two files, and as I used FAT32 for the Windows volume the Mac does have write access. However there are now at least two ways for the Mac to get write access to NTFS volumes (MacFuse being one). It may also be possible to tell iTunes to store these files themselves in a common location (not tried that).
While it is not relevant to your query, I have also managed to share my entire iTunes library with Windows Media Player (and therefore also to Media Center 2005). All my music is in Apple Lossless format and I have a directshow filter for WMP to let it play Apple Lossless (or unprotected AAC). I also have a plugin installed to let WMP read the meta tags in MPEG4 (i.e. AAC and Apple Lossless) files.
When I switch from Windows to Mac and run iTunes it does a brief rebuild, when I switch from Mac to Windows it again does a brief rebuild and the result is that the list of music in iTunes on both operating systems is always the same and successfully accesses the same music files on the shared volume. I rebooted back in to Mac OS X at the weekend and was happily accessing the music in Front Row.
