MacOS 10.7.3 preview reinstall

The version of Preview on our MacOS 10.7.3 machine will not run.  The error message says that 10.7.4 or higher is required.
Somehow, Preview must have upgraded.   How do I reinstall a compatible version?

  • Upgrading to 8.1 from Preview reinstalling Lenovo apps

I see there is a thread about upgrading to 8.1 which maybe this should be moved to but I have specific issue related to upgrading to Windows 8.1 after having the Preview version installed for many months.
I'm told when upgrading from the preview I'll need to re-install all my Windows desktop mode apps. While all the modern interface apps can be downloaded from the store I suspect many of the Lenovo applications are legacy Windows apps.
Upgrading to 8.1 means I need to reinstall applications like Photoshop, Office, etc... and I'd like to be sure I can reinstall my helpful Lenovo system utilities.  Is there a link online where I can download them so they work like they did when my Helix was new?
    Thanks,

    There are actually three methods.
    1) Windows update
    2) Windows store (see the link in my last post)
    3) Windows 8.1 installer (DVD or usb installer)

I have a Mac computer and am trying to use a Photoshop CS4 program, but after accessing my desktop files through Adobe Bridge and clicking twice on any of the pictures to get into Photoshop, instead of entering photoshop, I get on the lefthand side an enlarged version of the picture with red, yellow and green buttons on top. Any suggestions on what is wrong, or what can be corrected ?

And there is the problem. Your pictures are opening up in Mac's own Preview app.
Do you want all your jpegs to open in Photoshop, or only when you are in Bridge?
Selecting a program to open a certain file is called: File Type Association.
You can choose this at the MacOS level or the Bridge level.
    Here's how to do both:
Either MacOS or Bridge has the wrong app associated with the jpeg. Let's start with MacOS
Close Bridge and Preview. Select one of your jpegs, and press Cmd i, That will bring up the file info window.
Go down to the "Open with" section of File Info.
Choose Photoshop CS4 and click on the Change All... button to apply this choice to every jpeg on your Mac.
Then open Bridge and see if double-clicking opens it in Photoshop.
Now that means all jpegs on your Mac will open in Photoshop.  Maybe you don't want that.
You can set your jpegs to open in Preview when Bridge is closed.
When you open Bridge, there is Preferences > File Type Associations where you can direct Bridge to open the jpegs in Photoshop when you are viewing in Bridge.

  • IPhoto has a question mark over it. Wont open! Help?

iPhoto has a question mark over it. Wont open! It is completely inaccessible. How can i restore this to my computer and get my pics back?

iPhoto has a question mark over it.
You mean in the Dock?  Then the Dock icon is no longer linked to the application.
Did you upgrade MacOS X, so iPhoto is no longer compatible?
If you moved or deleted iPhoto, reinstall it. It will depend on your iPhoto version and MacOS X version, how to reinstall.
If your profile signature ""OS X (10.6.8)" is still valid, reinstall iPhoto from your system install disks, if iPhoto came preinstalled on your Mac, or from your iLife install disks.
If you already upgraded to Yosemite, you can reinstall iPhoto from the App Store.

  • Video hangs while scrubbing

My biggest problem with FCPX is this: When I scrub over the footage the videoplayback hangs every some seconds for about 1 second. It completely stops while I still move the mouse. It is very hard to find the correct in and out point. It is worse when I scrub slowly. I deactivated the background rendering but it doesn't help. I assume the automatic save function of the program causes this issue. Is there anybody else who has got this problem?

It occurs in the browser and in the project. The computer has a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB graphics card. I use an external firewire hard drive of 1 TB (400 GB left) or my projects. The internal drive is a 446 GB drive, 256 GB left. It doesn't solve the problem to move the project to the internal drive. I checked this already.
The problem occur on two other computers, too: an older Macbook Pro with 3 GB RAM and a white Macbook with 4 GB. Furthermore, it doesn't matter whether I run FCPX from another partition or with MacOS Snow Leopard. I reinstalled the program and removed all 3rd party codecs but it didn't help. Could be another bug on the long bug list. I sent a report to Apple.

  • Why did my Mail 5.1 preferences change?

I have recently had problems with Mail and just today I went into Preferences in the app and, Lo! There seems to be this issue...
In fact, I can't change it! I get a long list of items and Mail isn't amog them. Should I delete preferences in the Users Library or somesuch???
everything else seems OK, just this item. What say you great and powerful ozzies?

Seems to be a couple of caveats about this issue discovered in other posts/threads. Look at this thread for more info:
The shared items in this folder can be disabled within Parallels 7 (in fact I think the problem is only affected in later versions of Lion and/or updates from 10.7.2 forward and Parallels 7 upgrades) by changing the configuration of each virtual machine to no have shared Windows apps to Mac. This is shown in the screen shot below. When disabled, the folder will still exist but be empty. A fix I got from Parallels was to turn the option off. Unfortunately for me, upon doing so on the advice of Parallels Support, the sharing feature was gone, but the problems remain in Mail Preferences.
The shared folder and it's content somehow (eventually?) screws up Mail's preferences and it cannot be fixed afterwards. What happened to me is that once screwed up, the problems cannot be unscrewed with the procedure turning off the setting in Parallels. Maybe the removal of the folder can be done first and then the problem is fixed. I cannot do this because my Email prefs are toast now.
This "feature" in Parallels actually seems to cause harm to the MacOS and it may necessitate reinstalling the MacOS. I would call that a fatal flaw by Parallels. I have a an open case with them and with Apple. Have referred your post to them as well. I think they should fix this AND Apple should in some way preclude links like this from producing these kinds of anomalies within Lion.
If the fix Jay listed works for you, then great. I believe the cause to be apparent and the fault of the Parallels folks' software. It may not work for you, though, as it didn't for me. Whether it works or not, best case is don't share apps in Parallels 7 until the problem is taken care of in Parallels by them, or by Apple, or both!

  • Latest standalone QT-installer for MacOS9

Do anyone know how to get the latest standalone version of Quicktime for MacOS 9.2.2? Reinstall the system on my iBook G3 (clamshell), and did a software update. I got QT 5.02. But I have a remote memory of installing at least version 6 previously. But I can't find any at Apple's web site. It is only MacOSX nowadays.

The first clue is that the file in that link is 10.2 megs, the size of a typical standalone installer. I earlier suggested someone try that link when they were looking to update from QT 5, but I can't remember if they ever actually reported back. Thanks for letting us know that it will work for a full install when you don't have QT 6.0 already installed. I don't know why Apple leaves it ambiguous as to whether this will work for QT 5.

  • How Do I Convert Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview to Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview and Back Without Reinstalling Windows?

    Howdy,
Much like in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, Windows 10 provides you with experience that allows you to convert your Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview to Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview without having to reinstall Windows.
Why would I need converting my Windows SKU (edition)
Currently, you may need this to fix issues with Windows not synchronizing browser favorites between different editions. For example, if you're using Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview in a test environment at work and Windows 10 Pro Technical
Preview at home, you won't see favorites added on Enterprise edition at home and vice versa. All the links added on Pro edition while browsing web at home won't appear on your work PC.
To convert Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview to Windows 10
    Enterprise Technical Preview:
    1. Press WindowsKey+PauseBreak and select Add Windows Features at the bottom left corner of System window.
    2. In the Add features to <OSName> window click to add Product key and type in the
public product key for Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview available here.
Voila! Your Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview is now converted to Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview.
To convert Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview to Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview:
Following the above procedure does NOT reveal Add features to Windows 10 link button in System window.
We could try doing this through DISM tool.
    1. Press WindowsKey+X and select Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
    2. At the command prompt type dism /online /Get-CurrentEdition to obtain information about the current edition of Windows:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> dism /online /Get-CurrentEdition
Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.9926.0
    Image Version: 10.0.9926.0
    Current edition is:
    Current Edition : Enterprise
    The operation completed successfully.
    PS C:\Windows\system32>
    3. Check which versions you may switch to:
    PS C:\Windows\system32> dism /online /Get-TargetEditions
Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.9926.0

Editions that can be upgraded to:
(The current edition cannot be upgraded to any target editions.)
    The operation completed successfully.
Looks like Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview cannot be downgraded.
To downgrade edition from Enterprise to Pro, you can trick Windows setup into thinking it is running on Pro by going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion and changing the following keys:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
    "EditionID"="Enterprise"
    "ProductName"="Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview"
I believe for Pro edition this must be
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
    "EditionID"="Professional"
    "ProductName"="Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview"
After that you may run in-place upgrade using Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview Setup disc.
Note, if you can't find the Add features to option in Control panel, press Windows Key + R and type control /name Microsoft.WindowsAnytimeUpgrade.
If you want to, you could change Windows edition via DISM servicing tool by running:
    DISM /online /Set-Edition:Enterprise /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /AcceptEula
In case you can't access official page for
Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview download, or the page that contains
product key for Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview, you can always obtain the product key by looking for
F:\sources\pid.txt on the Windows Setup disc.

Every time I open lightroom I get a pop up message saying "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" and it closes. Ive already tried reinstalling, nothing seems to work. Help please!

Open the folder containing your catalog. In that folder you will find another folder with the extension .lrdata, and you need to delete that folder. After you do that, Lightroom should start normally and will create a new preview cache.

Lightroom 4.4 keeps crashing saying "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" please help. I've tried reinstalling it and everything  Windows 8.1

I assume you know where your catalogue file (the lrcat file) is located. In the same folder is a previews lrdata folder which you should delete or rename in Explorer, then start LR again.
If I've made incorrect assumptions above, sorry, and we'll go back over it from the start.

  • Images are not loading/not loading completely, persona previews no longer works with scrollover - even after complete uninstall/reinstall, but images work in IE - suggestions on how to fix this??

Images on websites often do not load or load incorrectly/incompletely load even after refreshing page and clearing caches. Often have to "clear recent history" 5 or 6 times within a single firefox session to get working links, images, completely loaded pages. The persona previews no longer do an "automatic preview" with a scroll over and now i no longer even get an image on the page to scroll over (images are just NOT THERE). I have done the safe mode test, have updated everything suggested, have checked all add ons as suggested in the troubleshooting guide and NOTHING shows as being a problem. I even did a complete uninstall and reinstall and it is STILL not working. Worried that it was an issue with my computer, i checked the pages in IE, and they worked PERFECTLY. I am uncertain what to do now. It started as a problem once or twice a week, and now it is EVERY time i bring up Firefox. Help?

the second article did offer a suggestion that SEEMS to have helped ::crosses fingers:: - an about:config, resetting of the preferences for images. we'll see how long it lasts. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the suggestion, the article wasn't one i'd found while searching for troubleshooting info.
Java script is enabled, but the persona's stuff still isn't working. dang it. WELL, one thing seems to work now, at least. thank you.

  • Hard drive absent in disk utility - want to erase and reinstall MacOS

Hi there. Any help would be most gratefully received.
I have a Power Mac G5 Dual 2Ghz with 2GB RAM, one internal HDD (250GB serial ATA 7200rpm - the original one), two external HDDs and a Philips 170B display, running (or not) MacOS 10.39.
It was working fine yesterday but on startup this morning it hung for a while on the grey Apple logo and progress "clock" then froze on a blue screen.
I tried removing all cables except display and keyboard/mouse and restarted a few times but to no avail.
I tried entering safe mode but it wouldn't work. Upon subsequent attempts at startup it took me (instead of the blue screen) to the flashing question mark/finder folder screen.
I then booted from my install CD and tried to run Disk Utility to repair the disk. Disk Utility recognised the disk and allowed me to select it. But when I tried to verify it, it failed and told me to repair. When I tried to repair it told me "invalid b-tree node size".
I then tried running the Apple Hardware Test CD. It found no faults at all in the full test of the system.
All of my data is stored on my external HDDs so my next thought was to erase the internal HDD and reinstall my software. (I use the Mac solely for Video editing and the only applications I have installed - in addition to all the basics - are the Apple Production Suite.)
However, this time when I booted from the install CD, Disk Utility would not recognise the internal HDD. The only thing I had done since it had recognised it the last time was to run the Hardware tests. In addition, since running the hardware tests, the HDD started making a strange noise whenever the Mac was on - like clicking with almost beep-like access noises.
The last time I tried restarting and booting into Disk Utility, the clicking began again and then eventually stopped. But still no evidence of the drive in Disk Utility.
Soooooooooo. I don't need to save any data on the hard drive. I have all my software and OS discs. I just want to wipe the drive and start afresh (assuming this is the best course of action?). But I am unable to do so because of this new development in my attempts to fix the problem: the unrecognised hard drive (coupled with the strange noises).
If you have any ideas, please do get in touch. I'm pretty broke at the minute and I'm trying to find a solution without having to purchase a new drive. Obviously, if this is the only solution, then I'll have to bear that cost. But since it has recognised the disk just a few steps before, I'm hoping there's a way back.
    Yours in optimism

I am not sure about battery, I still use G4 MDD which is unplugged for months, was always off at night (UPS was off) and still works.
But I would always use both SATA drive bays, and I think you need to invest in one or two new drives.
For now, try disconnecting your drive and see if you can boot from external drive and CD/DVD.
Also see if you can get into Open Firmware.
Resetting PMU would also be worth while when you get in to disconnect your hard drive (I think 3 yrs is more than enough for any OEM drive, too).

I'm using Preview with a MacBook Pro and MacOS 10.6.8. When adjusting sharpness in the Adjust Colour tool, images are not saved. Any hint? Thanks.

I too experienced the same issue.  Here are my details:
Recently I bought a 15” Macbook Pro and last night I tried to connect and use a Edirol FA/66 Firewire 400 connected outboard audio interface using a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter then connected to a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter since the MBP doesn’t have a native Firewire port.  What I observed is that the Edirol was not getting power from the bus nor did the MBP (running Yosemite) recognize the Edriol.  At first I thought there was a problem with the Edirol since I haven’t used it in a while but when I connected it to an older MBP that has a native Firewire port, it worked normally.  Is there a known issue with these sorts of external audio interfaces working properly with newer MBP running Yosemite?  I’m hoping that a software update will fix this issue.
