Macos not starting anymore after Time Capsule restore

Hello, I changed the hard drive of my mac book. Then I restored the system from my time capsule.
When I start my macbook it boots but the process seems to stop after a while.
I made a permissions repair but it didnot help.
Tried to boot in safe mode but did not help.
What can I do?
Thanks in advance.

  • Itunes does not start anymore after upgrade to 6.05.20

I upgraded itunes to the current version and after that itunes does not start anymore. I scanned for virus with an up-to-date scanner, scanned for adware with Windows defender and ewido and used the tips from http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42963
I run itunes on Windows Server 2003 which worked fine for three years. I know it is officially supported on XP only.
I deinstalled itunes and reinstalled afterwards no change. The windows event log shows some erors
Faulting application iTunes.exe, version 6.0.5.20, faulting module shell32.dll, version 6.0.3790.2662, fault address 0x0015af84.
    Any other idea?
    Thanks
    Christoph

ok, so I am not sure if this is legal or not, but there is a site called oldversion. Go there, and you can get past versions of applications such as aim , and in this case, itunes. just uninstall your other itunes first.
Sometimes different versions of appications run better on different computers. this new itunes probably just has something the last one didnt that cant run with what you have on your computer

  • HP 6500 printer not working anymore via Time Capsule

I used a Linksys access point, and all my printers and Airport Express were working fine.
But since I swapped my Linksys WRT160N v2 access point with the Apple Time Capsule, my HP 6500 printer cannot be installed anymore on my iMac.
    I have a very flat network :
Telenet router connected to internet, other side : wired Time Capsule (and then wireless to my iMac, iPhones, iPad and Airport Express), wired ethernet switch with wired Brother Laser printer and wired HP 6500 printer.  All having fixed IP addresses (except of course the iPhones and iPad).
When adding the HP printer the iMac system finds the printer as "Officejet 6500 E710n-z (59F608)", but gives an error "Unable to communicate with the printer".
And to make it totally weird : I'm perfectly able to address the printer from the iMac via ip address in Safari !!
No double IP addresses are used in the network : swapped the network already several times with different tools.
Regaring the Airport Express, I cannot set it up again, the light flashes and is not recognised anymore.
My biggest concern is the HP printer ... weird ...
    Please advise !
    tx a million

Did you completely remove all earlier instances of the printer and even its drivers. If not do so.. after reboot of the iMac download direct from HP any new drivers they may have and reinstall. We have seen it on other occasions.. it is very stubborn if it has any previous setup or drivers.
When you swap the two routers.. are you keeping the old IP addressing scheme.. ie moving TC from its default 10.0.1.1 to the Linksys standard 192.168.1.1 .. as occasionally again.. devices can sometimes be finiky off their default.

  • Performance Issues after Time Capsule restore

    Hi,
I had a Macbook Air 11 latest version which I just sold. Now I have a Mac Pro 13 with a normal 750GB Disk. I did a complete restore of the last Time Capsule back up from the Air to the Pro. After this was completed I installed Lion latest release over the restored installation.
Now everything is running but I still have the impression, that the pro is much slower than the Air - I guess one thing is the difference of performance between SSD and normal disks. But still the Pro has much more CPU power, right?
So my question is: is there any chance, that through the restore procedure I did, the Pro hardware could have been corrupted as the backup did not match the target machine (Air to Pro)? Is there any way to check of the hardware is working as designed? I have been reading in the communities about the AHT tool, but I can not locate it on Lion, the "D" key has no effect and I have no Leopard Disks containing AHT...
    Thanks for your thoughts.

There is a lot more to performance than raw processing power, and the way it manifests itself is in bottlenecks to performance.
A Mac can have too little RAM for what it is doing, or can have a slow old drive with everything on one drive.
Despite the fact that it may have twelve fast processors capable of dimming the lights in the entire Western Hemisphere, it will be slow.

  • Flashing question mark folder when start iMac after Time Capsule performed a new back up

I switched my iMac on after a few days away and I was asked to start a new back up for Time Capsule to enhance the performance of the device (or something along those lines). Clicked the back up now and carried on, having read the process could take a few hours (not surprising because of the amount of data on my computer).
Left it running overnight and when I came back this morning the computer was off.  Switched it on, saw the apple logo and the progress bar but it didn't move past 25% before I had a message in several languages to turn the computer off (and some script in the top left corner.  From memory I think I saw <panic> in that script but not 100% sure).
When I switched it back on I had the dreadful flashing question mark so performed steps described in support.apple.com/kb/ts1440 several times and performed a safe Boot.  No results.
I haven't reinstalled Mac OS X (step 11 in ts1440) as I don't want to erase the hard drive.
I have plugged the Time Capsule in a MacBook and it seems empty bar 2 very small files so I'm now very worried.  I have some questions:
1- I'm not a technical person so is this now a case of bringing the iMac and Time Capsule to an Apple shop or call Apple support when they reopen tomorrow Monday?
2 - Is my data wiped out in the iMac and Time Capsule? If yes is it recoverable - obviously not by me but by an expert?
3 - what created the problem?  My Lightroom 3 catalog was corrupted 3-4 times over the last few weeks and was surprised that Time Capsule wanted to perform a new back up but everything otherwise was working fine.
I'm very much looking forward to your help and suggestions.

You have a couple of options and I also have a suggestion for the future. First is you can try Data Rescue software. You can find it at:
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
The other is sending the HD out to a professional data recovery service.
My suggestion though is using a redundant backup system. Many on this forum do just that because a backup (as you have found out) can fail too. What I use is TM and on a separate EHD I created a bootable clone using SuperDuper. You can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner for this. I'd recommend reading the following MacWorld articles for backup strategies. I think you'll see a recurring them in them and that is redundancy is wise.
    Backup Plan
    Backup Plan II
    Backup Plan III
Also it wasn't a virus, you are correct there are none for OS X.
    Good luck on the recovery.

  • Cannot Finalise HP Setup Assistant after Time Capsule Restore

    Hi all,
I recently had to install a new hard drive on my iMac.
I restored my system using Time Capsule.
I had to re-install my HP software for my LaserJet all-in-one as it would no longer scan.
Un-installed the software then downloaded and re-installed the 10.6 Full Solution from HP website.
HP Setup Assistant launches, detects my printer etc.
But when it gets to the last screen where it is asking me to confirm all my settings, I click Continue and it just hangs. I have to Quit HP Setup App.
I can print fine and scan, however, I can no longer scan using the ADF. It is greyed out in the software.
My feeling is it is because I have not run the HP Setup App correctly.
    My question is:
Is there any kind of hidden HP files I can delete in Finder that may be corrupting and preventing the HP Setup App from working?
    Thanks.

I will try a Clean Install, this should resolve issue.

  • IPhoto is empty after Time Capsule restore

i recently got a new iMac and am trying to restore my iPhoto library from time capsule on an external hard drive.  my previous macbook with the original library was stolen so the external drive is my only hope of recovering years of photos.
i have tried going into time machine and restoring the iPhoto library.  iPhoto shows several of my albums but zero photos.  i have tried looking for the masters file but it appears empty.  both times, the file size is significant though nothing appears.  i am not sure what else to try.

I would post in the TimeMachine forum - this is really a TM issue - not an iPhoto for Mac issue
If the Masters folder is empty then the restore has not gone well

  • Mac will not log in after time machine restore. Snow leopard

I managed to delete 6000 photos by accident on my mac (it can be done), luckily iv kept up to date back ups with time machine, so I bottled off the snow leopard cd, followed utilities and did a system restore. Everything sempt to have worked well till I got to the log in screen, I typed in my password and it just keeps saying 'you are unable to log into the file vault user account "Alex" at this time, Logging in failed because an error occurred'. I know for a 100% fact my password is correct  and I went through the reset options and it still wouldn't work after completing it. Iv googled a few fixes but nothing seems to have worked correctly, I'm not exactly the biggest wiz with macs so I'm not 100% sure if iv done any of them correctly. Please if anyone else has had the same problem and found and fix can you help this is a huge inconvenience
    Thank you
    Alex

something may be wrong with the backup you used to restore. something can also be wrong with the file system. i suggest you boot from the SL install DVD (make sure it's snow leopard, not leopard one btw). then start disk utility and reformat (not just erase) the whole drive using the partition tab. then quit disk utility and do a restore from an earlier time point. see if it works then.

  • Macbook Pro has slow start up after Time Machine restore

My 2.4 Ghz Santa Rosa MBP had Ubuntu Hardy and 10.5 on it. I played with Ubuntu for a while and decided to go back to OS X only. I wiped the HDD and reinstalled Leopard, then restored from a time machine back-up. Since then, my MBP has gone to a white blank screen for about 5 or 6 seconds before displaying an apple on start up. What could be causing this? I tried disk utility options, nothing worked, restored from a different back- up with no luck also. Any Ideas? My start up has slowed a very noticeable amount since going back to one OS
    Thanks in Advance

So after quiting and restarting.. all the history disappeared..
I restored ~/Library/Messages from time machine from a day earlier..

    1) Tried disable / enable message on Mac and iPhone
    2) Tried Disk repair for any permission issues
Any ideas? How to fix this??
//Not having a good experience with mavericks with many small issues..

    Hi,
So what version is Messages saying it is Now ?
Which version did you try to Time Machine back to the computer ?
Since iChat 3 the App has to match with the OS level.
This applies down to increment levels as well.

  • Help after Time Capsule restore

I had to do a complete restore on my MacBook Pro and everything went well except for a couple of problems. The main one is my hard drive space was down significantly. At first I was down around 55GBs, but I found the old user home fie and deleted it. That helped a lot, but I am still missing 4GBs of space and I have also found a lot duplicate files and I am afraid to delete them since I am not sure what they are. I am using DupeZap which I purchased from the App Store. Any idea where my 4GBs went, so I can delete them? Then should I worry about the duplicate files? I don't think they are responsible for the 4GB difference, they seem to be system files that are small. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used Migration Assistant. Is that not a good way to this?
    Often it's not.
I could not find a better method; I could not access my old ID since I had created a new home user when I set up OSX. I hope this makes sense; but there was no way to access the other users back up.
Yes, that's one of the problems with using +Migration Assistant;+ you end up with an extra user account.
Do you now have data you need to keep in both accounts? If not, your best bet is probably to start over and do the full restore, per #14 in the FAQ. That will put everything back exactly the way it was at the time of any backup you select.
Why did you run +Migration Assistant?+ The reason might lead to a different recommendation.
Are you having any permissions problems (not being able to change files, or delete things, without entering your Admin password)?
If your only problem now is the duplicate files, however, what & where are they? Any that include "(from old Mac)" in the name are probably files copied by +Migration Assistant.+

  • Apple TV not starting anymore after update

My Apple TV is set on applying updates automatically. When I started it yesterday it showed a message that an update had failed and encouraged me to perform the update manually. I did so in the settings and everything looked normal. The updated was first downloaded and then the installation performed however at the end of this task the Apple TV shut down and now I cannot start it at all anymore. Holding down Menu and Down on the Apple Remote for six seconds does not work either.

If you really want to restore your system [this link|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61802|How to restore your Apple software] might be of some help... It boils down to this:
*Restore Mac OS X and all bundled applications without erasing the Mac OS X volume*
    1. Back up your essential files. This is a wise precaution even though you won't be erasing the volume.
    2. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that shipped with your computer.
    3. Double-click "Install Mac OS X and Bundled Software."
    4. Follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall all software.

  • Macbook does not start anymore after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I successfully upgraded my MacbookAir to Snow Leopard, but my son's Macbook refuses to start after having been upgraded.
    Please help!

    Hello,
my MacBook Pro (late 2008 unibody) just needs a main logicboard replacement, fortunatly still within warrenty, after updating to 10.6.0. I experienced the following: With an update from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 the MBP freezed within 10min. after reboot, with every restart it freezed after a shorter period and finally freezed during the boot process. I've mounted the MBP as an external HD to my iMac, did an backup and deleted the internal MBP harddrive by overwriting it with zeros. I did the usual procedure of resetting SMC, P/V-RAM and reinstalled 10.5.6 - everything was fine again!
When Snow Leopard came out, I updated again, hoping the issue has been repaired. BUT I experienced the same problems and with some system permission deleting I got SL running as long as I did not turn on AirPort. As soon airport is activated and an internet connection is established I could count the seconds until the mac freezes. And it will only come up again by deleting the system configuration preferences (via single user mode booting).
Thereafter I was sure there is a hardware problem with the airport card or the logic board. The Apple Service Provider did not find any hardware failure and finally will change the logic board. Hopefully I got the Mac back next Tuesday. I let you know about the results.
    Best regards!
PS: Obviously software could damage hardware or some hardware components used by Apple are not compatible with some of their software.
