Macos X changes Folder view of other folders

When i open a folder and set it from ICON view to LISt view... I looked at other folders and i noticed those folders change too. This is a weird bug. Doesn't bother me that much but it does bother .
I'm using macos x 10.6.2

People kept complaining about not being able to set a universal view for their folders. So Apple responded with a new way of handling folder views. I don't think much of it, but no one asked me.
Anyway, now when you want a folder to always open in a specific view you have to explicitly set it using View Options for the folder, and checking the box at the top. Otherwise whatever view you last used will be used for all folders you open after you choose the view, unless the folder has a specified view.

  • My bookmark folder names keep changing, sometimes when I make a new folder it will change the name of other folders to the new folder's name, how do I stop this?

I sort all of my book marks into folders with subfolders. Sometimes, for reasons I haven't figured out yet, when I create a new folder or subfolder other folders names will be changed to that same name. Why does this keep happening & how do I get it to stop? This has been happening to me for a while even though I have installed newer versions & updated them, is this just a bug with the newer versions of Firefox? For example, I had a folder with my husbands's name, in the bookmark menu for all his ...I created a new subfolder called phys ed in my education folder ...my husband's folder was renamed to phys ed, also.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Prev. Systems Folder sizes and other folders appear after Arch and Install

Five days ago I did a successful Archive and Install and I now have on my external HD not only the Previous Systems Folder but two other folders, one named 'home' and one named 'net' - both empty. They do not appear on my Internal HD.
    I have two questions:
1- The Previous Systems Folder on my HD is 5.7 GB; the Previous Systems Folder on my external HD is 31.02 GB!! Why such a difference? (And no wonder my Deja Vu backups are taking 5 hours.)
2-Is it OK to trash the empty 'home' and 'net' folders when I finally trash the Previous Systems Folders? Do they have any continuing purpose?

    Dedo wrote:
The Internal system folder and my backup are the same, of course, because I backed up last night.
The Previous systems on the external appear to contain all the same things as my System and my backup System except the dates are older on the Previous files.
I have launched the multitude of applications I have on the Dock and all are fine. So are other apps and the many Utilities I've tried.
Cool. So toss the Previous System Folder.
BTW-I also have a folder on my internal HD just below Applications and Applications (Mac OS9) called BaseSystem.pkg.1637wIVhp. Do you know anything about that? It's 2 MB and has 50+ items in it mostly starting with com.apple.xxxx.enabled. Things like airportPrefsUpdater.enabled, coreservices, kernaleventmgr, reportcrash, periodic-daily, monthly, weekly.enabled.
    No idea.
All carry the same date Jan. 22, 2008 and within a few minutes of each other except SystemVersion. plist which is about 3 mos. old Most are zero KB.
Do you know where these came from?

  • Setting a default folder view for all folders in Windows 7

How do you set up a default folder view of "List" for ALL the folders in Windows 7 including the optical drive?
    Artoo

I just installed windows 7. Are you seriously telling me that i now have all folders with mp3s in them AUTOMAGICALLY (THANKS FOR THE HANDY HELPING HAND THERE MICROSOFT!!!) set to some designers whim of what an mp3 folder "SHOULD" look like?
Well i was going to write a big rant, and indeed did, but then i was doing some more research and it seems like i just made everyones day and solved the problem (partially). Or well THIS guy did:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16694/customize-the-five-windows-folder-templates/
After you’ve clicked OK, visit some of the other folders in your file system.  You should see that most have taken on these new settings.
What we’ve just done, in effect, is we have customized the General Items template.  This is one of five templates that Windows Explorer uses to display folder contents.  The five templates are called (in Windows 7):
    General Items
    Documents
    Pictures
    Music
    Videos
When a folder is opened, Windows Explorer examines the contents to see if it can automatically determine which folder template to use to display the folder contents.  If it is not obvious that the folder contents falls into any of the last four templates,
then Windows Explorer chooses the General Items template.  That’s why most of the folders in your file system are shown using the General Items
    template.
    Changing the Other Four Templates
If you want to adjust the other four templates, the process is very similar to what we’ve just done.  If you wanted to change the “Music” template, for example, the steps would be as follows:
Select a folder that contains music items
Apply the existing Music template to the folder (even if it doesn’t look like you want it to)
Customize the folder to your personal preferences
Apply the new template to all “Music” folders
A fifth step would be:  When you open a folder that contains music items but is not automatically displayed using the Music template, you manually select the Music template for that folder.
Anyways, sorry that explanation doesnt do it justice. I have spent waaay too much time trying to figure this out already. Also that link doesnt say how to 1) copy templates (are they file or registry based?, didnt do research) 2) if you can distable templates
or the automatic re-templating of folders.
THAT is what i want to know! as it is much more maintance then its actually worth...
but once i had set 5 default types to, the exact same thing... it now doesnt matter if it automagically switches it. SUCK IT MS AUTOTUNE!!!
Its bloody hard to frame this question too. What can you say about this? "folder changes to mp3" "customize folder types windows 7" "windows 7 folder changes to mp3" "dont automatically change folders to mp3" "how
to change mp3 details column for good" "automatically change column order win 7 mp3"
The search that actually solved it:
"do not apply default template to mp3 windows 7"
good luck, this worked for me!
EDIT: also i just noticed that neonr already answered this above. i just didnt read it carefully enough. anyways i guess i will leave this and mark his as answer.

  • Firefox sync is rearranging my bookmarks. Those within folders are being moved to mostly one folder, leaving my other folders empty.

With the latest version of Firefox, 29, the sync rearranges my bookmarks. It never did under the old version - old version clunky and a pain, new version doesn't work!
I have tried Aurora, same. I have completely deleted my profile only importing my bookmarks from a backup. As soon as I enable sync, after a while the bookmarks are rearranged.
I keep all my bookmarks on the bookmarks toolbar folder, half a dozen folders containing a few dozen bookmarks. To the right of these I have maybe fifteen of my most used regular sites.
When I enable sync, the folders jump to the right of the links, and all but one of the folders becomes empty of their bookmarks, they all get dumped into one folder?
This is an essential part of sync for me, followed by the extensions, I love FF and don't want to go back to Chrome, where I defected to for a short while. Chrome totally nails the backup process, privacy aside.

    Hi beardybuck
Thank you for your question. I understand that the new versions of Firefox appear to be rearranging the order of some bookmarks. If you can reproduce this from an earlier version of the places.sqlite file let's open up a bug with the steps. However there are some tricks to auto sort them [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/auto-sort-bookmarks/ add on for Auto Sorting Bookmarks] as well as a number of other add ons.
This may be useful as well:

  • Create a DNG file that does not show changes when viewed by others

I am adjusting my RAW Images in Adobe Lightroom and want to export them as DNG without betraying the evidence of my post production efforts- is there a way to save an altered file as a DNG without showing the client which changes I have made when they open and review the files in CS3 (bridge/camera raw)?

    > is there a way to save an altered file as a DNG without showing the client which changes I have made when they open and review the files in CS3 (bridge/camera raw)?
The raw data itself is not affected by the adjustments, only the metadata. This means, that the adjustments you made are recorded in the DNG file in XMP format, which is quite clear-text, like
    > +1.0
       25
       0
       False
       Custom
         0, 0
         22, 30
         51, 68
         128, 128
         206, 149
         255, 255
As this can be seen by anyone, who knows where and what for to look, you need to have ACR record the adjustments in XMP sidecar files (which is a better way anyway, you can archive the original file and the adjustments separate).

  • How can I choose 60x60 pixel in Automator's Set Folder Views?

Hi, I was looking for something that can change Folder Views for several folders at once; I think Automator can help me do that, but I'm stuck on two problems:
    1. It doesn't allow me to choose 60x60 pixel, only 56x56 or 64x64.
    2. It doesn't allow me to set the grid spacing.
Is there a way to choose 60x60 in automator (it is selectable in Finder's Show View Options)? If it's not possible, what's the most likely workaround? Applescript? Or perhaps some 3rd party apps?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Folder View - Folders arranged alphabetically first than all other files ..

    Hi,
is it possible to view folders like windows or linux?
I found nothing in the internet, only a lot of of people having the same problem like me.
I want a folder view, where the folders came first sorted alphabetically than all other files ( not sorted after kind ) arrange alphabetically.
Making a "space" or other symbol like "!" oder "_" is no option for me.
If you use "Pathfinder" or "muCommandr" or "xFolder" you have this view. why is this not possible to select this view out of the box.( This should be no problem or ?)
And please no discussion whether this view makes sense, for me it makes sense for other maybe not.
    With kind regards
    DFens
    PS. i tried this:
    http://fahmiesalleh.blogspot.com/2008/04/mac-os-x-finder-sort-folder-before-file .html
but this makes only the folders on top, the other files where sorted after kind not alphabetically

No. Not something that Apple incorporated.
If you want to report this to Apple, either send Feedback or send bug reports and enhancement requests via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • Windows 8.1 folder view settings not saved

    Hello, Everyone
Windows 8.1 Each folder view settings not saved what i can do.I

What i can do to resolve the issue thanks in advanced.
I don't have any backup no system restore I also try to rest or restore default view settings but none are working for me.

    Hi,
This is default behavior. It is not possible to set Windows Explorer to remember individual folder view settings for folders included in libraries. All libraries and its included folders share the same view.

I'm as a loss. I don't understand why today's folder "2014-06-06" won't let me add "_Kim" to the end. I do it will all my folders since I download from a couple of cameras.

sorry... in PS cc and I closed Photoshop, just in case.... it didn't make

  • How to change to Icon View for some folders but and List View for the rest

I've had a bear of a time with View options in my folders. I'd like some folders to be in Icon view and other to be in List view. For what ever reason if I change the view option of one folder it changes the view option of EVERY folder. What can I do to make this happen?

I was about to ask the same. I'd like to use icon view normally, but list view for folders containing lots of text documents. It looks like the solution is using View > Show View Options, change the folder to the view you want, and then tick the box at the top fo the dialogue for "Always open in __ view".

  • Duplicate folders NAME~1 appear in PSE9 Elements 9 Orgainser folder view

I am running Photoshop Elements 9 (PSE9) in windows7 and I am having a problem of apparently empty duplicate folders in Organiser's folder view (thumbnails on the right, Windows Explorer type folder list on the left).
A new apparently empty folder structure has appeared on in the folder view, identical to my main set of photo folders but containing no thumbnails and with a truncated folder name, eg DigitalPhotos becomes Digita~1 and FamilyandFriends becomes Family~1.  If I delete any of the apparently empty subfolders in the duplicate folders, it deletes all the real jpgs from the hard drive and they show up as a missing file when I click on the proper thumbnail in the proper folder. It would appear to me that the catalog is referring to the same underlying file at two points for my whole catalog.
As the folders are apparently empty there is no ability to use the delete file option and uncheck delete file to delete only from the catalog
    I have tried..
    - catalog optimise
    - catalog repair anyway (no faults found)
    - catalog repair rebuild visual similarity index
    - deleting the thumbnail file from ProgramData\Adobe\etc. then rebuilding all thumbnails (took hours) - I thought this had solved the problem when I checked very late last night but it wasb back when I turned on the computer this morning.  I am now questioning whether in fact this solved the problem or if this was my imagination/ lack of sleep
They clearly shouldn't be there and I am concerned that double-links to the same underlying file will cause me corruption-related trouble.
Any ideas?  I am really concerned the whole thing is going to crash on me and erase endless hours of work.
    Thanks
    Kimberley

  • Problem With Elements 10 Organizer Showing Wrong Files in Folders (In Folder View)

I just got started using Elements 10 on Windows XP and have had some problems with the Organizer. Once it was installed and had cataloged all my photos, I made sure to only move files and folders to different locations from within Organizer. However, now it seems to have lost track of which photos are in which folder. It will "remember" that there are 3 photos in a folder (in Folder View) and only show three photos in that folder, but they will be 3 random photos from a different location. Opening that item shows that thumbnail and referenced file are the same, so it isn't just a thumbnail problem. And looking in the actual folder with Windows Explorer shows that right photos. I'm not sure if I should run an Optimize or Repair on the catalog or if there is something else I can do to fix the problem. I don't need to use Folder View too often, but sometimes I do and I use it to reorganize the actual locations of files. Not sure what would happen if I did it now (with the obvious catalog confusion).
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    torreyindy

Image size.  I have been scanning old 35mm images.  Any image greater than about 8100 pixels causes thumbnails to fail - this sounds like being around 2 to the power of 23 but what a really odd combinatin that is.
8100 pixels? All of my photos are larger than that, and I don't have this problem. Do you mean 8100 pixels on a side? There is a known limitation in PSE that photos above a certain pixel size on a side cannot be displayed in the Organizer. I no longer remember what that size is, perhaps someone else can chime in. Scanning your images to be 8100 pixels on a side would be overkill for me; however maybe for you its an important thing to do.
I have about 10,000 photos in the catalog but need to load up about another 5,000 historic images, and we take about 1,500 images per annum.
This is not a problem for PSE.
I have played with databases, so if i can get into the organizer database (at least to do backups), ideally with Access, that would be brilliant.  Any suggestions?
If you are going to play with the database through Acess, I think you will fail. I believe that PSE uses SQLite as its database, so you have to use SQLite to view the contents. If you are going to do this, work only on a copy of the database. As this is a long-standing bug in PSE (since at least PSE6), and no one that I know of has found a workaround, and people have reported that the rest of PSE behaves as if the photos are where they are expected to be, my guess is that the bug is in the way PSE displays the photo location in folders. And if that's the case, that the database is correct and its only the display that is incorrect, then there's really nothing you can do to fix that; monkeying around with the database itself won't help.
whereas I had complete confidence in Adobe products being a long time Photoshop fan, I am now taken aback, so any help would be much appreciated.
I agree with you, this is a shame that PSE has this problem and it has gone unfixed since PSE6. Your choices are:
use tags and captions and notes to organize in Thumbnail view, and not use Folder Location View
stop using Organizer, use your operating system to browse your folders, only use the PSE Editor
switch to Lightroom, which has a quality Organizer (called the "Library Module") that doesn't seem to have this particular bug, and in general seems very solid, behaves well and is relatively bug free. (Lightroom 3 currently on sale in the vicinity of $79 (USD) as the anticipation is that Lightroom 4 will be released soon)
switch to other organizing software, there are many, but I make no recommendations as I have tried only PSE and Lightroom

  • Bookmarks save only in 'recently bookmarked' folder & can not be moved to other folders

I can no longer save bookmarks to a designated folder - they go only to 'recently bookmarked' folder and can not to moved to other folders- when attempting to move them to another folder, they appear in the designated folder list but when I return to the main browser page, they are not listed. They are still in the 'recently bookmarked folder' only. I have attempted to save bookmarks many times since, with no success.

Those bookmarks should be located in one of the root folders.
If you click the star in the location bar then the page will be bookmarked in the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder and the star turns yellow (blue on Mac) to show that.<br />
If you use "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" then the bookmark will go to the "Bookmarks Menu" folder (you need to confirm that).
"Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" and "Recent Tags" are examples of so called [[Smart Bookmarks folders|Smart Bookmarks folders]] and are not real existing folders.
    * Such smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores the bookmarks and the history in Firefox.
    * Bookmarks or history items that show up in a smart folder list are stored elsewhere in another folder and any changes made are applied to the real bookmark or history item.

  • How to Get A Default Folder View That Overrides Other Settings?

Hi Thanks for checking my question. Now I have a default folder view that display things nicely every time I open finder. But whenever I attach a external drive or a card reader or connect to a networked drive, my default setting is overridden by all the previous folder views I had for those hard drives/cards/network locations. Is there a way to use my folder view settings in the highest priority, so that whatever I opened in finder (local, external or remote) will show itself in the same manner?
    Any enlightenment is appreciated.

Actually the view I get from opening a folder seems to depend on HOW I opened it as well. If I clicked finder on the dock and navigate to my Downloads folder I get the view I want, but if I opened Downloads folder by clicking its dock icon (as a stack I guess?) the view is the same old view I got before I changed my default folder view. How can I fix this so I may have a very consistent-looking finder window?
    Thanks.
