MacPro 2013 - Windows - ext. Dell Displays

Hi i plan to buy a MacPro and also a new Macbook Retina 15"
but i have some questions bevore i will buy the Mac`s , maybe you can help me !
I have to use also Windows and with my Mac Air`s and Mac Book 17" i face a lot of problems with external Displays !
quick infos :
example : nomaly the MacBook 17" ( ATI 6750M ) should be able to adress 4 external Displays ! But in combination with the intel HD 3000 the Mac Book 17" are only able to adress 1 external Display ( + the internal Mac Book Display ) . Thats totaly horrable for me ! ( Windows7 x64 ) also i face a lot of problems with OSX with ext. Displays.
Now as i write bevore i plan to buy new devices and its a lot of money i want to invest.
1. The MacPro offer 6 Thunderbolt2 Ports
- is it possible to connect to each of this Ports 1 Display ?
- how many Displays would be possible under Windows ?
min. i have to use are 3 Dell Displays maybe 4 ( i have 5 Dell 2410 )
2. about the MacPro 2013 and Windows
- i read on apple website : only Windows 8 are supported ? is this right ???
or i can also úse Windows7 on Bootcamp !?
3. This now a question about the MacBook Retina 15" highest config.
- can i connect 2 external Displays under Windows ?
- this Mac offers 2 Thunderbolt2 Ports ( each on 1 TB-Port ? )
Thanks in front for your help !

I couldn't tell you about the MacBook Pro (perhaps someone on that forum would be able to answer).
As far as the Mac Pro is concerned, the short answer is yes you can connect up to six displays.  Here is a support doc from Apple that tells you the specifics of using displays under Windows 8 via Boot Camp.
As far as only supporting Windows 8, that's correct.  No, you can't run Windows 7 under boot camp, the issue is that there aren't any Windows 7 drivers for all the brand new hardware in the new Mac Pro.
I hope that helps - good luck!

  • Macpro 2013 multiple monitors

I have 2- 24 inch monitors connected to my MacPro 2013 through two mini display ports (dvi)
I just bought a 24 inch Monitor that connects through HDMI.  I connected it to my MacPro and it now only sees one dvi display.
I unplug the HDMI and then it sees 2 monitors again... What's happening & how do I get it to see:
2 DVI displays and One HDMI display.
I did search.. but not much came up with this config

Can I connect a DVI display?
Mac Pro supports DVI displays using Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapters. Use a single-link DVI adapter such as the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter for DVI displays with a resolution up to 1920x1200. Use a Dual-Link DVI adapter such as the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter for resolutions up to 2560x1600.
Mac Pro supports a total of two single-link DVI displays. If you connect a third DVI display using a passive adapter or a display via HDMI, it will cause one of the three displays to become inactive.
Can I connect more than 2 DVI or HDMI displays?
Mac Pro supports a total of two DVI or HDMI displays when connected via the built-in HDMI port or using the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. To connect additional DVI displays, use an active DVI adapter such as the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter. You can connect up to six active adapter DVI displays. This requires a powered USB hub since Mac Pro offers four USB ports and you will need six to connect them all.
If the resolution of the DVI monitors is less than 1020x1200 then yo can get a simple active adopter, you do not need the $99 dual-link adopter

After Security updation of Windows 7 in Boot Camp (Mac Book Pro with Retina Display) on 13-Nov-2013, Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets are not working properly.
This is boot camp problem, because in other normal notebooks (e.g. SONY VAIO, Lenovo with Windows 7) the gadgets are working normally.
I am attaching the screen shot of Desktop Gadgets and Security updates of Windows 7.
    Kindly solve this issue ASAP.

Have you reinstalled the latest Boot Camp Windows 7 drivers, just in case Microsoft overwrote some of them during the Windows 7 security update?

  • How do I get Windows 7 to display in Target Display Mode on IMac

I am increasingly frustrated by my inbability to get my Mac Mini running Windows 7 to display on my late 2013 27" IMac using Target Display mode.
    My setup:
    1.  IMac 27" Late 2013 running OSX 10.9.2 with all the latest drivers as of Mar 7, 2014.
    2.  Mac Mini Server Mid 2011 running Windows 7 SP1, 64bit, all the latest Windows drivers as of 3/7/14, using the latest BootCamp Drivers for this machine, ver 5.1 downloaded 3/5/14 to this machine using Boot Camp utilities in its OSX mode.
    3.  Connected via Apple Thunderbolt cable.
    My process is as follows:
    a. Turn on the IMac, boot up in the  normal manner, preparing it to run in Target Disk Mode in OSX.
    b.  Turn on the MacMini boot up via BootCamp,  in the normal manner in to Windows 7.
    c.  When Both machines are on and connected via their Thunderbolt ports, I enter cmd-F2 on the IMac keyboard to enter Target Disk Mode.
    Nothing happens.
I use this IMac to display my MacBook Pro in OSX, so I know it is working, but I can't see where the problem is.
I have reviewed all of the Apple support information and followed it explicitly, to no avail.
When I have called the Apple support team, I get little help, they assert that they can't troubleshoot because it is not all Apple hardware/software (everything including the Thunderbolt cable is Apple except for the Windows OS)
    Any suggestions will be welcome...
    Thanks!

I have finally achieved some clarity on how Target Display Mode works, or rather doesn't work.
And I have been mistaken in some of my prior comments.
Target Display Mode is a function of the host machine, at this point only the IMacs.  And it is only available when the host machine is running OSX.
But the most recent Thunderbolt versions of the IMac have been significantly dumbed down in this functionality.
The prior generation of IMacs whose video was supported through the Mini Display Port supported almost any input from a Mini Display Port compliant Computer through the use of various mechanical adapters, and certainly from any Mac Hardware or software combination.  It was a very versatile setup, and the IMac in this manner could serve as an absoloutely beautiful monitor for a wide variety of hardware/software combinations.
When the current version of the IMac was deployed using the Thunderbolt ports for input for external video, we apparently left a world of standards based video input and entered the world of Apple proprietary video.
The current model of IMacs with thunderbolt video have a very limited functionality in Target Display Mode compared to those of us who have used it previously. and it only functions when the client machine is running OSX.
No other video input from any source will display.
I am not quite clear on the reasons one would want to display OSX on an OSX native machine, but you can do it.  I guess MacBook Pro or Air running OSX will now display on the IMac if that is your need.
Likely the most likely need for Target Display Mode for the rest of us is to run Windows on an external machine and display the video on the IMac, as we have been able to do with the prior generations of IMacs for several years now.
Apple has been unwilling to distribute the technical specifications of its video input requirements in Target Display Mode, (other than to assert it requires OSX), and these technical specifications appear to be proprietary.
I have personally unsuccessfully  tried to  display the output from both Windows 7 and a Windows 8 machines running from a Windows thunderbolt port into  a thunderbolt port on a current model IMac using Target Display Mode.
Unfortunately, there are still a few applications that won't work in Mac world and require a native Windows machine.  My current need is to run Dragon Naturally Speaking via Citrix to a remote Citrix server and a Windows app.  Parallels and VMWare Fusion do not work, nor does the OSX version of Dragon Dictate function via Citrix.  So I am stuck.
I hope that Apple, so long a leader in technology, will restore the functionality it abandoned when it embraced thunderbolt as its only video iniput in Target Display Mode.
    Thanks!

  • Trouble with Dell display

I have a Dell LCD display which I have connected to my Macbook with a MiniDisplay Port to DVI converter, and then a DVI cable running to the display. My computer seems to acknowledge the display, but the display reads "Cannot display this video mode, change computer display input to 1360 x 768 @ 60Hz". When I go to System Preferences > Displays > Gather Windows, I can see the settings for the Dell display. They are the correct settings, the same as above.
Is there anything I am doing wrong or need to change to get the display to work? I would not like to mirror the displays, I would like to have it as an extended desktop.
    Thanks,
    Collin

Ok I solved it, and I'll post how because I see this issue everywhere on the net since I've been searching and there hasn't been a working solution. The problem is with the display, not the Mac. (Should have known).
In the Dell's menu, I scrolled to Setup, DVI Settings, and changed "Source" from "Video" to "Auto"
I now see my apple's background and can use the display as an extended desktop.

  • After Disconnecting AirPlay Mirroring, my Ext. Display Resolution Does Not Change!

Im on Latest MBP 15, using Apple TV3 and DELL 27' Monitor as a main display.
When Im trying to play video via AirPlay + AppleTV as a Mirroring or Extended Display, it does change main resolution of my DELL ext. Display from 2K to 1080p... And after that I can return my native DELL resolution ONLY after Rebooting (even several times).
DELL is connected to MBP with mini D-port to D-port cable, ClickTronic (good and expensive one).
Is there any ideas how to fix that?
    Thanks.

Sounds like an OSX issue... try posting to the appropriate Mac forum.

  • MacBook Air (Mid 2013) Windows 8 via Bootcamp

    Hey guys,
Just wanted to know if there was anybody who was able to  install Windows 8 (or even Windows 7) on their new MacBook Air.
I heard from somebody that installing Windows via bootcamp was different for this model.
First of all,he said that you are unable to install Windows 7/8 with a CD--although it is possible, he said that you will incur with some prolems during installing, he said the trackpad and keyboard will be not functioning.
Anyways, there were many other problems he told me...
Anybody installed it? Were there any problems?

Well you must actually say what you mean. DVD or 8GB flash drive. Whether you have a USB-DVD Apple SuperDrive or something else.
BCA should walk you through. And, it has instructions! a guide to read and printout.

    FAQ http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5639
How can I install Windows 8 on an eligible computer?
Use the Boot Camp Assistant. The assistant will partition your internal hard drives and install Windows 8. For more information on Windows 8 installation, see the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide.
Can I use an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8?
Yes. Download and install the Boot Camp 5 Support Software before attemping the upgrade by using the Boot Camp Assistant in OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3. Alternatively, you can manually download the Boot Camp 5 Windows Support Software here.
When I do an upgrade install from Windows 7 to Windows 8, an "Uninstall USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver" message appears. What do I do?
Do not click on Uninstall. Click the back button and Cancel the upgrade. Download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software by using the Boot Camp Assistant in OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3, or click here to download them. Then, try the upgrade again. See this article for more information.
After upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8, Thunderbolt devices are (not) being recognized when I connect in. How do I fix this?
Disable the Windows 8 Fast Boot feature to allow Thunderbolt devices to be recognized. See Boot Camp: Thunderbolt devices not recognized after Windows 8 upgrade for instructions.
Is there an OS X version requirement to use the Boot Camp Assistant to download Boot Camp 5 Support Software?
You need OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 or later installed to download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software (Windows drivers) using the Boot Camp Assistant. After upgrading, click the Go menu and choose Utilities. Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the onscreen instructions. You can download the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide.
Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. For a complete list of Windows OS support, click here.
    Model-specific Questions
I receive a "Free up space on Drive C" message when I try to do an upgrade install from Windows 7 to Windows 8 on my MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2012).  Why am I seeing this?
There is not enough free space available to do an upgrade install with the 64 GB SSD configuration. Delete the Boot Camp partition and do a full install instead. See this article for more information.

  • Home window does not display properly

When I first sign on to Firefox, the home window (Google) is displayed too far to the right of the screen to use. The only fix I have found for this is to slightly re-align the screen by moving the tab in the bottom right corner. This alignment problem is not critical, but is irritating since the screen must be re-aligned for each signon.

  • Mac Mini and the Dell Display

Has anyone ever used the Mac Mini with a Dell Display? Specifically, the Dell SP2309W. If so, how well the two work together? Thanks in advance!

I bought one of these when they first came out. It's a nice monitor but the camera has been a bust. It just won't work reliably. Maybe the firmware has been improved since when I bought mine. But if you care about the camera and mic working, you should investigate further to make sure it's working better than it is on mine.

  • Photoshop window does not display unless connected to external monitor

I use a MBP connected it to an Apple Cinema Display used as an external monitor (not a dual display) when in my studio.
When I use Adobe Photoshop CS 5 without the monitor the image window does not display on the MBP. If I plug the external monitor in, the window is displayed correctly on the MBP. Photoshop is opening and "displaying" the image window offscreen. Nothing gets it back onscreen, except plugging in the external monitor.
I often use Photoshop away from my studio so this is a big problem. PShop is essentially unusable unless connected to an external monitor.
    Is this a known issue?
    Any workarounds?
    Any ideas?
There is a previous discussion on this topic from January 2012, but it remains open and unanswered. Hoping there are some new ideas. Thanks for the help.

The MacOS still thinks the second display is available and valid -- so Photoshop puts the documents on the last used display and the OS doesn't give any errors.
Once the OS notices the change in display configuration, Photoshop should go back to the main display and force images and dialogs back to the main display.
Applications rely on the OS for the display configuration, and sometimes the OS gets confused or holds onto outdated configurations a bit too long...

  • The window title bar displays incorrectly after publishing a flash file.  Captivate 4

When I open the .htm file after using the Flash option to publish, the wrong title displays in the title bar at the top of Internet Explorer's window; instead it displays a former file name.  I was told that the window name is determined by the field located here: File> Document Info> Project Name; however, this is not the case on my PC.  My coworker is able to publish it correctly, but I am not.  The first picture below is the IE title bar and the second is where (I think) that title bar pulls from, Project Name.  Please notice that mine differ.  Any suggestions?

I've run into this issue in CP4 as well though I've never been sure why it happens. It looks like you're opening the swf through a browser to so, for want of a solution, the easiest workaround is the edit the html file.
open it in a text editor such as Notepad.
Five or six lines down you'll find the title element which defines the title as it will display in your browser titlebar:  <title>This text is the title that displays in your browser title bar</title>
Just change the text the the title you want and save the html file.
If you go with this solution, I suggest that when you are publishing the project again you deselect the option "Export HTML" in the publish wondow. Otherwise you will have to edit your html file each time you publish.
    Hope this helps.
