Macpro 3,1 GPU requirements for Photoshop CC, Video Editing 4K
Hi -
I'm looking to upgrade my paltry 512MB graphics card in my MacPro 3,1 2008 2.8 8-core to handle Photoshop CS5, CS6, CC, as well as Final Cut/Premiere 4K editing. Most if not all GPU reviews are focused on gaming performance but I'm just interested in getting enough GPU performance for the above applications. I'm hoping to spend at most $250 for a graphics card but I'd obviously be happier to spend half as much if it's all I need. I've been focusing my attention on the GTX 650 up to the GTX 770 cards. Anyone have any helpful guidance on the matter?
Thank you in advance!
PS I'm currently running 10.6.8, but also have a Mavericks partition, all on an SSD drive, 14GB RAM.
You are in serious need of RAM as well.
PCIe SSDs can help as well with CS6 for your scratch volume or for Lightroom and Aperture.
10.8.5 did have support for PC cards - have you talked to folks at Netkas.org and MacRumors forum for Mac Pro as well as looked at test results Barefeats.com did on GTX 7xx ? back couple years they did a lot of tests of GPUs when the EVGA GTX 680, still popular, and AMD 7950 - both are Mac Edition cards and still being sold.

Hi All,
What are the ports required for the Audio, Video and A/V conferencing when the following clients are enabled for QoS in Lync 2013 server?
Client Type
Port range and Protocol required for Audio
Port range and Protocol required for
Video
Port range and Protocol required for
A/Vconferencing
Windows Desktop Client
Windows mobile App
Iphone
Ipad
Andriod phone
Andriod Tablet
MAC desktop client
Please advise. Many Thanks.Out of the box, 1024-65535 for all of the client ports. :)
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398833.aspx
You'll want to tune your client ports a bit
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204760.aspx as seen here, and then the client ports would use those ranges which is easier to set QoS markings. I'm not sure the mobile clients respect that setting.
Elan's got the best writeup for Windows clients here:
http://www.shudnow.net/2013/02/16/enabling-qos-for-lync-server-2013-and-various-clients-part-1/
However, the marking of the packets is the tricky part. Windows can do it via Group Policy, but for the other clients you'll need to have the network specifically prioritize ports regardless of DSCP markings. You have to do it based on ports
as the traffic could be peer to peer.

Need advice on computer for photo and video editing
I do mostly routine stuff on my home computer (word processing, e-mails, internet, etc), except for photo and video editing (hobby, not professional)
I'm upgrading my 4 year old set up, as it has 2 GB ram, dual core vs quad core, 256mb video card, etc, etc. Better to buy a new rig than upgrade several different components.
Costco has a pretty nice set up in the store (HPE 257 c-b), but for an extra $200, I can order online and get the HPE 170t, which is essentially the same except for 2 upgrades:
-Radeon HD 5770 video card vs Radeon HD 5570
-Two 1 TB 7200 hard drives vs one 1 TB 7200 hard drive
My question is this.....is it worth the extra $200 to get the better graphics card and the dual hard drive set up? Will it really make that much of a difference in the performance? I'm thinking it will, especially the ability to set up the 2nd hard drive as my scratch disk.
For what it's worth, both systems have the i7 860, 8 GB ram, and Windows Home Premium 64 bit.
Thanks. In very general terms, the requirements for Video will exceed those for Photoshop (PS). If you are looking at PrPro CS5, then the video card WILL make a difference, and PS CS5 now takes advantage of the video card, than before.
For PS, the minimum HDD setup would be a 2x system with physical (not partitions) HDD's. Video has more requirements in this area, and I would say that a 3x setup is the minimum. Do read Harm's linked article, as it is the best that I have ever run across.
For the PS setup, just locate the Scratch Disks for PS on your extra HDD's, the ones with your Project and PrPro Scratch Disks.
Enjoy the new computer, and welcome to the forum,

What is the best All in One program for picture and video editing?
Hello i am new to photoshop and would like to really make some fantastic photos and video for my family and friends. I want to add effects to video and Edit photos to the 10th degree. Can someone please recommend an Adobe program. Should i get CS4 extended should i get master suite? Also where can i watch Video Tutorials that start from the basic and lead to the complex. Thanks in advance
What is the best All in One program for picture and video editing?
There is no such thing. If there were, nobody would bother writing different applications. If you are primarily focused on still image editing and video, Adobe Production Premium is the way to go. You can find any number of tutorials just by searching Google and many good ones are linked from the Adobe help systems as well.

Is the Dv7t or ENVY better for gaming and video editing?
Hello everyone!
I currently own a Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition notebook PC and have had it since December 2009. Ever since the beginning, my dv7t has always gotten incredibly hot when playing the simple online game RuneScape, and, quite frankly, whenever I would do... anything. Now, however, it will not turn on past the Windows OS introduction 80% of the time and the wireless detector will rarely work. Instead of sending it in for a massive repair fee, I think I'll just buy a new laptop.
So my question is: Which laptop is better for playing Runescape, video editing with Sony Vegas Pro, and general web surfing, word processing, etc: The Pavilion dv7t or the Envy 17? Do you have any information on how hot they get? I would really appreciate all support.Hi,
Check the configurator as both can be configured with the 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2820QM (2.3 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz.
Split your monitor screen and put on model in each window and walk thru the configurators and pick chose your desired options noting the change in price.

Which project settings for project for Canon Powershot Video Editing?
Which project settings for project for Canon Powershot Video Editing?
I want to edit video taken with a Canon Powershot SD 550 taken in NTSC 640 x 480. When I start a new project, which project settings should I be using? Also when exporting the project to view on a computer should I stick with the AVI or will MPEG or another universal format give me better end quality?Hunt,
This user has two thread topics here that are identical to ones at the forum which I frequent. Early on I downloaded video from the Canon Powershot that he says he is using for the basis of my comments. So, I have put that video through gspot myself. Since the user is going between the two forums (mostly here), I did not want anything lost in the back and forth. The goal is to help attainment of the goal. That is why I am including comments at both locations:
At The Other Forum
Project Settings Thread
http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52299
Rotation Thread
http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52298
The user has gotten back to me on the video rotation issue, thanking me, but telling me that another workflow was identified...and, as I note, generously shared with both sites. I am in the process of personally checking out what he said worked for him in that regard. However, the user has not gotten back to me on the topic of project settings.
So to expedite matters, when you get a chance, could you please check out my comments in that thread? I would be interested in your perspective on the matter and what I wrote.
Thanks.

What are the system requirements for photoshop?
I am trying to download a trial on a Mac and when i go to to download it, i get this message "You are running an operating system that Photoshop no longer supports. Refer to the system requirements for a full list of supported platforms."

The 30-day-trial for Photoshop is free no matter the version (at least for the last couple of versions), as far as I know. -
I have now two MacPro´s: MacPro4,1 (Early 2009/Nehalem) and MacPro5,1 (Early 2010/Nehalem) and I was wondering how to get the best of them for video-editing with Premiere Pro and After Effects (CS6 or later CC) for todays standards.
The specs of the machines:
MacPro5,1
Early 2010 Nehalem
(http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/specs/mac-pro-quad-core-2.8-mid-2010-nehalem -specs.html)
2.8GHz Quad-core Xeon W3530 (256k level 2 cache, 8 MB of "fully shared" level 3 cache)
32GB RAM "1066 MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM" (PC3-8500) modules (4 x 8GB)
ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1 GB of GDDR5 memory is installed in a double-wide, 16-lane PCI Express 2.0 graphics slot.
single 1 TB (7200 RPM, 32 MB cache) Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive.
+ I have added a 480GB SSD-drive via PCIe (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/PCIe/OWC/Mercury_Accelsior/RAID )
The 480GB PCIe SSD-drive is now the boot-drive and gets writes over 500MB/s and reads over 600MB/s testing with "BlackMagic Speed Test"-application. The 480GB SSD-drive that is connected via PCIe-card has also two eSATA ports on it. How could I take advantage of them? Is this just a bottleneck, what would you think. Would I get the same results if I had just Samsung 840 SSD installed with adapter-device to the internal drive bay 2.5" SATAII connections?
What about the graphic card?
What would you suggest to do for the setup to maximize it´s potential (For now it´s working fine)? Would it be good idea ome 7200rpm hard-drives for media and cache storage or do I need that or can I see significant improvements over it since there is still 3 3,5" internal hard drive bays with SATA II connections (and the two eSATA ports).
MacPro4,1
(Early 2009/ Nehalem)
(http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/specs/mac-pro-eight-core-2.66-early-2009-neh alem-specs.html)
- 8-cores: powered by two2.66 GHz Quad Core 45-nm Xeon X5550 (Nehalem) processors with a dedicated 256k of level 2 cache for each core and 8 MB of "fully shared" level 3 cacheper processor.
- 34GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM
-NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512 MB of GDDR3
A lot like the MacPro5,1 but does have a bit different graphic cards and more memory and cores.
Any ideas?jsssi wrote:

First and foremost: keep an eye on that 480G PCI-E SSD that you dumped a lot of money into. Those OWC drives aren't known for their robustness or reliability (OWC folks will argue with that statement. Ignore them). Since OS and apps are easy to re-install, it may not be a big deal. But don't put any of your projects on it, even though it's a fairly quick device.
Second, start adding SATA drives to the other 3 bays. Fill them up with the biggest drives you feel comfortable buying. Make one of them a 10k RPM drive for your scratch space. The others can be 7200RPM drives; since you're limited to SATA2, there's not much use in trying to crank serious disk bandwidth through the system.
Video cards. Get rid of those OEM garbage cards. Drop them into a chipper/shredder, in fact. Contact this guy about getting flashed nVidia cards that will work in both Macs, and will help with Pr and Ae. Dave can sell you a flashed GTX780 that will boot (with grey Apple screen) and run in the Mac just fine. And it'll outperform anything Apple has ever sold for those Mac Pros. -
Certificate Requirement for Lync 2013 Standard Edition
I have successfully run the setup of lync 2013 standard edition now I am stuck due to certificates required for lync 2013. when I generate a csr. it show the subjected urls for that.
hostname.domain.com
sip.domain.com
diali.domain.com
meet.domain.com
admin.domain.com
lyncdiscover.domain.com
lyncdiscoverinternal.domain.com
im.domain.com (External URL)
so if I go for 3 party CA then I need 8 certicate only for internal lync. As I also need to connected federated partner and external user so I need Edge for again I need 3 more certificates
web.domain.com
a/v.domain.com
sip.domain.com
now when I go for these certificate it quit costly and I didn't understand why such certifcates required. can anyone help me to fix such requirement.
Or, what are the necessary url to which I buy 3 party CA rest leave as it is.
I also want to deploy Edge with single adopter as we have only one network so can anyone assist me to proceed it further.
Talha Faraz MalikTo save on the cost of your third party certificates, I would deploy an internal certificate authority to sign certificates for your internal front end. For your third party certificate, you would only need the SANs for the edge and for your
reverse proxy and as Edwin said, this can be a single cert with multiple SANs.
For example, for your edge you would need:
sip.domain.com
web.domain.com
You would not need A/V as this role does not require a SAN on your certificate. On the same certificate, which you could also use on your reverse proxy, you'd likely want the following FQDNs.
lyncdiscover.domain.com
im.domain.com (your external web services FQDN)
meet.domain.com
dialin.domain.com
You may also want to consider your internal web services FQDN and include the following so third party mobile devices can connect without needing a certificate installed:
im_internal.domain.com (your internal web services FQDN)
lyncdiscoverinternal.domain.com
I'm sure that's not entirely clear yet, so feel free to ask more questions or what the purpose of each is.
When you say Edge with a single adapter, you mean a single adapter in a DMZ or internal? You definably want two NICS, both in separate DMZs, but I've managed to get the edge working with a single adapter in a DMZ before. What you don't want is
the edge in your internal network.

Total Bandwidth requirement for 720p 30fps video call to mcu 5300 and P2P call
Hi All,
One of customer purchased 5300 MCU VCSC and VCSE from us.
All infra will be setup in their HQ and all endpoints are from internet. All endpoints will register to VCSE.
customer requirements are 5 concurrent encrypted calls to MCU with 720p 30fps and point to point 10 concurrent encrypted calls.
endpoints are cisco c series endpoints and polycom HDX endpoinds.
They haven't subscribe the line yet. we need to propose the minimum bandwidth requirement to customer.
1) what is the minimum bandwidth requirements to achieve 720p 30fps encrypted call to MCU?
2) what is the total bandwidth requirements for 5 concurrent encrypted calls to MCU?
3) what is the total load of bandwidth requirements for 5 concurrent encrypted calls to MCU and point to point 10 concurrent encrypted calls?
Thanks advance for you answer!point to point 10 concurrent encrypted calls?
Even with a miltisite license installed on the codec to enable the built in bridge on the endpoint, you're only going to be able to connect up to 3 sites max, the endpoint hosting the conference that has the multisite option + 3 others. You'll have to rely on the MCU to host these conferences. -
Best upgrades for smooth HD video editing?
I love video editing and plan on making the jump to HD.
I intended on upgrading to a Quad Core...
but I read somewhere that processors for Late 2008 Unibodies are not upgradeable, bummer!
So, will an upgrade to 240GB SSD and 8GB RAM suffice?
All I want is smooth editing and exporting,
while regularly making the most of Adobe Premiere CS6 and inputing video from a Canon T3i DSLR.
Anyone else using the 2008 unibody for editing HD video?
What adjustments have you given your laptop?
Will a SSD and RAM upgrade suffice?
Your advice is well appreciated
(p.s. I will probably be uprading to Mountain Lion, as well)I have two late 2008 Macbook Unibody.
A 2GHz with a 120GB OCZ SSD and a 2.4GHz with a 128GB Kingston SSD. Both have 8GB DDR3 1066MHz RAM installed.
These are the two Macbooks I use at work - I use Photoshop and Premiere with no issues.
Because of the speed of the SSD and the 8GB RAM upgrade - these Macbooks can keep up with my Late 2011 with 16GB of RAM and 240GB SSD.
So your upgrade plan will have a significant performance boost to what you'll be using it for. -
Photoshop CS6 - Video Editing Facility
Does anybody know if thePhotoshop CS6 (Standard Version) video editor can do the following:-
Steam video from a camcorder
Correct camcorder or camera shake
I rang Adobe Customer Services, who transferred me to the "Sales Department", who transferred me to the "Technical Support Department", who in turn transferred me to the "Video Department" and nobody could answer the above questions.
They couldn't even tell me if the capabilities were the same or similar to Premier Elements 10, so how are they going to sell this latest product, when nobody knows anything about it?
I eventually ended up talking to Customer Services AGAIN, who told me to ask on the Forum - hence this question!
PamHi Pamela,
Photoshop CS6 Video does not include these features. If you'd like these included in a future release you could post this request on feedback.photoshop.com, which would allow other users to vote in support of the request.
Note that in version CS6 the video feature is the same for both Standard and Extended (3D features, however, are still not supported in Standard, including 3D animations). -
Are these specs overkill for music recording/video editing?
I haven't made any purchases yet... I'm still in the planning stages. I just need your opinion on this.
I plan on making high quality recordings using an iMac, Logic (whatever the newest one is), and a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 interface.
I customized my iMac and I'm just curious whether or not these specs are overkill for what I'm trying to accomplish.
27 inch
3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5
Apple Magic Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
Pages
Apple USB SuperDrive
Accessory Kit
total: $2,447.99
I also plan to use this computer for video editing, so if you know anything about good specs for that feel free to let me now if this would be the right amount or too much. However, is this more than enough or overkill for the recording aspect?Totally agree with mende 1 on this.
The 27 inch model is best for what you want to do.
Also, for video editing, you really need the fastest CPU and as much RAM as you can afford.
As I stated, either the 1 or 2GB VRAM GPU will be fine for video work.
If you decide to delve into doing video work and editing, I would, also, recommend at some later date, purchasing a couple of ext. USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt hard drives to assist with the workflow.
Having raw video footage on external hard drives leaves the iMac's internal drive optimized for doing the actual software video tasks by not loading up the internal drive with lots of raw, high GB video footage.
You can, also, store audio projects, iTunes and iPhoto libraries on ext. hard drives, as well.
