MacPro causing distorted video

I am having problems with my MacPro outputting to my TV.
I use a 32" Philips LCD TV as my primary display, and is connected via DVI to HDMI cable. previously i had been using an iMac 20" to connect using the same TV and same cable (with added miniDVI to DVI adaptor). This resulted in no problems at all.
But now with the new MacPro connected instead.....I am getting video distortions occasionally. It looks like the video is not refreshing fast enough and i see a weird horizontal distortion bar run across an area of screen for a second and then its fine again for a while.
Any ideas on how to resolve?
i have SL set to 1080i for screen resolution which should be correct too.

I notice you started another thread with the same question as before (word for word!).

I would ask in Logic Pro Discussion (I couldn't find anything on a quick search) except for:
Video dropouts
Anyone using Mac Pro for more than very light or casual use, I would strongly recommend 4GB RAM. Apple even goes so far as to say that with FCP, it is essential for performance to have a 4 x 1GB (2 x 1GB on each Riser) to enable full 256-bit quad-channel memory bandwidth. The other part, to make good use of four internal drive bays.
Would the Radeon X1900 offer any benefits, though?

  • Why am I getting wavy, distorted video on a DVD made with iDVD?

I made a DVD with iDVD 5 that has wavy, distorted video. It is watchable but you can clearly see that vertical lines are somewhat wavy whenever the camera pans across the scene. An up-down pan doesn’t distort the horizontal lines, however.
The source video file doesn't display this waviness. Also, I created a DVD of the same video using a PC and the resultant DVD didn't display the waviness. The waviness occurs whether the DVD is played on the computer or a TV monitor with a standalone DVD player. From all this I conclude that it has to be a consequence of the iDVD5 burning process.
Here’s some additional information: The PC burned the video from its original MPEG-2 format. The Mac burned the video from a .mov file that I created from the original MPEG-2 file using MPEG Streamclip. (I need to use MPEG Streamclip to restore (actually convert, I suppose) the audio as the source file has AC3 audio that doesn’t play in iMovie or Quicktime.) The resulting .mov file - when played with Quicktime before burning - does not exhibit the waviness, so I don't think the MPEG Streamclip conversion process is at fault.
On the same DVD I also placed a different video from the same source. It doesn’t display any of the waviness that I get from the other video. The only difference between the videos is that this latter video – after the MPEG Streamclip processing - was chaptered in iMovie HD and then exported to iDVD as a .mov file. I’d hate to think that I have to run every video through iMovie to eliminate the waviness.
So is this just an inexplicable defect or is there something that I might do differently to avoid the waviness that I’m getting in this video?

    Robert,
To me, the red flag is that you've created a .mov file from Quicktime for import back into iDVD. A .mov file is generally a smaller formatted movie, typically only 320X240 pixels in size. This size movie, by default, would look perfect when played in QT. But, to go back to iDVD or iMovie, the movie must be expanded back to a 720X480 size movie (typically the DV stream that these programs want and need), so expanding will cause all sorts of distortion. Can you go back to your original MPEG2 source movie and get the movie info on it? You should be able to see the original size. If it is something like 640X480 or 720X480 then use QT to create a .DV file. This will maintain the original size.

  • Distorted video after importing to iMovie 09

    Please HELP!
After converting a video into .mp4 format (that i can edit it in iMovie 09) and importing it to iMovie 09 I get completely distorted video; the picture is squeezed & the sound is not synchronized.
Before i made a lot of similar videos & everything was ok.
When I try to use precision editor, it doesn't help that much, i still see bad syncr. of sound and bad picture.
Please help me, cause the video is great & i need to edit it.
Am i using the wrong importing or converting format?
If so, which do you recommend instead?
The one I always use is: APPLE TV MPEG-4 720x432 (*.mp4)
These are the properties of the converted video:
    Video ID: 0x2
    Format: xvid
    Resolution: 720x432
    Frame rate: 30.00 fps
    Bit Rate: 1501 kbps
    Total length: 00:25:15
    Audio ID: 0x1
    Format: AAC
    Sample rate: 48000 Hz
    Channels: 2
    Bit rate: 127 kbps
Is there perhaps just a simple trick that I can use so that it automatically fixes this problem?
    Any answer is welcome!!!
Please be fast with the answer!!!

  • Distorted video - too wide

I have posted about this on Crackberry.com.  But maybe should bring it up here.
The main problem is that when viewing a video on my Z10, images are stretched left to right and so people are wider than normal and also objects like buildings, etc also are too wide.  It is less noticeable in landscape screens.  Upon a suggestion I received today, I opened the same video in the Z10's Browser and the video is NOT distorted.  But I think that the app should work properly.
Here's some extracts from the thread:
    http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-z10-f254/distorted-video-too-wide-849144/
I copied a homemade mp4 file to the z10 of one of my vacation trips (I create a dvd movie from the digital photos). The image is "widened" and frankly I don't need any help in the WIDENING area. It seems to show correctly on my PB and on my computer. But on the Z10 it is wide. Pinch does not HOLD - bounces right back to wide.
There does not seem to be a setting to alter this behavior or appearance. If not connected to the tv, the DISPLAY/hdmi setting is grayed out.
I just created a new video. Since the phone was going downstairs, I copied the mp4 video to the phone. Plugged it into my tv but, once again, the images are distorted - too wide. So the screen is spread left to right and people are too wide. The effect is less noticeable on Scenery but you can see it for buildings and such. And, it is not just on my TV but it is also evident on the Z10, itself. So, the z10 appears to not be displaying the image or video WIDTH correctly.
I then copied the same video to my Playbook (another BB device) and the video is fine and NOT DISTORTED.
I am still on the original Verizon bb10.1.xxxxxxxxxxxx OS.
Any idea if there is a setting on the phone that I am missing.
**bleep**! I had not thought about opening the video in the Browser. You are RIGHT - the video proportions are correct when opened in the Browser. So this is a definite bug in the Video app's software or settings. Of course, one should not have to go into the browser to view videos because the app is BROKEN.
I wonder if Kalemsoft or other video apps performs correctly?
When I first posted the thread, I did not know if it was my desktop software's coding or resolution or .... So I burned off the video in format after format to no avail. I am somewhat surprised that no one else has raised this issue. Maybe I will take it to the official bb forum.

  • X300 with Distorted Video With USB Port Replicator

I have 2 X300s using the enhanced port replicators. The video on these two machines were fine for the last 2 months until last week. The video is distorted while connected to the VGA port on the replicator, but fine when connected to the onboard video. I replaced the port replicators and that seem to resolve the issue for day but the distorted video came back. Has anyone encountered this and is there fix? Both machines are on XP.

    Hello Rudi,
Thank you so much for the reply.
We tried today another T440 laptop with 64bit OS and as mentioned by you, we figured out that the conflict is happening between Intel Graphics 4400 driver with USB replicator.
When I done an uninstallation of the updated Intel Graphics and the USB replicator works fine.
As the laptop will be provided to HOD, so we will be going for a purchase of a replicator with good compatibility with 64 OS and intel video card.
    Appreciate your reply.
    Good day ahead.

  • Distorted video after export

    Hello.
I have exported a video using AVCHD mp4 format. 25 fps. 1280x720 px. Aspect "Square Pixels(1.0) 1:1. Both tried CBR and VBR. With target bitrate 1.6 Mbps. See the attached pic for settings. And also see the distorted video problem I have. Can you please help me with correcting the export settings? Thanks.

The image of the lady shows interlace artifacting and that doesn't make sense since the export was progressive and that should deinterlace the footage. One thing to check, I see that Aspect Ratio is set to "Custom", this ought to be 16:9 so please try that. Also just noticed "TV Standard" is set to "NTSC", should be "PAL" for 25fps video.
Perhaps you should take a step back. What is the intended delivery format? There are a ton of H.264 presets and most of them willl yield good results. You have everything customized and that is likely the issue. I would start with a decent preset and see what that does before you change things around.

  • IMac G5 Distorted Video (Possibly Capacitors)

This is the main story you can skip this if you want to get straight to the problem: Hi, I got an iMac G5 (1st Generation 17-inch 1.6ghz PowerPC no isight) from my dad's friend and he said I could look around inside. He said he already looked around and switched around the ram etc. So I booted it myself and got a blue screen, did a PRAM reset and rebooted it about 10 times. I got the distorted video to look OK. (I am using some third party power cable, and a windows keyboard and mouse.) So then I held down my "option" key (Alt) and booted from a tiger cd. I was able to install it, but when I boot I can only boot from safe mode. I still get distorted video but you can still kind of see what is on the screen. If I don't boot from safe mode I either get a kernel panic when booting or when loading OSX, or I get a blue blue screen. If I try to put it asleep it crashes and if I leave it alone for just a little while it crashes. I tried an SMC reset, didn't work. I did command option o f and reset everything, didn't work. Also OSX wont detect the built in speaker, bluetooth, or headphone jack. The fans also randomly go FULL THROTTLE if it froze or if there was a kernel panic END OF MAIN STORY
I looked into to this a little bit more and found out it is MOST likely to be the capicitors so I was like huh. So I unscrewed the 3 bottom screws popped open the back and then THERE IT WAS! 2 blown capacitors. They were leaking the electrolyte fluid or whatever. I this picture I found of my same model with the blown capicitors, I circled the two blown capacitors I found. (this is not my picture) http://i.imgur.com/aFArv.jpg and so yea, I ordered two of the ones 1800hu or nu idk 6.3 V on Amazon. My dad's friend (the same guy who gave me this) has a soldering iron and will solder them in. I just wanted to see if this COULD be the problems or some of the problems could be related to other things. Thanks.

That is highly likely to be your problem.  They recommend replacing ALL the capacitors while you're doing it.  You have to disassemble the entire iMac while doing the soldering (from what I've read, I've never undertaken the job myself), and you can buy kits for under $20 (google G5 capacitor kits).  I think they also recommend reapplying the thermal paste to the processor.
It will probably need a new PRAM battery while you've got it open.
Of course there is no guarantee that the RAM and Hard Drive are okay, but they probably are.
    Good luck.

  • Youtube is causing my video drivers to crash

I have a 21.5-inch Imac that I purchased mid 2012. I have created a windows 7 partintion on my computer using Bootcamp. Occasionally, Youtube will cause my video drivers to crash, which also causes my computer to crash. I have updated as much as I could with flash, windows, and my bootcamp drivers, but it still happens. I believe this is due to outdated video drivers, I happen to know that there has not been an update to the bootcamp video drivers since 2011, while AMD has a far more recent driver update. If anyone knows another solution to this problem please let me know; however, I believe the problem is the outdated video drivers. Apple very much needs to remedy this situation, even if it is nt causing my specific issue.

OK we all have acknowledged the problem, now are there any solutions out there besides switching to firefox? Does Safari have a Flashblock extension, are there any at the ap store, is there a work around or any other ideas? I do have one, if there are no other fix, then we must boycott youtube for the summer and try youtubes compitition. I know of three, never really gave them much of my time though. But seeing as how I'm being forced to by YouTube, I'm sure their compitition would appreciate their, umm, sporting gesture in forcing us to switch

  • Bass causing distorted so

Hello,?I have a X-Fi Elite card with the Gigaworks S750 speaker system. For some reason lately i have been having problems with my bass. Normally the bass would be excellent, crystal clear, etc, but now it seems to be very very deep, almost too deep, and it causes distortion in whatever i am playing because of this. I have looked high and low through all my settings, and nothing i can think of has changed. I even reset all settings to default and tried again, to no avail. It's getting very annoying now, i even had to turn off Crystalizer because turning that off seemed to reduce the problem very slightly. Has anyone else had this problem? I would love my old sound back again.

Disable the "Memory Remapping" and "Disable execution bit" features in your BIOS if you can. This will disable the PAE kernal in Windows and should rectify the issue 00%.

  • Does moving 'Volume Adjustment' slider up (to the right) cause distortion?

Bought a lot of songs on iTunes and also imported several hundred CDs. Want to adjust the volume on some to boost the quiet tracks and lower the loud ones so everything plays at basically the same volume. Don't want to use Sound Check. Does moving the "Volume Adjustment" slider up (to the right) under "Options" in "Get Info" cause distortion? Hoping it's more like what the name says - just a boost to the playback only volume for that one track and doesn't cause the original digital recording to go into the red.

    Check out -> iVolume
    Works great.
Does moving the "Volume Adjustment" slider up (to the right) under "Options" in "Get Info" cause distortion?
    It can easily do this.

  • 640x480 forced to 720x480 causing blurry video

Ok, after a few head bangers, the issue fo the blurry seems to come form the fact that PRE does not (not that I can find) allow for a start up template to be 640x480?
So what does this mean? It means that the clostest I can get is 720x480 and any video shot at 640x480 is going to be stretched to 720 wide, causing the video to instantly be blurred!
Under the Interpret Footage (Organize > Project > Right-Click Footage) I can change the Pixel Aspect Ratio, but there is NOTHING that models the 640x480 format?
So I created an image that is 720x480 on CS4 and inserted it. This image has boundary markers for a 640x480 center.
I then lay in the 640x480 video clip and nothing is lining up?
Both are resized and both are becoming blurry because of this resizing?
    Please advise.

If you've got your Monitor zoom magnification set to 100%, you are indeed seeing a 720x480 pixel image, cs. Remember, your computer monitor is likely set to something like 1280x960 or something -- so 720x480 is only about 1/4 of that screen real estate.

  • Last op system update on mine/my wife's iPad causes all video apps (Netflix/Hulu/CBS/History,etc) to NOT flow uninterrupted; constant breaks

Last op system update on mine/my wife's iPad causes all video apps (Netflix/Hulu/CBS/History,etc) to NOT flow uninterrupted; constant breaks.  Type problem into Safari and many folks having same problems wig Hulu and other video/TV apps crashing repeatedly!  It's EXTREMELY irritating and aggravating!   The apps didn't crash like that until AFTER the latest operating system update for iPads was pushed/downloaded.

Among the alternatives not mentioned... Using a TiVo DVR, rather than the X1; a Roamio Plus or Pro would solve both the concern over the quality of the DVR, as well as providing the MoCA bridge capability the poster so desperately wanted the X1 DVR to provide. (Although the TiVo's support only MoCA 1.1.) Just get a third-party MoCA adapter for the distant location. Why the hang-up on having a device provided by Comcast? This seems especially ironic given the opinions expressed regarding payments over time to Comcast. If a MoCA 2.0 bridge was the requirement, they don't exist outside providers. So couldn't the poster have simply requested a replacement XB3 from the local office and configured it down to only providing MoCA bridging -- and perhaps as a wireless access point? Comcast would bill him the monthly rate for the extra device, but such is the state of MoCA 2.0. Much of the OP sounds like frustration over devices providing capabilities the poster *thinks* they should have.

  • Video Captioning Causes Major Video Distortion

    So,
This is a good one. I have a number of videos in an
interactive program I'm doing. It's standalone, and the videos are
vertically oriented. They'll play back on an LCD screen flipped on
it's side and displaying 768x1366. I have it running in flash
vertically so that when I play it back on the kiosk, I rotate the
display 90 degrees in the display driver. I tried to program this
so it ran on it's side, but the transitions and other effects I was
doing were much choppier for some reason, so I decided to just go
with rotating the display. At any rate, it was all going well until
we realized that we needed captions on the screen. I did this in
AS3, so I loaded up some XML files, set the caption target to my
own text box, and when I went to run the program on the vertical
screens, now all the video looks like static and is distorted. I
removed my customer caption box, and when played in the default
box, it also looks crazy. When I have the display driver set to
standard, it looks fine. And, if I remove the caption component
from the videos, the whole thing plays fine. I can actually see the
videos start to play, and as soon as the captioning kicks in, they
go nutty, and the program stays that way. I should say that the
videos go crazy, but all the graphics in the program are distorted
too, so it's not like the video is the only thing.
I don't really know how to start troubleshooting, and I
imagine I am going to have to caption this stuff a different way,
but I was wondering if anyone had any insight into how the
captioning component works, and why it might cause this type of
issue. I realize this is a fairly specialized thing I am
describing, so there aren't a ton of people who would have
experience with it exactly, but I am not really even sure why the
component would cause this. Thanks folks.

  • Extracted audio caused distortion in video timing

    i need help!
i am making a music video for class.
from the edit menu i chose select all and then extracted audio, so that I could go in individually to each clip and delete the audio i did not need. when i tried to do a test delete and played the clip back the audio was gone like i wanted, but the song and the video were totally out of sync and my computer froze up and just played a bleep of sound here and showed a random clip there.
it took forever to unfreeze. it is still out of sync even after restarting my computer. the audio is still extracted from all the clips but the video and audio are still totally out of sync. I'm thinking if I could just unextract all the audio or revert it back to the original...that would solve the problem, but it will not let me do so?
some of the audio files are still available in my trash including audio for the whole video.
    any suggestions?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
'Extracting' audio just copies it and puts it in an audio track underneath the video, and then silences the original sound within the video clip. So it does two jobs, instead of just silencing the audio.
To silence audio within a clip, just click on the little clock, at lower left, to show the full Timeline view, and then in the Menu at the top of the screen use 'View' and 'Show Clip Volume Levels'. You can then select a clip, and click on the little loudspeaker icon, alongside the volume level "Clip: 100%".
Your audio going out of sync sounds more like iMovie 4 rather than iMovie5/HD. But if your hard disc is close to being full on the iBook, that can cause problems for iMovie.
To fix things, you could try the following:
    (1) As your audio should now be in separate audio clips beneath the video, you should be able to click on and then slide ('drag') your audio clips to line them up with the appropriate video, then use Apple+'L' to Lock the audio to the relevant video.
    (2) As all the original audio remains within the video clips, but it's just had its volume reduced to zero during the 'Extraction', you could select the video clips, and return their volume up to 100% with that little volume slider at the bottom of the screen. When you've done that, UN-TICK (un-check) the little boxes at the extreme right which switches on or off the sound from the audio track(s), so that only the video track is ticked, and try playing the video: all the audio should now be back. If that plays OK, you can then just delete all the separate audio in the track(s) beneath, then Save your project. Then re-tick (check) the audio track boxes again, so that they're not disabled.
The original audio should now be restored, and you can do what you like with it. But it's always better to just reduce to zero any sound you don't want, rather than duplicating it - by 'Extracting' - and then just silencing the original ..and possibly the duplicate. That doubles the work which your Mac has to do during playback ..as it has to keep looking for the separate audio instructions, in its master project file, as well as playing back the video.
So (a) make sure that you've LOTS of spare space on your iBook, and (b) don't strain it too much by giving it too much to do, and (c) things may go smoother if you keep your video projects on a separate, fast (5400rpm or faster) FireWire hard disc (formatted as 'Mac OS Extended' or 'HFS+') plugged in to the iBook, rather than on the iBook's internal disc, and (d) make sure that you have no other programs running when you're editing with iMovie ..as iMovie needs as much of the Mac's attention as possible, and may be sluggish on a slow Mac if there are other programs running.
    Hope this helps..
