MacPro Crash

Hey All,
We have a Quad 3.0 Mac Pro that we are weekly editing an hour long show on. Our projects are ntsc dv projects with the bulk of the footage captured from a Sony DSR 25 Dvcam deck. The problem we are running into is that each of these projects has about 25 - 35 embedded Motion titles that are between 10 - 35 seconds long. The Motion files are pretty simple, text over a lower third alpha channel backgrounds from Digital Juice. When we try to render the project it will progress about half way and then the computer will crash. I've reinstalled final cut studio and have done an erase and install of Mac Os X twice. We trouble shot with Apple support by phone and they ended up sending us a new video card which unfortunately didn't change anything. We took it to the Apple Store and the geniuses ran diagnostics on it and said the hardware is good. It seems the Digital Juice/Motion combination is causing the problem, but we are using different Digital Juice libraries and importing them onto our scratch disk. It's never files from the same dvd's so I have a hard time believing its corrupt assets. The projects are completely independent with all graphics created per project. All updates are current. RAM chips are Kingston 4 x 512 (riser A) and 2 x 1Gb (riser B). I had 3GB and then 5Gb of memory in there, but I read the Apple suggestion of evenly installing the Ram for the Mac Pro and so I changed it to 4Gb. I'm open to any suggestions, pretty frustrated with the whole deal. Hope I included all pertinent information. Let me know if you need other info about the system or projects.

Is your computer crashing or just FCP? I am getting the gray screen with the multiple languages telling me to shut down the computer. Here is my error report for anyone who knows what it means. It does seem like it is referencing video card drivers or something, I don't know.

  • HAVING PROBLEMS WITH OS 10.6.8 PRINTING WITH XEROX PHASER.  MacPro crashes when printer warms up. Does anyone have a solution? 6360 DN

I've been using Macs since 1984.  Have been using Xerox Phaser printers for ten years.  But with the last update to OS 10.6.8 last summer, I've had problems with crashing when printing.  My MacPro crashes when printing via ethernet prot with Xerox Phaser 6360DN or when the printer warms up.  Worked fine with OS 10.6.7.  Internet postings suggest this is a common problem for all Mac users with Xerox Phaser printers.  Apple put out an update to 10.6.8 to address the problem.  I downloaded it but it did not solve the problem.  Have tried all the Xerox drivers along with Apple drivers.  Can't solve the problem.  Xerox says it's an Apple problem.  Does anyone KNOW how to solve the problem?

sorry, just saw that i was accidently in the snow leopard section....i reposted under the correct section. here's the link.

  • MacPro crashes on startup with "GPU hang: Not Implemented" in console.log

Over the weekend my MacPro crashed and would not come back up. It repeatedly reboot with a message that it had crashed in startup and I should press a key to continue. I was able to SSH in and found the following in the dmesg log (sudo dmesg):
    GPU hang: Not Implemented
    Trying restart GPU ...
    GPU hang: Not Implemented

I was able to boot the recovery partition and I am now reinstalling MacOS. I've never seen anything like this, and the reinstall is not going well. Currently the system (which has a 27" cinma display) is showing the apple logo on the grey background, but the apple logo is not centered... I'm about to move the drives into another Mac (we have several of them).
Is this just a hardware problem, or something else?

so you areon Liom? ML? and kack clone if your system I take it.
Dud you reokace and upgrade the graohic card?
    which MacPro modelntear?

  • My MacPro crashed last week. Can I restore my old necessary calendar events that I lost but saved my data on an external HD?

My MacPro crashed last week The Mac repairman transferred all my data to an external HD before deleting and reconfiguring the  MacPro.
Can I restore my old necessary calendar events that I lost but saved to an external HD? Where would I find my old  calendar info on the external HD? I've tried search, but nothing revealed. I really need this calendar info for my business. Many thanks for any suggestions / advice.

You can try a file recovery application like File Salvage - you can download a free trial and it will scan the disk for you and tell you with might be recoverable. Actual recovery will require that you purchase the app. There may be many files with the same or similar names. Always recover the largest file size.
There are other such apps. Search on Macupdate or the App Store

  • MacPro crashes

My MacPro crashes after I have been on about 15min. The screen will give me a message "Shutdown and Restart your Computer".
I have tried the PRAM reset, also tried Disk Warrior program.
Funny thing is it is not doing it all the time. I have not loaded any new programs or hardware.
    any ideas?

If you're getting the message in multiple languages, that's called a kernel panic. It's usually, but not always, caused by a hardware issue, with memory the leading cause.  See this Apple note: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742

  • At only 15 months of age, my MacPro crashed yesterday! Any idea how I can save my hard disk from being destroyed if I hand it in for repair?

At only 15 months of age, my MacPro crashed yesterday! Any idea how I can save my hard disk from being destroyed if I hand it in for repair?

Open it up. Buy a new replacement drive. Install Mac OS. Then give it to them if you still have trouble.
    As for the install failing,
I never do the older "archive and install"
I format and initialize first, even zero the drive, and only then install.
of course all the data is lost.
Data Rescue 3 demo can scan a drive but you need to have setup a 2nd boot drive to work from, AND you would need part of that 2nd drive partition for recovery of data. 30-50GB system partition and 150% the size of the drive you want to recover.
TimeMachine I never adopted or liked but 350% and would only use as secondary backup with cloned copy of your drive.
Backups can be scheduled, run at night or weekend or both, a weekly clone and daily sets.
Disk Warrior 4.2+ is another $100 (DR3 is about same but demo is free to try).
A spare external drive case $30? and TWO hard drives, a replacement and backup/recovery $100 each?
Just some ideas to throw out there....
Bootable clones though you will find are very useful, handy.
I like the small 40GB emergency boot partition - put one on your TimeMachine drive etc.
LION: the one good thinig: it has a recovery mode partition and new Macs have "net install" feature and minimal hardware diagnostic over the internet to do Apple Hardware Test. Lion $30 and might actually want to install it on external.
So DO try installing OS X on one of your external drives - create 40GB volume just for that - if you can please.

  • MacPro crashing video issue?

First appologies as I am submitting this via my iPhone. So forgive punctuation, auto correct issues etc.
I have an older MacPro. It has an updated ati radeon card, recently some odd things have been happening. The monitor gets these artifacts basically a vertical line and three dots. But these are replicated about 100x across the screen in a very semetrical and orderly fashion. Once these appear, I lose control of the Mac. My mouse still can move the cursor.  But the keyboard etc all crash out. I get a perpetual spinning ball of doom.
I took some pics with my iPhone here is one example: http://yfrog.com/h3r57okj
I reset the pram. Reduced the power on the pci slot. Swapped pci slots for the video card. Tested the memory with memtest. Completely reinstalled osx snow leopard on a new hard drive.
The video card is maybe a year old.
    To no avail. Still borked.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks in advance.
    Kizmit

"reduced the power on the pci slot"
Do you mean you used the Expansion Slot Utility to reduce lanes?
In any case, sounds like your card has died or is in it's final days.
Before you go to get another, figure out which Mac you have:

  • Re: MacPro Crashing

Re: MacPro (early 2008); OSX 10.10.1; Processor 2x2.8 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM; Graphics ATI Radeon HD 2600XT 256 MB; two hard drives 1.5TB and 320GB.
    To whom it concerns
My MacPro has bouts of crashing. In which case it produces, but not always, a panic crash report. This has occurred since I updated my operating system to Yosemite 10.10. On one occasion I activated a disk repair from diagnostics which eliminated the red text warning at the time.
Can the crash reports provide the data which itemizes the problem and what remedial action that I can undertake?
Does re-formatting the hard drive present a solution to some of these problems?
    Look forward to a reply.
    Regards
    Steve

  • Original MacPro crashes during Windows XP Install

I have a MacPro rev 1.1 and am trying to install windows xp on a second drive with a 32Gb partition. I've run boot camp 3.02 ( I am using OX 10.6.3) and can see both HDs and the boot camp partition on the desktop. When I try to install windows xp I can hear the drive spin up but then the monitor goes from gray to black and the windows disk is ejected. And there it sits. To get back to Max OS I have to zap the pram then to get the monitor (original Apple flat panel) working I have to unplug the mac and restart. Any one got a work around to get Windows installed?

Then the problem is elsewhere, as that was fixed with SP1.
Or his disk doesn't even contain that level.
However, when pre-partitioned to NTFS even without SP1 should install.
I doubt the problem is his CDrom.
What he needs to do is get http://www.bootdisk.com/ntfs.htm
Run NTFS4DOS and do a checkdisk.
Yes that will solve his problem, as Windows (from 2000 to W7) are to stupid to do a checkdisk when the disk is in a certain state.
And even a Windows bootdisk can't solve it and crashed with the error he has.
Only Linux or NTFS-DOS can do a check disk and restore the error M$-NTFS makes it failing too boot or reinstall.

  • Macpro crashes when use Nikon film Coolscan V ED, after installed the latest autoupdate (18/5/2011)

After I installed the latest auto update for Macpro, I can no longer use My Nikcon film scanner. Every time I try to open the application, I get below error. It worked right before I installed the update. Anyone encountered something like this? I could not find anything from Apple support site neither I can find on Nikon site.

    HI Grant,
Nikon came back to say that Nikon Scan is not supported running in Mac 10.6 and Window 7. It is very disappointing. It worked for me before.
However, I have not done Directory Verify with Disk Utility, and a Repair Permissions yet. I may give a try. Won't it cause other problem if I run Repair Permissions? Because I am using 10.6, I have to run it from DVD. I am only worried it causes more problems.
Thank you very much for your help.
    Regards, hannah

  • Pages 5.1 on MacPro Crashes

Pages consistently yet sporadically crashes. I'm trying to create a document with lots of text and a number of tables, but nothing too cmplicated. Pages suddenly crashes at certain times either by just my typing of a single key or for no reason at all. This is infuriating. I'm running Pages 5.1 on Mavericks OS. Can anyone tell me what is going on and how to work around or fix it?

As many of these discussions show, Pages 5.1 is buggy. The best work around is to trash Pages 5.1 and use Pages 09 (i.e, Pages 4.3).

  • My MacPro crashes when hooked up to my iHome mini pop-up speakers, any reason?

This is the 4th time my MacBook Pro has crashed, each time I was listening to music via iTunes with my iHome mini pop-up speakers connected.  Anyone know what is going on?

Have the same problem. It happens only with the new plugin in Chrome :
    Google Chrome
    14.0.835.202 (m)
    Betriebssystem
    Windows 7 SP1 64 bit
    Flash plugin

  • My MacPro crashes every time, while I'm installing Aperture 3.4

With updating Aperture 3.3 on the MacAppStore my computer shuts down in the last minute (the package was installing).
I tried it again and it was the same experience. So I deleted Aperture and tried it again but it won't work. Now I don't have the App Aperture on my Computer but when I open the MacAppStore there is shown to continue with updating Aperture. If I click on that, the whole package will be downloaded and in the last minute I get the same result.
I tried it with an older Version but it's the same
Hey guys, it would be amazing, if you could help me!

The installer crashes and causes a kernel panic. This does not look like an Aperture problem but more likely a system issue.
The first thing to try: Restart  the system, if you have not done son and reset the PRAM: see
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 When to reset NVRAM or PRAM
Also, you have some non-standard kernel extensions installed, for example "Paralles": Is this a Mt. Lion compatible version? Try to start into safe-boot mode and to run the installer in safe-boot mode:
Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
Are there any diagnostic messages in the Console window, when you try to run the installer?

  • New MacPro crashes from Thunderbolt

I have a new Mac Pro - 6 core / 32 Gb / 512 Gb / OSX 10.9.1 /  Dell monitor - and twice today it has crashed when connecting a Thunderbolt peripheral - first a Blackmagic Ultrastudio and then an external SSD. It freezes, and on reboot hangs at the Apple logo and spinning icon. Nothing else has worked so far short of a clean install. Anyone else has experienced this? Is this a design flaw or just bad luck? Thanks
