MacPro cursor icon corrupt

I have a new MacPro Quad core 2.8GHz system which is displaying a corrupt cursor icon. The cursor pointer has a noisy "grid" of spots extending to the bottom and right of the pointer. The grid size is approximately 5 times the size of the cursor pointer. The noise flickers over time.
I've tried the included hardware test application and no problems were found on the short test. When booting from the test disk, the cursor problem went away.
If I change the cursor size in Universal Access, the noise goes away approximately half way to the largest cursor and returns when I go back to "normal" size.
Changing screen resolution and rotation does not affect the noise. The noise persists.
Any ideas? Bad video? Bad RAM?
Thanks,
Chris

  • Wrong cursor icon - text selection icon over buttons

    Even in Leopard the small flaw that is occasionally getting the wrong mouse cursor icon depending on what's underneath it occurs. In Leopard there's a very easy way to reproduce it, in the Finder open a new window and view it in Cover Flow mode then click the search field in the upper right corner of the Finder window. After this - without moving outside the window - move the cursor to he left over the tool bar buttons. The cursor doesn't change to an arrow. One can even move down "inside" the Cover Flow view and click arrow buttons and drag the scroll bar for moving the view left and right. Cursor is still the text selector.
    In the Mac OS X guided tour this is exactly what happens when John is searching for "bicycle" about one fourth in the movie. For a while he just clicks along on things like everything is normal.
    I wonder - where is Apple's attention to detail when it comes to this?

    This happens on my system as well, it's very annoying!

  • DETT: Set Cursor (Cursor ID) and Set Cursor (Icon Pict) VI Reference Leak

    Hi,
    Using LV 2011 and the Desktop Execution Trace Toolkit to analyze my application, it has identified a reference link in the 2 above stated VIs. It's not a huge deal but is there any possibility I'm missing something here? Whether I use them individually or as subVIs in the Set and Unset Busy Icon VIs, it always report a reference leak. The block diagram is locked so I'm guessing there is not much I can do to correct it, but I just wanted to ask. Is this fixed in later versions? I am not calling this VI continually in a loop or anything, but I do use it quite a bit as my app is pretty user interface intensive.
    Thanks,
    Erin

    What version of LabVIEW are you using?  For LabVIEW 7.x, there was a bug in the Cursor VIs where they would only work with a certain number of created VI windows, after which point they would start returning errors (might have been error 26, I don't recall).  This bug was fixed in LabVIEW 8.0.  If you are using LabVIEW 8.x, I'm not sure what the problem might be.

  • How to change the mouse cursor icon type when mouse moves out of client area ( propertysheet) WTL?

    I got stuck with an issue in property sheet .I want to load different cursor when the mouse position is within the client area and load another when moves out of the client area.
    In the porpetysheet I added four page. In the first page when I click next I am loading cursor of IDC_WAIT type and loading IDC_ARROW when the mouse moves out of the client area.
    In the page class I triggered the event for WM_MOUSEMOVE as follow:
        MESSAGE_HANDLER(WM_MOUSEMOVE, OnMouseMove)
    LRESULT OnMouseMove(UINT /*uMsg*/, WPARAM /*wParam*/, LPARAM /*lParam*/, BOOL& /*bHandled*/)
    if(TRUE == m_bIsNextBtnClicked)
    ::SetCursor(LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_WAIT));
    else
    ::SetCursor(LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW));
    return TRUE;
    This event is getting triggered and absolutely had no issue with this. Similarly I tried adding `MESSAGE_HANDLER(WM_MOUSELEAVE, OnMouseLeave)` this event making an assumption that this will get triggered if the mouse moves out of the client area,  but
    this event did not get triggered at all.If this is not the mouse event to be triggered for mouseleave which event should I trigger?
    LRESULT OnMouseLeave(UINT /*uMsg*/, WPARAM /*wParam*/, LPARAM /*lParam*/, BOOL& /*bHandled*/)
    ::SetCursor(LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW));
    return TRUE;
    Now when I click Next button , **I was actually calling a function which is taking sometime to return** . Before to this function I am loading IDC_WAIT cursor i.e.,
     `::SetCursor(LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_WAIT));` .
    Now when move the mouse cursor on to the non-client area I want to load IDC_ARROW cursor i.e.,
        ::SetCursor(LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW));
    When the moves on to the non-client area I am handling the mouse event in sheet derived class as follows,
    MESSAGE_HANDLER(WM_NCMOUSEMOVE, OnNCMouseMove)
    LRESULT OnNCMouseMove(UINT /*uMsg*/, WPARAM /*wParam*/, LPARAM /*lParam*/, BOOL& /*bHandled*/)
    ::SetCursor(LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW));
    return 0;
    This event is not getting triggered until unless the function in the Next button event is executed.
    I want both of them to be done in parallel i.e, click Next button now hover mouse on the client area, Busy icon should come and when mouse moves out of the client area then IDC_ARROW icon should come.
    LRESULT OnWizardNext()
    ::SetCursor(LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_WAIT));
    m_bIsNextBtnIsClicked = TRUE;
    BOOL bRet = MyFun();
    m_bIsNextBtnIsClicked = FALSE;
    //Until this function(MyFun()) is executed **WM_NCMOUSEMOVE**
    //event is not getting triggered.But this event should get triggered and I
    //should be able to see the change of cursor within and out of client area.
    Can anyone kindly help me to solve this issue.

  • Found a good cursor/icon editor plug-in for Photoshop

    I've been trying to edit cursors and icons, and Photoshop doesn't natively support .ico or .cur file formats.  After being disappointed with the available stand-alone cursor editor programs, I began searching for Photoshop plug-ins.
    The best plug-in I found is ICO (Windows Icon) file format plugin for Photoshop, from Australia.
    I had to research setting the icon "hot spot" in order to have the hot spot at other than the upper left corner of the icon.  This involves resetting the ruler origin.  You need to have the rulers visible, and displaying in pixel units (right click in cursor and select pixel units).
    Drag diagonally from the upper left corner of the rulers to where you want the new origin (0,0) to be. photoshop tutorial- Rulers, Measure tool, Guides, & Grids.I
    I used this new-found tool in CS5 to make a new Windows aero cursor with a transparent yellow circle around the cursor arrow (in order to be able to easily find the cursor location anywhere on my screen), and the tip of the arrow is the hot spot.

    If you have a 64 bit version of windows, there is no more TWAIN in PSE 13, only in the 32-bit version and the mac version.

  • Calendar icon corrupted on laptop(win7andiphone 4s)

    The calendar icon is corrupted on my icloud panel on my laptop (win 7 and iphones). I tried reinstalling icloud on pc..no help..suggestions from one with moderate knowledge(not novice nor expert). Suggestions? Thank you.

    Yes, to sync with iCloud on your Mac you will need to upgrade.
    You can certainly upgrade to Mountain Lion but OS X Mavericks is due out within the next month so it may be worth it to wait. In the meantime you can access your iCloud contacts, calendars, etc... from iCloud.com. Sign in with your Apple ID.

  • Dock Icons Corrupted

    For several weeks now, when I restart I often lose a few dock icons. They turn into question marks or the application icon is replaced by a completely unrelated document icon which opens some image in Preview. I restart more often than I might otherwise because I use Boot Camp for some Windows software that I need for work. I also run the Boot Camp partition from Parallels (and very recently upgraded it to 3.0).
    Programs that vanished recently from the dock (not all at once) included NVu, iMovie HD, Garageband, and iDVD.
    At about the same time, on each restart Preview opens with a particular image file (a screen shot of Preferences showing a black circle around Universal Access).
    I can drag the corrupted icon out of the dock (it vanishes normally) and drag in the application's icon. All is well until my next restart. Then it's Dock Roulette -- which programs will be gone this time?
    I've verified my boot drive with Disk Utility and fixed permissions.
    This began slightly before I installed 10.4.10 combo updater (intel of course). I hoped the updater would cure it, but no such luck.
    MacBook Core Duo, 2 GHz, 2G RAM, 160GB HD   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Sounds really strange. You might want to delete the Dock preferences (com.apple.dock.plist) which can be found at Users/yourname/Library/Preferences. Maybe it's corrupted.

  • Icon corruption and loss of sound?

    I wrote a messenging application in java, think of it like a glorified version of WinPopUp or something similar. Anyway, when it is loaded on a Win2k/XP system (haven't tried it on other operating systems), it appears to be working perfectly until you leave your computer for an extended period of time. You lock the workstation, and come back a few hours later. What I have noticed is when I come back to my station and unlock it, the icons on the application are often corrupted. To try and fix this, I added repaint() calls to JFrame.windowActivated(). Doesn't help. I also noticed that after locking the workstation and coming back a few hours later, that occationally the sound effects stop working for no reason that I can explain. My sound code is rather straight forward:
    public void playSound(String s) {
    InputStream iStream = null;
    AudioStream aStream = null;
    try {
    iStream = new FileInputStream(s);
    aStream = new AudioStream(iStream);
    catch (Exception e) { System.err.println(e.toString()); }
    AudioPlayer.player.start(aStream);
    If I close the application and reload it, the problem goes away. To make matters more confusing, is after the program displays corruption, if you lock the workstation and leave for a few hours and come back, the corruption you witnessed earlier may have gone away. I'm very confused. Has anyone else had this sort of problem or have any suggestions as to fix it?
    I'm running and developing with the Java SDK 1.4.1 on a Windows XP Pro box...

    Sifted through the bug database -- didn't find anything applicable. Still have to finish looking through it however. As for unloading the graphics and audio data...
    Perhaps I have a misunderstanding of how java handles function calls, but the only Audio streams or mention of the AudioPlayer class that exist in my program are handled by the playSound function (above). Since they are local to that method, they shouldn't exist outside that function, and thus Java's garbage collection should be unloading the data when the function call is finished. I suppose I can try and force that by setting all the variables in the method to null when I'm done, but that seems like a waste of typing (although admittedly, at this point I'll try anything). That function takes a string which points to the location of the .wav I want to play... and since the strings are constants I know they aren't changing somehow during execution... shrug.
    As for the graphics idea... I suppose I can set my ImageIcon variables to alternate copies of the same graphics every now and again to "reload" it, but what I'm really shooting for is either A) I'm doing something wrong, with ideas on how to fix it, or B) this is a known bug that will miraculously fix itself once Sun gets around to fixing the JVM.

  • Spotlight icons corrupted

    !http://img.skitch.com/20090209-rs3au5tgcta9s3mdkq8aub7rad.jpg!
    !http://img.skitch.com/20090209-gd1ub686tpytdg4sxbmk19x97w.jpg!
    Recently the application icons in Spotlight's search window look odd.
    There's no problem with the search itself, Spotlight hasn't slowed down, the indexing seems ok, in fact the whole system appears to be ok, let aside these odd looking icons.
    Logging out or restarting the system works for a while, 3 Spotlight searches to be precisely, the icons are fine for a while, but the fourth search returns every application icon the way it is seen on the screenshots I made.
    What I already tried:
    A restart
    Repaired permissions
    Cleared cahes
    Updated prebinding etc.
    Update the whatis database
    Cleaned font cache
    Deleted Spotlight's preference file
    and many many restarts
    Again it works for a while, but the fourth Spotlight search will give these annoying corrupted icons.
    Has anyone seen this before?
    What may be the cause?
    And more important: can it be fixed?
    Thanks in advance!

    Update:
    I don't think Gimp and quartz vm have been the cause.
    The so-called QCDialog.droplet and another droplet which uses the same icon CocoaDialog.droplet are part of an application called OMCEdit (On My Command).
    With this app you can add contextual menu items from a pre-installed list or you can create and edit your own.
    I only use two of them: "Send with Mail" and "Set Image as Desktop Picture".
    I have used these contextual menu items only a few times and I don't know how these droplets relate to the contextual menu items and how they would relate to the spotlight index.
    Out of curiosity I have set a couple of desktop pictures and send files with mail via these contextual menu items and did some spotlight searches and everything is fine (by now), but as soon these annoying icons take over all the other application icons I think I'll uninstall OMCEdit.
    And in retrospect, I didn't have to start a thread: rebuilding the spotlight index was a pretty obvious first solution.
    What made me doubt from doing this is that I didn't aspect this indexing to be so quick and casual, I thought it would take hours and hours.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Desktop icons corrupt

    I started up this morning, and all the icons on my desktop and my dock have little black lines around them, as does my mouse pointer. Any icons in open windows seem fine. I have a G5 2ghz running 10.3.8. I've zapped PRAM, trashed caches, pulled preferences, but nothing works. I'm not sure, but I think the icons may have become corrupt right after startup when I connected my iPod. Any ideas?

  • Icons corrupted - how to restore?

    Hi,
    Following a sync today I noticed that many of the music folder icons on my 3GS have become either blank or replaced with incorrect ones. It seems the icon folder database has become corrupted.
    Is there any simple way to restore it?
    Many thanks in advance for any suggestions...

    Well, I've tried resetting but with no luck..
    I am not sure I want to do a full restore, new folders have their correct icons, and there seem to be no other issues. I can just survive with a few folders haveing generic icons!
    Thanks again for the help.

  • Preferences window: Icon corrupted/damaged

    Hi,
    Whne I open System Prefs on my MacBook, the icon for 'Startup Disk' is corrupted. I can't remember what it used to look like, but now it looks like a silver rectangle, with a light switch inside it. There's also part of another imagein the bottom left of it, but I can't make it out.
    Does anyone know there the icons are located so I can attempt to repair it? Or is there something else I should do.
    I'd rather steer clear of reinstalling the OS if possible.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Getting the cursors' icons

    Hi,
    I would like to use a cursor's icon as the icon for a JButton. How do I get, for instance ,the icon for java.awt.Cursor.DEFAULT_CURSOR?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply.
    I could not find the DEFAULT_CURSOR in the folder you mention. My understanding is that the cursors in this folder are the system custom cursors, and not one of the 14 cursors that are defined in the Cursor class.
    My guess is that the JVM is getting these cursors from some system file. I could try to find the cursor on the platform I am using, but that would not give a platfom independednt solution.
