MacPro is unable to call to PC machine for the first time

I have the fllowing problem:
I have two computers One is MacPro machine and other is PC machine. I use Adobe Video Sample Application for Stratus Testing. When I launch the application for the first time on two machines and try to make a call from Mac to PC, nothing happens. PC doesn't receive any calling notification. However, when PC tries to make a call to MacPro machine, everything goes really well.
There is one exception:
MacPro machine can make a call to PC machine with the following condition
1 - PC has already made a call from PC to MacPro.
So, if PC has already made a call to MacPro, then after terminating the call (from anyside), MacPro can call PC and all goes well.
Can anybody please let me know why for the first time, MacPro is unable to call PC machine?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. Let me elaborate the environment I have. I have a Wifi Network and the following three machines
MacPro (about which I have already discussed)
PC (about which I have already discussed)
Macbook
For your information, MacPro and Mac can easily talk with each other without any problem. Problem occurs when within the same WiFi network, MacPro tries to connect with PC.
I hope this will help you all a lot to guide me. Im also going to read the tutorial you have provided me.
Looking ahead from your side.
Thanks a lot again.

  • Thinking about using Time Machine for the first time...

I just assume that updates are inherently good to have, regardless of what it's for. I figure that the developers know a lot more than I do regarding the optimization or improvement of their own software, so I simply allow their download. I'm thinking about using my Time Machine for the first time and reverting back to the pre-9.1 install, if that's even possible. Things were working fine for me and now there are all kinds of issues with communication between my Axiom Pro 61 and Logic. Nothing responds through Hypercontrol anymore, and I don't expect any updates from M-Audio until at least 2012. Anyone else thinking about taking this route?

Yes, I did. I opened that version immediately after I discovered that 9.1 had that effect and the controller was still inoperative. Of course, I still have MIDI input and PB/Mod wheel control, but that's about it. Everything else would need to be manually loaded, which the Pro series is supposed to do automatically. I haven't restarted my iMac yet, nor have I tried removing the keyboard from the computer altogether and perhaps reconnecting it. Maybe that would reset it...

Running Time Machine for the first time, how that I make sure that some information I have in the external drive does not get erase in the prosess

    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Note: This is now your Library. It's not a Back Up, and you need another disk for backing up.

  • Using time machine for the first time in a while

    Hi all,
I just tried backing up my laptop for the first time in ages with time machine. However , it seems to get stuck on "preparing the back up" and never actually starts the backup.
The external drive I'm  using has been used before for backups, and the icon is the bluey colour it should be on my desktop as the back up location, however the back up simply won't start.
I should mention that I have upgraded this laptop to another newer model which I since returned and went back to this older model. I also replaced the hard drive, and this is the first time im trying a time machine backup since those two changes
Not many options I can play with so I can't see why it doesn't start the back up...it never took a longtime before to start...
Could it be anything to do with space? Now the comp has about 490gb needing back up and there's only 100gb of space on the ext hd,because there's about 400gb of previous back ups on there. I didn't think this would be a problem though as I understood time machine just erases old backups when it doesn't have space
Any suggestions welcome! Thx in advance!
Both laptop capacity and ext hd are 500gb

    Couple of clarifying questions:
    1) How long are you waiting?
    2) Have you upgraded the OS to Lion?
When I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, the first few time machines took hours 'preparing to backup' before the actual backup to occur. We're talking 6+ hours. I'd usually leave it over night to backup. Even my last fresh reinstall of Lion took about 20min to prepare the first time. Now the hourly backups take maybe 1min total.
My suggestion is to leave it over night and see what happens. It very well could be that the differences between your last backup and current machine state is so different it's taking a long time to determine all the changes.

  • I am going to back up to Time Machine for the first time

which I know sounds nuts. I was manually doing it for the past 6 months- don't ask  why.
Do I have to completely wipe out my Lacie and do any formatting to it? Or do I just delete everything from it and set my Time Machine to default backup to that drive and go from there as if I'm doing it for the first time?
Also, I don't keep my EHD attached constantly to my laptop- I assume that is not a problem and whenever I hook it up, I can then ask TM to go to work?
Sorry for the basic questions- appreciate the help!
    Thanks,
    Bernice

I haven't burned a CD in years. My old MacBook doesn't have a DVD burner.
The biggest issue is the size of your various drives. For Time Machine, your Time Machine drive should be three times the size of the drive you are backing up. If you don't quite have that (and I don't), you can get away with three times the amount of data you are backing up. Whichever configuration gives you that equation should be the one you use for Time Machine. You can partition one of the external drives so that one partition is big enough for Time Machine and the other is used for other purposes, such as archives. I have one external drive configured like that. If you don't have enough room to partition, then dedicate one drive to Time Machine and the other to archives and/or clones.
Some people feel it is very important to maintain a long Time Machine history and migrate that to new drives. I don't quite understant that. I use Time Machine for backups, nothing more. I blow away all my backups on a fairly regular basis and start a fresh one. I don't need six month old versions of files. If I accidentally delete a file, I will notice sooner than that. If I have a hardware failure, I only need the last backup.
I currently have those bootable clones only because my MacBook is in a funky state right now (long story) and my MacBook Pro is a work machine bound to an Active Directory domain. I can't rebuild that system by myself without IT from work and that would be difficult for me (longer story). I don't consider bootable clones to be a regular part of my backup strategy. They are useful snapshots and archives for specific times when I feel I need them.

  • Should I upgrade to Mac OS X v10.7 before I use Time Machine for the first time?

I bought a macbook pro in 2008. I recently purchased an external hard drive and I can't decide what's the best option:
    1. Use Time Machine using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 ?
    2. Upgrade to Lion before I use Time Machine (first time)
    3. Or just drag my photos and music manually (those are the only things I need to back up)
    Thoughts?

I see. My only fear is there seems to be a lot of people who orginally were using Time Machine on SL, then upgraded to Lion and now Time Machine becomes screwy.
Also, if I buy a new Mac (eventually) with Lion, I worry that if I've been using TM on SL, the transition to Lion wont be smooth. I may be overthinking this, but I just want to get it right.
But I see your point: I need to get a full back up of my system as it is now before I make any changes. Thanks for your help.

  • Running Time Machine for the First TIme

I have finally decided to run Time Machine. I'm guessing it's a bad idea to mess around on my computer while it's backing up. But it's taking forever. Can I still work while it's doing the initial BackUp?

yes, you can. it might increase the backup time a little but it's probably easier than waiting.

  • Using Time machine for the first time.

    2 questions.
    1) Can I have more than one time machine ( 3 internal HD > 3 Time Machine for example) on the same computer?
    2) Can I assign two different HD to the same Time Machine?
    Thanks
    MP

Yes, but if you are using Snow Leopard you will need to manually switch between configurations.
Yes, you can backup multiple drives to the same Time Machine backup drive.

  • HT1175 Trouble with using Time Machine for the first time.

I do not see the "Change Disk" option. Once I switch it to on, a window pops up that only has one option which is "set up another time capsule." I click that and it searches for something using airport utility with no results. What am I doing wrong/anyone know what the problem is?

Very fortunately I don't use Lion.. and I know it displays things differently... are you sure you are looking in the right place.. Have you opened the section for network.. or do it manually..
In finder (hopefully lion is similar) in top menu, go, go to server.. and type in AFP://TCIPADDRESS.
Obviously put in the actual IP address for my TCIPADDRESS.. or use the TCNAME.
Connecting by both ethernet and wireless is not helping btw.. use one or the other. Although for discovery it is fine actual file transfer gets messed up.. stick to wired for files..
If you still have issues.. press and hold reset for 10sec.. if the TC does not come alive.. I am not sure.. open the network preferences and check that you are getting IP address from it.. and then open a terminal and ping it..
    Thus..
    $ ping tcgen3
    PING tcgen3.bigpond (192.168.2.65): 56 data bytes
    64 bytes from 192.168.2.65: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=2.678 ms

    64 bytes from 192.168.2.65: icmp_seq=3 ttl=255 time=0.943 ms
    64 bytes from 192.168.2.65: icmp_seq=4 ttl=255 time=0.931 ms
    ^C
    --- tcgen3.bigpond ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 5 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.810/2.511/7.193/2.441 ms
Notice I use a short, no spaces pure alphanumeric name.. this is a big help.. and easier to type!!
You can also disconnect every other network connection.. make sure nothing is connected to the TC or computer.. they are all alone in the world. Restart both.

  • Time Machine: Repeated errors when backing up for the first time using a new external firewire drive

My Iomega 500GB firewire external drive failed on me last week and I have just replaced it with an identical model. I used to use the old drive with Time Machine on my MacBook Pro running 10.5.8 with no issues, until the drive had a hardware failure and stopped spinning up, hence the replacement.
Two days ago I tried using Time Machine for the first time with the replacement external drive. The backup failed and each subsequent backup attempt has failed since then with a different error each time. The drive cannot be ejected using Finder (Finder says disk is in use and cannot be ejected even when no processes are running except for Finder and Time Machine has been disabled), by dragging it to the dock (hangs computer which can only be fixed by a hard reboot), in Disk Utilities (drive cannot be unmounted) or in Terminal ("no such file or directory").
The first backup attempt failed after 3 hours of "preparing" with the message "The backup was not performed because an error occured while creating backup directory".
I tried repairing the disk in Disk Utilities and Disk Utilities said the drive was OK ("the volume Time Machine Backups appears to be OK"). I tried ejecting the drive (hard reboot of computer and disconnecting the drive), plugging it back in again and trying again.
This time it started backing up, then failed after a few minutes with the message "an error occured while copying files to the backup volume". I had a look at the troubleshooting suggested on http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/C3.html and followed instructions. It failed again, so I did a full reset as per http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/A4.html.
It failed again, so I tried reparing the drive again in Disk Utilities and again it said it was OK. I tried using different cables and ports (Firewire 400 instead of Firewire 800), and backups still fail.
I have turned off anti-virus scanning (Sophos). I have tried excluding it from Spotlight but this causes an error message from Spotlight. I have tried trashing the com.apple.TimeMachine.plist file and rebooting. I have tried selecting deselecting the drive as the back up in Time Machine preferences, selecting "None", then "Stop Backing Up" then quitting preferences, rebooting, disconnecting the drive, reconnecting the drive and selecting the drive again as the backup disk in Time Machine preferences. I have tried erasing the drive completely, rebooting, and trying to back up again.
None of these have worked. This is a brand new drive and I do not want to have to replace it again if I do not have to.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

    Hello, some possible clues...
Should you click “Start New Backup”? Not yet! If you see the dialog above, your existing Time Machine backup is corrupt, and you might not be able to recover data from it. But you can save a copy of the corrupt bundle and, perhaps, extract some data from it if needed.
Ask yourself if Time Machine has saved data you might need before deciding what to do next:
If you are sure you won’t need anything backed up before today, click “Start New Backup” and let Time Machine do its thing.
Otherwise, click “Back Up Later” and save a copy before letting Time Machine start a new backup. Just look for a file called “computername.sparsebundle” (for network backups) or “Backups.backupdb” (for local ones) and create a copy with a different name. You can open sparsebundle files with DiskImageMounter and browse them like any other disk. More information is available here.
There you go. If you click “Start New Backup” when you see this dialog box, Time Machine will erase all of your old backup data and start a new bundle. It won’t be corrupt, but it will be empty.
Note that you can manually initiate a Time Machine backup integrity check by option-clicking the “Time Machine” icon in the menu bar and selecting “Verify Backups.”
    http://blog.fosketts.net/2010/08/11/time-machine-completed-verification-backups- improve-reliability-time-machine-create-backup/
According to This Time Machine resource   “This appears only on Snow Leopard, and started with the Time Capsule Backup Update 1.0 in mid-May of 2010.  It also seems to have been included in the 10.6.3 v1.1 update and 10.6.4.”
So, what can you do about it?  Grin and bear it, it seems, until Apple fixes it.
One thing you can do to make the backup take less time is to connect your machine to your Time Capsule or other backup drive via Ethernet for the duration of the initial backup.

I have been unable to download adobe acrobat pro, which I purchased on a month to month basis almost exactly 1 year ago, since I purchased it. I just received a renewal email and it had a link to download the program and for the first time when I clicked on the link it actually sent me to a page that had the icon to download now. I clicked on that, but when I went to open the file and start downloading after about 3 minutes into downloading it says an error had occurred. Can anyone help me?

I am a little worried. If you are an existing subscriber why would Adobe need you to download... I wonder if the message is a fake.
I'm not clear, if you've had it for a year, whether you need to download, or you are just following the email?
This page with the icon to download now. Was it a page on adobe.com ?

That seems to be OK via WLAN!
It ist better to do the first backup via LAN-cable.

Are the lines like psychedelic herringbone?  If yes, I had that happen once, it was something serious, like the
Logic board. The good news is that it was fixed without any loss of data on the hard drive. Take it in to have Apple look at it ASAP.  I took it to TekServe at the time, they are very nice about preserving your data and user library when possible.
    Good luck and don't panic.
