It is called a kernel panic and if you Google for it there are some good guides to trial and error steps - there is no one cause or cure.

  • When i open my computer I get the white screen with apple symbol and there are vertical lines all over the screen with green pixels and after a few minutes the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer what happens

3 years ago I bought an IMac Desktop that I am using for a lot of things but the most important for dvd montage in Imovies and Idvd.
Now today when I opened my computer I get as usual the white screen with the Apple symbol but there were all over the screen vertical lines with green pixels and after a while the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer using the power button or the restart button and when I do so each time the same is happening somebody can tell me what is happening and what caused this. This computer is my work and now I have no income anymore.
On the Apple support site they are asking to enter the serial number and when I do so I get message it is wrong but it is the only one I have and I buy this computer in Cairo Egypt. I am living in Hurghada in Egypt for the moment. When I call the technical support of the shop where I buy it they are telling me that it is the hard disk or ram and that I probably lost everything on it and they are asking a big amount to repair.
Can somebody advise me on this matter. Thanks in advance

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

I'm getting kernel panics each day as I shut down, the message of restarting by holding down the power button appears on the screen - it began about a month ago and. Do you have any ideas of how to solve the problem? I've copied the logs that I found for each kernel panic that still have the message logged. Please help if you can, I have read some of the other comments and perhaps it has something to do with my anti-virus software being on at start up. I have copied the log here. Any advice will be welcome.

Immediate suspects are the additions you added to you rsystem that installed kexts (drivers).  From above,

    com.globaldelight.driver.BoomDevice            1.1
    com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardACMData            4.2
    Two experiments you can try.
    1.  Boot in safe mode and see if you can shut down normally.  All thise additions won't be running in safe mode so this test would indicate it is one of them causing the problem.
    2. Uninstall all the intego VirusBarrier stuff.  That's my first guess and the troublemaker.

    Hello Jesslb23,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps first
Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you have registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you have selected iMessage for use. Learn more about troubleshooting iMessage registration if the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use.
Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. Learn more about troubleshootingcellular data or a Wi-Fi connection if a data connection isn't available.
iMessage over cellular data might not be available while on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn more about which network your phone supports. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while on a call if your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls.
    Restart your device.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
If you are still unable to send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Verify that the contact you are attempting to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and re-create the contact in the Contacts application. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your device as new.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

Try to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).
If that doesn't solve the problem then remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • MacPro Hangs on Restart of the Security update 2008-007!

After installing Security update 2008-007 and performing the required restart my MacPro 2x 2.8 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (OSX 1.5.5) freezes on the apple grey logo with the spinning gear.
I`ve tried the Safeboot mode (shift key) but the screen remains the same (apple grey logo with the spinning gear).
I`ve tried the Single User mode (command+s) and done "/sbin/fsck -fy" and reports nothing different.
I`ve tried the verbose mode and there`s no apparent error message but the last line is:
Extension "com.apple.driver.iTunesPhoneDriver" has no explicit kernel dependency; using version 6.0.
And iTunes got updated as well (in the same session as Security update 2008-007) to 8.0.1
I`ve tried the Target mode (T) and used the "Repair Disk Permissions". There`s no error either.
I`ve tried booting from the leopard disk 1 and doing a Hardware test. All ok.
I`ve tried booting from the leopard disk 1 and using disk utility to "repair disk". It returns: disk appears to be OK in green.
The last thing I could do, unfortunately was Archive and Install Leopard with all configurations and definitions remaining.
That works and the system boots ok. Apparently the system is ok, but my two services (Qmaster and MatrixStore) doesn`t work anymore. I`ll probably go wi the fresh reinstall.
    BUT... for my surprise...
I have 4 mac pro 8 cores. This was the first one that I`ve installed the upgrade and restarted. I thought that was a problem with THIS particular Mac, but to my surprise, when I`ve done system update on the second MacPro the exactly same thing happens.
I have other 2 macs to upgrade but I`m afraid to have to reinstall all 4 macs! That`s a lot of work!
    Can anyone knows how to:
1- find what it`s happening to my macs after this upgrade (and it`s not for everyone as would be lot`s of topics about this right now).
    and
2- how to recover/uninstall the last upgrade in single user mode or with the leopard dvd on bash terminal.
    Very best Regards!

My method: +never apply updates until you backup and clone the system.+
Run Disk Warrior (Apple DU First Aid leaves some problems behind)
Never repair permissions from the DVD now with Leopard, you must run Repair Permissions either while booted or from a system running the same version, older versions of Disk Utility can cause trouble.
Test on the new clone. Security and combo updates can be applied to non-boot system. So you can boot from your emergency drive and apply it to your working drive. Perform a repair permissions, before you boot off the drive (another reason for applying updates from a 2nd drive).
Security Updates can plague and cause problems. There are always some that are fine, and some that run into "gotcha" or two. MacFixit usually has reports, tips, troubleshooting as soon as or within a day or two of any updates. And it seems like all your systems with similar configuration? looks like it wasn't tested.
*Security Update 2008-007 (#2): Cannot startup, WebCore app issues, slow Internet, more*

After all these years and updates, I trust them less now than I use to, and it seems like there is always some risk (more risk than I've had with my other OS). OS X needs Acronis along with restore points, a way to apply and undo updates more easily.

  • Message automatic restart: XI connectivity vs HTTP adapter

    Hi all,
I have a scenario where XI sends the same message to 2 different receivers, assynchronously. One is another XI system, through XI connectivity. The other is a websphere Portal using HTTP Adapter.
We have tried to load 100 messages to see the performance of the XI system.
We get some errors due to 405 ICM_HTTP_INTERNAL_ERROR.
What happens is that for the messages sent to the other XI, the automatic retry mode takes care of it, but for the Portal the messages do not restart automatically, they stay in error.
Shouldn't the automatic retry mode be working also for the HTTP adapter? Shouldn't it be trying to restart all assynchronous messages automatically?
    Thanks,
    Miguel

    Hi,
Please look at the weblog which gives some reports that you need to run at frequent intervals. The report restarts the error messages

  • Edit XML payload of messages before restart

Is there a way to edit the payload of a message before to restart it?
I allway get the following message: "you can only edit header/body parts"
    Thanks,
    Laurent

No. But you can correct your mapping program (if this is at fault) and then when you restart the message the updated mapping program is used.
If the problem is actually that the received data are incorrect then it is the responsibility of the sending application to resend the correct data.

  • I just bought a g4 power pc 1gig new in the box.  I have an iMac that I had upgraded from Tiger to Lepoard.  When I put my Lepoard disc in the g4 it gave me a message to restart but when I try to restart it only powers and repeats the message what do I do

I have an iMac that I upgraded from Tiger to Lepoard.  I found a brand new power pc g4 1gig never unpacked and tried to use my Lepoard disk to upgrade the os but I get a restart message  but when I power down it stays off and when I power up I get the restart message.  If I can't upgrade to Lepoard how do I get the computer to eject my Lepoard disk and go back to the os that was on it?  Thank you anyone who can advise.
    Peace

When you power up the computer hold down the click bar on the track pad (or the left click on a mouse) and the computer will eject the disk.

  • SMQ2 messages not restarting

    Hi Guys,
We have some stuck messages in SMQ2, It's just a plain file to file scenario and we process files every day. and some get stuck in the queue. They are 1mb in size which should not be a problem.. The data are pretty much the same as the smaller files so there's no reason for this to get stuck? But when I lock and unlock the queues they don't restart. I've tried all in sxmb_adm as well nothing seems to help. Is there anything else I can try to start the messages again?
    [Screen Print|http://www.photostand.co.za/images/n0vpnmprp21cpz2p82.jpg]
    Thanks,
    Jan

    Hey Jan,
You might want to consider to activate the 'large message' queue so that you can be sure that these larger messages are only processed one by one ...  and thus putting less stress on your java stack ...
We basically activated this concept for anything larger then 250 kb ...
If you have PI 7.1 then you might want to consider skipping the whole ABAP IE handling ( and thus queues ) and use a JAVA adapter only scenario as suggested above ... this will dramatically improve performace for this kind of simple file move scenario's ...

  • Message Server Restart Problem

Hello. I've run into the following problem, and hope someone can help.
Was adding a fourth mail partition, and I had problems with the start-msg after doing the stop-msg. Have done this before without any problems.
    The start-msg looked as follows:
    Starting ENS daemon
    /opt/email/server5: Starting STORE daemon ..... done: 14668
    /opt/email/server5: Starting POP3 daemon .... done: 14685
/opt/email/server5: Starting IMAP4 daemon ...Cannot bind to port 143: Address already in use
Did a stop/start a second time and the stop complained about no pidfile.imap. Indeed, there is not one. The other services (pop, etc) have
    pidfile's.
After doing some reading, I'm thinking the imapd processes were not completely down after the first stop-msg? I see 4 processes now, which
matches the service.imap.numprocesses = 4 config. I was not previously
aware of this number of imapd processes.
Tonight, I will try again. As for the procedure, I plan on waiting a few minutes
to allow imapd processes for finish up so that port 143 can be bound on the
next start. Can those processes be killed if they don't go away? Is there a
method to ensure that the 143 port is ready for a start-msg?
We are on Iplanet MS 5.2. Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thank you, Keith

    Hi,

    /opt/email/server5: Starting IMAP4 daemon ...Cannot
bind to port 143: Address already in useSounds like one of the imapd processes didn't shut down cleanly - or was still in the process of shutting down when you attempted to restart, and the old process is still bound to port 143.
After doing some reading, I'm thinking the imapd
processes were not completely down after the first
stop-msg? Yep - a fair assumption. That is why usually when shutting down/restarting iMS5.2 I used to make sure all the processes were dead (./stop-msg; ps -ef | grep server5). What can happen is that the process has been asked to 'gracefully' shut down... rather then just kill -9 the process. The graceful shutdown can take a bit of time.
I see 4 processes now, which
    matches the service.imap.numprocesses = 4 config. I
    was not previously
aware of this number of imapd processes. There should be 4 processes.
Tonight, I will try again. As for the procedure, I
plan on waiting a few minutes
to allow imapd processes for finish up so that port
143 can be bound on the
next start. Yep sounds fair. It's pretty easy to just run a 'ps -ef | grep server5' and see if there are any processes remaining rather then just waiting.
Can those processes be killed if they
don't go away? Yes - but make sure you kill ALL of the messaging processes if they are stuck, don't just concentrate on the imapd process.
    Is there a
method to ensure that the 143 port is ready for a
    start-msg?Already discussed.
We are on Iplanet MS 5.2. Any help will be much
appreciated. As usual.. iMS5.2 is soon to be out-of-support (may 2007) so you should look to upgrade to version 6.

    Shane.
