MacPro seemingly random Auto-Restart with Premiere
I have a MacPro 3,1 with 10.10 and 32GB RAM.
During video editing in Premiere CC 2014, the computer has auto-restarted twice in the past hour. Both times, I was doing something different in Premiere, so I'm unsure as to what triggered it. I also noticed that now, two of my 4GB DIMMs are not recognized. (note: all DIMMs have tested positively with Rember, and are of the same manufacturer) In the meantime, I have removed the two DIMMs in question and now have four DIMMs on the top riser, two on bottom. The two slots that have caused problems seem to be fine now, but with every restart, things changes—that's why I do not believe the issue to be the actual DIMMs themselves.
I do not know how to interpret these crash reports, but I need to rule out issues in the crash report if there are any. I HOPE the problem is with the RAM and not one of the risers.

Bad DIMM removed. I now have 4 DIMMs on Riser A, 2 on B. But this RAM is just all. over. the. place! Check out these screenshots that "tell the story" of these DIMMs.
11/13 3:47PM - Two unrecognized on A, one error on B
11/14 2:47PM - All is well? Really?
(removed the bad DIMM)
11/17 9:53AM - Two unrecognized on A, two on B are removed.
Today's screenshot was taken moments after the computer restarted itself twice upon opening Adobe Premiere. Here's another EtreCheck:

Many random abrupt restarts with ML and my Mac Pro
Any help would be appreciated with this...
Ive recently clean installed Mountain Lion with only a handful of 3rd party apps on my 2009(?) Mac Pro and seem to be getting about 3-6 random Kernal Panics and/or abrupt restarts a day. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for them as they all happen when doing differant tasks. Last time it happened I was only browsing in Safari with itunes playing in the background. iTunes started to skip like a scratched record 4 or 5 times then suddenly the computer shut down and restarted itself. Below is the report that I sent to Apple. Any idea whats causing the problem or suggestions on a fix? If more info is required Id be happy to post. Thanks!

G4 auto restarts with Lexmark printer connected
My Power Mac G4 Quicksilver 2002 running 10.5.7 will not shut down when my Lexmark P4350 printer is connected. When I tell she computer to shut down, it does shut down normally, but once it is completely off (power light is even off), it turns back on after about 2 seconds. I have had this problem for the past 5 years now. Updating printer drivers doesn't help. I've had this problem with OS X 10.1, 10.3, 10.4, and now 10.5 and I'm tired of unplugging my printer's USB cable to get my computer to stay off when I tell it to shut down.
Any suggestions?Jon: Printer is fine means it does everything it is supposed to do and doesn't do anything it isn't supposed to do - except for having something to do with the automatic restarts. Lexmark says the printer is functioning properly. They also said they've had other customers with this issue, researched it, and determined that it is not a problem with the printer. They've forwarded this issue to apple, but apple has not responded. Also, I do believe the computer is really shutting down. The fans even turn off for a couple seconds. It isn't like a restart, where the computer never really seems to be off. When I tell the computer to shut down, it really seems like it shuts down completely and is totally off for a second or two, then starts back up. It's very weird.
Bee: My printer is an "all-in-one" and your comment about the button manager is interesting. Can you or anyone else tell me more about this button manager? Also, I have very few items in my "startup" items. I removed everything from that list and still had this issue, so that's not it. I'd like to go into my activity monitor and force quit some stuff and see if that helps, but there are so many things, and most of the names are somewhat cryptic, so I don't know what I am forcing to quit.
LadyBug: I have unplugged the printer and plugged every USB item in my house and don't have the issue. I am absolutely, positively certain that I have isolated the occurrence of this issue to be related to the printer. On a side note, to get the computer to turn off (and stay off) I can either unplug the USB cable that connects the printer to the computer OR I can unplug the printer from the wall. Either way works. Also, like I commented to Jon, the computer isn't performing restarts. The computer performs a little differently when I tell it to restart, and seems like it never fully powers down. My computer appears to be completely powering down, then turns itself back on. That's why this issue seems so weird to me.
Thank you to everyone for the comments. I appreciate them all, and I think eventually we can hit this one on the head. I'll gladly try any troubleshooting steps anyone thinks may help reveal the cause of my automatic restarts, so if anyone has any suggestions... -
Random Playback glitches with Premiere CC 7.2.2 on Mac Pro 2014
I am having random playback glitches on my Mac Pro 2014. I can't figure out the cause since its only in the playback and export of the footage. The source footage is glitch free.
I have noticed these two warnings when loading Premiere and Encode.
[cl_invalid_operation] OpenCL Error : Failed to retrieve device information! Invalid enumerated value!
Are the glitches due to this OpenCL Error and how can I fix it?Ya, I'm very confused that this glitch is so below the radar. I would have imagine the editors would be up in arms. Unless they found some solution for it that's out there somewhere.
Because paying so much for a system which can't be fully utilized in a production is definitely cause for concern. -
MacPro Westmere randomly restarts with 3rd party RAM
My new MacPro 6 core Westmere restarts itself once in a while. It can simply be idling on the finder or with any launched application and it suddenly shuts down and restarts!
It came with a pathetic 3GB of RAM so I decided to upgrade to 12GB with OWC (Macsales).
From what I understand OWC is a good reseller of RAM and I've never heard of any problems.
I had the three 4GB stick swapped and still have the same problem with the second batch of RAM from OWC.
At that point I decided to put the stock 3GB in the MacPro and the problem went away!
It seems like my only option is to buy the ridiculously overpriced Apple RAM if I want to have more RAM without the computer restarting itself. How the **** can this computer only work with Apple RAM!
I've owned around 5 MacPros and never used Apple RAM....Well.....it seems it still doing it with the Apple stock RAM!! It just did 5 minutes ago!!
This is going back to the Apple store.... -
MacPro Randomly Restarts with Black Screen, Kernal Panic
Please help...
I have a Mac Pro 4,1 Early 2009 running OS10.9.5. In Feb'14 I installed a new graphics card, NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for Mac. Lately, though, for about the past two months, my computer has suddenly restarted in the middle of a task. It restarts with a black screen. I'd then have to hard-restart my computer to bring my monitor back to life. When the Mac finishes starting up, I am greeted with what I understand to be a Kernal Panic report. This problem has been occurring more frequently now, which is prompting this post.
Typically, I've noticed that the restarting/crash would occur when I am doing video related things that seem to tax the system. So much so that my first thought was that my system was overheating? Yesterday, I observed that the crash occurred when playing video in a web browser, and it happened each time I tried transferring 30GB from a USB source to an external harddrive.
I performed a Hardware Test, short and extended, and everything came back as normal. I also uninstalled CUDA Drivers, but to no avail.
Then, I decided to remove the Quadro 4000 video card and put back in the original video card, a NVIDIA GeForce GT 120. My system has since been working well, as I was able to successfully transfer the 30GB that previously caused the system to crash.
So my question: Is my NVIDIA Quadro 4000 video card dead? Or, are the Kernal Panics a result of bad software, meaning I should reinstall the OS? What should I do next, as I need the Quadro card for it's cuda power in video editing?
Thanks for the help!
Here are some Kernal Panic reports from yesterday...

Once the hexadecimal Addresses are edited out, it is easier to see that the problem was related to the display card. NVRM is the NVIDIA Display RAM on the card. It appears to have failed. This is not an issue with the Driver, but with the card.
Replacing that card with an old one and having the symptoms disappear supports that evidence. -
Premiere CC 2014 causing auto-restart?
I have a MacPro 3,1 with 10.10 and 32GB RAM.
During editing in Premiere CC 2014, the computer has auto-restarted twice in the past hour. Both times, I was doing something different in Premiere (dragging several clips forward in time & rendering all video) so I'm unsure as to what triggered it. The footage is stable and on a clean, problem-free external RAID.
I have the crash report and need to rule out issues in the crash report if there are any. I will post the report if the smarter people out there believe it to be necessary. I HOPE the problem is with Premiere, the RAM and not one of the risers.I had a similar problem with Arri Amira Prores 4444 footage and found out the cause from the Arri website:
"When AMIRA footage is ingested into Premiere Pro, the appropriate LUT from the camera is automatically applied as a Lumetri effect, which can be toggled off if necessary."
The way to switch it off is to right-click the imported master clip(s) and go "Remove Masterclip Effects" , the cause of the baked-in look.
Hope that helps.

Random restarts with Eclipse SLI board
This is a copy from my post on the Vista forums havent gotten much help there.
Describe the problem in detail!
I just built a new system on December 22nd 2008. I do Tier 2 and 3 Helpdesk work so I can work my way around a system. I put the machine together installed Vista did all the updates got all the newest drivers. Basically since I have built the Machine it will just randomly restart. It will not display a BSOD, I have auto restart turned off, and it does not create an event in the event viewer. It is almost like someone touched the reset button.
When did the problem start?
December 22nd 2008 the day I built the machine.
What have you tried to fix it?
Tried several different BIOS setups. I have upgraed the bios, did all the windows updates, got all the newest drivers for video, audio, lan etc etc. Removed MSI Live Monitor, disabled green power in Bios, and removed overclocking center. Went through event viewer and corrected three of the four errors that was showing up. One error is the Kerebos one and I am not worried about that one. I have just run both Memtest86 and Memtest86+ and both of them stop responding about half way through the test.
What is the error message (of any)?
I have Vista set to not auto restart so I should see a BSOD but I get no message. I have had 4 restarts just today and none of them created a new MEMORY.DMP file or any type of event in the viewer.
I do get warnings about something called FLASH.SYS but I cannot seem to track down what this is.
What was the last thing you did before the problem started?
Built the machine.
What are your system specs?
Vista 64
MSI Eclipse SLI X58
12 Gigs Crucial ram matched to the MoBo using the crucial matching system on the crucial website. The MoBo supports up to 24 and I am using Vista 64bit.
Antec P190 Case (Dual power supplies for a total of 1.2 KW of power)
Intel Core I7 2.66
Creative Extreme Gamer Edition PCI E sound card
Mcaffee
BFG 260 GTX
Coolmaster V8 cooler (CPU under stress runs about 70f well below the max of 208f)
Do you have a screenshot?
Nope
My next step is to take out 6 gigs of RAM and see if the issue goes away.
Any suggestions?Quote
12 Gigs Crucial ram matched to the MoBo using the crucial matching system on the crucial website.
Please provide a link to the Crucial Product site for your memory modules and make a screenshot of the CPU-Z "SPD" view.

Test one memory module only and see what happens. If things seem fine, add one more module and test again (and so on). -

Thank you!Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff
dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000

dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.4.0)@0x83c05000->0x84019fff

com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000->0x8378dfff

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
Good luck,

I bought this MAC from a family member. Did everything need to change items to my apple id. Today I did the update for IOS Yosemite now the app store is auto filling with someone else id?? But they seem to be my apps??
If you didn’t erase the drive and install using you AppleID, then the OS and the purchased apps are still registered to the other AppleID. You cannot change that by logging into iCloud. Apps are forever tied to the AppleID used to purchase/download them.
You have to erase the drive and download/install the Apps using your AppleID. -
Auto Restart Issue with Mac Book AIR
Have been using a Macbook PRO for sometime, no problem with Parallel installed. Due to frequent traveling, light and compact is my priority now, so I bought another AIR (11" i7 chip w/ Parallel installed as well). It was working flawlessly for few weeks, used it to download a couple of updates when I was in China (approx. 4Mbit/sec line speed) still no issues. UNTIL when I get back to my office and using WIFI updated another few stuffs, the AIR started to behave strangely with "your computer needs to restart due to problem ..." the last few days it happened at least 10 times daily, so I did what I know with the usual Mac way, reset PRAM, repair permissions blah blah blah ..problems persists so I called the service centre and the technician I talked to suggested the issue could be from 'your moderate internet speed causing incomplete system updated files.' ; half convinced but I followed / reinstalled ...with no CD, it has to press option to select to reinstall -- only then I realized a big problem, originally it states requires 27 hours to reinstall a fresh LION in my AIR but finally it completed and restated in still about MASSIVE 7-1/2 hours time.
As I have bought a USB network connector now (a convenient gadget when stays at hotels with different levels of facilities offered), this is not so troublesome and I think fellow users should consider using network and avoid using WIFI for this purpose. I notice once the left USB once was used (without turning off the WIFI) it keeps breaking the connections, as I read some articles from this forum the left USB could has some stability issues. After all the time spent, the computer freezes at times and auto restarts again. What the heck has this causes the AIR to behave this way ?
NEXT, I also read on the Power issues, I bought it without realizing one of the technical highlight is on high performance battery management but you can chop my head off and sit on mine if the AIR can last 3 hours (probably the suggested time is with computer power on but without using it at all). I don't want to sound un-nice as I have been using Mac for many many years: 1) if AIR is entirely basing on internet (VERY HIGH SPEED) for support is not a really very friendly method for users if there is reliability issues via internet line support, says what if we are caught in remote area with 30k/sec line speed then we are totally dead ... ; 2) the recent scare makes me dare not using the software updates now, as technician suggested, write down what is required to update, find it from apple and do it manually ...Goohs, my Mac Book Pro using side by side doesn't has this issue. Since when was the last time I have to suffer maintaining a Mac myself ? ... @%#&@*!(!
Anyone has clue to these or simply return to service centre to handle for me ?
Thanks in advance (first time user in this community).Hello!
I´m sorry it took so long to reply, but I´m new to these blogs; and I´ve been travelling a lot... Anyway, I was able to configure Airport Express, but I was told I could use it to expand my wireless network inside my house; which I found it´s not possible.
So, I´m returning my Airport Express to the store tomorrow and try to figure out a way to extend my wireless in any other way.
Any sugestion? Big houses are a problem...
Best regards, and once again thank you!

How to get slideshow to Pause and restart with auto play enabled? Happening in all slideshow do not restart once one photo is selected
I agree cwclark, I was going to ask the exact same thing, and yes, the only way to 'restart' the auto play is to reload the page which is frustrating to say the least. Every other site I've seen with this kind of 'auto-play' slide show still auto-plays even after clicking the 'next' or 'previous' buttons. Adobe, you need to get a fix for this ASAP

Sometimes when I have 2 or more websites open, the tabs for them do not have the"X" on the right end that I can click to close them. Others right next to it may have the X or not - it seems random. The only way to close the x-less tabs is to right click and select Close tab. How do I tweak it so there are always X's? The only relevant add-on I can think of is Colorful Tabs, and I have the latest version of it.
If you are not new to browsers, you would probably prefer the single "X" at the far right of the tabs bar to close the active tab, but in any case your choices are described for the configuration option of '''browser.tabs.closeButtons''', see
