MacPro with Samsung Display 4K

Hey there, i want to buy a new MacPro (Late2013), with two AMD FirePro D500 GPUs - and a Samsung U28D590D.
(Samsung 4K Display 3840x2160 resolution). Are there some issues with this display and the graphic cards - or will it work fine ?
Does anybody has some experience with this display ?
Hope you can help me .

Hey man, just curious if you ever completed that set up. Reason i ask, is because I have the same set up, and I am trying to find the best settings for the monitor, and also the mac pro preferences to use.
I was using a Thunderbolt Display, and am hoping I didn't make a mistake jumping on the "4K" Bandwagon

Is it possible to use my Windows software like Quicken or Turbo Tax with my new Mac Pro with Retina Display or will I need to purchase all new

Install Windows either with BootCamp or virtualization software
Otherwise a Mac is not able to run Windows software

  • Photoshop and monitor profile (Samsung SyncMaster 244T with EyeOne Display 2)

I've just calibrated my Samsung SyncMaster 244T with EyeOne Display 2 and
created a monitor profile. Should I use it as the Photoshop working color
    space now?
    Thanks.

So my monitor profile is just for the OS, and photoshop should use either <br />sRGB or Adobe RGB, or whatever color space specific to the output <br />destination.<br /><br />So, say, if I plan to edit some files for a video slide show that I'm making <br />using ProShow Producer I should edit those files in one of the NTSC color <br />spaces and save that profile with the files.<br /><br />I used to just leave them in sRGB and saw some weird color results watching <br />those slide shows on TV.<br /><br />Thanks a lot for your info, Christopher.<br /><br /><br /><[email protected]> wrote in message <br />news:[email protected]..<br />> No. Your working space should usually be a color space with well-behaved <br />> characteristics such as black and white points being equal RGB values, as <br />> well as the values for grays. • Macpro with a Samsung Syncmaster 930B... Any Problems?

    Greets,
I want to buy a macpro.
I will be using it with a samsung syncmaster 930b.
Anyone running the macpro with a samsung lcd? any problems?
Any input or information is appreciated.
    Ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The Samsung Syncmaster 930b will work just fine. I have exact the same screen on my Mac Mini. On my Mac Pro i do use now 2x a Samsung Syncmaster 206bw (20 inch) and those are also working perfect. All the Samsung screens will work fine on the Mac Pro.
Before i had my new 20 inch Samsung screens i used the 19 inch screen. Worked perfect.

  • Using the MacPro with the LED cinema display

When using the MacPro with a LED cinema display (or any other external monitor in fact), is it possible to make it so that the main display (the screen showing the dock and menu at the top) is assigned to the external monitor?

    Hello.
Yes, you should be able to do this through +System Preferences>Displays+.
Just click and drag the menu/dock (from within System Preferences) to the display you require.

  • Problem with 10.8;    MacPro and dual displays

I have a MacPro with 2 video cards each running a separate Cinema Display.  It worked fine with 10.7.
Now with 10.8  the behaviour is very erratic.  The displays get L-R reversed. Even when I reset them using System Preferences>Displays and close that (presumably saving the preference), sooner or later, if I do a restart it will reverse back  pattern. No particular rhyme or reason to this that I can see. Even physically moving the monitors L<-> Rt   doesnt help and sooner or later it changes again.  This is a major irritant with 10.8
    Any suggestions?

That's a question better suited for Microsoft, but certainly has nothing to do with this forum for the Mac App Store.

  • MacPro with QuadroFX 4000 card to Thunderbolt Display

I have a 12 Core MacPro with a NVIDIA QuadroFX4000 with dual DVI ports currently connected to 2 24" Dell monitors. I want to by a couple of Thunderbolt Displays but want preserve my investment on the NVIDIA card. What are my options?

There is no way to use Thunderbolt displays with Mac Pros.  You can use the Mini DisplayPort version of the display.

  • Problem: Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter with Samsung Syncmaster 2033HD

    Hi,
I am using the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter to connect to a Samsung Syncmaster 2033HD
However, I get No Signal with DVI as the Source.
It works when plugged into the DVI slot of the Mac Pro.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Chad

DisplayPort and its variant Mini DisplayPort, use a new and different protocol for communicating with your display.
A properly-functioning adapter can request the DisplayPort use "Dual-Mode", which produces a good approximation of single-Link DVI/HDMI. This is good for resolutions up to 1920 wide, which would include your Samsung (1600 by 900).
Wider displays require a more expensive "active" "powered" converter, to convert DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI.
So if the display works with a straight DVI connection, but not a DisplayPort adaptation to "Dual Mode" DVI the weak link appears to be the adapter, but you cannot quite rule out the display card.

  • What is the best way to set up my RAID? (8Core MacPro with 2x1TB HDD) + (1x2TB External G-RAID)

    EQUIPMENT:
    Spring 2011 MacPro OSX-10.6.8
    8-Core (2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon)
    Memory: 16GB 1066 MHz DDR3
    RAID:
      PCI Slot:          Slot-4
      Hardware Version:          2.00
      Firmware Version:          E-1.3.2.0
      Expansion ROM Version:          0018
      Shutdown Status:          Normal shutdown
      Write Cache Enabled:          Yes
    +
    2TB G-Technology G-RAID External Hard Drive
    2 x Firewire 800, 1 x eSATA, 1 x USB 2.0
    Self Powered DC-IN
I know RAID basically lets different drives work together to work more efficiently, especially with large files.
I use my MacPro for video editing for motion pictures, using both Final Cut and Avid Media Composer (also have Adobe Premier because it came with CS5, but have yet to try it). I also use ProTools to score the films.
    QUESTION:
I would like to know what you amazing MacPeople think I should do. I know there are multiple setups for RAID, and I obviously intend on one day having all 4-hard drive bays in use, but only ordered 2 initially when I built it. I also have the G-RAID external. I am in a position where I could partition my G-RAID external to backup both the hard drives, but I have only been using it as a way to bring my media with me when I was going to edit in the lab, but now I do everything at home. I would like to keep it as my travel drive, but let me know what you guys think. I obviously want to put it to the best use possible. I have a 500GIG slow external that I can use too, but I want to get my processor performance as fast as possible. When I edit now, it seems like I am not getting the full potention of my $7,000 MacPro (+ the $1000 Display).
Thank you in advance for your insight.

I think you got no rsponses because the question you asked is too broad.
The single biggest performance payback on a Mac Pro (that is not compute-bound and has enough RAM) is to establish a Boot Drive -- with System, Library, Applications, and the hidden unix files on its own drive.
This keeps Mac OS X Virtual Memory system from wrecking the performance of regular file access -- whether you have the User files on a RAID or not.
Most Mac OS X Applications are built like pre-paged paging files. They are similar to the stuff already on the Boot Volume, and some are cranky if they are not on the Boot Volume.
As Mac OS X runs, and applications run, they take a different path through the software and find that the code needed to do a certain function is not present, and must be "paged" in.
You want that activity not to interfere with reading big Source files or writing big Destination files. Mac OS and Applications "snacking" moves the drive heads away -- and they take 20 milliseconds to get where they are going, a spin or two of the Hard drive at 10 milliseconds a spin to read, and 20 milliseconds or so to get back to work. All that is dead time before you can get more data to proceed.
Next is to set it up so that reading Source files does not compete with writing Destination files, such as having a separate Volume for destination files.

  • Macbook Pro with Retina Display to HDTV, How?

Hey , okay so i have the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display i got it not too long ago. I'm looking to hook it up to my HDTV, i have a Samsung TV not 3D and i just wanted to know what cables and such i'll need to help me display what's on my Mac to my tv. I want to be able to use Netflix, HBO GO, etc from my computer and display it over the tv. Even thou i already have it on my 360, i just want the option. Thanks anyways.

We have two Samsung tvs...one is a smart tv and the orher is not but they are both LED.  I hook up my ipad to both TV's with an hdmi cable.   Did you try all the hdmi ports available?  Also, did you change the source on your remote control to the proper input?

  • Macbook pro 15 retina with UHD display slowness

    I have connected a
Samsung display U28D590, to my Mid-2014 MBP 15 Retina with Intel Iris Pro.
My display reports a successful 60hz and is set on DispalyPort 1.2 protocol.
But still when the extra display is connected i experience hiccups, like it gets stuck and i can not move the mouse for a few seconds, sometimes even 10-20 seconds and the keyboard as well at times stops reacting, the system freezes, i think that music playback continues if exists.
    i am aware to :
Using 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with Mac computers - Apple Support
i am not sure about the effect of:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
    and i even tried:
How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
i want to know if this is the best results i can get, i would love to hear from users with the same expirience, and also if having the dedicated video card
another interesting thing to note is when i go full screen, in youtube, mac gets hot, but when i play a video from my ssd with vlc and put it full screen it doesn't necesserially happen, and i can watch 2 hours without any fan noise. running the cpu hot for long period as a movie is not recommended if i am not wrong. but most important are the long hiccups.
please help me! thanks in advance.

  • Screen burn-in/ghosting on MacBook Pro with Retina Display

I have had my 15 inch MacBook Pro with retina display for a little over a year now I and I have started to notice that when I am on a mostly white webpage for a few minutes, and then switch to a darker page, there is an obvious screen burn-in/ghosting.  Is this something that can be fixed?  It's not accidentaly damage, it's a manufacturing problem.
My warranty recently expired.  Will I have to pay for repair costs even though this is Apple's fault and not mine? If so, how much could I expect to pay? Is there any way to extend my warranty? How much does that cost?

Just got my second MBPR 13, and it cames again with the not welcome and clear "feature" of IR
When I try to check for the display model with he command
    ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
    I got this output
    @.`0 6
    Color LCD
Later I checked it in the colorSync utility
    Manufacturer: 00000610
    Model: 0000A020
    Manufacture Date:CD238700
Not sure if its Samsung or LG, but honestly I dont care, I just want a not faulty display in my new expensive laptop.
Now Im thinking to return it again and Im really paste after waiting for almost a month to receive this second and also defective laptop (I bought it in the online store, 1TB, 16RAM, I7).
Should I return it again? Im thinking that even if the 14 days expires, since I have the waranty, they fix it anytime within the 3 years apple care waranty.
    Should I play the lotery?

  • Using my macbook alternately with cinema display and without makes all my screens shift and change in size ?!

After I disconnect from the cinema display and than a few minutes later open up the macbook without the display connected, things are fine. But re-connecting to the display, all the screens are moved and/or changed in size. Anybody any ideas ?

I'm currently sitting in my office using my MBP and looking at a 24" Samsung display. At home I replaced my 4 year old iMac with a 2 year old 13" MBP which is connected to a similar display. That should be tell you all you need to know!

  • I just bought Mac Book pro; trying to hook up dual monitor with Samsung syncmaster 2033 but no signal; I am using dvi to hdmi converter. Please assist.

I just purchased a Macbook Pro but unable to set up dual display with samsung syncmaster 2033 via DVI to HDMI port.
Thank you in advance for help.

There has been quite a lot of discussion here about driving twin displays with the mini, and more recently about the potential for USB video adapters to facilitate this, particularly in the light of several vendors claiming they have suitable MacOS devices and drivers 'almost ready'.
The DisplayLink solution seems to be the one most suggested as viable, though it's a pity they have not yet been able to move their drivers from beta - I suspect that puts a few people off. It's therefore good to hear of a real-world experience that should help others decide whether or not to go this route!
