MacPro1,1 (c.2006) 16GB RAM Upgrade Needs 64bit Win 7 OS?

Hey guys.... client has a 32bit Vista running on his MacPro1,1 right now, had 1GB RAM, got him 16GB because he wanted to stay with that computer. However it only shows 8GB, and reminded me of the times Windows always showed less RAM when it was 32bit.
So would this be as simple as upgrading to like 64bit Win 7 and it will use all 16GB?
Thanks!

  • Issues with sleep/wake feature after 16GB RAM upgrade in my MacBook Pro. Any thoughts?

Just installed a 16GB RAM upgrade in my MacBook Pro and now it doesn't wake up on it's own when I open the lid. I have to press the power button. It works fine with a smaller RAM upgrade.
I've tried putting in just one of the 8GB modules and the sleep/wake feature works as normal so there isn't a problem with the RAM modules that I've bought (Crucial.com). I've also put in a combination of Apple's original RAM and the new ones to make 10GB (8GB + 2GB), and the sleep/wake feature works on that too. Put both 8GB modules back in and the MacBook doesn't wake up when I open the lid, I have to press the power button to wake it up. The MacBook itself works fine, super fast and the memory is recognised on 'About This Mac', the sleep/wake issue is the only problem I'm having with the 16GB RAM.
Any thoughts on this? Has anybody else had this sleep/wake issue like this when upgrading RAM?

I upgraded my early 2011 MBP to 16 gigs with Crucial. My machine would not sleep properly, because when I tried to wake it, it would wake from its hibernate image file. This is the issue I've seen here in this list.
I tried all the suggestions I saw on these groups. Nothing helped. I contacted Crucial, who suggested that if their RAM was defective, they'd replace it per their warranty process. I needed some proof it was their RAM causing the problem.
I put the original 8 gigs RAM back in the machine (2 4 gig sticks), and it behaved normally. I then put one stick of Crucial RAM in, all by itself. The machine behaved normally. I put the other stick of Crucial RAM back in, and took the first one out. The machine would not properly sleep and wake from sleep. This proved that one stick was causing the problem, and the other was not.
    Defective RAM!
I then requested and received an RMA from Crucial to send the defective RAM back. They paid shipping. I got new sticks of RAM about a week later. These new sticks of RAM work properly. No sleep issues.
I'm surprised and disappointed to say that this is not the first time I've received defective RAM from Crucial. I've purchased from them for years, and had GREAT service and received high quality products. The past couple years my experience has been different.
I'm still pretty steamed about this, as I spent a great deal of time trying to diagnose the problem and fix it. I don't really have that kind of time to waste. My expectation was that their RAM was high quality, and unlikely to be at fault.
Perhaps this is just a bad batch of RAM. I get that. I can forgive them once. But this has happened twice in the past three years. I'll look elsewhere for my next memory purchase.
Keep in mind that their customer ratings are generally very high. My experience is probably  isolated.

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro 13' Early 2011 running Yosemite. After the RAM upgrade to 16GB, the speed of the computer is still not satisfactory, having some lag times in launching softwares and startup. Please suggest me what to do. Below is the report. Thank you!

First go to the RIM web site and look to see if they have an uninstaller for the device you had.  Some times a reinstall of the application and then running the uninstaller is required for complete removal.
If no uninstaller is available, then you will have to use Spotlight to find all items with 'Blackberry' and 'Rim' in the titles.  I would also download EasyFind and use that to locate such files.  Often it will locate items that Spotlight misses.
    Ciao.

  • 16GB RAM Upgrade for MAC Book Pro mid 2012 15inch

Does anyone know if there is any chance to upgrade a mid 2012 15-inch Mac Book Pro to 16GB RAM?
This document states 8GB RAM as the top config for such a model: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1270#link2
    Thanks in advance

Yes, if you've the non-Retina 2012 MacBook Pro you can upgrade to 16GB of RAM using  204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs available widely, but particularly good for picky Macs, Crucial or OWC.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • 15" Macbook Pro mid-2010, 16GB RAM upgrade possible?

    Hi all,
I've been looking around all the support forums and questions asked etc..
But I can't find a definitive answer about support for the 15" mid-2010 MBP being able to use 16GB (and be stable).
I'm aware that it's perfectly fine on the 13" model, however I have the 15" i7.
From what I've been reading it's because of the motherboard/Graphics chip/EFI BIOS incompatibiity with anything more than 8GB. (Which is silly really, as the same Intel core i7 can have up too at least 32GB of RAM on any none-Mac system.)
Have Apple not pushed out an EFI BIOS update that could allow the use of 16GB RAM?
If this has been clearly answered elsewhere (and I haven't found it), feel free to point me in the right direction.
    Thanks, Jon.

Unfortunately, 8GB is the limit. I have the same machine. Why it works on the 13" and not the 15" is ridiculous, but that's how it is.

  • Intel HD Graphics and 16GB RAM upgrade?

Does anyone know if there is any way of increasing the amount of RAM allocated to a Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics card? I recently installed 16GB RAM and I have 512MB of graphics memory. I am not sure what it was before as I hadn't checked but I was wondering if there was an app or a terminal command that you could use to increase the memory to 1GB or more maybe?
I have Windows 7 installed over bootcamp if you could do something in there that my effect Mac OS X. Also in Windows, there is a settings option in the taskbar that I can change the options of the graphics card (ie: Resolutions, Energy Efficiency, etc...) and I don't know but would that change the settings in Mac OS X too?
I have looked around on the internet and a few other people are having this problem. Thanks!

NO.  Once you have installed 8 GB RAM or more, you have maximized the Intel 3000 Graphics VRAM.
    Ciao.

  • Purchased Mac Book Pro 2.7 GHz, 16GB RAM (upgrade), 512 FLASH (upgrade) 14 days ago - but new MAC Book Pro announce today (10/22). Did I Overpay? Any discounts or reimbursements for non-needed upgrades?

I recently (14 days ago) purchased a Mac Book Pro 15.4 and increased the processor to 2.7 Quad Core Intel Core i7, increased memeoty to 16 GB 1600MHz DDR3l SDRAM, increased the storage to 512 Flash Storage. Today (10/22) an New Mac Book Pro was announce and release for purchase. This new laptop has 16 GB RAM and 512 Storage as defualt options without having to pay a premium.
After contacting the customer service I was presented with two options - since the customer service representatives/ supervisors/ leads could not locate the price differences they could not tell me how much the credit should actually have been.
    1. Return the computer, have the monies returned to me and repurchase a laptop with the new standars (aproxx 2 -3 week process).
    2. Take a $150.00 credit
I can say that the memory was probably $200.00 and the storage was probably $300.00.
Is there a way to get the full refund for hardware configurations that are now default?
If I had waited another 2 weeks I could have save some money and get a better video card and processor. The release of the New Mac Book Pro was not a known/ planned event.
    Can you help Apple?
    Thank you!

You have also posted in the Mac Pro forum and not the MacBook forum. You may find many other similar experiences there. For future reference it's worth noting forthcoming upcoming Apple events and checking out some of the Apple related websites. You will then be able to make an educated guess re what is about to be updated and what is likely to remain the same. It's now a good time to buy an iPhone and all those recently updated MacBook Pro and iPad models. Less good time to buy iMacs.More detailed info here.

  • Macbook Pro 16gb ram upgradability

I'm looking into buying a Macbook pro and was planning on buying the non-retina display version. This laptop will primarily be used for school work, iTunes, video streaming, Photoshop, lightroom, aperture, and whatnot. Now i plan on buying the 2.6gh version, but Im wondering if the 8gb of ram it comes with is enough. I also heard somewhere that it would be recognized and wouldn't make a difference if i upgraded it to 16gb.
I would've liked to go with the new retina display model, but i can only afford the lower entrance model with the 2.3 processor, and i'm not sure if this would work for my needs.

My 2011 MBP can take 16 GB RAM.  macsales.com sells the 16 GB kit for $160 currently.  Apple tests against the more commonly available RAM types when publishing hardware limits, so only reports 8 GB as a maximum.
8 GB RAM is abut $50 through macsales.com, so buy the default 4 GB regardless of where you decide to go.

  • 16Gb Ram upgrade in Macbook Pro I5 mid 2012

    Hey Peeps
Ugraded my mac a month ago.
not used it much as ive been testing out a new tablet at work.
Finally got down to updating some ipads today, not impressed.
The 16Gb upgrade i installed, not much difference in speed and still laggy.
Now there is too many forum pages going about some macs it isnt allowed so much and some macs are running better with Mavericks , etc, etc
My simple question. I have invested this money into my macbook, i wanna use all of it at all times, its heartbreaking to see 13gb of Ram free while playing a song and its jittery becasue your sending something to the trash. Whats the way forward from this?
    Thanks for help in advance

Whilst I am not going to be able to suggest anything of value. As a comparison, I have a mid 2009 MBP 17 Intel Core 2 Duo, with 8 G RAM installed, I have never suffered any noticable lag, or music jittering, even when I am battering the unit, so to speak.
I also DJ in live situations with the MBP and again, knocks on wood, have had only minor jittering once in a blue moon.
To me it sounds like you have an issue with an incompatable app/plug-in/setting.
Have you tested the RAM? One peice of advice I got when I installed mine was to run some tests to ensure it was OK. This I did, it took a few hours but it all came back as good.
That might be something to consider.

  • MacBook Pro won't boot after ram upgrade...

Hey everybody! Hope everyone is having a great Christmas! I got a 16gb ram upgrade for my 2012 MacBook Pro 15 today and I am having some trouble with the upgrade. Its an odd problem. I installed the two 8gb sticks no problem, but when I try and boot into OS X the machine shows the apple logo with the spinning wheel underneath, and then it just shuts itself off. I don't know what the problem is. The machine boots fine into my Windows 7 partition, and registers both sticks of ram. OS X restore also boots no problem and lets me reinstall OS X, which is what I am doing currently. IDK if this is just because of a hardare change or what. The ram I installed is Adata pc3 12800 1600mhz ram, so it should be supported.

Replace the Ram, buy from OWC or Crucial, buy the Ram Apple recommend, don't rely on "it should work"

8 gb will do I guess
Based on the information that you have supplied, you have a Early or Late 2008 MBP.  Maximum RAM that it will accept is 6 GB with the following specifications:   200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.
The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.

  • This is the regular status of the memory of my macbook pro. Do you think I need a RAM upgrade?

    Hi there,
I'm hoping to seek the expert views of the community here.
I have a MacBook Pro, Late 2011, 17 inch. Running latest version of Mavericks. Speed seems to have slowed somewhat, perhaps since I upgraded to Mavericks, but not certain about that. Based on my research of the Apple communities, I suspect that I may benefit from a RAM upgrade.
Attached are a few screen shots to assist:
Based on what I have researched in the community, the fact that I have used 3.99GB of 4.00GB, and have used 5.63GB of Virtual memory, seems to suggest to me that I have well and truly maxed out my RAM. Also there is a high number of read ins/outs (but it had been a wheile since I last did a restart on the MBP (if that has any effect on these numbers here).
I have also read that my model of MacBook Pro is upgradeable to 16GB of RAM (2 x 8GB).
Thoughts and views from the community would be greatly appreciated. Will additional RAM help the speed and performance of my MacBook Pro?
    Many thanks.

More RAM is always a Prudent move...

It will certainly help with Performance.
Macs can be very Fussy about RAM...
You can use these Links to check which RAM is suitable for your Mac...

  • Upgraded 16gb ram. Only using 4gb

    Hi,
I have an iMac 27" Mac OS X 10.6.8. I upgraded the memory from 4gb to 16gb. After working on it I have noticed that the memory that is using within the activity monitor, it only uses 4gb. I'm usually using Pro Tools 8 LE for it, I have a lot of troubles with memory.
Any Ideas to start using the 16gb ram?
    Thanks in advance

    Install Sophos: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18316360#18316360
That is pure sarcasm by the way. Don't install Sophos.
What you are seeing is completely normal. Your iMac uses what it needs, and your usage indicates that it needs less than 25% of its available memory. If it needs more it will take more. 16 GB is enormous.
    Enjoy your Mac.

I want to upgrade my machine with 16 GB RAM, it already has a G.Skill single RAM chip of 8gb. need help with the following. Will upgrading to 16Gb RAM on a Early 2011 2.7 Ghz i7 Macbook 13" cause any problem? Also i plan to upgrade to Mountain Lion, will it work?

It won't cause you any issues or problems....
it is however, suggested you install the same brand RAM that are of the same specs....
    1333MHz........
Installing different brands with different CL speed might cause issues....
so if you already have a G.Skill RAM installed, then install the same brand.
