Macro virus removal

Macro virus
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this Macro Virus from my word documents? Every document that I have created for the last year or more has them. Including every copy of my book! Problem is that I didn't know it was a problem when I kept seeing the warning. I guess an important question is, "is a MACRO a VIRUS?" Or are macros normal but sometimes people use them to embed the virus? I'm not sure. Before I assumed the later. But now I'm thinking that a macro is a virus. Will someone clear this up? More importantly, will someone tell me a good program that well remove them please. Oh and the program has to work with 10.4. I'm not putting any of this stuff on my 10.6 machine.

Word Virus on Mac – W97M.Thus.gen-2...

1. I just opened up Word (and a new, blank document if it doesn’t open automatically).
2. The go to “Tools -> Macros -> Visual Basic Editor”
3. On the Left is a box called “Projects”. The default selection is the blank document that you have open. Above that will be a cascading menu that will say “Normal”. (See the picture)
4. Once you click on “ThisDocument” a bunch of code will show up in the main window. Just select it all (Apple+A) and then delete it. All of it. Don’t spare a single character.
5. Save the changes (Apple+S, or select “Save Normal” under the File Menu)
6. Quit the editor (Apple+Q, or “Close and Return to Microsoft Word” under the Word Menu)
7. Close Word.
That is it! You are all done!!

    Acrobat 10 Pro: Unable to Install Updates After Virus Removed: Receive Error 1310 ?
    Attempted to re-install the original Adobe Acrobat 10 Pro from the disk provided with the purchase; and it has put me in a trial; and is requesting that I purchase the software I already paid for, two years ago.

    You can try a repair (may need to go to Control Panel>Programs & Features). A reinstall is a last resort, but if you go there be sure to uninstall from the control panel, run http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, and remove any part left of the Acrobat folder. Then reboot as the administrator and reinstall. Be sure to disable antivirus during the install.

  • MS Word 2004 Macro viruses - how do I clean old files?

    Hi,
    We just got a new iMac and it's running Leopard. MS Office 2004 is installed and I transferred files from my old blueberry iMac about a week ago. Ever since, when I open a Word document from the old computer it asks if I would like to enable macros. If I disable, then the file opens as "read only." These are simple Word documents, though... I didn't put any macros in.
    I suspect I have a macro virus on the files and now it's infiltrated my new computer. My university provides a copy of McAfee Virus Scan 8.5i but it won't launch.
    What do I have to do to clean my new computer and these files? Once upon a time, during OS 10.3 or so, I had a similar problem but I ended up wiping the hard drive clean. I need these old files, though.
    Thanks in advance.

    You already know what you have to do...get antivirus software.

    what is the best virus remover and protector for 10.5.8 version of mac os x???  I  have this thing called macprotector that keeps popping up and trying to get into my computer.  I have heard of a maleware remover...

    First you do NOT I repeat DO NOT have a virus, currently there are no virus's for OS X.  This means you do not need antivirus software, if you insist on installing antivirus software then I'd recommend ClamXav. You have what is called a Trojan, the primary difference between the two is the user has to give permission for a Trojan to download and install itself. The one you got is going around right now however the good news it's quite easy to get rid of. Please read the following article for instructions.

  • What is a macro virus nd how do I kill it?

    I have a new Macbook (well, I got it 6 months ago), and Saturday I used a student's flash drive (right. brain fade-NEVER do that, but I did). Now, every time I open a document in Word, it asks if I want to enable macros (which I did on the first one,because it had macros that I needed). I asked a friend at the University today who said, basically, Macs can suffer from viruses. . . macro viruses. But he offered no help, being gleeful that another high-annd-might Mac user was brought low.
    So . . .help! what can I do?
    ccp

    Thanks for the links and sugestions! I still have questions, though: if there isn't a virus, what could be causing thses weird and sudden behaviours?
    --The machine WON"T restart; when I hit restart, the desktop image fades slightly and all the icons and dock disappear, but the finder bar stuff on the far right (Bluetooth icons, etc) remain and then nothing happens. I have to press and hold the start button to shut it off.
    --before I ran the ClamXav, when I opened docs, they'd act funny. . . suddenly become "read only" or change fonts w/o any command
    --none of the word docs Ihave opened since I ran ClamXav have popped that Mcro warning box
    Is there anything else going on? I have had three Macs since 2001, a G$ desktop, a G$ Powerbook, and this one. The desktop had a bad hard drive--which died--and has never been right since it was replaced; the Powerbook is currently inactive because the third Power adapter cord broke and I am waiting for a new one to arrive. . .
    So I am SERIOUSLY nervous about this Macbook -- I do not want to have anything go wrong if I can avoid it.

  • No internet access after virus removed

    MacAfee anti virus removed a Trojan (zeroaccess) after which my desktop computer lost ability to connect to the internet. MacAfee told me to contact my ISP after we did various tests that confirmed that the computer does not connect to the internet (i.e., "ping test"?).  Other computer in the house connects to FIOS internet wirelessly with no problem.  I don't think that the problem is with FIOS or the router but is due to changes in programs caused by the virus. Is this something that Verizon can help with or not? MacAfee wants to access my computer remotely to repair damage done by the virus but without internet access they can't help me.

    Make sure you have no proxies.  Virus's often create proxy settings and that is usually what kills your connection.
    Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Internet Explorer.
    Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
    Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.
    Make sure nothing has checkmarks there.
    Afterwards,
    Using the ping command to test the connection between your computer and the router or gateway
    Using the ping command to verify your Internet connection
    Post back the results.   Also let us know if you are wired, or wireless

  • Excel Macro Virus

    Someone sent me a PC excel file that had 4.0 macros. I'm running Office 2004 for the Mac. Now, whenever I open that sheet, even with macros off, any file open then has a macro. No virus is showing with virus scans. I've scanned the file in Windows as well. I can't see the macros to delete. Any one else having this problem?

    A macro called "Analysis ToolPak" in my Excel 2004 program makes Symantec Anti-Virus crash. Is this a macro virus? Can I simply put the macro in the trash to delete it? Simultaneously, a permission error has appeared that Disk Utility cannot repair. Is this connected?
    Thanks in advance

  • Receiving Mac Zip File for virus removal

    Receiving Mac Zip File for virus removal. Randomly comes up through firefox.  I don't open it but I cant remove it from applications.  Any help appreciated.  Also Mac doesn't have a built in defense like that does it?

  • What is The Best Virus Removal Method?

    Hey there,
    I bought my Macbook Pro about a year ago, partially becuase I thought that they couldn't get viruses. Well, last week I found out that my Mac has been sending wierd emails to anybody, and everybody, in my email address book. I ran a virus detection program on my laptop, and it informed me that I do have three corrupt files linked to my email account. But I can't figure out how to remove them, since this software doesn't give me that option.
    If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks!

    I suggest backing up your data and reinstall the OS.  You will clear all the data, and start off new to remove the virus.
    You can also search the file through Finder, then move them to the trashcan & delete it.

  • Macro to remove duplicate rows between two worksheets

    Hi
    We have a master file which multiple users access through 'sharepoint'.
    The 'sharepoint' service had an issue, and this master file (which two users spend a day each working on) has not updated.
    We are left with two variations of the same master file, and need to merge them together - allowing adjustments made by both users to stand. The master has 45 columns, and the copies have between 20916 and 21034 rows inc header.
    As I have basic capabilities with Macro's, would someone be able to advise?
    Kind regards
    Metakio

    Re:  Merging two files
    One way...
    In a new workbook, paste copies of the two sets of data onto a single sheet with one set of data directly below the other.
    Use Excel's Remove Duplicates feature to remove the duplicate rows.

  • Malware/virus removal?

    hi i have a 5k retina 27 in.  late 2014 imac with OSX yosemite 10.10.2
    i think i have a malware or virus or something as the whole computer is running slow and programs like microsoft word, mail, firefox and DRAGON DICTATE FOR MAC 4 have begun functioning incorrectly! the omputer starts as normal though on shutdown it always displays the message 'do you want to quit installer' with the  options to 'abort' or 'continue' but then shuts down before i click anything!
    any    suggestions as to how i can stop this and revert back to having these programs running properly?
    please help!

    There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
    If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
    You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
    Back up all data before making any changes.
    One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
    After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
    If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
    If you find Apple's instructions too hard to follow, ask for an alternative that doesn't require you to trust a black-box application without knowing what it does.
    Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
    In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
    Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
              Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
              Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • Problem with macro expansion removing ? characters from macros

    Hi,
    When compiling the following code (CC ex.cpp), we always receive the error line 28: Error: Unexpected ":" found.
    ex.cpp
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <stdarg.h>
    #include <string.h>
    #define ONE 1
    #define MCheck(n) (n == ONE ? "One" : "???")
    #define F1(buff, size, ...) func(buff, size, __VA_ARGS__)
    #define F(...) F1(acBuff, sizeof(acBuff), __VA_ARGS__)
    void func(char* buff, size_t len, const char* fmt, ...) {
        va_list args;
        va_start(args, fmt);
        size_t nWrote = vsnprintf(buff, len, fmt, args);
        va_end(args);
    int main(void) {
        char acBuff[10];
        // Parsed OK
        F1(acBuff, sizeof(acBuff), "%s\n", MCheck(1));
        printf("%s", acBuff);
        // Causes error
        F("%s\n", MCheck(1));
        printf("%s", acBuff);
        return 0;
    }This appears to be because the pre-processed code (found using CC -E ex.cpp) has removed the '?' characters from the parsed macro 'F' expansion as shown:
    (Code inserted from headers)
    #13 "ex.cpp"
    void func ( char * buff , size_t len , const char * fmt , ... ) {
    va_list args ;
    ( void ) ( args = ( __va_list ) & __builtin_va_alist ) ;
    size_t nWrote = vsnprintf ( buff , len , fmt , args ) ;
    ( void ) 0 ;
    int main ( void ) {
    char acBuff [ 10 ] ;
    func ( acBuff , sizeof ( acBuff ) , "%s\n" , ( 1 == 1 ? "One" : "???" ) ) ;
    printf ( "%s" , acBuff ) ;
    func ( acBuff , sizeof ( acBuff ) , "%s\n" , ( 1 == 1 "One" : "???" ) ) ;
    printf ( "%s" , acBuff ) ;
    return 0 ;
    }Is this an error with the compiler, or is there some flag we need to set to ensure the macros are expanded to the correct level?

    Hi Maxim,
    Thanks for the feedback.
    We are using Solaris 8, so I'm guessing we should use Sun Studio 11? Correct, the latest release that supports Solaris 8 is Sun Studio 11. Be sure to patch both Solaris and Sun Studio once you install it.
    BTW, I was able to reproduce the problem using Studio 9 compiler (CC 5.6). Apparently, it got fixed in later versions of compiler - patched version of CC 5.6 does not have it.

  • Failing to install Windows after virus removal

    I recently detected a virus and our IT guy removed it successfully.  It seems that the registry was "damaged" somewhere as i cannot re-install Windows.  It goes past the first section (gathering files) and then +- 67% of the next
    step - then I receive an error message. I also did a back up (before installation) and at 99% it showed an error and "cannot complete back up".
    I was told i should  re-install windows and this should correct the issues.  I am also not able to do updates or sync any phones/tablets.

    Try create a bootable scan with Windows Defender Offline and boot into your system and run a full system scan:
    http://cyberdefend.wordpress.com/2013/05/06/scanner-in-your-pocket/
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/what-is-windows-defender-offline
    If your Windows 7 is already running, you could create a repair disk:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-system-repair-disc
    And boot into your system and attempt to repair it.

  • Need add-on after windows XP restore virus removal. have redirect problem

    Microsoft technical support removed virus from computer, but said I needed a firefox add-on to get rid of the redirect that happens every time I do a search from any search engine

    is it Mac OS X so much faster than Windows XP or Apple's Bootcamp slows down Windows and on a Windows computer Windows XP is fast
    I don't believe it's either. I think it's simply Windows XP having problems. Windows XP should go like any PC with similar hardware. All Boot Camp does is allow a GUID partitioned drive to have a NTFS/FAT32 partition on it such that it appears as a C drive to Windows. That all it does. Additionally, drivers are supplied for Apple specific hardware.
    I would check the state of your Windows XP installation.

  • Complete reinstall or virus removal

    Two questions:
    1) How can I get rid of this virus (tr/dlbr.tracur.b.43
    2) Or I need to do a complete sysyem reinstall, but I dont have the disk,

    Hi
    This virus not known to me but before you try reinstalling thw whole notebook I would try removing the virus firstly.
    Which antivirus software you are using at the moment? I can recommend the freeware program AntiVir. You should test it with it!!
    Furthermore there are some other good tools to remove such viruses and malware, like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and ComboFix.
    Check this!!!
