Macromedia/Adobe/othersWhoThinkThisIsLAME,
Does anyone know a work around for the audio bug using
streaming video via Flash Com?
You know the one where playing the video and hitting the IE
5-6 back button allows you to STILL listen to the audio after
leaving page ....
I hear this is a IE problem ... I hope there is a solution
that you all know about .... PLEASE! For now, we are screwed. At
the present moment, this crap bug is a hinderance to your streaming
video technology.

Sounds to me like you're using a javascript to get around the
activeX enable problem.
The problem is that with many of the javascripts for writng
in Flash movies, the activeX object isn't shut down when the
browser navigates to another page. The latest version of SWFObject
(blog.deconcept.com) is supposed to address this issue.

Adobe did not develop Flash for iOS devices and has ended all Flash development for all mobile devices.
You could try a different browser from the App store such as Skyfire or iSwifter. -

Installing Mac OSX Lion has killed Macromedia (Adobe) Freehand 11 – which is otherwise perfectly viable, current graphics software (originally designed for Mac, I thought). I now cannot open valuable files used to create figures for publications, and work 'underway' is dead in the water. Apparently Apple, in their wisdom, have decided to no longer support 'Power PC' software. Any solutions? Work arounds?
Manonabike wrote:
Good point/question (Does Lion have some function I need/want?). It seems, from the blurb, that the move to iCloud requires, or will be best supported by, Lion. Certainly they're saying that iOS5 on iPhone will be needed, and it's implied that iOS5 and Lion are designed for compatibility. So yes, perhaps, not sure.
At this exact moment in time, yes, Lion is required. There are "rumors" of a 10.6.9 SL release for iCloud, but that type of discussion is not allowed here, so I won't discuss it.
However, your idea, and from the other replies, to run SL on another partition – yes I did backup before installing Lion – sounds like a way forward. I'll try it – thanks!
I do think that's the best plan at present. You're welcome, and good luck. -
Old Macromedia - Adobe cross platform font issues
This message is more directed to Adobe.
I am aware that currently OpenType fonts are cross platform compatible but only with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
However, my primary workspace is Fireworks-Flash. There are serious cross platform issues with fonts - I have looked at truetype, postscript and opentype and they all have issues translating onto PC - many of the styles are not available.
In our studio I design on Mac but our Flash developers are on PC - our final renders and review renders always need to happen on Mac as a result of this cross platform issue. This is a little inefficient.
When is Adobe planning on resolving this issue?"I am aware that currently OpenType fonts are cross platform
compatible but only with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign."
No, they are fully cross-platform compatible. The Adobe products you
mention, along with a very few others, are the only applications
capable of taking full advantage of the advanced features available in
some opentype fonts. And even the three products you mention don't all
necessarily support open-type in the same way.
"However, my primary workspace is Fireworks-Flash. There are serious
cross platform issues with fonts - I have looked at truetype,
postscript and opentype and they all have issues translating onto PC -
many of the styles are not available."
If you are using the same application version on both platforms, you
should have identical functionality. If you're using an older version
of Fireworks.
The only cross-platform style issue with TT or T1 fonts is that
Windows doesn't recognize any styles other than Regular, Bold, Italic,
and Bold Italic. Also, there's a font menu difference between MacOS
and Windows. Mac display all available styles, whereas Windows only
displays the family name, and you have to select the variants from
somewhere else (typically "B" "I" "U" buttons). SOME font families
from some vendors use the style function to define such variants as
Small Caps, Light, etc. MS products get ... confused.
"In our studio I design on Mac but our Flash developers are on PC -
our final renders and review renders always need to happen on Mac as a
result of this cross platform issue. This is a little inefficient."
If you're using different applications for design and rendering, and
their functionality is different, then you have a cross-application
compatibility issue. You didn't mention what applications or versions
are involved.
"When is Adobe planning on resolving this issue?"
It may be more a Microsoft issue than an Adobe issue. In addition to
the style limitations, There are no MS products that yet support
open-type features.
Although Adobe personnel do sometimes visit here, this is not a
"talk-to-Adobe' forum. Since your problem is application related, I'd
suggest taking it to the appropriate application forumsFireworks

Macromedia/Adobe Director Problem
Hi,
I have been given a program to run by a friend, which I
installed onto my PC. After install, there were a number of x32
files missing, which I searched for and downloaded to my PC. This
worked, however when the program loads I get another error message:
Script error: Handler not defined - #FileFlex
I have spent hours trying to solve this problem desperately.
Can anyone help me?

It sounds like another missing xtra. FileFlex is the name of
an xtra
that I haven't come across since last century. What era is
application?
If you get info on the projector, what does it say about the

Missing big time from Adobe MAX: Adobe Bridge. What will it be? Upgrade it or terminate it?
I’d really like to know what will happen to Adobe Bridge, probably the worst product Adobe has ever produced. Sadly, there is nothing else comparable elsewhere, and so I must use it constantly.
I’ve learned to put up with its sluggish++ performance, reliable ability to crash 10+ times a day and the painful building and re-buildings and re-re-building of its cache.
For I long while I used Extensis Portfolio (the Old Macromedia/Adobe "Fetch") but the stand-alone version of that App has been replaced by a new “server” version that, at $2K per license, is unjustifiably expensive.
Adobe Bridge, then, has NO competition and, at the same time, it barely works …
So, can anyone offer a slight glimpse of hope for the future? (No, Lightroom, does not cut it as it only deals with raster images)
Will Adobe fix Bridge or is it, ultimately, a "Bridge to nowhere"?
Thank you.
A.C.
San Jose, CAI have had Bridge from CS4 to the present CC and have not experienced multiple crashes in a day. I use it on the PC and Mac. I'm thinking there are other factors involved. Aside from prefs, there are startup scripts and other things you need to investigate. I wonder if it's just doing this on your one machine or several.
I suspect something is making it a mad skunk, and finding out what is going can get you back on track. You will also need to check with the Bridge forum and talk with experienced forum members who can assist you far better. Here's the link.

Flash-based Games Appear as White pages after Chrome Update with Adobe selected as the plugin
Chrome auto-updated today and since then most of the Flash games load to a white screen. I always have the Macromedia/Adobe Flash plugin enabled and Pepper Flash disabled, but I'm finding the only way I can display any flash-related games is to disable the Adobe and enable PepperFlash. The games load, I can hear them, and in some cases the cursor changes to the theme for that game, but the screen will remain white. Once this started I updated Adobe the latest one, as there must have been a recent release...same problem. If I have the Macromedia/Adobe Flash Plugin enabled I need to click to any other open tab and then click back again and then scroll slightly and the video will be there immediately. If I disable Macromedia/Adobe Flash and enable PepperFlash the games display the video with no problem. These are the exact pages that were working just fine with the Macromedia/Adobe plugin enabled immediately before allowing the Chrome to auto-update.
Also, when I go to the Adobe site to test the versions it displays the correct revision for the version that's enabled at the time, 12.0.0.41 for pepperflash and 12.0.0,43 for Adobe, but even when the Adobe is the only one enabled and I have closed and reopened the Chrome browser before testing, the site tells me I have the Adobe Flash disabled while still giving the correct version.
I tried Ingognito mode and it did seem to work, but the only extension I have is AdBlock, which gave me no problems prior. I disabled AdBlock and tried running the games with Adobe enabled again in normal mode...same problem.
Cleared the cache, flash cache...
All just started immediately after the chrome update.
Is anyone else using the same version of Chrome experiencing similar issues with the Macromedia/Adobe flash player enabled?

Does anyone at Macromedia read this forum?
How can you put out an update that doesn't install correctly?
I have tried to install 8.0.1, then 8.0.2 and they MAY have
installed. Who knows! I still see "Dreamweaver 8.0" on the splash.
I am not running some exotic system; just XP, so where am I as far
as DW updates are concerned? And, from what I see on the forums, I
am not alone as far as problems are concerned...and, worse yet, I
don't see Macromedia/Adobe/whoever acknowledging that there is a
problem!
This scares the Hell out of me since I have quite a few DW
projects in my Macromedia folders and I can NOT afford to lose
them. Also a bunch of extensions.
Does ANYONE out there know what's going on?
FRUSTRATED...Is DW running? What do you see when you use HELP | About
Dreamweaver, and
then click on the page that appears?

Made with Macromedia logo...
Friends @ Macromedia Forums:
I recently upgraded to Macromedia (Adobe?) Director MX 2004
and I was used
to comply with the "Made with Macromedia" program on previous
versions as
posted on
http://www.adobe.com/support/programs/mwm/
but I read on
http://www.adobe.com/support/programs/mwm/mwm_faq.html
the following FAQ:
Q: When do I need to comply with the Made with Macromedia
Logo Requirements?
A: If you are a user of Macromedia Authorware or Director and
create an
end-user product to distribute outside of your organization,
you need to
comply with the Made with Macromedia Logo Requirements. The
Made With
Macromedia program does not apply to Director MX 2004. Please
refer to the
product's End-User License Agreement (EULA) for more details.
I did so (refer to EULA) and couldn't find any chapter that
instructs on how
to use the Macromedia (Adobe?) Logo.
What are the final instructions for packaging, CD cover,
inside credits? My
native language is not English and I might have passed
instructions written
in the EULA.
Thanks for the help. As you can guess it's pretty urgent
(isn't always like
that?).
Regards,
Juan DazaAs of the latest version (MX2004) the MWM logo requirements
were
dropped. You are no longer legally required to place the logo
on the
disc or in the finished production -

Ver 4: Still no support for Includes or Design Time Stylesheets?
Wow...well, without either of these I can't make use of this
product. I guess I'm confused at what types of users this product
may be marketed toward, although with the amount of focus put on
Blogs and Blogging and lack of focus on requests already made in
this forum for some time I'm getting a better idea. Hey, if they
want to "dumb this down" and make it a price point product that
purposely sits lower on the totem pole than Dreamweaver, then I
think that ought to be made more clear in the marketing materials.
I guess what's frustrating is that it's touted that it "uses the
Dreamweaver HTML Engine" but can't implement a feature like Design
Time Stylesheets? Would this put it too close to Dreamweaver in the
product line? I certainly don't think so but if it did implement
such a feature it would increase the demographic that could make
use of such a great product as many users are not going to rewrite
Includes OUT of their existing sites just to be able to use it.
Most intermediate to advanced designers will almost always,
and have been taught, to use includes to minimize page changes in
multiple places...it's such a common thing to do. But unless an
included page can be edited inline I have no way to turn my users
loose with this app. It seems reasonable to implement Design Time
Stylesheets like Dreamweaver does in which case, the users could
edit the included page directly and at least see it like it should
look with formatting which they can't do now because of the lack of
an applied stylesheet when opening the include file directly.
Do they expect that once we've written a site using includes
we should have our content providers use Dreamweaver? I don't know
about the rest of you but that's asking for a heck of a lot of
trouble turning non-designer/developers loose with
Dreamweaver...even using Templates.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just a bit frustrated as I really
need an app that can let me make use of "Content Providers" in our
company. And don't get me wrong, I'm a long time Macromedia/Adobe
supporter...just hoped something would happen with v4 that didn't
and was pretty sure it would based on user input on this and other
forums.
If anyone has ideas on workarounds for this problem I'd love
to hear!
Thx,
MikeHi. I'm going to reopen this thread instead of starting a new
one. Maybe someone here can help me figure out how Contribute can
solve my client's editing woes.
His site is built in ColdFusion, with template information
that's stored in the database for each page. Currently this is what
happens, simplified.
1. User requests /foo.cfm
2. Database looks up header, footer, and template to use for
/foo.cfm, or the page can use "no template" in which case
whatever's in the page gets put between the header and footer.
3. The template or the page will contain one or more
"editable regions", to use a Dreamweaver term. These blocks of HTML
are pulled out of the database, and can currently be edited within
the CMS by a browser-based WYSWYG editor.
The problem is, the WYSIWYG editor in question isn't up to
the task. Contribute seems to be, but I can't figure out how to fit
it into a workflow compatible with this site!
We don't use Dreamweaver and from what I've seen Dreamweaver
templates aren't going to work in this application. It seems that
if you make a change to the template, Dreamweaver has to go and
update all 800 pages that use the template ... ??!? ... if so,
lame.
I don't mind pulling out all the HTML content snippets from
the database and making a "database" on the filesystem of files
that can be edited in Contribute. No problem. One of these snippets
may be a "contact us" box or something that's used on 100 pages
throughout the site, so I'm not going to put stuff like that
separately on every page.
If I do this, though, my snippets when I open them to edit
them in Contribute are missing their CSS. This is because the CSS
is set up in the header file, which is not included in the snippet
HTML, obviously. The snippets also won't have the header and footer
navigation and stuff, but I can live with that.
How can I get the CSS to show up for my client when he edits
the HTML snippets?
The only solution I can think of is to put a stylesheet
include into every snippet, and then pull that out with a regular
expression from EVERY include at runtime whenever I display that
HTML to the end user. Talk about a gross, ugly, non-extensible
hack. Please tell me there's a better way...

Can I move my operating system to a different partition on the same drive?
I thought I knew what I was doing when I partitioned my hard drive and installed the operating system and everything else. The other partitions are for documents, photos, etc. It worked well for quite a while but now I find there is not enough free space on my start-up partition (24GB) to be able to do new installations. I have cleared a 50 GB partition on the same drive to be the new home of my operating system. I tried copying all the files in the System partition to the new drive but "Startup Disk" doesn't recognize the copied version. How can I make this work without having to install everything all over again?
Too true. I have been partitioning my drives since the 80's when it was "illegal" and voided warranties as was opening the case on a Mac. Now the cases open right up and you drop and slide in new drives and memory. And it has saved my butt many many many times. You put your operating system on one partition, from what I have read it is best on the first partition of the first hard drive in the chain, Master, if you have more than one drive. I have four drives with now down to 8 partitions with the last two 10.4.x OS's that worked well and my last 10.5 for emergency use, all on one drive in separate partitions and boot to them all the time with no problems. I always keep my last install just in case intact and bootable. It's no different than what is done with BootCamp and running Windows. Then put all your data, files, non-Apple applications on another partition(s). That way when the OS hammers, and it will, all you have to recover is the OS and your data is safe. Thenall you really have to worry about is certain preferences and databases that have to be on the start up partition that won't work when aliased. I have found them, and they are few, and use Backup from the iDisk software library to back these files up to my iDisk nightly. And having the OS all by itself makes back ups so much easier and smaller. But you have to leave Apple applications on the OS partition in the Applications or Utilities folder or the Apple Updater will not see them.
Before iTunes and iPhoto would allow you to link to databases that are not on the start up partition, I was aliasing those files from other partitions. Then early 10.5 it didn't work as well, now when you hold the option key prior to starting up in iTunes and iPhoto you'll get a window to go find or create any of many databases to run off of. I have done this for years with Apple, Microsoft, Macromedia, Adobe and many other applications.
So far my largest OS has been 14.6GB after I installed GarageBand and it loaded a ton of instruments on to the OS partition. I have been through this before and found them and moved them off to another partition and aliased them back and GB works great. Otherwise, even in 10.5.x you can have relatively smaller partitions. And yes you want room to grow, if even just scratch disc space that some applications will not let you choose or go off the OS partition. So I hover around 25-30GB partitions and have never gotten close to getting more that 60% full, fulfilling the 10-15% free space axiom that seems to get larger with every update. I have read here that several people that had taken their machines to an Apple where they replaced drives saying that the techs partitioned the drives and said that the minimum for 10.5.x was 12GB. As the updates flow, that will vary probably up. Plus Apple has some bloated applications and a ton of things that you'll never need or use that take up room that are a pain to find, like unnecessary fonts. A little extra space is always good.
I use CarbonCopyCloner to make compressed back ups and bootable clones. The older versions would not copy files that would be easily rebuilt when you booted that OS, thus cleaning up the clone/back up by cleaning/omitting files that normally get damaged. Not sure if that is part of the latest versions. I think they copy everything. Another great thing is that Apple installers and Disk Utility and can use them to restore or migrate from. Because of CCC, I now have it down to 10-15 to restore a crashed or failing OS from parts. I have yet to loose anything, except time in having to deal with an OS that sometimes has a mind of its own.
As you play around as I did when I was waiting for an Apple Tech Rep, and reran the Combo Updater back over a wonky install, to find out if you could do that, it was done and worked great just as he returned and said no one there knew. I told him that I did and it worked great. We kept in touch for a couple of months to see if anything weird happened, which it didn't, and now it is suggested and common practice. Just as the Tech's and I whispered under our breath in the 90's about partitioning. Now they suggest it and Apple will talk to those that have partitioned. As you see needs and experiment you'll learn (trial by fire) and all this will become second nature. So don't think this is too much and go for it. Just make sure before you are completely comfortable, have another drive, I use 25GB Rewritable Blu-ray Discs, to do regular normal, CCC, back ups until you get the hang of it. This method yields 6-8GB compressed archives. Then you'll have a place for your stored back ups and whatnot. I was keeping up to 5 iterations, i.e.: 10.5.1a, b, c, d and e. Once my paranoia subsided I pared it down to two since I could easily recover the small amount that I have to now from small back ups that are mostly aliases relinking files that are safe on other partitions.
So yes you can put/clone the OS to another partition. Just make sure you cover your bases, use an application made for cloning/backing up (CCC) and label your installs as not to have the same name on two OS's or you'll have a bit of a problem off the top remembering which is which. I'm on 10.5.5C2.
Good Luck and Happy Partitioning. -
Need info about RH Server 6 and reports
I'm interisted in RH Server 6 but I'm unable to locate much
practical info about it on the Web site, and a call to sales didn't
help. I need to know what I'm getting us into before I contribute
our $2,000. Can anyone provide this information or point me to its
location on the site:
--I have system requirements from the Adobe site, but what is
the "server" and what does installation and setup entail? About how
how long does it take, or how difficult, to achieve operability?
--According to a piece by John Daigle, the server component
should be installed on a Windows server running IIS 5+. Is IIS a
separate software or standart part of Windows server? If separate,
what preparation should that server have before the installation in
addition to installation of IIS?
--I know nothing about security/firewall protocols. We will
have our own and our customer firewalls to navigate. Are the server
setup instructions adequate for setting all that up? Or are
purchasers expected to have sys admins knowledgeable to set that
up? Is that applied to the RH server or the Windows server? if RH
server, how can I get a copy of instructions for my system people
to review?
--Have users found the RH server/RoboEngine reliable, once
it's operable?
--Is it true that the usage reports aren't customizable? Can
additional usage data be specified in the RH server?
--These report summaries are vague--Areas Requiing Help,
Frequently Viewed Content--stating only that repoorts show the
suchandsuch done "most frequently" or "most often." Does that mean
the top 3, 5, 10 or what? Is there a way to track all of that
activity from most to least?
--The summaries of the reports Unanswered Questions and
Frequently Asked Questions say that terms entered in the Search
field are identified. Questions and terms aren't the same in my
book--am I right that it captures anything entered? Can it do the
same for the Index field?
--I saw no RH server under downloads, or maybe missed it.
Correct in guessing that a demo version is not available?
--Is RH server user doc available on the web site? I found
the Getting Started gude, which isn't much use in evaluating the
product.
I have additional questions, but if you can answer these
questions or direct me to answers some of those may be covered.
Thanks,
Mike
Access database.Hey, Mike!
I found a few things for you. I'm in a hurry, so I'll list
them quickly.
For the Trial, go to the Adobe downloads page
http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
Then select RoboHelp Server 6 from the dropdown list. You
will be asked to register (free) if you haven't already. When you
arrive at the download page make sure you note the Trial Serial #
To make it easier for you, its:

You can also find a RoboHelp Server 6 Getting Started Guide

You were asking about IIS. Yes. As Colum says, this comes
with virtually any version of Windows Server (or Windows XP
Professional). However, you must install and configure it. I am not
an IT or web administrator so it took me a while to learn, but
amazingly I got it to work if you're patient and follow the steps.
(I'm speaking of both IIS and Robohelp Server) Clearly IIS
configuration is not a trivial thing and it is assumed that an
author would have help and cooperation from the IT or Web Admin
folks.
As for customizing reports. At present, the existing reports
are the only ones offered. Since these reports are generated from a
database (Access, SQL Server or Oracle) I would think (haven't done
it myself) that someone familiar with database adminstration could
open the DB (after a backup that is) and be more creative with
generating customized reports.
You are right that the "Question" does in fact mean any
search term or phrase that an end user puts in the search field.
This is the string that is stored and reported as a question. In
discussing this with the Adobe team at STC last month, they agreed
that this was definitely a holdover from the legacy software and is
due for a change sometime in the future.
To answer your other question, text entered in the Index
field is not stored in the database, only the search term field.
Since taking on the old legacy product from eHelp and
Macromedia, Adobe is focusing most of its attention on beefing up
the client authoring app for the next version (Adobe RoboHelp 7).
My assumption is that they are keen on improving the RoboHelp
Server as well. I have passed along many feature requests along the
lines you seem to suggest and hopefully the server will evolve
along with the client app.
Even with its limitations, my clients tell me RoboHelp Server
provides very useful feedback to help them improve their knowledge
base content to make it more helpful and responsive to users needs.
They also like the searchability of PDF, Word, PPT and Excel as
well...something which plain WebHelp without the RoboHelp Server
does not do.
I probably didn't get to everything, but hope this helps.
