Macromedia Captivate Registration

Ramesh from adobe tech support suggested I ask my question here.  The registration process for my verison of captivate no longer works.  Is there a way to register this product so I can use it longer than 30 days?  I have the registration number.

Perhaps by posting here one of the Adobe Captivate development team will see this and be able to offer a suggestion. If you have Macromedia Captivate, that's version 1 of the software prior to Adobe obtaining it. That would be circa 2007? I'd be surprised if there is any way to "activate".
You really should consider an upgrade if you are serious about using Captivate.

  • Upgrade macromedia captivate 1 to captivate 5

    hello,
I have version macromedia captivate 1 and I want to upgrade to captivate 5.
    Is it possible?
    Thank you.

    Hi there
I believe upgrading the software will occur fine. Where you will have issues is upgrading any projects you created in version 1 to work with version 5. I don't believe version 5 will understand the version 1 format. So you will likely need to find someone with a copy of version 2, 3 or 4 and upgrade any projects to one of those versions. THEN you can upgrade the project to version 5 format.

  • Should I buy Adobe and Macromedia Captivate?

I am looking to use Capitivate as a teaching aid for
software. Please can I have some advice about the difference
between Adobe and Macormedia Captivate. Which is the best to buy?
    Cheers
    ML

There is no Macromedia Captivate. Captivate was a Macromedia
    product . . .
Adobe bought Macromedia (the whole company) after Captivate
version 1 was released, then created version 2 branded for Adobe.
So the long and short of it is that if you have version 1, you have
Macromedia Captivate, and if you have version 2, you have Adobe
    Captivate.
    Hope this helps ...

  • Macromedia Captivate for OS X

I am a pc convert who used to use Macromedia Captivate to create how to videos on different software systems... Now I have converted almost all to OS X but I need software which I can use to create how to's like Captivate does. Anyone know of similar software for OS X?

Thanks for your reply.  I don't use itunes so that couldn't be it.  Reading about Little Snitch and Hands Off, however,  educated me about the data harvesting in many apps and that when buying from the AppStore one will more likely get Apps with benign data harvesting.

  • Is this possible in Captivate 3?...

I have Macromedia Captivate 1.0, and it doesn't do what we
need. I was wondering if upgrading to Captivate 3 would solve the
problem. Here's what I'd like to do...
I need to have a "menu screen" that would have, say, three
"tasks" to complete. The user would select one "task" and then they
could either watch a demo on it, or they could try it in "test
mode". If they pass it in "test mode" (by clicking in all the
correct spots), then Captivate will somehow mark it off (or put a
check next to it) or something on the main menu with the three
tasks. Once all three tasks have been "checked off" in Test Mode,
then Captivate will pass a "complete" variable to the LMS via
    SCORM-compliance...
Can this be done with the latest Captivate? Or would other
tools be necessary in order to accomplish this? If Captivate 3
alone can handle this, is it a relatively painless process?
    Thanks!!!

Sorry, what you're asking is not possible with Captivate and
    probably never will be.
Captivate creates SCORM-compliant units (SCOs) and SCORM does
not allow SCOs to contain their own menu/navigation logic. All
navigation between files must be handled by the Learning Management
System so it knows which SCO is "in use" when scores are reported
    back.
The "correct" procedure would be to create six separate SCOs
and mark the demo SCOs as "optional" in the LMS, and the tests
"required". The user then accesses all SCOs through the LMS
interface. Enable only completion reporting for the demos and full
score reporting for the tests and you'll be able to track
everything the user took to the full extent that your LMS supports.
Your only other alternative is to create three separate units
that have both demo and test in a single file. Add a button that
gives users the option to jump past the demo slides and go directly
to the test. Enable reporting for only the test items and have
Captivate report that score to the LMS. Then, the LMS can decide
whether to "check off" each unit as complete based on the user's
test score. Doing it this way doubles your Captivate file size
(generally a bad thing) and makes it much more work to determine
which users viewed the demo, hence the suggestion to treat
everything as separate files as SCORM's designers intended.
The main takeaway from all this is that SCORM doesn't care
what you do in a given file but it will promptly vomit on your
shoes if you try to jump to another SCO without it's knowing, so
    custom menus are a no-no...

  • Problem with registering Captivate Quiz score in LMS

We are using Integrity e-Learning’s WBT manager for our
LMS. We have been using Captivate (SWF files) for several months to
show simulations for software. Generally we are quite happy with
    the software.
We have been able to easily create a quiz (a Captivate
generated SWF file) and access it through the LMS (using a HTML
frameset), unfortunately we are having trouble passing the
numerical score the quiz generates to the LMS.
When a student takes a Captivate Quiz (bound into a SWF
file), the final score displays on the final frame of the SWF file,
but is not getting passed to the LMS. All the other data seems to
be fine. So far we are only viewing status using the Lesson
Progress Report, which indicates “no score (n/a)”. In
this case we are embedding the SWF file into a HTML page contained
    in a frameset.
We have been able to get a score successfully passed to the
LMS if we link directly to the .swf file, bypassing HTML
altogether, unfortunately we also get a warning about using Flash
Player and multiple warnings about downloading the
    “aicc_int.asp” file.
    I have read through:
“Output Options in Captivate” by Andrew Chemey
    (Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4)
“Exploring Quizzing in Macromedia Captivate” by
    Mark Fletcher
    “Integrating Captivate-Generated Learning Objects into
WBT Manager, Part 1 and 2” by Carol Fallon
Has anyone had this problem and solved it?

Please contact me at [email protected] I have many
examples of Captivate passing scores sucessfully back to WBT
Manager. So hopefully I can help you figure out what is going on.

  • Captivate 1 activation

    hello
I am working on a network with user names and passwords.
on one of the computers we installed macromedia captivate 1
after we did the activation we found out that the only person
who can access the program was the user that the activation was
preformed on and other users are asked to enter a serial an
    activation
    does anyone have an idea?

    What OS?
We've a couple older CP1 installs here and have no problem
    with
different computer logins/profiles using that same,
    registered CP
install. If you're on Vista, that could be the issue as CP1
    is not
Vista-compatible. Should work on XP though...?
Why not just enter the serial number again? Does it not
    activate because
that number has been used up?

  • Captivate 1.0 and Vista?

I still have "Macromedia" Captivate 1.0, and i'm using
Windows Vista Basic. Everything works fine except for "full motion
recording". When i do this, the whole screen freaks out, and it
records it that way. My employer doesn't want to upgrade if it's
    not necessary.
    Thanks!
    John

Sorry John, only Captivate 3 is advertised as being Vista
capable. To be honest, I'm surprised the only issue you are seeing
is with Full Motion Recording. I use Vista sometimes and find Vista
itself to be a bit unstable and flakey with different apps.
If you choose to continue with Vista, you really should
encourage your boss to upgrade Captivate.

  • Strange problems with Zip Files in Captivate/SumTotal

Ok, this is a weird one. If I publish a 1.2 SCORM course and select the zip folder option, our (horrible) SumTotal 7.6 system has no problems uploading the course. If I publish to a folder or to my desktop and place all the files in the folder and zip the file, it doesn't track as SCORM at all.
I get the same results on the ADL Test Scorm tracker. When the zip folder is uploaded, it reads as SCORM compliant. When I publish to an upzipped folder and then zip it, I get a ton of XML file not well formed and other xml errors.
The issue is that I need to make changes to the imsmanifest file to remove the SumTotal Navigation Player and resize the screen properly for the course.
The zip program we are using is "ZipGenius".
1.) Has anyone else run into this issue?
2.) Any ideas on how to fix this so that I can make changes to the imsmanifest file and still upload the course as 1.2 SCORM compliant?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Kevin,
At first, I would have thought the LMS doesn't necessarily return the appropriate information for Captivate to send a score (there are several basic calls that are supposed to be sent by an LMS in SCORM to facilitate this).  So, I created a custom HTM file for the Captivate 4 template...  But in re-reading the thread - you are using SumTotal and I believe SumTotal does make these calls...
For the purposes of anyone else that is using an LMS and not seeing a score in their LMS (and they are using this custom template) - here is a Captivate 4 template file that forces Captivate to send a score to a SCORM LMS (though not necessarily SCORM-compliant LMS - if these calls are ignored):  http://www.learningconsulting.com/Content/Macromedia/Captivate/SumTotal_Captivate4_SCORM_C ustom.zip
Kevin - I do not necessarily believe this custom template will work for you.  I can send you an entire debug file I've built for helping to track down AICC/SCORM issues - but let's hold off on that, for now.  Can you edit the resulting HTM file of one of your published Captivate file built using the SCORM template I've provided earlier; modify the last line in the method sendTrackingDataToLMS; uncomment out the alert statement (remove the "//").  I'd like to know what is displayed when you close the content window from SumTotal.

    Andrew

  • Need to upgrade to Captivate 4 and need answers before purchase!!

I called Adobe sales, customer service, and tech support and no one seems to have an answer for me and they put me on hold for over 15 mins so I am trying this forum for help.  So if any Captivate Gurus out there can answer my questions I would greatly appreciate it.
I currently have Macromedia Captivate 1 Education Version and would like to upgrade to Captivate 4.
    1. In Captivate 1 if you create Flash demos, it creates an HTML file and a SWF file. I heard from someone who has Captivate 3 that it now creates more than 2 files. Is this true for Captivate 4?
    2. I read in Captivate version comparison page that Captivate 4 has the ability to convert your Captivate demo in to PDF with Captivate 4. If so, will the PDF carry the 'demo features' or will it be a standard PDF?
    3. I have an Education version for Captivate 1 so is it cheaper to upgrade to Captivate 4 or just purchase Captivate 4 and does Captivate 4 have an education version?
    Thank you!!

We will be happy to try and help. Indeed you may end up with more than two files when you create content from version 4. Is this a problem? If so, why?

Please restate the question. I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. From what I understand, you end up with a PDF containing your Captivate output.

I think Adobe has education versions for most or all of their products. If Captivate 1 has an education version I'd be surprised if 4 didn't. But only Adobe Sales can definitively answer that. Or perhaps another user that purchased (or was denied purchase of) a Captivate 4 education version.

  • Captivate could not open .cptx

    Captivate v5.5
I have raised this same problem before but was unable to resolve it - and it has happened again.
A colleague has created a project. Saved it and when trying to open it, they get the above message.
I have checked with them and they dont have a .bak ( they will from now on....) and they have cleared their PC temp folder and still it wont open.
They sent me the file and I get the same error message and unable to open the file.
    Two questions please;
    1. Any suggestions as to how to open this file?
    2. What causes this error, as this is now the second time they have suffered this problem in as many weeks?
    Noel

    Hello Noel,
As Rodward Suggested there could be different ways from which the projects get corrupted .
Listed below are the most common causes of Adobe Captivate file corruption:
Editing a project on a network drive or network location.
    Closing Adobe Captivate improperly.
Using an older version of Adobe Captivate (for example, Macromedia Captivate 1.0).
Copying and pasting of objects/slides in an older version of Adobe Captivate.
Using Adobe Captivate on a system that does not meet or exceed system requirements.
Please look for files with extension as .bak or .cpbackup in the location where your source file was saved and try renaming it to filename.cptx .
There is a blog available to recover the project , You can try it and see if it works for you :-

  • Captivate Slides

I hope someone can help me. For whatever reason, whenever I
record let's say a document like MS WORD (or anything for that
matter) in which I'm recording how to input data, when recording is
completed, Captivate only shows a white slide. Nothing and I mean
nothing else is there. Now here's where things get interesting. I
go to my temp files and lo and behold, there are the temp flash
files and when I click on them I see the actual recording. I also
have an older version of Captivate called Macromedia Captivate on
the same system. I don't hink this would cause this.
Anyway, this baffles me and I am quite frustrated. What is
wrong? I have no idea. I have moved the Adobe Captivate program to
my external hard drive thinking that that would help but nothing. I
moved the temp files to the external hard drive and still nothing.
I'm using Windows XP Pro with SP2 installed.
Can anyone offer any suggestions on this as I have
major projects for clients looming and this is not going to
    work.

    Hi smejus57
There is no inherent capability for this built into Captivate
of either version. One possible workaround would be to use
something like TechSmith's SnagIt to capture each Captivate slide
while you are playing the movie. Then import each of the screen
captures into PowerPoint. But that's only if you desire to create
individual slides in PowerPoint that are based on the slides
produced in Captivate. Another option would be to insert the
Captivate movie itself on a single PowerPoint slide and have it
play right there. For information on how to accomplish this,
what is described in the Technical Note. Although it generically
refers to "Flash" content, think "Captivate movie" where you see
    mentions of Flash.
    Cheers... Rick
