Macromedia Dreamweaver Team

Hello
I personally feel as a customer aswell as owning dreamweaver
ultradev 1.0 , dreamweaver mx 2004 that since microsoft has made
these active content changes you should issue updaters for all
versions of dreamweaver. I realise that you dont support older
versions but put it like this we pay alot of money for your
software and well im sure other people will agree you should make
these small changes for everyone. You made the change in
dreamweaver 8 which ive just tried my trial but as ive bought
dreamweaver mx 2004 at the time of u releasing v8 why should i have
to pay to get the update ?
Every email i get from adobe i see this line on the bottom of
the email "Better By Adobe" - hows adobe better if you are not
gonna fix these small problems which mean your users and myself can
continue using your software and create great web experiences
without any fuss.
Being a non profit software developer aswell as a personal
web designer for non profit use i always manage to provide
necessary changes to enable my users to use my software and my
sites without any problems and think about it im just a hobbyist in
all this at the moment. So why cant you as a company do the same i
bet it takes you half the time it takes me to make changes in
software.
Im really hoping someone on the dreamweaver team will take a
few moments of there time to answer my question. Politely...
Kind Regards
Anthony.

It's so easy to do this, why bother?

  • Does the Dreamweaver team work at Adobe?

Here's why I ask.  We're in CS6 now, which is what, the 12th version of dreamweaver?  I keep thinking, maybe there's going to be bridge integration someday.  Mini-bridge would be awesome.  But it's like the dreamweaver team has never seen another Adobe product.  Yes, there's a place in dreamweaver as a bridge option (if the image is already resized, and you want it stored in your root directory), but from Dreamweaver there's no preview in bridge (we can explore with Windows file explorer, that's an option, but no mention of bridge).  I keep hoping I can draw an image placeholder in golive, select a file in bridge, and the option 'Place an optimized file created in these dimensions in your current directories files' will appear, but that option isn't there.  Contribute had that back in CS1, but Dreamweaver makes me work for it.  It gives me the ability to draw a placeholder to dimensions, but then I have to open photoshop, resize it, save it, and find it.
And finding images is hard, because there's no mini-bridge!  Want to view all the images you have in a directory so you can select the right thumbnail to place on your page?  Better use another program.  Sure, there's the asset view, where you can wait while dreamweaver creates microscopic thumnails of every image in every directory, but something as simple as view files as thumbnails - not this time.  Maybe CS7?
And as long as I'm griping about features that every other program in the world seems to have mastered, would it be so hard to have real-time spell check?  I don't think I own another program (or device) that let's me mis-type as happily as dreamweaver.  Yes, if I remember I can run a command to spell check, but why make me remember?  Why not incorporate the same (dare I say technology?) that Microsoft has used for all of this century and much of the last, and just put a squiggly line under my screw-ups?
Please, Adobe, spend a little more time thinking about the people that use your products (I know I'm not the only person who puts images on web pages!), and less time coming up with new programs like Muse so we don't have to use the programs we already love.

Although I know it's never been considered DW is always looking for ways to expand.  I can hear where you are coming from, however, from a priorities perspective from other posts I've seen, removing the old functionality and trying to bring in the standards of HTML5 and CSS3 is more important, because as Nancy and PZ eluded to, people have been doing it this way for years and competitors are coming out with better ways to handle the new technologies and DW needs to be on the cutting edge there.  Based on the web fonts that was introduced in CS6, I would like to see integration with Font Management tools.  With InDesign and Photoshop you don't know how often I rely on those external (non-Adobe) tools to tell me what fonts are in use and to be able to select any font on my system to use on the webpage (given that you have the rights to the font of course).
I will say this about your last paragraph.  I did recently upgrade to the CS6 suite, but your comment there is one of the reasons I have not gone into the Cloud.  I feel like my money would be supporting that product when I don't need/want to use it.

  • I need help finding a workable web program that is not CSS based.  I tried IWeb and it just won't work for me.  Way too limiting.  I've been using a 12 year old copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver, but the new Dreamweaver is CSS

Been building web pages for nearly 20 years, starting with GoLive.  Went to Dreamweaver about 12 years ago, the Macromedia version.  Tried going to iWeb when it came with a new Mac, but found it way too limiting with it's CSS template base.   Unknowlingly, I then bought a new copy of Dreamweaver.   Ooops, Adobe had bought Macromedia and Dreamweaver, too, is now CSS based, which for my money makes it useless to anyone who likes simplicity.   Now I find that even iWeb has been discontinued.  I was told yesterday that Apple doesn't have a web program any more.   At 12 years old, I just don't think it's practical to try to load my old Macromedia Dreamweaver into the new Mountain Lion (I'm getting a new Mac), though it is running, barely, in Snow Leopard.
I need to find a web builder program that will permit simple construction of educational pages, nothing fancy, nothing artistic, just create a page, give it a color, type or drag in text, insert a table, insert pix in the table blocks, add text under the pix... done!    I should note that I am not looking to build traffic.  I teach simple things for free and people who want to learn those things (antique sewing machine repair, quilting, building longbows) find me.
I've downloaded trial versions of half a dozen or so programs and looked at maybe 20 more, but all are either CSS based and drive me insane with requirments for constantly making rules and template models, and/or require that you base your web presence in their server.   Also, many will not work with pages built in other programs.  I maintian a volume of over 1000 web pages, many requiring regular updating, and they have been with the same server for more than 15 years.  I'm not about to change.
So, anybody know a simple, old fashioned web builder that's happpy on a Mac platform?
    Captain Dick

Although not supported anymore, iWeb does still function using Mountain Lion...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/mountain-lion.html
... and you can purchase it from Amazon.
Start with a blank page using the Black or WHite template.
All modern websites use CSS and there are thousands of free templates to be had if you want to use a code entry style application. You will need to go this route if you want to create a site that is viewable on mobile devices although you can create an iPhone version using iWeb...

  • Adobe vs Macromedia Dreamweaver?

First off, I've been having some very frustrating issues with Adobe's version of Dreamweaver. I recently just started using Adobe Dreamweaver CS5, after using Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 for years. When it comes to coding, I have to say Adobe DW has the upper hand, but when it comes to using the design interface Macromedia definitely beats out Adobe DW, and I'm very disappointed Adobe DW has lost its intuitive touch in that area.
Several years ago when I was in Junior High I was using Macromedia DW to build a complex, completely customized site (from scratch), using images I made in Photoshop--and I did it all in the design interface, without needing to touch any of the coding aspects of the program. Now, having just graduated from college, I decided to upgrade try out Adobe DW, but I have had nothing but problems with the design interface. It's clumsy, difficult to use, and far less intuitive than the Macromedia version. When a Junior High student can make an entire website in the design interface, but a college graduate can't, I begin to worry. My question is: when Adobe integrated Macromedia products into its company, did it choose to ditch the design-friendly interface of DW and concentrate on coding instead, or is there something I'm missing?
Now, before anyone mentions that Dreamweaver is first and foremost a coding program (which I believe myself,) I don't understand how or why the design interface has suffered to much from one developer to the other.
    Here's my plight:
I am generally a big fan of Adobe. Being an artist, I spend many hours a week using Photoshop as my primary digital art program. However, I am not a web developer, and I do not plan to be one. I know limited HTML, and I cannot afford to invest time or money in learning code-based languages when all I want to do is make a single personal website for my job portfolio and résumé. But, as an artist I want to be able to do this from scratch, using images I have designed myself. I would like to utilize the design aspect of DW, but Adobe has made this ridiculously difficult, to the point where I haven't even been able to make an index page after many days of frustration.
Any advice or tips on how to jump some of the design hurdles in Adobe DW, or links to tutorials on the design interface would be very helpful and much appreciated. Or, any suggestions for alternate design-friendly products would be great, too. Remember, I still want to ability to create a page from scratch (none of that pre-set layout stuff) in a design interface. If a program exists like this, I have yet to find it, and I would be very grateful to hear about one.
Do not hesitate to ask me any more questions if it can help you with your answer. Thank you very much!

DW is only as good as the skills you bring to the table.  What you learned in Junior High School has all changed.
Modern web standards assert that style (CSS) be separate from content (HTML).  As such, DW changed its UI to support this.   You can style your HTML in code view if you prefer, but a site wide CSS page is infinitely better and more efficient.
    See CSS Zen Garden.

  • OT: The Dreamweaver team's blog post about the Dreamweaver modernization effort

    Hi all,
The Dreamweaver team has shared its thoughts on the rationale behind changes in Dreamweaver CC in its blog post http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2013/06/a-look-at-the-modernized-dreamweaver-cc.html. The blog post also touches upon what's ahead while providing alternatives to some of the older features that did not make it to Dreamweaver CC.
The team has taken into account feedback from several quarters before formulating a reply. I thank all of you on this forum who have provided us with inputs and constructive feedback to help us respond to your concerns.
I would like to particularly call attention to this sentence from the blog post:
We have just begun the modernization process and invite you to voice your opinion. We are committed to taking action on customer feedback and remaining as transparent as possible about our future plans.
In this context, it is worth noting that the Creative Cloud provides us with the flexibility to  quickly try and address issues and areas that fall within the purview of our shared vision for Dreamweaver.
    Thanks,
    Preran

    Namaste Preranji,
    That URL that you posted is broken it should not be "dr eamweaver" but "dreamweaver" I hope that is not a bad omen. (-;

  • OracleAS Portal Extension for Macromedia Dreamweaver

Were you ever wondering, how you can integrate Portal pages seamlessly into your Web site ? You can now using our extension for Macromedia Dreamweaver. Simply create or edit OracleAS Portal UI Templates directly from within Dreamweaver. These UI Templates can be used as "skins" for your Portal page. The extension also provides support for the UI Template substitution tags from Dreamweaver's Insert Panel.
For more information, go to http://portalcenter.oracle.com and click on Integration Solutions.

    Hi,
I am testing the integration and encountering some problems :
my portalTemplate.ear was deployed to a standalone OC4J instance (904).
The portalTemplate.xml contains valid information ( tested with sqlplus ).
The Dreamweaver extension was correctly installed.
When I try to login to Portal, i get a "There was an error connecting to Portal. Please check the db connection in portalTemplate.xml" .
I thought about many potential causes like starting my OC4J instance with -Dhttp.proxyHost and -Dhttp.proxyPort or to provide LDAP users credentials instead of db credentials when login in ... what's wrong ?
PS : When navigating to http://localhost:8888/portalTemplate/portalTemplate?operation=getName I cannot invoke the operation successfully; I get the same error "Error in making the database connection".

  • Are there critical or security updates for Macromedia Dreamweaver since Adobe took over?

Are there critical or security updates for Macromedia Dreamweaver Flash and Macromedia suite since Adobe took over? I can still use it but I am worried about security issues.

Or if I reformat my old Windows XP computer  and reinstall Macromedia Dreamweaver, would it be okay, or safe, security wise? Thanks.
What sort of security are you worried about?  DW creates plain text files and they are as safe as any other text files you create with Notepad or Wordpad.
How old is your DW?  I personally thing#k that it is time for you to get a new version so that you can create websites based on modern standards that are compatible with modern browsers.
Amazon should be able to sell you the product at a very competitive price.
    Good luck.

  • Macromedia Dreamweaver  has gone Italain?!?

I installed an Italian trial of Dreamweaver.. and after
uninstalling it and installing an English version.. my menu bar ,
and pretty much the rest of the program, is in ITALIAN? I have
uninstalled the italian one before intalling the english version,
and I have also been through the registry deleting all references
to dreamweaver before installing. Did I miss somthing out in the
registry? (I also dont have any restore points before I installed
    the Italian version :/)
    Hope you guys can help,
    cheers,
    Andrew

    Andrew,
There's a bug in DW8 where it does not remove the User
    Configuration
folder when uninstalling, so you need to do it manually. So,
    shutdown
DW, manually delete your User Configuration folder, and then
    restart.
The DW8 User Configuration folder on Windows is located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application
    Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\Configuration
Note that the "Application Data" folder is hidden by default,
    so you may
need to change your Folder Options to see it.

You start by defining your site in DW (Site > New Site).
    In that process you
can input your Remote Info. That gives DW everything it needs
    to connect to
your web host. Then you just put your site. If unclear open
    DW Help and
    search:
