Restarting Macromedia JRun CFusion Services
In development and prod here (both MX6.1), there is no doc on
what the CFAdmin password is. In dev, I used one of the tutorials
posted in this forum to remove the password.properties file, then
stop the CF services and restart. It worked fine in dev.
However, in production when I look at the list of CF Services
to stop/restart, I don't see what I saw in dev which was
"Coldfusion MX Application Server." I see 3 JRUN services:
Macromedia JRun CFusion, Admin, and Default Server.
Seeing as it's production I'm a little paranoid about
stopping and restarting the services, especially since the service
I affected in dev isn't in prod.
Can I safely stop/restart one, or more than one, of the JRUN
services above? Is it just the JRUN CFusion Server I need to hit?quote:

Macromedia JRun CFusion service is what is installed when you
do a multi-server install. Chances are, your admin setup the
Default Server service for your system and left CFusion alone.
Generally speaking, I set the Admin service to manual and
stop it unless I need access to JRun.
If everything is correct, you should be able to safely stop
those services and restart them.
Great, thanks! -

ManuIt crashed 3 seconds after it is running. Should be reading some jar file.
Could be a something corrupted a zip file or something. Can you still do a java -version? You may want to try reinstalling 1.4.2_07 -

Which I assume means that it didn't start. Java is Version
1.4.2.
When i run jrun.jar using the jar launcher, and try to start
cfusion, the error message that I get is "Could not start Java
Virtual Machine"
Thanksthat is what i'm trying to find out is how to run the
installer. there is a unix executable called InstallScript_xml in
the update folder (jrun4-unix-en-updater.bin Folder), but beyond
that it is all Greek to me. there is no equivalent of an .exe file
in the Unix updater.
if i am supposed to run it using a command line (
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/jrun/4/Installing_JRun/install4.htm#1134319)
where do i put the .bin folder and then what is the command line
path that i need to run it, if that is how it is executed. like i
said, my knowledge of using the Terminal is zip. sorry for my lack
of knowledge. -

PLEASE Help!!!
BernieThis can happen if you have the default-ear that JRun creates
and you install the /samples files for Flex Data Services installed
together.
The problem is with the commons-logging.jar. If you copy the
commons-logging.properties file from the
samples\WEB-INF\flex\jars\commons-logging.properties directory to
the samples\WEB-INF\classes\commons-logging.properties directory,
it will resolve the problem.
This is listed as Adobe FDS bug: 179227 -

Thanks for any help!
ygdevCF6, Java 1.4.2 and Windows NT - have not seen those for a long time myself.
Perhaps this is the issue from error report:
PSPermGen total 20736K, used 20580K
object space 20736K, 99% used
I guess Java non heap space Permanent Generation is full the next object trying to load into that space can’t fit, plus all the objects in there are referenced so no objects can be removed so free space can’t be made available. One would need to do some work with Java logging and know what JVM.CONFIG looks like to know if that guess is accurate.
You could try increase that parameter 10Mb or so and see what happens? In JVM.CONFIG, JVM args, -XX:MaxPermSize=NNm where NN = numbers.
Needless to say you are running a lot of end of life product and should plan to migrate to something more current.

How do i run java application on IIS
Hi,
Can I run java application on IIS(Internet information Server)?
If yes, How do i do that?
My java application contains JSP,Servlets and EJB.
To run java application on IIS which plug in should i use.
Can anybody help me This is urgent...........
ThanxYou can try using Macromedia JRUN version 4. Any of the version will have an ISAPI filter which you can add to the IIS site of your JSP/Servlet.
The JRUN ISAPI filter will establish connection to the JRUN proxy listener on a port. This port is called proxy listener port. Basically once you install the ISAPI, it will have config file called jrun.ini
Check for the ProxyPort entry in jrun.ini (or something like this - sorry, I can't remember the exact entry). It should match to the proxy listener port where of the server where your JSP/Servlet is intalled.
Good luck ! -
[announce] PortalStudio 2.0 with Interaction Management
MONGOOSE TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES PORTALSTUDIO 2.0 WITH INTERACTION MANAGEMENT
Vendor-neutral portal platform now includes RealCommunities 2.0
collaboration applications and Interaction Management Web services
Houston, October 22, 2001 - Mongoose Technology, Inc., the company that set
the benchmark for Portal Lifecycle Management and the first company to
deliver a complete J2EET-based portal design, assembly, deployment, and
management solution, today announced Mongoose PortalStudioT 2.0. The
product, which provides an integrated development environment and portal
platform, now includes Mongoose RealCommunitiesT applications and
Interaction Management web services for online collaboration. Using Mongoose
PortalStudio and Mongoose RealCommunities, companies can incorporate
Interaction Management into their portals and Web sites to increase employee
productivity, enhance partner effectiveness, and build customer loyalty.
Delphi Group has defined Interaction Management: "Interaction management
refers to web applications used to cultivate relationships among portal
constituents. These person-to-person web services facilitate group
formation, enhance team collaboration, and empower knowledge exchange
between employees, customers, partners, and suppliers. Interaction
Management helps organizations capture and retain intellectual capital,
reduce employee turnover, increase team productivity, and build customer
loyalty."
"Interaction Management is a critical component of any portal strategy, and
necessary for effectively nurturing online community and user
relationships," says Nathaniel Palmer, Chief Analyst at Delphi Group. "In
PortalStudio, Mongoose provides the first comprehensive set of web services
for interaction management, within a application framework specifically
designed for deploying and managing portal components."
"We provide enterprise applications to the health care industry and
international retailers" said Brian Fox, Vice President of
MySoftwarePartner. "Our customers must provide timely and accurate
information to consumers and to government agencies. We are using Mongoose
PortalStudio to provide more useful information by aggregating our systems
with other corporate applications in the Enterprise Portal. We are
incorporating RealCommunities collaboration applications to improve customer
support and to reduce the cost of gathering and reporting consumer data. "
PortalStudio with Interaction Management
RealCommunities collaboration applications are modular WebComponentsT of the
PortalStudio platform that can be embedded into any Web site or portal. They
are supported by RealCommunities Web Services that provide open API's to
gather, store, and act upon person and activity related data.
"Interaction Management is the set of person-to-person web services that
support online relationships and transactions," says Mr. Palmer. The
RealCommunities Web Services are based on the Mongoose 12 Principles of
CollaborationT, and include Identity, Groups, Reputation, Environment and
Communication.
RealCommunities WebComponents provide structured interactions to support
group goals. These collaboration capabilities can be incorporated into new
or existing portals and Web sites. RealCommunities WebComponents include:
Expertise & Skills Directory - This application facilitates the search
for a person or a group with the expertise, skills, service capability, or
reputation matching the user's needs.
Engagement & Feedback - After identifying an appropriate individual or
group, the application allows the user to negotiate an agreement for a
consultative or service relationship with the provider and subsequently to
rate the quality and usefulness of the provider's services.
Messages & Chat - These WebComponents provide Message Boards, Chat, and
Instant Messaging
Question & Answer - This post-a-question and get-an-answer mechanism
can be a public or private dialog and is used for self-help and support
applications.
File Sharing & Collaboration - Users can access content from WebDAV
(Web-based distributed authoring and versioning) clients and DAV-enabled
software packages such as Mongoose PortalStudioT, Microsoft® Office XP,
Microsoft® Web Folders, Adobe Acrobat®, and Macromedia Dreamweaver®. Thus a
Word® user can directly open documents that are stored in PortalStudio-based
portals.
Review & Recommend - This facility enables community members to provide
opinions and ratings, look at what others are saying, and view a composite
score of any participant or document.
Rewards & Incentives - Reward employees, partners, or customers who
participate in desired online activities. The application can be configured
to promote loyalty by providing incentives and rewards for desired
behaviors. The rules are easy to configure and change as business needs
evolve.
Tests & Polls - This utility enables a service provider or group leader
to ask questions of a population. Rules can be applied to responses to
generate scoring reports or individualized actions, e.g., if pass test, then
update reputation and deliver certification by email.
Companies can enhance their ebusiness effectiveness with Mongoose
RealCommunitiesT Interaction Management applications for increasing
productivity of sales teams, cultivating buyer and partner loyalty,
capturing better market data, and accelerating innovation and time to
market.
PortalStudio 2.0 Delivers Fast Results
Mongoose PortalStudio 2.0 is a visual portal assembly environment that
allows users to quickly and easily design portal components, assemble them
into a portal, then validate and deploy their portal solution to, for
example, BEA WebLogic. The simplicity of PortalStudio 2.0's one-click wizard
for configuring and deploying to environments such as BEA WebLogic is
dramatic. Like a "portal compiler," the PortalStudio one-click wizard
eliminates timely editing of complex J2EE and BEA specific configuration
files.
Other powerful features and capabilities in PortalStudio 2.0 include:
Instant WebSkinT Personalization
The presentation of information can be customized to the individual or
company standards using Mongoose WebSkins. Users can pick an existing
WebSkin from the PortalStudio library and re-brand their Web application or
apply a custom look-and-feel in seconds. With PortalStudio's
"person-to-system" Web services, XML-based content can be aggregated,
categorized, searched, and cached, served up to various display devices, and
personalized depending on browser, browser version, user, role, locale,
display device, language, and custom rules. Altogether, users can build an
application once, access it from many convenient devices, and be greeted by
a personal presentation.
Aggregate Corporate Applications
Corporate applications and databases can be aggregated into the portal with
Mongoose PortalStudio's "system-to-system" Web services for aggregation,
mapping & merging, caching, scheduled queries, and Rules and Alarms.
Mongoose PortalStudio includes WebConnectors for XML, JDBC, JCA, and MS
Exchange.
Enhance Existing Applications
Mongoose's "federated" approach means users can use Mongoose's PortalStudio
to create a portal from scratch and deploy it on a J2EE application server
from any of the leading vendors; maintain and enhance existing portal
applications; or embed Mongoose WebComponents into an existing Web
application. WebComponents included with PortalStudio include Table, Tree,
News, Document Sharing, Document Search, Message Boards, Chat, Instant
Messaging, email, and a MiniBrowser with source code.
Availability and Pricing
Mongoose PortalStudio for BEA WebLogic and Mongoose PortalStudio 2.0
Enterprise Edition are currently available and 30-day free trials are

Coldfusion automatically restarted - tracking the cause
Coldfusion is automatically restarting, a lot. It comes in waves, everything seems fine for a while then the server struggles for a few minutes, restarts a lot then settles down again.
I have Fusion Reactor installed, but when CF goes down FR stops logging so it's not really helping. Looking through the archived logs just shows gaps in the logs.
These are all the occourances of the phrase "Coldfusion started" today.

I've been looking at the live server metrics in FR on a second screen all day, the CPU, Memory and requests all seemed fine about 12 midday, then the server rebooted.
Looking at the logs for the hour between 9am and 10am (more than 15 restarts in the hour), the CPU never went over 44% usage and the Memory never exceeded 53% usage - in the recorded stats at least.
There is no JDBC tracking at the moment, so I'll add that to tracking and see if it's MySQL causing a problem, but can anyone help me narrow down the problem, what would cause Cold Fusion to auto restart, and I'm assuming the auto restart is only happening because Fusion Reactor is installed.
It's a Red Hat 5 LAMP stack running Coldfusion 9 and Fusion Reactor 4.5.2I don't have a cfusion-out.log file in {CF_INSTALLATION_DIR}/runtime/logs, but I do have coldfusion-event.log (and archived version).
How much of the logs should I paste up, they're obviously all huge?
There is nothing in the application.log after 3:26 this morning, the server rebooted at 06:28 and at 09:15 so I can't see application.log having anything useful
Here's 50 lines of the cfserver.log, with the 09:15 restart in the middle:

Hf901-00001 won't install at all on some instances.
Hi,
We have multiple servers with CF 9.0.1 installed, all with the multiple servers configuration and all with multiple instances.
Yesterday I started patching to hf901-00001 (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/890/cpsid_89094.html). It worked properly on 30 some instances over 4 servers but for a few instances on one server it just won't install.
The server in question has 7 instances + 1 main cfusion instance. The patching worked fine for 4 of them, but with the others it blew up the CF admin and I had to restore my CFIDE from a backup.
Right now I am trying to get cfusion up-to-date here's what I see.
Server Product: ColdFusion
Version: 9,0,1,274733
Edition: Enterprise
Serial Number ******
Operating System: Windows 2003 OS Version 5.2
Adobe Driver Version: 4.0 (Build 0005)
JVM Details Java Version: 1.6.0_17
Java Vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc.
When I try to update with the hf901-00001.jar file, everything seems to work as it should. I get the "For the hotfix to get applied, you must restart the ColdFusion Service." so I restart Macromedia JRun CFusion Server and it starts up fine.
However when I go back to the CFAdmin I still see
Version 9,0,1,274733.
I don't see Update Level /C:/JRun4/servers/CF_Academic2a/cfusion.ear/cfusion.war/WEB-INF/cfusion/lib/updates/hf901 -00001.jar
So I assume that patch isn't going through. If I look in C:\JRun4\servers\cfusion\cfusion-ear\cfusion-war\WEB-INF\cfusion\lib\updates\ I can see the hf901-00001.jar files though. At this point if I proceed with the rest of the patching (Copying CFIDE, WEB-INF, etc) the CFAdmin starts throwing error --- class def not found on some critical CF parts.
As anyone else had issue with this patch or have any suggestion as what to try next? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.Charlie,
Thanks for the reply, ok going to double check everything point by point. Going to use my main cfusion instance for my testing.
Before patching:
My CFIDE is mapped to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\CFIDE (from the mapping section)
C:\JRun4\servers\cfusion\cfusion-ear\cfusion-war\WEB-INF\cfusion\lib\updates has only one file empty.txt
ColdFusion version is 9,0,1,27473 from the CF administrator information section.
Version confirmed by dumping server.coldfusion.productversion (9,0,1,27473)
Patching process:
Using hf901-00001.jar from update (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/890/cpsid_89094.html#main_ColdFusion_9_0_1)
Successful, I get "For the hotfix to get applied, you must restart the ColdFusion Service"
Restarting "Macromedia JRun CFusion Server"
C:\JRun4\servers\cfusion\cfusion-ear\cfusion-war\WEB-INF\cfusion\lib\updates\ now has 2 files, empty.txt and hf901-00001.jar
Checking log for the restart in C:\JRun4\logs\cfusion-out.log, everything start up as it should but there's an error. No details though, see dump below.

At this point if I continue with the manual steps and copy the file in CFIDE and WEB-INF it break the instance and I can't access it without restoring from a backup. (ClassDefNotFound errors). So the jar isn't being applied for some reason, the log is quiet as to why it's rejecting the file or think it's invalid. It's the same file used to patch the other instances. I suspected a corrupted jar and redownloaded it, same result for those 4 instances only after I patched another production server, our development, acceptance and lab servers the same way.
One thing that I noticed, the one that did patch correctly have chf9000001.jar in their /lib/updates directory which is hotfix1 for CF 9.0.0. I am under CF 9.0.1 so it shouldn't be required right? Not sure why it's missing from the cfusion instance.
I tried copying chf9000001.jar and restarted and it shows up as my update level in CFAdmin. I still get the invalid file error for hf901-00001.jar though.
I never installed Cumulative Hotfix 1 (CHF1) for ColdFusion 9.0.1 (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/862/cpsid_86263.html) as Adobe only recommend it if you experience one or more of the issue listed.
Other points I checked following your post:
1) neo-runtime.xml does have <var name='/CFIDE'><string>C:\inetpub\wwwroot\CFIDE</string></var> so as far as I can tell I am using the correct /CFIDE
2) You say "Or are you using the external web server (IIS or Apache)? If trying one, what happens if you try the other?"
I am using IIS default website to access it (it's currently bound to port 8080). How do I try the other? In JRun Launcher I see my Web port as 8300 for cfusion but if I go to http://localhost:8300/ I get a blank site (it just shows Index of /)
The only thing I have to go on is that the jar isn't loaded as per the log, but there is no error or anything so I am kind of at a lost as to what I can try next. -
CF 9.0.1 with Java 1.6 on Mac OS X Won't Start
Any suggestions? It works perfectly with a plain-jane install of 9,0,0,251028.. but if I update to 9.0.1, here's what I get:
