Macs and printing from server 2008
We have several new mac os lion macs. We have a server 2003 domain and a file and printer server running window server 2008 r2. For some reason in lion the open directly printers on the print server don't show up but the workstation printers do. How can I fix this and list the main open directly printers. The network account server is working correctly and not timing out. Also if this can't work is there a way to make it work like in windows from the network browser?

Yes. Passing DESTYPE=printer in the commandline will print the report to the default printer. You can additionally specify DESNAME='YourPrinterName' so that it prints to the printer specified in DESNAME.

I am wondering if it is possible to install and run Windows Server 2008 on a Mac Mini Server as a VM as my main application uses Windows VisualBasic and Fox Pro and requires a Static IP to connect to it, My other offices connects to Windows Server via RDP.
Basically I am researching a Server for the same purpose and since Mac Mini and OsX both are robust in nature it can fit the bill if every thing work fine.

PrintBrm.exe - Migrating printers from Server 2008 R2 to 2012 R2
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to migrate our printers from a Windows Server 2008 R2 to a brand new Windows Server 2012 R2. While doing this, we also want to switch the drivers to a newer version. As I successfully tried this a year before with the PrintBrm.exe (but from Server
2008 R2 to another Server 2008 R2), I choosed this tool again.
Unfortunately it fails at some point this time. The printer export and import succeeds every time, but if I'm trying to print a testpage on the new server, it won't stop printing hyroglyphs... Only if I install a printer manually (same driver), it works
fine.
Do you have any solutions or ideas for that? For better troubleshooting, I attached an image of one failed testpage and the code I've written, too. Looking forward for some ideas.

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500A and I had no problems printing to it from my Mac or Macbook pro. The macbook is wifi and the Mac is cable, I have recently had the printer replaced with an exact model. Since doing that I can only print from the macbook pro, when I try and print from teh mac it doesnt see the pages. It could be a 10 page document and it will just show two blank pages. I have googled the question and have tried deleating the printer and reinstalling without any luck. When I got the new printer I insalled all the latest drivers thats the only thing different.

MichelleRight click the printer in System Prefences - Print & Scan and use Reset Printing System... and then reinstall the printer, should take less than 5 minutes. Here is a photo showing how to Reset Printing System....

While not able to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.8 or later, given the right software, you can upgrade at least to 10.7.3, and possibly 10.7.5 if you desire. I have found 10.7.5 is not as good at filtering spam though through Mac OS X's Mail.

Move Distribution point from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2012 R2
We have to upgrade one of sccm server 2008 R2 to server 2012 R2 on new box

I need to figure out right steps to move content and packages to new server and rather distributing all packages

We planing to use same Ip and server name and turn off and replace old server.

RJ09As a side note here, I would *not* use the same name. This will be a *new* DP and thus should be treated as such. You'll simply be migrating the content and re-adding it (the DP) to the same boundary groups as the old DP. You'll then retire the old
DP. The IP Address doesn't matter here.

In the printer driver (accessed through the Page Setup button) set the Advanced tab to borderless. Then in the right hand panel under Layout set all the margins to zero.

Sorry but no. iOS does not support connecting a printer via USB, only via WiFi, and without such support there's no way a developer can build an app to provide such capability.

The external HD might be set to Read Only on your eMac. Try this:
If the external HD shows on your desktop, single click the HD to highlight it. From the Finder Menu bar at the top of the screen, click on File, pull down and click on Get Info. At the bottom of window that opens, under Sharing and Permissions, you might see something like:
System: Read & Write
Admin: Read & Write
User X: Read Only
User X being your user account.

I have a new Macbook pro and need to run some Windows software, it appears "Parallel" should work well from what I've have read. Will I have any issues or problems accessing and printing from various printers on my Windows 7 network within Parallel? Is Parallel in fact the best way to go?
First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.

Hey rbrylawski, just wanted to let you know that my ipad email problems have been solved. Called Apple Sup in OZ, I'm in NZ. Daniel Barber was the support tech from heaven!! I was about to return the ipad but solving this issue reset my faith in phone support.....perhaps until I call a differnet companys phone support eh? Anyhow, for reference the fix is below. My accounts are all POP not IMAP, and the primary smtp server setting had defaulted to have SSL switched on and the port was set to 5XX (something, cant remember). Anyhow, SSL was switched off and the port was swithced to 25. VOILÀ!! Settings/Mail, contacts, calendars/My POP mail account/smtp/primary server/ >>> server on, no username and password, use SSL off, no authentication, Server Port 25 Thanks for having a crack at it. Problems with RDP/RDC from Mac OSX to Windows Server 2008 on External IP
We have a customer that is using Mac and Microsoft's RDC for Mac to their servers.
They've just upgraded from Windows Server 2003 to 2008 and can't connect through RDP to their TS server on external IP.
Their servers is not in any domain and it work for them to connect to another Windows Server 2008 that is located in their office when they use internal IP.
The problem is that when using RDC to the external IP they get bellow:
"Remote Desktop cannot verify the identity of the computer you want to connect to. This problem can occur if:
The remote computer is running a version of Windows that is earlier than Windows Vista.
The remote computer is configured to support only the RDP security layer.
Contact your network administrator or the owner of the remote computer for assistance."
From here they can choose "Connect" as they did on the Server 2003 but now they get: "Remote Desktop Connection cannot verify the identity of the computer that you want to connect to.Try reconnecting to the Windows-based computer, or contact our administrator."
and is only able to choose "Ok".
I've changed the settings on the "configuration for host server for remote desktop sessions" under General from "RDP-Security Layer" to "Negotiate" and in this case I get a logon windows where i type in all my information click logon. Here I get another
error message which says something like: (We get it in Swedish). "Connection to the windows-based computer broke since there was a problem associated with the licensificationprotocol... Try to connect again" Where I can choose "Cansel" or "reconect"
but it just keeps poping up if i chose reconnect.
I've tried all settings in the TS server and there is not much to change on the RDP client. We have installed the server certificate on the Mac client but it didn't help.
We've also tried with CoRD and it works fine as RDP from a normal Windows based computer.
The only solution I've found on google is to use CoRD instead but we got problems with that connection since it keep crasching on our computer.
In my eyes the problem is on the security requirements that the RDC for Mac needs but I can't find any inforamtion on MS sites about it.
Greatfull for all tips and trix!I too was having the problem same as everyone else. However, for me the problem all started when I replaced my SSL certificate that was used/selected in the Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration utility, connections, RDP-TCP Properties. The security
layer is negotiate and the certificate is the one selected on that screen. It was not licensing related.
The certificate had expired and I didn't believe I needed it. But turns out I did, so I had to generate and validate a new one using GoDaddy (though they specifically were not part of the problem). As my Terminal Servers (Remote desktop servers)
do not have IIS installed, I was a bit stumped on how to create a new certificate request. I finally found some instructions on how to create a certificate request using the MMC snap-in, advanced operations, create custom request. The template
chosen was "legacy key", and without boring the rest of the details that part was the root cause of my problem. The legacy key was not able to be processed correctly by the Mac RDC client. Neither the official 2.1.1 client or the 2.1.2 download.
The Terminal Server system event log was showing the following two errors, 36874 and 36888. The first one contained the best details and said: "An TLS 1.0 connection request was received from a remote client application, but none of the cipher suites
supported by the client application are supported by the server. The SSL connection request has failed." Upon searching the internet for that, I found this page which described the legacy key problem:

So, my solution most familiar to me was to use IIS and create the SSL certificate request, process that with my 3rd party CA, export the certificate with private key and then import that certificate into all of my terminal servers. Then using the session
host configuration tool, pick the new certificate and the problem was now solved.
