Macs can't see PC on home network running AVG Firewall

I up graded to AVG 8.0 which runs a firewall on all the PC's. Before upgrading from 7.5 to 8.0 PC's could see Mac's and Mac's could see PC's.
Now the PC's can see the Mac's and transfer files, but the Mac's can't see the PC's. Mac's can see Macs with know problem. I've been in contact with AVG but as of yet (3 month's) they have not given me a solution that works.
I though I'd give this a try and see if some one has a solution.
Note: 1 intel IMac G5 & a older G4

Windows firewall just isn't beefy enough for me. This isn't a Hugh problem I can go to the PC's and transfer what I need. Just want it to work like it should. AVG
has been great in the past, but this last upgrade is giving them problem.
I know it should be a easy fix, and should be just a port opening, but every fix they send just doesn't do it. I'll keep trying and if I find the answer I'll post it here for everyone to see.
Thanks

  • Lately my Mac can't see my wi-fi network

I have a wi-fi connection that I'm using all the time.It always worked fine on my Mac but lately it can't see the network and I have to restart the router. After that I can get connected. This never happened before and it's weird because I have an iPhone and an iPad that are connected to the wifi all the time and is working just fine.Is there something wrong with my Mac or is just the router? And if it's the router, why my iPhone/iPad don't have any problems gettin connected?

  • New Ipod Touch 5g can't access Internet in home network (using Linksys E4200 router). But, OK with other Wifi.

Just bought new Ipod Touch 5g. I found out it can't access Internet in home network. not really cannot access, but very slow to open any web page, App Store failed to access, etc. But, OK with other Wifi (office & starbucks). Others existing iOS devices (Iphone4 & Ipad2) have no problem like this. I'm using Linksys E4200 router at home. anyone has any idea why?

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network Settings

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Mac can not see any printers.

Mac can not see any printers.
I have 2 other computers (1 windows / 1 Mac Book) using the printers just fine but once device can not even find a printer. Any ideas?
Printer is Ricoh Aficio MP C3501
The computer could not find the printers so I cleared them from system preferences. Updated everything, including downloading the most up to date driver, restarted and still can not see any printers.
    Thank you for your help,
    Darren D

    Hello ddelin,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I realize that two out of your three computers can see your printer, but one MacBook Pro will not. You have also done some great troubleshooting by deleting the printer, installing drivers, and trying to re-add the printer. If the issue continues, I would suggest resetting the printing system. Please use the attached article for more information.
Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X - Apple Support
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
    Best regards,
    Joe

  • Mac can not see time capsule

i bought Time capsule over Amazon .Air port works fine , but my mac can not see time capsule,,,sometime does , but most of the time not...
It is a problem with time capsule i have 2 T new generation

You don't mention what type of Mac you have, but is there any way you can move it around to see if that affects the problem?  If you hold down an "option" key while you pull down the AirPort/WiFi menu bar item, you should see a value labeled "RSSI" that is the strength of the wireless signal.   A value closer to zero is stronger.  For example, -30 is decent but -80 is poor.
By the way, you don't seem to have declared any of your system details in your profile or didn't select your details to be included in your post.  Those can help people give you correct advice.  To update that, click on "Your Stuff" near the top of a window on these discussion groups, then on "Profile".  Scroll down to "My Products" and either edit an existing one or add a new one.

  • How can i see Log information of Report Run Time?

    Hi Gurus,
How can i see Log information of Report Run Time?, till now i am counted report run time manually. Is there any way i can see the workbook running time in log information?.

There could be a few things -
At one time, you needed to run a separate script to create the tables. I'm not sure that is still the case. If you check the Administrators guide, look into the chapter that deals with the EUL Status Workbooks.
    If you are not logged on as the eul owner, you may not have select privileges, or you may need to qualify the table with the schema (if there is no synonym) - select * from <eul_owner>.EUL5_QPP_STATS;
If you are on 4i, the table is EUL4_QPP_STATS

  • Mac can't see computers on my home network

bought a new imac yesterday. out of box it discovered my home network amnd all the computers that were connected. today, i cant see any of my connected compuers on my home network. I recall, Windows 7 saying a code had to be used for other computers to be allowed the connection but i dont know how to do that on the imac. any suggestions?

First please update your profile, you can find out how by clicking Profile Update. In order to see the other machines on your network you have to turn System Preferences - Sharing on to the preferences you want. Because I don't speak MS Windows you will need to look up the equivilant for Win 7.

  • Mac Pro can't see wireless mini on network

We have a home network involving 3 computers. My Mac Pro (running 10.5.2) and my husband's Windoze machine are both hardwired into the router. In addition, I have a Mac mini (running 10.4.9) that connects wirelessly to the router.
I would like to be able to access the mini from my Pro. But in the "Shared" section of Finder on the Pro, the Windoze machine is the only one that comes up (and I have no interest in connecting to that!) How do I make it so the Pro can "see" the mini? I assume it is because of the wireless?
Even if I get the Pro to "see" the mini, I am still not sure that will do what I want. For now, I am just interested in having access to the files on the mini because occasionally I realize something I forgot to transfer to the Pro. It would nice not to have to take a USB drive to the living room every time that happens.
Thinking more long term (once I'm convinced I'm done getting everything off the mini), I would like to make the mini into music server where iTunes on the Pro would access its library it to play music while I'm working (as well as sync my iPod) AND have the stereo in the living room be able to access the entire library as well. Is that even possible and if so, would the mini be hardwired to the Pro and communicate wirelessly with the stereo or vice versa? I'm confused.
I love the Mac but I've always only ever had one at a time so the whole networking concept is a new area for me. If anyone has suggestions or links to good resources, I'd very much appreciate it!

    Hey Graham,
Thanks so much for your reply. Very helpful. I did turn on PFS on the Mini and it does now show up in the Finder sidebar on the Pro. However, the only folder I can get to is "Drop Box" and when I dbl-click that, it says I do not have sufficient privileges to access (doesn't ask me for a password or anything though).
But even if I got the access to work, I don't really want to have to run out there and start PFS every time I need something. If I'm going to do that, I might as well take my jump drive out there and just get what I need and bring it back.
Until I am ready to make the Mini into a media center, I just want to have access to it from my Pro without having to leave my chair. I would be fine with moving the Mini into the office where the Pro is if I could ditch the monitor that is attached to the Mini. Is there is a way to hook it up to the Pro so that the Pro just sees it as a hard drive and I can copy freely from it? Would that be an option? I don't even really need to to be able to start up from it (although I suppose there could be a need for that, potentially).
Then once I'm sure I'm done with it, I could always move it back to the living room later when we are ready to do the media center thing. I really like your ideas/tips on that!
    Karen

  • Wireless Internet works but Macs can't see each other on same network.

    First: Ahh!
Second: I have an iMac & and MacBook connected to the same Wifi connection at home. I'm using the Belkin F5D8235-4 v2000 with Firmware 2.01.08. The most up to date firmware and Mac compatible. Both have IP addresses within this range 192.168.2.random number. Both have "File Sharing", "Remote Login" and "Remote Management" check off. Both always see the Belkin n+ under shared items (the Belkin +n has a memory stick attached to it). Here's the kicker...when I restart for a few minutes I can see both computers under Network and Shared. Then poof, it's gone. As I write this my MacBook can see my iMac but my iMac is Stevey Wonder, not a thing in sight.
Why won't my iMac and Macbook play nice? Are iMac's rasist? Not implying Stevey Wonder is rasist. Wow, back call on my part.
Ohh, one more thing (feels good to use that line in a Mac forum). I have installed Windows 7 on both computers, it problem also happens in windows too. I'll bring that to another forum, just thought you should know.
If you need more details or want to know what kind of sandwich I'm making just write below. It's ham. Help me please.
Third: Ahh! This is the best sandwich ever.

  • Two Macs can't see each other on same network

We have an iMac and a Mac Book Pro on the same apple network at home. The iMac can see and connect to the Pro and exchange files but the Pro can't see the iMac in Go > Network. All sharing settings are the same. Any thoughts welcomed.

How many machines are on your network? If you have over 7, then here should be an entry called "All..." in Shared in the Sidebar. Click on that. It will show you all the servers that are available on your network. You can also get to this list via Computer (Command-Shift-C) and click on Network.
Shared in the sidebar shows a max of 7 servers, with Back To My Mac's at the top (if any), then servers you have mounted share points on (if any), then the top 7 (in alphabetical order) servers in Network (a.k.a. "All...").
    Hope that helps.
