"made for iPod" product will not charge iPod
I bought an RCA radio/speaker dock for my iPod. The iPod will play on it but will not charge. The RCA manual says the iPod will charge if it is in standby mode. Is there a standby mode on the nano 3rd gen? I've contacted RCA support & they have been no help at all.
Thanks for the help.
Have no idea what they mean by standby mode unless they are referring to holding down the play button and putting it to sleep.
Sounds like this is an older unit that is not able to charge the latest ipods, beginning with the 3rd Generation Nano. I would return the unit.

HELP!! Ipod touch will not charge or turn on
My ipod touch will not charge or turn on. I think the battery went dead, but now it won't even turn on or charge. My computer does not even recognize that it is plugged in. I have tried to charge it on other devices and get the same result. Can anyone help?
TRY GEORGE GUERRERO'S ANSWER FIRST.
Plug it into the computer for about 15 minutes.
If it starts to turn on after about 15 minutes then unplug it.
As it is turning on hold down BOTH THE POWER AND THE HOME BUTTON on the itouch for 15 seconds, or until it flashes white or just turns back off.
Then RELESE THE POWER BUTTON BUT STILL HOLD DOWN THE HOME BUTTON.
Then plug it back in.
The computer should reconise your ipod. -
My ipod touch will not charge or register in itunes. It keeps turning off and then shows the apple logo. I have tried holding down the button and plugging it in. It will show the red battery for a second and then turn off? Any other suggestions?
I have checked for problems with the connections, but from what i can see with the naked eye, nothing appears abnormal. It is very strange, and very sudden. It just stopped in the middle of a charge. The apple store is my next step. I just wanted to see if anyone on here had some extremely eye-opening solution or check. thanks though!
I'm also within warranty, so it's not a huge problem. -

my ipod shuffle will not charge fully, the light that comes on when i try to charge just flashes red, and the battery lasts for about 20 mins max and then advises battery is low and then dies!
That's often an indication that the dock connector at the bottom of the phone is either dirty or damaged. Blow compressed air on it and/of gently brush it with a clean, dry toothbtush. Also be sure the usb cable is able to make a good connection to the connector without being obstructed by your case. If it's a tight fit, try removing your case.

When i plug it in to my compuer it shows an empty battery with the charge symbol then after a while it shows the apple logo like it is turning on then nothing happens and it goes back to the battery.I haven't left it overnight to charge. Is there a difference between letting it charge overnight and an hour or two with no results? The ipod does not even recognize that the cord is attatched.

My ipod classic will not charge or turn on
MY IPOD CLASSIC WILL NOT CHARGE OR TURN ON
Important: iPod touch cannot be charged with a FireWire power adapter or FireWire-based car charger.
Verify that the power source being used is working properly.
If connecting to a computer's USB port, verify it is a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Note: The USB ports on most keyboards don't provide enough power, so if you're connecting iPod touch to a keyboard, make sure it has a high-powered USB 2.0 port.
Verify the computer is turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPod touch is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPod touch battery may drain.
Try another USB port.
Try charging from a USB charger if available.
If that does not help, try another USB cable if available.

5gen video iPod will not charge. Only states in LCD window: please wait. Very Low Battery. Can anyone help?
That's usually a good indication that your iPod battery's is shot and in need of a replacement. If you'd like, Apple can swap out the battery for a flat fee.
http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipod
Otherwise, you can also send it to a third party repair service center that could do the same job for a little less. Google "ipod battery replacement" for different options.

Generic USB auto charger will not charge iPod Classic 80Gb
I have two generic USB auto plug adapters that deliver the USB standard 5VDC, 500Ma output. My 3G iPod charges from either of these using the Apple-supplied USB cable. My iPod Classic 80Gb appears to receive power from these, but will not charge. Is an Apple-sanctioned auto charger required, or does the Classic not charge from such sources? If the later, which I doubt, back it goes to as this "breaks" the Classic for me. If the former, might anyone know why this is the case with the Classic? I sincerely hope it's not a thinly veiled excuse to drive sales of Apple-sanctioned auto chargers which may also drive me to return it out of resentment (I returned a Creative Xen Micro Photo since it also would not charge from these whereas the older Zen Micro did. The Micro Photo required a $30 charger from Creative with a large, in-line "lump" possibly for the "magic charging handshake").
Thanks for the reply.
"I assume the iPod charges with the SAME cable when plugged into a computer?"
Yes, the iPod charges with the same cable when plugged into a computer, even one without iTunes installed.
I opened both of the chargers and see that all four lines are connected. I'll break out my voltmeter and see what pins are powered and compared them with those on my computer and go from there. According the following URL, pins 1 and 4 are for power and pins 2-3 are for data: http://www.hardwarebook.info/UniversalSerial_Bus(USB)
I may also try a dedicated iPod auto charger as these are not too expensive.
