Made two photo books in iPhoto and go to buy books and software locks up and won't take my order. What gives? Need to order for Christmas...

Does anyone else have this problem? Volume problems maybe. On the line with Apple folks and three persons later Lillian told me to try again later. Not much support. I would really like to order these photobooks today for Christmas!

Unless you opened the Library with a later version, then this is sometimes a symptom of database corruption.
And one cause of library corruption is operating without adequate free disk space
You must have a minimum of 10GB of free disk space to safely operate your Mac. Since you are having notices of inadequate space you almost certainly have much less than that - and the problem is exactly that - nothing to do with any program including iPhoto or IPLM
You must free up space now before you can do anything to recover your photos - adding an external drive is the quickest and easiest

    I just tried to move my old iPhoto Library from the G4 to a new Macbook. The G4 and files were very old, from 2001.
    When I opened Iphoto for the first time, it said it needed to "upgrade" the library", so I selected OK. It gave a message that this could take an hour or longer with a lot of photos -- I have around 9,000 stored so I figured it would take awhile.
    It finished in about 3 minutes, but there were no photos or albums to be found.
    I checked on the drive and iPhoto has converted the old library files and photo files to a "package" called "iphoto library" that has no file extension.
    If I show package contents, I can see a whole raft of new files, folders etc. I can see a file in there called "library6.iphoto" Some folders appear to be organized by years, if I dig down in the folders, all the photos appear to still be present. The general size of the "package" file is almost identical to the old folder, around 25.3 megabytes, so it seems all the photos and information is there, but its just not reading it.
    Now IPhoto still says " to begin, connect a camera, drag photos to iPhoto, or import a file.....
    I downloaded the "library manager" file and pointed it at the "iphoto library" file but it does not even see it.
    Grrr... what can I do to recover this.

    If the code you are trying to enter has letters then you are not looking at a serial number.  A serial number only contains numbers - 6 sets of 4 numbers.
    Find your serial number quickly
    You might be dealing with a redemption code.  This is especially so if you purchased it from a store or the like.

    You don't need to create an account.   Your use your Apple ID to log into Facetime.

    This topic is also discussed in an conveniently archived discussion.  My opinion is anything downloaded and not purchased in the Apple iTunes store is not truly compatible with iTunes and/or iPod Classic - all of the potential space - unusable.  I am not holding my breath for an answer nor give a **** if they do respond.  No more Apple products for me, now I need to figure out how to transfer everything purchased onto another medium.

    Hello, what all especially USBwise do you have connected to it?
    One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
    If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
    Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
    Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Startup right after that for clues.

    Hi, I have this problem too, it is SO frustrating and makes me never want to use iPhoto again! I live abroad and want to send a photo album to Canada but my credit card billing address is in the US and apparently shipping and billing addresses must match. I have already spent DAYS and DAYS making the album. There must be another company that allows shipping to Canada with a US credit card. Anybody have any suggestions?

    For an online project, I need to take two photos and put them together with a line down the middle to separate them. It's two people and we have two separate photos but we want to use them in one photo space, if that makes sense. How do I create one photo out of two and separate the pictures in the middle with a vertical line? Thank you for your help.

    That would depend on what your level of expertise is. Most can be run in demo mode so you can try them and see which works best for you. If you intend to get into a lot of editing I suggest you try Photoshop Elements 9 for Mac. It can do some very sophisticated editing like this and this.
    OT
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    NOTE: this is not the same as routinely backing up your entire iPhoto library folder to protect your photos. It only protects the loss of your organizational efforts that the database file contains.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

    Hi,
    My friend has just spent a few hours designing a book in iPhoto 6 on my OS X Powerbook running 10.4.8, I attemtped to consolidate all my photos in just the iPhoto library recently but for some reason it has made aliases of all my files and not actually copied all of them into the library folder for some reason?
    Anyways, now I get error message that iPhoto cannot find these certain 30 or so movie files. Normally you can click cancel and after pressing it 30 or 40 times it goes away (once for each file it cant find). This came up after the account details, which is a result of pressing 'Buy Book' but then clicking on cancel has brought up the spinning wheel.
    Unfortunately we did not quit from iPhoto first ....
    a) is there any way that the book might have auto saved?
    b) is there anyway to recover a temporary book file I can then load again in iphoto
    c) any ideas how I can get iPhoto responding again (force quit says not responding)
    d) am I screwed and will have to make the book again...

    I wasted the best part of my sunday on this (not good and not pleased...)
    I set up a photo book for the first time and went to buy it and although I have enabled 1-click (online) the first Order Book screen states that I need to enable 1-click (also shows the price in yen for whatever reason?). The screen only allows me to Set Up account and then conveniently does not list australia as a valid country (no jokes please from the international community!). I'm going round in circles and it is getting late - any advice would be appreciated.

    I'm really sorry to hear about troubles with iPhoto. I've had a quick look at apple.au and you certainly should be able to order a book through iPhoto. You mention that when you tried to set up payment it appeared in Yen? I'm wondering, did you buy or register your Mac in Japan? I'm guessing that something is amiss with your account.
    I'm afraid I'm clutching at straws at the moment, but hopefully someone else in this group will be able to help. In the meantime I'll have a search around to see if I can find more info for you.
