Madfuload: A firmware uploader for M-Audio devices

My third PKGBUILD!

M-Audio (formerly Midiman) has released several pieces of hardware that require a firmware upload upon every hotplug. madfuload is a utility that detects the affected hardware via udev rules and uploads firmware appropriately.
Without madfuload, these select devices will appear to be ready but will not respond when interacted with by the user.
This is the initial release. As of now, the firmware only gets uploaded to the devices the first time they are present. I will try to fix this soon and upload a new package. If you have a solution, please post it as a comment and I will update it!
DON'T FORGET to adjust the sound card levels on your mixer! If this is the second sound card on your computer and you are using alsa, adjust it by using the command "alsamixer -c 1" See the man page for alsamixer for more details.

Any updates?
We have 2 iPads (one is a iPad 2 and the other iPad 1 32gb wi-fi's) and a MBA.
Everytime I get online with the MBA it slows down my wifes iPad2 to a crawl.
I just downgraded to 7.5.1 and it seemed to help some, but both iPads will drop from 20Mbps to 3-5Mbps if I use the MBA at the same time.
If you use both iPads at the same time which ever one you hit "restart test" on first will be the fastest. Each will run from 7-11Mbps.
I bought my AE as a refurb from Apple approx 5 months ago.

  • Fix for Missing Audio Device in WinXP S

    My sound card disappeared from the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties panel. I tried cleansweeping and reinstalling to no effect. I could watch my card disappear from the panel as Windows went through startup after I reinstalled it. My card , a Sound Blaster Li've!, was listed under the hardware tab but the drivers were listed as "Driver installed but not started". Creative Diagnostics said I passed the hardware detection test but failed the driver tests. I am using the drivers from the Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG) version .0.0..
    I found this fix after searching with Google. The site is www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxpt/t06642744. It resolved my problem. I did use DH Driver Cleaner Pro to remove any Creative drivers. You need to know that the hardware scan and reinstall in step 6 can take several minutes. I also removed hidden copies of my Creative devices in step 5. The revealed hidden devices have greyed icons next to them.

    RE>Hello to all,
    I got much useful information from this topic, but none of them resolved my sound

    removing the SB card and enabling the built in VIA AC 97 without success.
    Then I tried removing and adding back the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator
    as you suggested without success.
    Then I went further reinstalling some of the kernel sound drivers and that resolved
    the issue in my case so I describe my ste
    ps.
    First I suggest everyone to create a System Restore point to have something to return
    in case of something goes wrong. You can boot XP to safe mode by pressing F8 at the
    beginning of the Windows startup and select Safe Mode if the system doesn?t start
    in normal mode and use System Restore there to go back to the working configuration.
    Then try these steps only if the others mentioned here don?t help. I had everything
    ok in Device Manager and every driver was running that should, compared to an other
    working system, but the symptom was that there was no sound coming out from the sound
    card. Everything was OK in the Device Manager, but in the Sounds and Audio Devices
    Control Panel there was only the Voice recording option on the Voice tab, and the
    MIDI music playback (without the sound card being in the list) on the Audio tab acti've.
    The others like Voice playback, Sound playback, Sound recording and everything on
    the Volume tab was grayed out.
    . Create the restore point.
    2. On the System Properties panel, Advanced tab, Environment Variables button, under
    the User variables click New and create a variable named devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
    with the value of .
    3. Open the Device Manager and select Show hidden devices from the View menu.
    4. Under the Sound, video and game controllers group, find your sound card(s) and
    disable it/them (don?t need to uninstall).
    5. Then uninstall the following devices:
    - Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter
    - Microsoft Kernel System Audio Device
    - Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer
    - Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver
    6. Select Scan for hardware changes from the Action menu. Now the system should redetect
    and reinstall the deleted devices automatically. You may get non signed driver warnings,
    click continue.
    7. Enable the devices you disabled in step 4. You may need to restart the computer.
    The problem should be disappeared, you should be able to play sounds.
    Good luck!

    Hi
    You should check if the microphone has not been disabled.
    Go to control panel -> sound -> recording tab
    There you should make a right click and should enable the both options called show hidden devices and show disabled devices.
    Now you should see 2 microphone entries; one internal mic and second should belong to the external mic jack.
    If you want to use the internal mic then mark it as default device.

  • LP 9.1.7 keeps asking for "airplay" audio device

    I've seen posts regarding this issue that are 2 years old. Any updates? This is most annoying:
    Logic 9.1.7 keeps "scanning your system for audio devices" and asks if I want to use "Airplay" which I do not. I cannot set a *default* interface to my MOTU in the Audio Preferences for i/o device. This started happening when we got an AppleTV. (Airplay mirroring is OFF)
    I can simply turn off wifi, but why should I have to? Why does LP keep "scanning" for audio devices? That makes no sense. Can't it just be happy with the one I paid for and has been connected for 2 years?

  • Phone Firmware report for hard coded devices

    To roll out new phone firmware in UCM 9.1.2, we opted as first step after lab test to update some individual phones in production by hard coding the "Phone Load Name" field for several beta users.  We also have some vpn phones that we hard coded with specific firmware load value that resolves some vulnerability.  What I'm looking to do is figure out a query to report on all the phones that have been hard coded, and a way to bulk change these values or remove it.
    Thank you

    Unified Reporting -> System Reports -> Unified CM Phones With Mismatched Load will tell you what phones have an explicit phone load specified.
    You can also use the command line to get the information too:
    admin: run sql SELECT name, description, specialloadinformation FROM device WHERE specialloadinformation IS NOT NULL AND len(specialloadinformation)>0
    You could use the SQL command line to update the firmware information, but BAT is a lot easier in this case.

  • Low Audio Level for USB Audio device

    Hello,
    I'm recording a voice over for a keynote presentation.
    -The internal mic records just fine, but when I use an external usb mic, the level into keynote registers very low.
    - in the system preferences the audio input for this exteral mic is perfectly fine.
    -the mic has been tested in a pc and records just fine at a good level
    -the same thing happens when I run a mic through a mixing board and use the line in on the mac...it shows up fine in audio settings, but has a low level in keynote.
    any ideas?

    I'm glad you mentioned the preset, Silal. I kept meaning to bring that up, but forgot.
    Set Preprocessing to None. That will keep high level short duration sounds, like drums, etc., from overtaking your dialog, and crushing it.
    The way DIALNORM is intended to work, you set it to the average level of your dialog from your editing app. If you're working in FCP, then that might be something like -12. That setting will cause the player to attenuate the level so dialog is attenuated by 19dB (-31 minus -12 = 19dB of attenuation by the player).
    That, in turn, allows the ridiculously loud music and nat sounds in the film soundtrack to sound "more natural", as they blast your ear drums into bits. "More natural" means "much louder than dialog, just like they are in real life".
    Bah, humbug! Let me hear what the talent is saying. I don't care if I can hear every nuance of that rock ballad, I just want to be able to follow the story, the plot.
    Hey, I'm an old dude, you whippersnappers.
    But back to the point, by setting DIALNORM to -31, the player works out the math like this:
    -31 minus -31 = 0dB of attenuation
    So, your level should be exactly what it was before the compression/conversion. Why it isn't is a mystery, still.

  • Error installing Driver for audio device in MS-6585 Motherboard

    Hi,
    I have MS-6585 Max L motherboard. I installed windows 2000 with SP4. When I tried to install driver for the audio device, it always fails with the following error.
    An error occurred during the installation of the device.
    The data is invalid.
    And in the Device status in the properties menu
    The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
    I tried to download the latest driver using the "Live Update" and it didn't help. I tried few other options suggested in the web.
    The usual cause of this problem in Windows 2000/XP systems is Registry keys that are set as read-only.
    From the Start menu, click Run and enter RegEdit to run the Registry Editor. Open the following - Keys => HKey_Local_machine => System => CurrentControlSet => Enum => PCI.
    You will see several keys in this form - Ven_xxxx - where xxxx represents a string such as - 1102&Dev_004&Subsys_00011103&Rev_04.
    In each of these folders there is another folder that has a long numerical name. Open each of these folders, and look for the DeviceDesc entry that matches the type of hardware that you are trying unsuccessfully to install. Use the right mouse button to click on the Ven_xxxx entry for that device, and click Permissions. If it is set to read-only, then that is the cause of the problem. To rectify it, change it to Allow Full Control.
    I'm stuck and I am not sure what else to try. Its not clear to me where the problem is. Is there any log I can look? Any other suggestions please
    BTW, It used to work..I had to reinstall windows 2000 and after the clean/format reinstallation it stopped working.
    thanks for any help
    Suresh

    It might be that the drivers are for WinXP. Are you 100% sure they are for 2000? Can you get a copy of XP, it would prabobly solve youre problem.

  • Can't choose audio device inputs...

    I can't seem to select the desired inputs on for my audio device in STP.
    One day it worked, but most others I can't configure it.
    I can choose the device in the inputs tab, but it only lists the device name (AudioFire4) and not listing the different inputs available..
    Is there some trick to getting this to work in STP? Everything works great in all other apps i use.. Peak, Live, Logic..
    How should I be configuring Soundtrack Pro?
    OS and Apps are all up to date, and I'm using an Echo AudioFire4 firewire interface..

    I am also perplexed and frustrated with this issue. I
    have tried every combination and order of set-up but
    can't get my M-Audio Black Box audio interface to
    show up in STP. I can record just fine in GarageBand
    but the interface doesn't even appear in STP. All
    software is the latest including drivers, firmware,

    is just plain glitchy? Or is STP fussy?

    UPDATE: After a lot of uninstalling and re-installing and plugging and unplugging (several times), I think I have stumbled upon the issue. Previously, I had the the interface plugged in through a Belkin powered USB hub. I tried plugging the interface directly into the front USB jack of the G5 and - voila - it works. I can see it and record through it in STP. Mystery solved, I guess. Could this be the problem some others have had in seeing their interfaces in STP? Good luck.

  • Conexant audio device driver won't install on T510 with windows XP SP2

    I am having trouble in installing audio driver for Conexant audio device on an SSD with windows XP SP2 installed already.  After running the installer, it tries for a while, and says media device can't be found.  But booting from the win7-loaded internal drive, I can see it in the device manager.  I also see a few devices like base system device(?) in 'Other devices' category.  Could you help me get audio on the windows XP?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    Thank you very much for your reply that led me to helpful information. Unfortunately, it didn't fix the issue, but I think I'm closer to the resolution of this issue.
    So, I believed I installed Intel chip set and power management drivers, but did uninstall and re-install including .NET F/W 3.5.  Unfortunately it didn't work.
    Your link led to pages of unknown/driver-less drivers and made me check more detail.  I had only 2 PCI devices left in 'Other devices' category, so I checked the details of those as below:
    1. PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0BE3: I searched this item on the web, finding that the vendor is Nvidia, but could find device 0x0be3.
    2. PCI\VEN_8086&DEV3B56: this is vendor Intel, but again no device found.  The closest one is SoL device, though.
    So, it appears somehow the Conexant audio device is not even in 'Other device' category, and the intaller can't find the device.  I wonder if some other driver grabbed this device, so it's not available for driver installation.  I will do more investigation, but please help me address this.  Thank you again, and in advance.
    P.S. : I don't see the SoL driver installed after installing Intel drivers, and there is no 'Ports' category in the device manager, either.

  • Detect audio device without jmf-registry

    Hi,
    I am working with Java Media Framework for some time now. But now I got a problem which I couldn't solve although I tried to find a solution on the jmf-web page.
    With the function autoDetect (com.sun.media.protocol.vfw.VFWSourceStream.autoDetect(i)) it is possible to accesses a video capture device without the JMF registry.
    Unfortunately I couldn't find out how I could access during runtime and without the JMF registry on an audio device (microphon).
    I would be very thnakful if someone could solve my problem.
    thx!
    the_greg

    thanks Owen,
    but I'm sure that it has to works without jmfinit and the registry :-)
    An example, how you can get the webcam without jmf.properties (to test it, you can rename the registry):
    private CaptureDeviceInfo getVideoDevice() {
    Vector deviceList = CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList(null);
    CaptureDeviceInfo devInfo = null;
    if (deviceList.size() == 0) {
    String name = VFWCapture.capGetDriverDescriptionName(0);
    System.out.println(name);
    if (name != null && name.length() > 0){
    devInfo = com.sun.media.protocol.vfw.VFWSourceStream.autoDetect(0);
    System.out.println(devInfo);
    return devInfo;
    In my opinion as this is possible for a video-device, it ought to be possible for an audio device also. (??)

  • 760GMA-P34: VLC, MPC-HC etc. only Waveout audio device works?

    any ideas on why I can only get audio through the waveout device with VLC, MPC, GraphEdit etc.? Using DirectSound as the device results in an 88890008 error. Running Windows Pro 8.1 Update 1 (64).
    I can get audio in web browsers and running the windows control panel tools. Haven't tried any games yet. Not sure how the audio is being routed.
    I have the latest Realtek drivers that apparently will work, 6.0.1.7293
    I've tried removing the drivers several time to no avail. There was an odd bug in Win 7 referenced here to do with ActiveMovie, but it didn't fix it.
    Any thoughts?

    Nope, no codec packs.
    I'm quite confident it's something to do with the installation of the Realtek HD drivers. The Realktek HD Manager only half functions, for instance you can change output/input uses of the jacks etc. but the audio tests within the application itself do not work; play or click on a speaker and it's silent. Go through the Windows control panel audio configuration though and the test sounds play through front & back speakers. Luckily, the default system path for the audio device works.
    For most uses it's fine. The issue appears to be when an application doesn't use the default system audio device, but instead uses the DirectX audio path and doesn't allow one to alter from that. I'm guessing that the Realktek HD Manager tool is (ironically) going through DirectX, which is why it doesn't work. VLC does allow the audio output device to be selected (i.e. wave out) so one can make it function. But, for instance, I installed Cyberlink's PowerDVD yesterday and there is no audio. Likely it's trying to go through the DirectX audio device and there is no link there to the Realktek HD output device. PowerDVD (at least the version I'm using, 10) doesn't let you select which audio output device to use.
    Unfortunately, the Window's DXDiag troubleshooting tool doesn't find anything wrong. I'll need to find some DirectX management tools and see if I can fix what I believe to be a broken link in the registry.
    I'm guessing this is another case of drivers written for Windows 7 where MS made a slight change in Windows 8 that the driver installation doesn't address.
    I'll try talking to Realktek as well but I imagine I won't get very far.

  • No "connect to audio device" option for E71

    I've been trying to connect my nokia BH-102 headset to my E71, but when I go to the Paired Devices tab and press the option button, the "connect to audio device" option is not there. The only three options that appear are "new paired device", "help", and "exit." I've searched for soltions for this online, but thus have not come across any mention of this problem. Am I missing a firmware update of some kind or is this an entirely unique problem?

    Solved my question. Somehow 20 minutes of searching the forums didn't turn up the solution but when I posted my question the box on the right had 3 posts with a similar question and solution. Sorry this has become a repeat post.
    I would delete it but can't.
    Here is a link to the solution that worked for me. I used ONYX.

    My IPad 2 external speaker does not work and the original headphones have popping sound when used. This all occurred at the same time as my IPhone and IPod headphones only plays mono (and no, the "mono" option is not on) with the original headphones, as well as, other headphones tested.  How can there be audio issue for all these devices at the same time?
    As you may have noted from the list of Apple devices I own, I believed in the Apple and the products it was producing; but it is hard to believe from my experience and the other voices within the Apple Community that we are all experiencing the same hardware issues. Especially since I recently, I upgraded to an IPhone 4g (no, my faith in IPhone 5 series is very little) and is experiencing the same audio problem as described above. So now, I am off to the Apple store again to be told that it’s a hardware problem on new IPhone. Really? Apple, what happen to the pride in the product you were producing?

    Everyone does things a little differently. I love to "jam " along with iTunes ( or old Lp's) . Always have. That's where/how I've learned to play .
    I'm sure leonieDF is giving a proper way to jam along on a keyboard with an iTune. He blows my mind all the time with what he knows. Nuff respects to him !
    What I do is make a GB project I call "Jam With". I'll make several new tracks that are blank. Just has a few instruments named in the blank tracks. You can change those per song ...
    Because I'm not concerned about changing the pitch / key.... of the iTune or the tempo ... I can simply play along with it.

  • Inspiron 1525 not able to select internal mic for webcam, nor is it showing up on Control Panel, Sound, Audio Devices

    Initial problem was Dell Webcam video recording records no sound.
    In Control Panel, Device Manager, Sound Video and Game Controllers there are two High Definition Audio Devices listed: Location 1 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) - I deduce this is the internal mic; and Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) - I deduce this is external microphone jack. Both have the same driver version.
    The Control Panel, Sound, Recordings Tab showed 2 devices that looked identical except the bars that show green with volume were only on the first one, which is also the default one, and would detect sound if you got real close to the webcam mic when talking. Both devices displayed as 'working'.
    Accessories, Sound Recorder recordings are silent no matter how close you get to internal webcam mic.
    Dell WebCam Audio Source tab has two selections, both reading Microphone (3 - High Definition Audio Device). Both selections record sound with the EXTERNAL MIC jack. There is no way to select the internal webcam mic, it is not an option.
    Per instructions found on the web, I uninstalled the first device only in Device Manager and rebooted. The same driver version as before was installed. But now the settings have changed. Device Mgr still shows Loc 1 and Loc 2. However, under the Sound, Recordings tab there are still 2 devices, but the first one says 'currently unavailable' , is still the default, and the sound bars that go green for audio testing are on the SECOND device now instead of the first one. If you check the Properties for each device, they BOTH are showing the same location Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus), i.e., the external mic jack.  Loc 1 device (built in mic) is not showing up!!
    Accessories Sound Recorder works with the EXTERNAL mic. (How does it know which one to use, it's not giving me a choice?)
    So the Location 1 device (internal mic) is not showing up anywhere besides the device manager. I want to use the internal mic for skype and webcam. Somehow I need to get the Loc 1 device to show up on the Sound - Recording tab and in the Webcam Audio Source list? What do I do?
    Thank you in advance for your help.
