Mag Safe charger says "Not Charging" when i plug it in

this just started today. Sometimes the light on the charger blinks orange. But when i plug it in it says "not charging". And the battery isnt fully charged because it says (0:55) when I unplug the charger. Whats going on?

What you're describing is mostly normal.
The power management software will not charge your battery until it dips below 95% charge. This saves you battery cycles and ultimately helps the battery to last longer before needing to be replaced. When the battery is less than 100% but more than 94% charged, the menubar display will read "Not Charging." Nothing to worry about there.
However, if you're seeing "Not Charging" and the battery is at 94% or less, then there's a problem. When you see "Not Charging" again, change the display to show percentage, and verify that it is 95% or more.
What is definitely not normal is the blinking; start by resetting the SMC:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
If the blinking persists, there may be a hardware issue which Apple should repair as you're still under warranty.
It might also be helpful to check the health of your battery. Go to the Apple Menu -> About This Mac -> More Info, and click on Power from the left side of the System Profiler window that appears. Copy and paste into this thread the "Charge Information" and "Health Information" about your battery. That can give us a sense of whether there really is a problem with the battery.

Do you mean the AC wall adapter or the cable when you say "charger"? Neither is a charger; the charger is built into the phone. You need to do some basic troubleshooting. First, try a different cable with the same AC adapter. Then try a different USB source such as the USB port on your computer. If you get the same message after both tests the problem lies in the phone. The most common cause of this message is dirt, moisture or pocket lint in the lightning connector on the bottom of the phone. Inspect it with a bright light and clean it with a plastic or wood toothpick. If none of these steps resolve the problem take the phone, cable and adapter to an Apple store for diagnosis. Make an appointment first: http://concierge.apple.com/reservation/us/en/techsupport/
Note: You should register the iPhone on Apple's website first, if it isn't already registered: https://supportprofile.apple.com/. This will speed up the appointment process.

  • My info for battery charging says "Not Charging" when it is charging as per dashboard widget.

My info for battery charging says "Not Charging" when it is charging as per dashboard widget. Since change to lion all slowed down do I need more ram ( have 2 gig). Lost  some icons in web site icons and other random icons. So far SL better.

Yeah, it was purchased in August 2008. I'm not really sure what a charge cycle is, but I do plug it in and unplug it a lot to a power source. Mainly because I keep my computer on most of the time (either on or on sleep). So between taking it to classes and stuff, I'll recharge in between and when it's really low, otherwise I run it off the battery most of the time.

Oh, forgot to note. Now the time remaining is 10 hours, which is DEFINITELY wrong.

  • My IPad 2 won't stop saying not charging when plugged in any outlet

My IPad 2 keeps saying not charging when plugged in any outlet

On the off chance try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is app and data safe!

Have you recharge your iPod for at least 2 hours, preferably till the Full charge Battery symbol comes ON.?

Are you connecting your iPhone directly to your PC or to a USB hub?

  • Why when i plug my ipad in to chargr it says not charging

when i plug my ipad in to charge it says not charging how do i charge it

About the iPad Battery - http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html.
Charging the iPad battery - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4060.
They recommend you use the wall charger, not the computer and the cable, as many computer USB ports, are not 2.0 USB ports, and therefore are not powerful enough to charge the iPad.  See the article entitled "Charging the iPad Battery"

  • I just put a new battery into my MacBook and it sometimes says Not Charging when it is connected to a power adapter.

Does anyone know what this might mean?  My battery just went down to 7 percent charge even though it had been connected to the power adapter for quite some time.  At least a few days.  I didn't notice that the battery wasn't charging.  Now it says it is charging again, but every once in a while I notice it has gone to not charging.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

Oftentimes the travel chargers connectors and pins just build up dirt and grime. When it says not charging it's able to give enough power to function but not charge. Try wiping it down with a cloth!

  • TS3274 When I plug in it says not charging.  I have tried 3 different ways. Two computers and direct to power

anyone know why my iPad says not charging?

Your computer's USB port would not be providing enough power. It gives that messege but is in fact charging quite slowly. This method is not recommended.
If you are also getting the message when using the supplied 10W charger then I also suggest trying another cable.

  • Charging with iPod cord.  Seems to be charging even when it says not charging in the upper right corner.  Is this what happens when I don't use it's charger?  And is that ok?

Charging iPad 2 with IPod cord.  Seems to be charging even when it say not charging in the upper right corner.  Is it because I'm not using the cord it came with, and is it ok to use an iPod cord.

The dock connector to USB cables are interchangeable on the iPod and iPad. That's not a problem. You must be trying to charge using a USB port on your Computer. If the port supplies enough power, the iPd will charge albeit very very slowly  - as long as the Computer is turned on and it is awake.
You should really use the power adapter that comes with the iPad and it will charge much faster. Using the iPod cord is fine - switch to the supplied power adapter for the best results.

  • It says not charging when it is plugged into my mac desktop

My Ipad 2 says not charging when it is plugged into my computer and it does not show up on the side bar in the itunes app.

It is possible that the USB port is not working properly as well. This support article might be of help.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1591
Sometimes all it takes is a restart - quit iTunes, restart your Mac and restart your iPad and see if that helps at all.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Macbook Air (2012) says "Not Charging" when magsafe2 first plugged in but then starts charging after a few seconds. Is that normal?

    Hi guys,
I just purchased my first Apple notebook, the Macbook Air 13", last week and needless to say its a wonderful machine. However I've noticed that when I plug in the magsafe2 plug to charge the Air, the text next to battery icon says "Not Charging" for a few seconds (ranges from 1 to 3 seconds) before it disappears and the battery starts charging (the thunderbolt sign comes on). Seeing as this is my first Apple notebook I am unsure as to whether or not this behaviour is normal. I've searched the forums but have only been able to find one other case (w/o a solution).
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hey Guys,
Thanks for the info so far but now the time until it starts charging has increased to around 9 - 11 seconds, is this still normal?
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • HT1766 When I connect my ipad to the charger and then plug in the charger to the wall or a computer, it says "not charging"

When I plug in my charger either to a computer or to an electrical outlet, my mini ipad says, "not charging".  Why isn't it charging?

USB ports on computers do not normally provide enough power to charge the iPad so its normal to get the Not charging legend.
When plugged to the wall using the provided Adapter it should charge normally.

  • My charger doesnt light up and when plugged in it says not charging

Yesterday my daughter got a hold of my charger and now it doesn't work.  When plugged in it says "not charging".  Also the light on the charger does not come on.  Do I need a new battery or a new charger?

Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info, then select Power from the left hand column of the System Profiler. Copy and paste the Battery Information from the top of the page back here.
You can get a new third party 60W power adapter on eBay for under $20.

  • When connected to my Mac my iPad says "not charging", but it does seem to sync.  What am I doing wrong?

My iPad says "not charging" when connected to my Mac, but it does seemo sync.  What am I missing?

A lot of computers (especially older ones) generally do not provide enough power to their USB ports to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off (if you leave it for a while and then disconnect it from your computer you may find that it's battery percentage has gone up). The wall charger is usually the most efficient way to charge the iPad.
