My 13.3" macbook pro will not power up.The battery indicator light does not come on.The Mag safe charging light flickers green and red dimly.I had a cell phone connected to the USB port.

This didn't work for me, so I did a bit of searching and TONS of pages later in google, I found an answer. Here are the steps for people who also were in my situation:
    1. Take off bottom case
    2. Unplug battery - blurry image here: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/03cC79r5Dx4/0.jpg
    3. Press and hold power button for 5 seconds
    4. Plug a charger in, and it should start booting up
    5. After shutting down again, reconnect the battery and close the case up
    6. It works! (hopefully, if you guys had the same situation I did)

If you do not live near an apple retail store, you should call applecare as soon as possible.  They may request photos of the area after the incident.

  • Mag Safe charger says "Not Charging" when i plug it in

this just started today. Sometimes the light on the charger blinks orange. But when i plug it in it says "not charging". And the battery isnt fully charged because it says (0:55) when I unplug the charger. Whats going on?

What you're describing is mostly normal.
The power management software will not charge your battery until it dips below 95% charge. This saves you battery cycles and ultimately helps the battery to last longer before needing to be replaced. When the battery is less than 100% but more than 94% charged, the menubar display will read "Not Charging." Nothing to worry about there.
However, if you're seeing "Not Charging" and the battery is at 94% or less, then there's a problem. When you see "Not Charging" again, change the display to show percentage, and verify that it is 95% or more.
What is definitely not normal is the blinking; start by resetting the SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
If the blinking persists, there may be a hardware issue which Apple should repair as you're still under warranty.
It might also be helpful to check the health of your battery. Go to the Apple Menu -> About This Mac -> More Info, and click on Power from the left side of the System Profiler window that appears. Copy and paste into this thread the "Charge Information" and "Health Information" about your battery. That can give us a sense of whether there really is a problem with the battery.

  • Mag safe power cord Mac air 11"

This is really frustading - I bought a MacBook air just less then year ago and I can even charge it anymore. The mag safe charger starter to work intermittently and wanted to find out what it was causing this so I started to scout the Apple support. One of official solution apple provides deals with line noise. So I did what they suggest, which is to remove charger from wall and wait 30 seconds or so and plug it back in. This was working for a time but now stoped working altogether. Do you think I need a new cord?  I mean it's practically still brand new. Can a charger fry so soon? And should apple replace? I was in an apple store recently ( in Naperville Illinois) and the genius told me they didn't even look at power cords. Please can someone help me guide to what is the best approach to this issue ?

All we can do is suggest you take it to an Apple retailer. If the computer is in warranty and should the charger need replacing, then it should be covered under the warranty.

  • Does the world traveler kit work on the 60 watt mag safe power adapter

does the world traveler power adapter kit work with the 60 watt mag safe power adapter.

    Hi Aiian,
The kit contains all the plug ends needed to travel around the world. the small flat bladed square piece that slides on the 60 watt mag safe charger for use in north america was lost on vacation. I purchased this kit because it appeared to contain two plug adapters that looked exactly the same, one flat blade and one flat blade with holes at the end. when i tried one of the ends nothing happened (no charge).Wondering if it contaians a resistor inside? Mac offered only to replace it if it was faulty, but
    I lost mine.

  • Mag Safe LED Blinks From Green to Amber

I have a MBP bought in March 2007. I recently have been having a problem with the Mag Safe adapter. When the battery is about fully charged the LED on the Mag Safe connector starts to blink from green to amber. The blinking is rather constant, about 2 seconds a part. When I have the battery icon from the menu bar highlighted it shows "Calculating time..." and the LED is amber, and then quickly changes to "Battery is charged" and the LED turns green.
It seems that the computer doesn't know when to switch from battery to AC power when the battery is fully charged and connected to a power adapter.
I don't have an extra power adapter to try this on, as well as I don't have an extra battery. The Mag Safe connector at the MBP is perfectly fine, there is no fraying or anything like that. The wire does mostly stay wrapped around the power adapter hooks, so I am also thinking that it might be something wrong with the adapter itself, that the wires might be worn.
Thanks for any help that you can give me.

I have an issue somewhat similar to this - the battery indicator switches between claiming that it's charging and full, with the Magsafe adapter's light changing along with it. In my case it wasn't as regular as yours, but occurred while charging.
I tried calibrating the battery (instructions are here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2339.html ) but it doesn't seem to have had an affect. Worse, the system had shut off when the battery got low (~12% power remaining) twice now, although there was one time between those two when it went down to 5% and I shut it down myself. I have 89 cycles on the year-old battery and iStat pro claims that its health is at 39%. To add to the mix, last night I watched a 26-minute movie which ate up 20% of the battery (this is about normal), and then I watched a second one that dropped the battery by a bit under 60%. I'm guessing that the battery has some dead cells. I have extended Applecare coverage, but have heard that it doesn't apply to batteries. Regardless, people have linked to pages showing that Apple will replace batteries if they're in a poor state and under 300 cycles. I'll head to an Apple store some time in the near future and see what the consensus is.
Long story short, my battery is probably failing, and the light changing behavior started around the time that I began to suspect that. It may be indicative of a dying battery on your end, as well.

  • Mag Safe Not Charging Macbook

    Hi there,
My mum has a white macbook, and within the last 2 hours the magsafe hasnt been charging the comp.
No lights show on the mag safe when plugged in (we have changed the fuse in the plug).
Acording to my mum, there was a 'humming' sound from the macbook before the light went out on the mag safe and stopped charging.
Has anyone come across this before?
    Any solutions?
    Thanks!
    R

These cords do fail. Take it and the computer in so they can ensure it's the cord and not the mac. If under applecare, the cord should be free replacement. I've gone through several magsafe cords, all replaced under Applecare.

  • Mag Safe power cord sparks when connected or disconnected--whereupon the MacBook Pro 13'' dumps date and time, and all passwords, plus any/all unsaved information.

I purchased my MacBook Pro 13" from the Apple Store in Tucson, AZ, in mid-January. Since then, every time the Mag-Safe cord is jostled, not even disconnected, sparks fly from the power terminal on the computer, the computer shuts down, and dumps its passwords, as well as the date and time.
Any work in progress is also lost.
I work overseas, and Apple's advice was to give them my credit card number, await shipment of a new power supply and cord, and then, when I return the old power supply and cord, i'd receive a credit. That won't work, as packages from the US to my location take weeks if they arrive at all. There is no Apple Store within a reasonable distance. Or, Apple suggests, when I'm home on leave in mid-June, I should bring the computer to the Apple Store for repair--I have only days in which to do that, but I suppose I'll need to try. My concern is that I'll need to return overseas without my computer and won't be able to retrieve it for months, until my next leave.
This issue shows up elsewhere online. Is there a short in the power terminal in the computer, or on the Mag-Safe power cord, or within the computer itself? It's a known issue, thus I wonder why it hasn't been fixed.

  • Macbook pro retina 13 mag safe

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro retina 13 (early 2013). I accidentally broke my Mag Safe 2 (60W) adapter. So went out and bought a new one but unfortunately the 60W was sold out everywhere, so went online to see if I could use a Mag Safe 2 (85W) and every single forum said it was OK to use that one, since the computer knows how much juice to pull. Well, I don't think that's correct. My battery was working just fine, and ever since I started charging it with my new 85W charger, the battery lasts less than half the time. Is anybody else having the same problem? If so, do you think I need to replace my battery and charger?

    Power Adapter/ cord wattage
“Power adapters for Intel-based Apple notebooks are available in 45W, 60W, and 85W varieties. Although you should always use the proper wattage adapter for your Apple notebook, you can use an adapter of a higher wattage without issue.”
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2346
Did you buy a non-Apple brand MagSafe power adapter? Return it if you can.
    Order one from Apple store.
    Best.
