Mag Safe power adapter light not working?

HI,
I"ve had my MBP laptop and accessories since October of last year. Haven't had much of a problem besides battery fluctuation. Anyways as of late, the last week or so, whenever I plug in the magsafe adapter the light will turn on (green) then orange to charge then sputter off as if it's not on, even though my laptop say's its charging. Do I have a short? Or whats wrong with my adapter? If something's wrong where do I go to get it replaced because I can't afford to buy a new one. Please help!

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I have also heard of the green/orange fluctuation being related to a defective battery. If you are also experiencing battery fluctuation, you may have a defective battery which is the real culprit. See if the battery fits any of the situations in this article:
http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/
Your best bet would be to make an appointment at the genius bar if you have access to an Apple Store. There you could try a known good power adaptor and see if the problem persists. They should be able to determine if the problem is with the adaptor or the battery or possibly both.
Good luck!

  • Power adapter light not working

The other day the LED light was stuck on green, even when laptop was not fully charged and even when I pulled it out of the computer!
Now, the light doesn't come on at all and it doesn't seem to be charging the computer. The battery indicator on the screen is showing that it is connected, but when I unplug the power adapter, the battery is not charged.
I've tried blowing out any dust/debris, and making sure all of the prongs are properly functioning. Any other advice?

Stop by an Apple Store, if you can, and test using a different AC adapter. If that works, your adapter is faulty. If it doesn't, your computer probably is.

  • DOES MAG SAFE POWER ADAPTER WORK THE SAME AS A PORTABLE POWER ADAPTER??

My power adapter broke, so I just purchased a Mag Safe power adapter. My computer works when it is plugged in, but it says that there are no batteries available, and it is not charging.
Is there a difference between the two, and what could be the problem?

What exactly do you mean? There is only one AC adapter for the MacBook and it is a Mag Safe adapter, what are you refering to when you say portable adapter?

  • Does the world traveler kit work on the 60 watt mag safe power adapter

does the world traveler power adapter kit work with the 60 watt mag safe power adapter.

    Hi Aiian,
The kit contains all the plug ends needed to travel around the world. the small flat bladed square piece that slides on the 60 watt mag safe charger for use in north america was lost on vacation. I purchased this kit because it appeared to contain two plug adapters that looked exactly the same, one flat blade and one flat blade with holes at the end. when i tried one of the ends nothing happened (no charge).Wondering if it contaians a resistor inside? Mac offered only to replace it if it was faulty, but
    I lost mine.

  • Is there lead in the Mag Safe power adapter's cord/cable?

I was just wondering if there is lead in the Mag Safe power adapter's cord/cable specifically, and if there is any in apple's cords/cables in general. I couldn't find anywhere to email apple about it.

I don't have specific information, but the power adapter is certified for use in the EU, and the EU has very strict lead-free requirements. Chances are the printed circuit board inside the power adapter also is manufactured with lead-free solder. Bismuth can be substituted for lead, though the resulting amalgam will have a higher melting point, so is harder to work with and increases assembly costs a little bit. Despite economic incentive to use lead, responsible manufacturing can avoid it.
There are probably much more significant exposure risks in your environment than the cord on your MacBook charger. If your home is over 20 years old and has copper pipes, chances are they were sweated together with lead bearing solder. Also, old faucets often contain lead in their parts.
Even if the cord did contain lead, it isn't likely to ablate into your environment; avoid chewing on the cord, and don't allow children or pets to chew the cord either.

  • My power adapter is not working at all

    Hello
Recently, my power adapter has stopped working. I'm down to 33% battery power and no way to recharge! If I unplug the adapter and plug it directly into a wall outlet (grounded), it still does not work. No light on the adapter plug at all.
What's up here? How do I fix this? Please help!

If it won't switch on, and assuming that the battery isn't empty (and it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond), then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • AC adapter light not working

When charging my Macbook Pro sometimes the indicator LED light doesn't come on at all.  Everytime I checked when the LED isn't working the computer still charges, but I am not sure if when I leave it sometimes if it is charging correctly since the LED doesn't work periodically.  I am also wondering if this is an issue with the adapter, rather then the actual computer port.  If it is the computer port I don't feel comfortable with sending it out for repairs if its just a small issue.  I guess what I am trying to see is if anyone else has experienced this issue.  I would much rather go to the apple store and recieve a new adapter, and if the issue persists I can send it in for repairs.  Please if anyone has experience with the same trouble I have had let me know.  Thank you in advance.
    -Andrew

May be the adapter is not working properly.
Take the MBP and MagSafe/Power Adapter to the Apple store  for evaluation.
    For:
The MagSafe power adaptor LED doesn't appear to indicate the correct activity.
    Reset SMC.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the appropriate method.
    Best.

  • My Macbook Pro power adapter is not working

I have had my MacBook Pro for less than 1 year and I only use it to get to Uni and back. I leave the adapter at home and unplug it when I'm not using it, but lately it has decided that it doesn't want to work and hence I cannot charge my laptop. Is there anything I can do other than spen $90 on a new charger?

If your computer is still under warranty, so is the power adapter. Make an appointment at an Apple store or call AppleCare.

  • HP Pavilion Power Adapter Beeping/Not Working

I just made a post earlier tonight about how my HP Pavilion dv7-1014ca Entertainment Notebook was running too hot. Well now I've got bigger problems.
The battery on my laptop has been shot for a while now. My notebook isn't even 2 years old yet and I've gone through3 batteries. For whatever reason, they just aren't lasting. Last year I also had issues with my power jack not working properly. I got it repaired last summer, but in the past two months, it seems as if the issue has returned. Sometimes when I move the chord, the power supply cuts out. Also in the past month or so, my power adapter has been making this annoying beeping noise whenever I plugged it in. It would usually go away if I fiddled with it, but as of right now, I can't get it to stop, short of unplugging the thing. As it stands, the power adapter no longer seems to work, and since my battery is shot, my notebook has turned off. With no battery and no external power source, my laptop is unusable.
So... is the adapter fried? Is my power jack toast again? Seeing as my PC is no longer under warranty, what are my best options for replacement parts/fixes?

    Hello @pxj,
I understand that your notebook's keyboard is not working, and that your alternative keyboard does not function as well. I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
Since your system's available drivers do not contain any keyboard drivers for Windows 7, I recommend obtaining a recovery disc to re-install Windows Vista on your system. This can be done by following this document on Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Mag Safe power adapter

I have no idea about technical matters!!!!! This is my first Mac!!!! Please explain (dumb down) technical jargon the best you can.
When I plug my macbook up to charge, the green light on the charger keeps flashing (not in any sort of sequence just dimming). Only got the macbook and charger 2 weeks ago. What does it mean? My macbook says its fully charger on the screen but the battery indicator says otherwise and so does the percentage next to the battery life. Occasionally the light doesn't come on all for a while. What can I do to fix this? Don't want to plug my laptop in to charge at the moment until this problem is resolved.

    calebredpath wrote:
Actually, I think the problem is with the power adapter itself. I just turned it on without being plugged into the laptop and it still flashes. When I plugged it in it was powering the laptop but not charging it, had no light green or amber on and my macbook still said it was fully charged although the percentage only says 33. If I take it back to PC World will they have another charger that I can try? If they have to replace it will they have to replace the whole laptop or give me a new charger? I really need help here because I can't really loose my laptop at the moment.
OK. That sounds unusual. Usually when it isn't connected to a computer, the light is off. I know I said that the computer controls the signal, but if the mechanism controlling the light is broken, then that might be it.
If they're an authorised (my spelling is in deference to your location) reseller and service center, then they might do just that.

  • HT3964 My power adapter is not working, for my MacBook Pro, souloution?

I am currently living on an island in Greece, but my computer is registered in Australia.
My power adapter for my Mac book pro has stopped working, it is only 13 months old.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Try it on another MBP or try another one on your MBP (assuming you have such options available).

You may very well have to purchase a new one.

  • Mag safe Power adapter on the 11inch and 13inch MBA

Are they the same? Apple.com says they are both 45watt chargers, But on the 11inch it says 35-watt an hour v.s. the 13 inch saying 55-watt an hour. I would assume this is how many watts the computer actually draws? If someone could clear this up for me that would be great! =)

    Hi Josh,
Both machines use the smaller form factor power adapter (45W). What they're referring to with the 35-watt-hour (11") and 50-watt-hour (13") is the battery.
A watt-hour (Wh) is what many electronics manufacturers use as their system of measurement for battery and power consumption. Whereas one watt of power expended for one hour of time.
The higher the number, the longer the run time. It also usually means the larger the battery would need to be.
    13" MBP - 63.5 Wh
    15" MBP - 77.5 Wh
    17" MBP - 95 Wh
Above are the values for the MacBook Pro and you can see the battery in the 17" is a beast. It's also got a lot of power under the hood that it's need to run. So the numbers have a direct relation with the requirements of the machine.

  • Mag Safe Power Adapter - Red light on charger

    Hello,
I have had my MacBook for about a week now. I love it! However, when I plug the charger into the wall, and the other end into my computer, the end where I plug it into my computer (with the little LED light on it), is showing orange/red on the LED light. It is green for a few seconds when I plug it in, and it was green since I've used the MacBook, but now it is red/orange. I am just wondering if this is a big problem I should be worrying about, or if everything is okay. The charging status on toolbar shows the lightning (charging) symbol, and I am watching my battery percentage go up, I am just concerned obviously. I love my MacBook, and want to make sure there is nothing wrong with it. Please get back to me with any info ASAP. Thanks.
    John Kasprzak

    That is perfectly normal.
The green light indicator on the magsafe adaptor indicates that the power is going to the computer, and not the battery (i.e: when no battery is installed, or when the battery is fully charged).
The amber light indicates that the power is going to the battery as well, meaning that the computer is being powered by the adaptor while the battery charges at the same time. The amber light also shows when the Macbook is off and the battery is charging.
    So, in summary:
    Amber=battery charging.
    Green=battery not charging.
